LaPierre's NRA Scary Tales, the Connecticut Effect & Nugent at SOTU

Photobucket

Wayne LaPierre on Daily Caller
Before I tell you how the NRA and our members are going to Stand And Fight politically and in the courts, let’s acknowledge that all over this country, tens of millions of Americans are already preparing to Stand And Fight to protect their families and homes.
These good Americans are prudently getting ready to protect themselves.
. . . A heinous act of mass murder—either by terrorists or by some psychotic who should have been locked up long ago—will be the pretext to unleash a tsunami of Gun Control.

No wonder Americans are buying guns in record numbers right now, while they still can and before their choice about which firearm is right for their family is taken away forever.

After Hurricane Sandy, we saw the hellish world that the gun prohibitionists see as their utopia. Looters ran wild in south Brooklyn. There was no food, water or electricity. And if you wanted to walk several miles to get supplies, you better get back before dark, or you might not get home at all.

. . . President Obama is leading this country to financial ruin, borrowing over a trillion dollars a year for phony “stimulus” spending and other payoffs for his political cronies. Nobody knows if or when the fiscal collapse will come, but if the country is broke, there likely won’t be enough money to pay for police protection. And the American people know it.

Hurricanes. Tornadoes. Riots. Terrorists. Gangs. Lone criminals. These are perils we are sure to face—not just maybe. It’s not paranoia to buy a gun. It’s survival. It’s responsible behavior, and it’s time we encourage law-abiding Americans to do just that.

. . . To preserve the inalienable, individual human right to keep and bear arms—to withstand the siege that is coming—the NRA is building a four-year communications and resistance movement. The enemies of the Second Amendment will be met with unprecedented defiance, commitment and determination. We will Stand And Fight.

. . . Every gun owner should be an active member of the NRA. Every gun owner should be sure that every member of his or her family is an active member.

. . . We will not surrender. We will not appease. We will buy more guns than ever. We will use them for sport and lawful self-defense more than ever. We will grow the NRA more than ever. And we will be prouder than ever to be freedom-loving NRA patriots. And with your help, we will ensure that the Second Amendment remains America’s First Freedom.

We will Stand And Fight.

There is no way anyone can read three pages of this nonsense.
~ Robert D. on Daily Caller

"Hurricanes. Tornadoes. Riots. Terrorists. Gangs. Lone criminals."
Because you need a gun to fight those damned hurricanes and tornadoes.
~ Doug D. on Daily Caller

You're right, a gun won't protect you from a tornado or hurricane. Wayne is just saying that it'll allow you to rob someone of their food and water.
~ Thoth on Daily Caller

And let's not forget about the Martians...everyone knows the Obama administration is secretly working with the Martians through NASA to take over the world...but they have to get our guns first!
~ RenegadeFL on Daily Caller

Is the NRA more or less threatening they will shoot and kill Americans who try to enforce laws they disagree with? Hypothetical laws that haven't even been proposed except in their paranoid minds? Because if you are threatening to kill Americans for enforcing the law, you're not exactly helping your cause. In fact, I'd say you're doing a fine job of making the argument for the other side. It's clear your type is incapable of being trusted with firearms. You are a clear threat to our society and should be treated as such.
~ Confabulat on Daily Caller

The only thing that will stop a bad zombie with a gun is a good zombie with a gun.
~ RDK541 on Huff Post

Hurricanes, tornadoes, riots, people wearing crocs in public, reality television, sales on Black Friday, plagues of locusts, lizard people...yes, yes, these are just some of the perils we face.
~ Sabazinus on Huff Post

If you want a government made up of Doomsday Preppers, just vote GOP.

