Bernie Endorses Hillary ~ Bernie Fans Flip Out

At a joint appearance in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Bernie finally bowed to the winner and gave Hillary Clinton his endorsement. His followers, however, were not so graceful and pretty much had a giant hissy fit. Trump had a few things to say as well, which shouldn't be a surprise.

"I have come here to make it as clear as possible why I am endorsing Hillary Clinton and why she must become our next president," Sanders said at a joint rally here. "Secretary Clinton has won the Democratic nomination and I congratulate her for that."
The 74-year-old self-described democratic socialist, who has been a thorn in Clinton's side over the last year, pledged to support his former rival through Election Day: "I intend to do everything I can to make certain she will be the next president of the United States."

Bernie's Endgame Failure

As the 2016 Democratic Primary season winds down, it's obvious that Bernie Sanders has lost his once rather noble narrative.

His surrogates have been a hot mess - Obama critics such as Cornel West and Cenk Uygur - Naderites such as Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon and Michael Moore - and befuddled pundits who have garbled the message such as Nina Turner and Shaun King. There have been several disastrous demonstrations of Bernie-Bro chaos, such as the protest at a Clinton rally in California during which children were screamed and cursed at and signs were destroyed, along with the latest debacle at the Nevada State Democratic Convention which ended in police action.

Bernie doesn't seem concerned with uniting the Democratic Party. Instead he is vowing to plow ahead to California, win by miracle or (more likely) lose to Hillary, then somehow persuade the super delegates to flip to him at the Philadelphia convention this summer (and please send money!). He's just doubling down on his campaign spin, and seems to believe every pipe-dream his followers espouse:

Jake Tapper: Now you were making a point about the superdelegates, but what you left out of that data is that while it’s true – you have roughly 46 percent of the pledged delegates, Secretary Clinton has roughly 54 percent of them. It seems unlikely that you’ll actually achieve the majority of the pledged delegates.

Sanders: I assume that most of the people who come to my rallies can do arithmetic!
The point that I was making is there’s something absurd when I get 46 percent of the delegates that come from real contests — real elections, and 7 percent of the superdelegates. I am the stronger candidate because we appeal to independents, people who are not in love with either the Democratic or the Republican Party,”


From This Week with George Stephanopoulos: Will he be Hillary's running mate? Um...

STEPHANOPOULOS: If you don't, sir, and this is my final question.
Are you hoping to be considered if Secretary Clinton's running mate?

SANDERS: It's a little bit early to talk about that. Right now, our function is to do everything I can, George. And you're going to see me running all over California; we're in New Mexico now. We're going to do everything that we can to get every vote and every delegate that we can and go into that convention with as much momentum as is possible.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Didn't hear a no. Senator, we'll be talking to you soon. Take care.

On Hillary as the "lesser of two evils" compared with Trump:

We need a campaign, an election, coming up which does not have two candidates who are really very, very strongly disliked. I don’t want to see the American people voting for the lesser of two evils. I want the American people to be voting for a vision of economic justice, of social justice, of environmental justice, of racial justice. That is the campaign we are running, and that’s why we are getting the support we are.

Sanders insisted there is a “possibility” he could pull ahead of Clinton. He acknowledged this would be improbable and would take multiple major victories among the six states that will vote on June 7. Nevertheless, Sanders vowed to take his “fight” to the party’s nominating convention, which will take place in Philadelphia in late July.
“We have the possibility. It will be a steep climb, I recognize that, but we have the possibility of going to Philadelphia with a majority of the pledged delegates,” Sanders said. “Some people say that we’ve got a steep hill to climb to do that. And you know what? That is absolutely true. But you know what? Together we have been climbing that steep hill from day one in this campaign.”

Yeah, okay - a steep hill to nowhere because Hillary Clinton will win California, and also New Jersey and Washington D.C.

And along comes Campaign Manager Jeff Weaver to refute the Math, which "media narrative" instead of reality:

AUDIE CORNISH: But if he has to win 68 percent of all the delegates going forward, in all the races, and he falls short of that — you know, do you have an obligation to be honest about what his path is?
JEFF WEAVER: Well, no, but see, but that’s a media narrative from people who think that politics is just standing at a board, doing mathematics. But it’s much more than that.

And about that Convention:

CORNISH: So for the record, you are planning to contest the convention?

