Our Patriotic Moment Has Come - Trump is Toast



As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to hold a vote on Impeachment this Thursday, and as the so-called President is taunted while watching the Washington Nationals play baseball with chants of "Lock Him Up" from the crowd,as well as by protestors when he visited Chicago today. Have we reached our patriotic turn of the tide at last in this country? Dare we hope that this is the beginning of the end of Trump's reign of insanity?

Is this like the moment in Casablanca when Lazslo tells the band to play Le Marseillaise?

Trump the Dysfunctional President

We've never had a President like Trump in the past 240 years since America was founded. There have been good and bad presidents, and certainly a few corrupt presidents, but Trump combines too many bad traits to list, among them arrogance, dishonesty, greed, lack of curiosity, and hotheadedness.

He also suffers from diarrhea of the mouth and of his Twitter account - he cannot keep his fingers off the buttons of his phone long enough for his aides, family or anyone else to get him to temper his language. Anyone who offends him gets a CAPSLOCK rant on Twitter the next day.

Since the FBI investigation began to heat up a few weeks ago, Trump's behavior and tweets are increasingly bizarre and inappropriate. Whether this is just a symptom of fear, his chronic Narcissism, or the early warning signs of Alzheimers, is anyone's guess. However, some have begun to call for Congress to use the 25th Amendment to remove him from office because he seems unfit to serve.



Some are calling for a panel of doctors to evaluate Trump:

Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin is urging his colleagues to get behind a bill that could potentially oust President Donald Trump if he was mentally or physically unfit to lead, and the Maryland Democrat is citing the 25th Amendment of the Constitution as his legal backup.
. . . Raskin has proposed creating an 11-member commission made up of mostly physicians and psychiatrists -- more formally called the "Oversight Commission on Presidential Capacity." The panel would carry out a medical examination and determine whether the President was physically or mentally able to do the job.

However some legal scholars feel it is an unlikely solution:

(Constitutional scholar Gloria) Browne-Marshall, a professor of constitutional law at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, told CNN Monday, "That area of medicine is already ambiguous to begin with, so I think it would be even more difficult to apply it to an unwilling patient."
She added that even if such a commission was established and even if it came to the conclusion that a president was mentally unstable, legally, all the president would have to do is "deny" the findings of the commission and those findings would be kicked back to Congress.
In that event, according to section four of the 25th Amendment, Congress would have to take a vote within 21 days "after receipt of the latter written declaration," and a "two-thirds vote of both Houses" is required to transfer power from a president to a vice-president

And since the Mueller investigation is moving at a glacial pace (considering Trump and company have been on the radar for 25 years) and the GOP-led Congress has no will to impeach a President from their own party, no matter how horrible, we are stuck with a Dysfunctional President, which rightly terrifies half of the country and most of the rest of the world.

Revelations of Comey Day

Ex-FBI Director James Comey made his much-anticipated appearance on Capital Hill in Washington last week, appearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Oh what a day it was!

His opening statement had been released the day before so the Senators had time to think up some interesting questions, and Comey had a chance to share his encounters with President Donald Trump just before he was fired.

Why did Comey choose to speak publicly? He was afraid the President would spin things differently than the truth - in other words, he called the President a liar. More than once.

Palin Urges GOP to Impeach Obama

Sarah Palin's new claim to fame is that she calls for the Impeachment of Barack Obama every time she is in front of a camera. She really, really wants the GOP to Impeach President Obama. This is a woman who couldn't get elected on a national level, and who resigned as Governor of Alaska before her term ended. So it's easy for her to judge a man who, against all the odds, won the Presidency twice, the second time in a near-landslide.

Obama has made fun of this:

You hear some of them. Sue him! Impeach him! Really? Really? For what? I mean think about that — you're going to use taxpayer money to sue me for doing my job, while you don't do your job? Huh.