The Connecticut Effect

We have a strong agenda coming up for next year, but of course a lot of that’s going to be delayed as the “Connecticut Effect” has to go through the process. [...] What’s even more telling is the people who don’t like guns pretty much realize that they can’t do a thing unless they talk to us. After Connecticut I had one of the leading Democrats in the legislature—he was with us most of the time, not all the time—he came to me and said, “Bob, I got all these people in my caucus that really want to ban guns and do all this bad stuff, we gotta give them something. How about we close this gun show loophole? Wouldn’t that be good?” And I said, “no, we’re not going to do that.” And so far, nothing’s happened on that.
~ Bob Welch of the Wisconsin chapter of The National Rifle Association

~~~~~~~~~~~~
The remarks by a NRA lobbyist that the organization's efforts would intensify after the "Connecticut effect" subsides are callous and offensive and should be denounced by the NRA. If the NRA believes that Americans are going to forget what happened two months ago this week, it is sorely mistaken. What the NRA doesn't seem to understand is that the so-called "Connecticut effect" is actually 20 children with their whole lives ahead of them taken from us in a matter of seconds - and six courageous educators who simply came to school to help children and, instead, lost their lives trying to protect them. The unimaginable pain their families and the Newtown community and our nation feel will not wear off anytime soon.
~ Senator Richard Blumental D-Connecticut, in an editorial on Huffington Post
Bob Welch is neither a staff lobbyist nor a contract lobbyist for the National Rifle Association. He does not speak for the NRA.
~ Official NRA Email
While it’s not clear whether Welch, a former Wisconsin state legislator, has ever been paid by the NRA to lobby the state legislature in Wisconsin, it is clear that he and the group he represents has claimed to speak for the NRA in the past.
Welch is a registered lobbyist for Wi-FORCE (Wisconsin Firearm Owners, Ranges, Clubs & Educators, Inc.). The Wi-FORCE website is emblazoned with the words “An NRA Chartered State Association” as well as a newsfeed from the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, the group’s lobbying arm.
~ Talking Points Memo
The response that most of us had to Newtown wasn't the "Connecticut effect"...but humanity. And humanity should be able to outlast the NRA.
~ Will Bunch on Philly.com
The House Gallery in the U.S. Capitol had a distinctively Connecticut cast for President Obama's Tuesday night State of the Union speech.
At least half of the two dozen invited guests who were victims of gun violence are residents of this state. The guests, invited by the president and members of Congress, included the parents of a little girl killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14; a teacher wounded in the same incident; and the head of a liquor distributorship in Manchester where eight employees were shot and killed in 2010.
. . . We could proudly call Tuesday night's display of resolve "the Connecticut effect."
Ted Nugent at SOTU
State of the Union Seating Planners Troll Ted Nugent, Put Him Next to Gay Civil Rights Activist from Portland
. . . Lauderdale, best known for founding the "little orchestra" known as Pink Martini, is the anti-Ted Nugent: A liberal, Occupy-Movement-supporting, openly gay civil rights activist who favors gun control and loves classical music.
~ Gawker
From Raw Story
. . . there he was, sitting quietly in a corner of a visitor’s gallery on the upper level of the House chamber, a guest of conservative Republican congressman Steve Stockman (R-TX).
. . . Asked about Obama’s remarks, Nugent, best known for his 1970s hit “Cat Scratch Fever,” mimicked a slow yawn before offering his, well, critique.
“Does kiss my ass ring any bells?” drawled the Nuge, who sported a camouflage cowboy hat.
“I’m so excited that someone is going to bring about world peace and save the children,” he quipped.
“And thank God he’s gonna stop global warming, I was starting to get concerned.”
. . . “I’ve heard this predictable flowery feel-good speech of denial before,” Nugent said at one of his many stops in front of the TV cameras.
“It’s a scam, and I think it’s epitomized by his dishonesty in the overt attempt to infringe on our Second Amendment rights” to bear arms.
Nugent was eventually introduced to a reporter from the Voice of America.
The rocker grinned and interrupted: “I’m sorry, I’m the f—ing voice of America!” he boomed.
From Mediaite
...Politico reported that Nugent held court with reporters, telling them that Rep. Jim Langevin (D-RI), who was paralyzed in a shooting accident, had “Shit for brains” because he was critical of Nugent’s attendance at the address. He also denied threatening President Obama.
NBC News’ Luke Russert later asked Nugent if he thought that was “an appropriate thing to say about a sitting member of Congress who’s in a wheelchair?”
Nugent, no stranger to feces, responded that it would take “genuine fecal material instead of brain matter” to suggest that he doesn’t “feel sorry for the victims of violent crime.”