WEAVER: Well, I think what is going to happen is at the end of the District of Columbia, which is the last jurisdiction to vote in this process - and once that happens, if the senator has substantial momentum, if he has substantially closed the gap in terms of pledged delegates, if the public polling continues to show that he's a much stronger candidate, I think there's a strong argument to be made to superdelegates that they should take another look.
I mean, there are hundreds of superdelegates who support Hillary Clinton who announced their endorsement for her before the race even started, before they even knew Bernie Sanders was in the race. So...

CORNISH: Right, that's why I'm asking. So essentially, you're saying, yeah, if all of these things line up the way you're describing, you want - you're saying that your campaign will - you guys will raise your hand and say, yes, we want to contest this. This is not over.

WEAVER: Right, we'll go there. And, you know, superdelegates don't vote until they actually go to the convention. So let's see where the race stands at the end of the voting process. And then let's see what happens when the superdelegates actually vote in Philadelphia.

But slowly some past Bernie supporters are coming to their senses and realizing Bernie's day is done and we should be focused on Trump.

This week the Twitter hashtag #BernieLostMe trended for several days. And while the faithful keep their spirits up by vowing #BernieOrBust, signs are that the "revolution" may be coming apart at the seams.

The night of the New York Primary, Bernie Sanders was at Penn State giving a speech. When the event ended and he found out he had been trounced by Hillary Clinton, his reaction spoke volumes. He didn't go back to a microphone and give a concession speech. He didn't ask his entourage of reporters to send out a message of good will to other Democrats. Instead, he left his press corps stranded in a Pennsylvania airport at 10 pm at night and flew back home to Vermont where he only spoke to local reporters, still not giving a message of any sort that would prove him to be a gracious loser.

Nope. He's just a loser. A sore loser.





And then the conspiracy theories began, but they've been there all along. The election was "rigged" by Hillary and the "establishment." The election was stolen. Something was wrong. How could Bernie have huge crowds at his speeches, but so few votes? Don't crowds of unregistered voters always equal votes? And isn't it unfair that Independents needed to register, like, last October or something? Rigged! Disenfranchised! Voter Suppression!!!

As if that wasn't bad enough, Bernie's manager, Jeff Weaver, immediately went on MSNBC and made an arse of himself trying to explain some vague way for Bernie to win in spite of logic and math. It was quite a spectacle.

Bernie Camp Blames Hillary for AZ Voting Problems

Voters for Bernie Sanders can't believe that their candidate doesn't win every state, so they rationalize. They say Bernie gets the "real" states, while Hillary only wins "Southern" or "Confederate" states in the south, totally dismissing her wins in Massachusetts, Iowa (which they still consider a tie), and Illinois.

There seems to be a basic lack of civics knowledge, as well as a sense of what the Primary is supposed to achieve, which is a chance for Democrats in blue, red, or purple states to pick a general election candidate. Bernie simply does better in party-run caucuses in smaller states, while Hillary is picking up loads of delegates in straightforward primaries run by state and local governments. In fact, her lead in both popular votes and delegates is getting to the point that some Democrats are suggesting that Bernie should drop out of the race for the good of the party.





But Bernie and his gang are not going to go quietly into that good night, and the first stage of campaign loss is denial.

Last night during the Western Tuesday primary, Bernie handily won the Idaho and Utah caucuses, but Hillary got basically a landslide in Arizona so the denial reached new heights, with the Bernies blaming Hillary and the Democrats for somehow "making sure" there were going to be long lines in Maricopa County, and even blaming them for paperwork problems involving Independents trying to vote in a closed Primary open only to Dems. Trolls jumped onto Twitter last night to insist that the Democrats were running the AZ primary (see below) and would not listen to reason.






First of all, Arizona is a red state with a state-run primary for both parties. Number two, voters for every candidate, including GOP and Hillary voters, were standing in the same long lines. And thirdly, the County Vote Recorder admitted to a reporter on video that local election officials decided to have half the number of usual voting places and count on early voting by mail to pick up the slack - big mistake during such a major election year with so many candidates. So none of it has anything to do with Hillary, but the Republican bureaucracy and penny-pinching of the state of Arizona and Maricopa County in particular. Most other counties did not have the same problems.



But don't let the facts bother you, Bernie bros!

Bernie's long-time Campaign Manager Jeff Weaver (cousin of Karl Rove of "skewed polls" fame on Fox News), said he was concerned that "something happened" in Arizona to help Hillary get more votes. He was also asked about why Bernie voters nearly always "boo" for Hillary when Bernie mentions her name.