DENVER — Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin urged the grassroots Saturday to support her call for the impeachment of President Obama, imploring conservatives to push the idea with Congress.
“There’s only one remedy for a president who commits high crimes and misdemeanors, and it’s impeachment,” said Ms. Palin. “It’s the I word. You don’t need some fancy law degree hanging on your wall there to know laws are not being enforced today. Illegal immigrants all over the world also know that.”
Ms. Palin drew headlines two weeks ago when she called for the president’s impeachment, citing the flood of border-crossing children as the last straw, but House Speaker John Boehner quickly put the kibosh on the proposal, saying, “I disagree.”
. . . “Okay, politicians, what are you going to do about it?” said Ms. Palin. “Let’s call their bluff. I’m calling their bluff because we need a little less talk and a lot more action.”

Enough is enough of the years of abuse from this president. His unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, “no mas.”
. . . It’s time to impeach; and on behalf of American workers and legal immigrants of all backgrounds, we should vehemently oppose any politician on the left or right who would hesitate in voting for articles of impeachment.
The many impeachable offenses of Barack Obama can no longer be ignored. If after all this he’s not impeachable, then no one is.

It appears that ex-Governor Palin has finally finished mangling the English language and has moved on to making Spanish incomprehensible. She's like a serial killer of language -- or whatever the opposite of a Rosetta Stone is.

Eric Holder, Obama's Attorney General, had this to say:

She wasn't a particularly good vice presidential candidate. She's an even worse judge of who ought to be impeached and why.

The Boehner Lawsuit is about . . . Obamacare! Surprise!

On Monday, July 7, 2014, House Speaker John Boehner made his case against President Obama in an Op-Ed for CNN:
. . . later this month, we will bring legislation to the House floor that would authorize the House of Representatives to file suit in an effort to compel President Obama to follow his oath of office and faithfully execute the laws of our country.
The President's response: "So sue me."
What's disappointing is the President's flippant dismissal of the Constitution we are both sworn to defend. It is utterly beneath the dignity of the office. I know the President is frustrated. I'm frustrated. The American people are frustrated, too.
. . . Over the last five years, starting -- not coincidentally -- when his political party lost the majority in the House of Representatives, the President has consistently overstepped his authority under the Constitution, and in so doing eroded the power of the legislative branch.
The legislative branch has an obligation to defend the rights and responsibilities of the American people, and America's constitutional balance of powers -- before it is too late.

But it wasn't until Thursday that he actually explained the basis of the lawsuit: John Boehner and the Republicans in Congress are suing President Obama over the "employer mandate" part of ACA/Obamacare which was postponed for small business owners - because they asked for it! Now the GOP is saying that Obama shouldn't have delayed it, and he overstepped the bounds of his office. But let's not forget - the GOP hates both ACA and the mandate, so this is all a farce of epic proportions. Let's just hope a Judge sees it that way and isn't in cahoots, as the Supreme Court apparently is.

On Thursday, Mr. Boehner said the lawsuit would specifically challenge the president’s decision to delay imposing penalties on employers who do not offer health insurance to employees in compliance with the Affordable Care Act.

“The current president believes he has the power to make his own laws — at times even boasting about it,” Mr. Boehner said in his statement. “He has said that if Congress won’t make the laws he wants, he’ll go ahead and make them himself, and in the case of the employer mandate in his health care law, that’s exactly what he did.”

“If this president can get away with making his own laws, future presidents will have the ability to as well,” the speaker added. “The House has an obligation to stand up for the legislative branch, and the Constitution, and that is exactly what we will do.”

When questioned about the lawsuit, Boehner blew up about Obama's lack of "responsibility." This is from a man famous for holding up votes in the House - such as Immigration - just because the Tea Party doesn't like Obama. But he's let them vote to repeal ACA/Obamacare FIFTY times! And this lawsuit is just more nonsense.

You're drunk, Boehner. Go home.

He's been President for five-and-a-half years! When is he going to take responsibility for something?