Wingnut Conspiracy Theory: Petraeus Can't Speak Truth on Benghazi Due to Blackmail Over Affair (or something)
Photobucket
Ace of Spades HQ
November 09, 2012
When Did Obama Know About Petraeus' Affair?
Did he know about it months ago, which seems likely?
Did he tell Petraeus to resign after the election?
If Petraeus had to resign because he was compromised, he was compromised months ago.
Did Obama leave a compromised head of the CIA in place to avoid some difficult politics?
Petraeus' testimony about this -- not the affair, but Obama's knowledge of it and offers to resign -- is now required.
Ben Shapiro on Breitbart
Now that the Obama administration has succeeded in winning a second term, they are cleaning house. The two figures most linked to the disaster in Benghazi, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Petraeus, are gone. The figure most linked with Fast and Furious, Eric Holder, will be gone. The figure most linked to the administration’s economic failures, Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner, will be gone.
Only Obama remains. He ran out the clock on his scandals, and now throws anyone associated with them overboard.
The Petraeus resignation is only the most recent evidence that the Obama administration will lie to the American people to achieve its ends. But with all of his experts gone, Obama’s cabinet will now be staffed by the political C team in a time of crisis, both domestically and internationally.
Le Pew ~ Dems Panic Over One Stinky Poll - Updated
Photobucket
Romney’s Strong Debate Performance Erases Obama’s Lead
GOP Challenger Viewed as Candidate with New Ideas
~ Headline on Pew Polling Research Center
Did Obama Just Throw The Entire Election Away?
The Pew poll is devastating, just devastating. Before the debate, Obama had a 51 - 43 lead; now, Romney has a 49 - 45 lead. That's a simply unprecedented reversal for a candidate in October. Before Obama had leads on every policy issue and personal characteristic; now Romney leads in almost all of them. Obama's performance gave Romney a 12 point swing! I repeat: a 12 point swing.
. . . A sitting president does not recover from being obliterated on substance, style and likability in the first debate and get much of a chance to come back. He has, at a critical moment, deeply depressed his base and his supporters and independents are flocking to Romney in droves.
. . . I'm trying to see a silver lining. But when a president self-immolates on live TV, and his opponent shines with lies and smiles, and a record number of people watch, it's hard to see how a president and his party recover.
~ Nearly Hysterical Democrat Andrew Sullivan, columnist on The Daily Beast
Should Obama Supporters Start Freaking Out?
. . . The undisputed captain of Team Freakout is Newsweek’s Andrew Sullivan, the longtime Obama supporter who has written a number of cover stories advocating for his campaign. His post-debate analysis of how Obama “plummeted into near-oblivion” is so spectacularly glum that it spawned its own parody account on Twitter, @SullyPanic (sample tweet: “After Wednesday’s debate I’m leaving the Catholic church. God is dead.”)
~ Talking Points Memo
From the Fake Andrew Sullivan on Twitter:
Calm down, Democrats. This is about winning the electoral college, not national polls.
. . . National tracking polls are overrated. They were overrated when they had President Obama leading the race and they are overrated now that some polls are showing Mitt Romney ahead.
There is no polling conspiracy. It’s all about perspective: The race for the White House is going to be very close and the tracking polls are going to swing back and forth for the next three weeks until election day.
Obama is tanking in the Polls
. . . We needed Obama win that debate. Medicare, the Supreme Court, gay rights, tax fairness, the social safety net, all of it was on the line during the debate and Obama was either too lazy or too busy or just too arrogant to engage. He is still asking me for money. I guess I am expected to give another $10 to his wayward campaign. I don't know why I would do that. Why?
Why would I give money to a politician who can't get up for the debate that might be recorded as the debate that shaped the 21st century?
. . . his is bad people, really really really bad and Obama needs to wake the f*** up!
~ themoderateman on Daily Kos
This is bad, folks. This is really bad.
I don't know if we have time to recover.
Maybe we should have voted for Hillary. She would have shown up in that debate.
. . . I have defended the President since 2008. I have given probably more than most of you have and am currently volunteering at least twice a week. This won't continue if he sucks in his next debate.
I can't defend a guy who won't defend himself.
-Romney has smelled blood. He'd go in for the kill...
-Obama has one last chance...to reverse this or we are toast...
~ comment by tuma on Daily Kos
The whole topic of conversation this weekend all over the news shows was essentially, "Does Barack Obama even want to be President?".