Many pundits predicted a better showing for Bernie Sanders as his campaign moved into South Carolina, and instead Hillary Clinton swept the state in a historic landslide.

I thought it would be fun to compile a list of predictions from the so-called pundits plus Bernie himself on the eve of Super Tuesday. Oh, and Happy Monday Leap Day, too!

With #CoinTossGate Berniebros Call Hillary Fraud

Bernie Sanders has a legion of followers who are sometimes stereotyped as young white males with a certain know-it-all attitude. They are known as the "Berniebots" or more commonly the "Berniebros."

The archetype is simple: a young, male supporter of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders who questions Clinton supporters on a spectrum that ranges from simply tone-deaf to outright misogynistic.
He’s the smug-seeming young Sanders supporter who asked Clinton at a CNN town hall why young voters aren’t enthusiastic about her candidacy, then suggested it was because she’s dishonest. He’s the guy who floods Internet comment boards accusing Clinton supporters of voting with their “vaginas.” He’s the idealistic young liberal who replies to any critique of Sanders on social media with a flood of crass terms and vitriol.


The Iowa Caucus was a close race for the Democrats. Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton split the vote right down the middle with Hillary winning by just a few points. Democrats should have been thrilled to have two strong candidates who excited voters - we are all on the same side, after all. But some of Bernie's supporters - male and female - chose to go negative about Hillary's victory, taking it out on other Dems, trolling their Twitter and Facebook accounts, while insinuating that Hillary had somehow cheated them out of an "easy" win.

The Bernie-Bros-and-Gals were helped along by the media, namely MSNBC who had a hyper Steve Kornackie's talking about how crazy the Iowa Caucus process is without fully understanding it. Kornacki made it sound as if the election was being decided by "coin tosses" because that is the way ties were broken in some precincts, and that has probably been done for 100 years in Iowa. But the Bernie-bro meme quickly became that "Hillary stole the election with lucky coin tosses," diminishing the achievement of being the first woman to ever win the Iowa Caucus, and setting off purity troll-mania among the Bernie supporters.

Accusing Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party of election fraud is a mistake.
My Facebook feed is rapidly filling up with Sanders supporters who are accusing various precinct officials as well as both the Clinton campaign and the Iowa Democratic Party of rigging the vote against Bernie. With the 30-to-21 delegate split clearly showing a Clinton victory, it was pretty damn close to a tie, and Sanders supporters should be proud of achieving second place with a wafer-thin margin. Scouring Iowa precincts for fraud just looks like sour grapes. Plus, attacking the Democratic Party itself won’t help Sanders with acquiring the necessary party endorsements to win the nomination — superdelegates matter, and Sanders lags far behind on this front with a margin of 465 party endorsements for Clinton and just two for Bernie. By the way, the C-SPAN video being circulated with the headline “Clinton Voter Fraud in Polk County, Iowa Caucus” was user-generated, and likely comes from a Sanders supporter — not C-SPAN itself.

You know nothing about how a caucus works because you didn’t take the time to educate yourselves and you treat our good Democratic Party caucus chairs who have been working elections honorably since before you were born with disrespect and suspicion as if they are there to “rig” the caucus.
Then when it’s all over, you take to the web and start making accusations of voter fraud and demanding recounts. You pretend that flipping a coin to decide something at the caucus is some nefarious Clinton scheme to rob Bernie Sanders because again you never took the time to educate yourselves so you would know that the coin toss is nothing new or nefarious. Then you are silent when it turns out that the real beneficiary of the evil coin toss was Bernie Sanders.

The coin flip rule has been part of the Democratic Iowa caucus process for years. The only thing about it that’s changed is our ability to document it.
As we’ve reported before, the last Democratic caucus that was actually contested was back in 2008, when smartphone use was much less widespread and Twitter had barely hit the mainstream. Before this year’s caucus, we predicted that the existence of this technology would give Americans a window into the process they’ve rarely seen before. If the coin flip mini-drama is any indication, we were right.
. . . each delegate awarded last night, while still important, still represents a fraction of one state delegate—the people who actually choose the nominee at the Democratic Convention. County delegates, in other words, don’t carry as much weight. That’s why when the results come in, they’re reported not as county delegates, but as state delegate equivalents. Last night, Clinton beat Sanders by nearly four state delegate equivalents. And what that means is the outcome of the race wouldn’t have changed if the coins flips had flopped in Sanders’ favor.