The President had quite a bit to say about the lawsuit in Texas this week, and he couched it in terms of Congress doing nothing while he is at least trying to get things done.

There are a number of Republicans, including a number in the Texas delegation, who are mad at me for taking these actions. They actually plan to sue me. (Laughter.) Now, I don’t know which things they find most offensive -- me helping to create jobs, or me raising wages, or me easing the student loan burdens, or me making sure women can find out whether they’re getting paid the same as men for doing the same job. I don’t know which of these actions really bug them. (Laughter.)

The truth is, even with all the actions I’ve taken this year, I’m issuing executive orders at the lowest rate in more than 100 years. So it’s not clear how it is that Republicans didn’t seem to mind when President Bush took more executive actions than I did. (Applause.) Maybe it’s just me they don’t like. I don’t know. Maybe there’s some principle out there that I haven’t discerned, that I haven’t figure out. (Laughter.) You hear some of them -- “sue him,” “impeach him.” Really? (Laughter.) Really? For what? (Applause.) You’re going to sue me for doing my job? Okay. (Applause.)

I mean, think about that. You’re going to use taxpayer money to sue me for doing my job -- (laughter) -- while you don’t do your job. (Applause.)

There’s a great movie called “The Departed” -- a little violent for kids. But there’s a scene in the movie where Mark Wahlberg -- they’re on a stakeout and somehow the guy loses the guy that they’re tracking. And Wahlberg is all upset and yelling at the guy. And the guy looks up and he says, “Well, who are you?” And Wahlberg says, “I’m the guy doing my job. You must be the other guy.” (Laughter and applause.) Sometimes, I feel like saying to these guys, I’m the guy doing my job, you must be the other guy. (Applause.)

So rather than wage another political stunt that wastes time, wastes taxpayers’ money, I’ve got a better idea: Do something. (Applause.) If you’re mad at me for helping people on my own, let’s team up. Let’s pass some bills. Let’s help America together. (Applause.)

It is lonely, me just doing stuff. I’d love if the Republicans did stuff, too. (Laughter.) On immigration issues, we’ve got -- and to their credit, there are some Republicans in the Senate who actually worked with Democrats, passed a bill, would strengthen the borders, would help make the system more fair and more just. But the House Republicans, they haven’t even called the bill. They won’t even take a vote on the bill. They don’t have enough energy or organization or I don’t know what to just even vote no on the bill. (Laughter.) And then they’re mad at me for trying to do some things to make the immigration system work better. So it doesn’t make sense.

In the Washington Post, Jonathan Capehart quotes Lawrence Tribe, a professor of Constitutional Law at Harvard:
Tribe told me yesterday that he is “now convinced that there’s no ‘THERE there.” And that was BEFORE the speaker released language of a bill seeking authorization to sue the president “over the way President Obama unilaterally changed the employer mandate” in the Affordable Care Act. Boehner’s announced action solidified Tribe’s view.

"The very fact that Boehner is willing to say the House of Representatives is injured by the President’s decision to delay the implementation of the employer mandate is bizarre in itself, given how often the House has voted not just to delay it but to scuttle it,” Tribe told me via e-mail last night. “And it’s hard to imagine what conceivable remedy a federal court could possibly issue: an order directing the President to reverse course and implement the employer mandate sooner? Hardly!”

. . . the House of Representatives doesn’t have standing because none of Boehner’s accusations shows any harm to the House as an institution.

Mika Brzezinski: Later this morning Senator Mitch McConnell will present a bipartisan plan to fellow Republicans that could end the shutdown and extend the nation's borrowing limit for at least a couple of months.

Joe Scarborough: Yay! (laughter)

Mika: Haven't we heard this before? . . . The Senate could vote on the bill as soon as tomorrow, however the deal does not include any language to dismantle Obamacare, nor would it include a repeal of the medical device tax - two sticking points for the Tea Party Caucus.