If the feeling in the air continues to revolve around whether our guy is spent after having been one of the best janitors this nation has ever seen, than today's polls are meaningless compared to where they'll be by the end of the week.
With his debate win, Romney is given a chance to pivot now and start speaking of his vision for our greatness and blah, blah, blah. Meanwhile, it could very well be that our side doubles down on attacking Romney as a flip-flopper. Doing so helps him come back at us with, "They're desperate and out of ideas, and that's why they're attacking me."
Obama's back is to the wall now. This is his last election. There are a number of ways he can screw this up, but there is only one way for him to succeed, and it's to go bigger and farther and more visionary than Romney.
~ MovieJay on Daily Kos
PANIC! PANIC! OH NOES! OMFG!
Oh, uh...that electoral college map thing. Never mind.
~ comment by Dracowyrm on Daily Kos
Why is it a "freak out" to recognize reality? . . . Obama blew the debate for those who wanted to see who wouldn't blow it. Period. It doesn't matter that we here all saw Obama trying to remain even-keeled and factual under the onslaught of Romney's rapid-fire Gish Gallop of utter bullsh*t. What matters is that a very large number of the somehow still undecided voting public saw the President shrink and wither under a more forceful and powerful Romney. We saw lies; the undecideds saw a command performance.
Why does recognizing that make us Chicken Littles and handwringers and pearl-clutchers and couch-fainters?
. . . Obama's only hope is that a few folks at the townhall broach the subject of Romney's lies, thereby throwing Obama a bone he can sink his teeth into. In the absence of that--or if Obama turns in another tepid, tired, I-wish-I-were-anywhere-else-but-here performance--he's screwed. And that's neither handwringing, pearl-clutching, nor couch-fainting; it's reality.
Obama blew it. Period. Agree with it, or don't. But for cryin' out loud stop with the "Obama got this chill the f*** out" bullsh*t, would you guys?
~ comment by Neapolitan on Daily Kos
Face it -- We might not win now
I've been working in and around politics for 25 years, and I have never seen as bad a week as Barack Obama just had.
And yet you folks go on cheerleading, as if this was part of some grand strategy, or as if Obama has some magic ace up his sleeve. I'll let you in on a little secret: there is no grand strategy, there is no ace up his sleeve, and we're staring down a very, very tough month.
. . . Look, I'd love to be more positive. But . . . we're going to get our asses kicked.
~ Johnthorpe on Daily Kos
...The problem is that a relatively passive PBO "lost" the debate with the help of MSM framing, crank snap pollsters, and Romney had a good debate strategy (lying works so f*** it) while Obama was not prepared for some of the rapid flip-flops. That is the problem!
~ comment by lastman on Daily Kos
First it was Obama had a fantastic, excellent debate. Then it was all part of a master jujitsu chess plan. Now the pollsters are corrupt.
Seriously? Really?
Look, there are pollsters out there who are crap. Rasmussen comes to mind. We Ask America. This Gravis whatever it is. But there are pollsters who have spent years building up a solid reputation for thoroughness and accuracy. You cant trash a good pollster when said pollster says something you don't want to hear. Nor can you tout a crap pollster when it shows something you like.
This is nutcase territory.
~ brooklynbadboy on Daily Kos
. . . it’s one thing to give a poll a lot of weight, and another to become so enthralled with it that you dismiss all other evidence. If you can trust yourself to take the polls in stride, then I would encourage you to do so. If your impression of the race is changing radically every few minutes, however, then you’re best off looking at the forecasts and projections that we and our competitors publish, along with Vegas betting lines and prediction markets.
All of these methods have slightly different ways of accounting for new information, but they do involve people who are risking either money or reputation to get it right, and who have systematic ways to weigh the evidence rather than doing so on an ad hoc basis.
~ Nate Silver, 538 Blog on NYT
That’s my party: Irrational overconfidence followed by irrational despair.
~ Democratic political consultant Jim Jordan, quoted by Politico
I was talking with an old friend who is with one of the nonpartisan polling outfits (and who also happens to be a very good and fair-minded pollster). We were discussing the large shifts in some of the polls on the presidential election and the feedback he receives whenever he puts out new numbers that make one side or the other unhappy. He offered an observation so priceless that it needs to be widely shared.
When you give conservatives bad news in your polls, they want to kill you,” he said. “When you give liberals bad news in your polls, they want to kill themselves.”
I am protecting his identity because I don’t want him to get any additional phone calls. I would only add: Buck up, liberals!
~ E.J. Dionne on Washington Post