Mika: Senator Ted Cruz says he is still unsure whether or not he'd block a vote on the bill - come on.

Joe: Lots of Luck, Pal. You go ahead and do that.

Mika: It's unbelievable.

Joe: Just try it, Buddy. Go ahead ... (laughter) Go ahead, Big Shot. You put the full faith and credit of the United States of America on your shoulders. Have fun with that. Good luck. Do it. Do it. I dare you. I'm daring you right now. Go ahead and do it, Hot Shot.

Or are you gonna just sit in the back? And when people are responsible and actually give a damn about this country, and give a damn about the full faith and credit of the United States, and actually care about the people who are working day in and day out hoping to keep their job. You're going to keep posing and hurt those people? I don't really get it -

It's kinda like - it's great for you, I know. I know it's really great for you politically, but it's just like the Veteran's Memorial that you used as a political backdrop. It's a great backdrop until the next day, the Vets who actually organized the rally came out and were really upset that you had used their rally for your own political points.

So you guys go ahead. Just go ahead. Just keep using America as your political backdrop. And hurt all the people you want to hurt. Hurt, by the way, small government conservatives. Republicans. Working class Americans that actually used to support our party, but are now wondering what in the world - keep doing it. And I hope it really helps you out because it's sure not helping the conservative movement. It's not helping the Republican Party, and it's not helping this country, but go ahead, go ahead.

What makes me so angry is some Republicans are going to have to step up and they see that 24% conservative approval rating and they know it's going to go lower. They know the Senate's now in jeopardy. They know that the White House could be in jeopardy down the road. ...Independents who broke for Romney last time have even moved away from him (Cruz).

So now a few Republicans are going to save the full faith and credit of the nation either on the day of the Default or a few weeks later, and a few guys are going to sit in the back and throw potshots at them because they know they have to do it. And they don't have the guts to stand up and say 'You know, we're the ones who screwed this up. We're the ones who screwed up the Republican Party's ability to do well during this time.'

Representative Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, on Young Turks via Raw Story
The Young Turks caught up with the Texas Republican on Friday at the Values Voter Summit and asked him if he would vote on any deal to raise the debt ceiling.
“It just depends on what it is,” he replied. “The word ‘deal’ concerns me… if it’s good for America.”
“Would you allow us to default on our debt?” a reporter from The Young Turks wondered.
“No, that would be an impeachable offense by the president,” Gohmert declared.

Michele Bachmann Won't Seek Re-Election

Michele Bachmann, a Tea Party firebrand and 2012 presidential contender, announced on Wednesday she will not seek re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives but said her surprise decision had nothing to do with multiple investigations into her campaign finances.
. . . Bachmann also said the decision was "not impacted in any way by the recent inquiries" into her 2012 White House campaign, which is the subject of at least five federal and state investigations into potential campaign finance violations.
The Federal Election Commission, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Office of Congressional Ethics, the Iowa Senate Ethics Committee and a local Iowa police department are looking into allegations about the campaign.




"Be assured, my decision was not in any way influenced by any concerns about my being reelected to Congress. I've always in the past defeated candidates who are capable, qualified, and well-funded. And I have every confidence that if I ran, I would defeat the individual who I defeated last year, who recently announced that he is once again running. And rest assured, this decision was not impacted in any way by the recent inquiries into the activities of my former presidential campaign or my former presidential staff. It was clearly understood that compliance with all rules and regulations was an absolute necessity for my presidential campaign, and I have no reason to believe that that was not the case."

The announcement that Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) is not seeking reelection will leave the Capitol a much less interesting place to fact check. As one of our colleagues put it, “The entire fact checking industry may have to hold a national day of mourning.”
Bachmann is not just fast and loose with the facts; she is consistently and unapologetically so. No other lawmaker earned as high a percentage of Four-Pinocchio ratings as Bachmann — and she earned an average of more than Three Pinocchios as a presidential candidate.

There is, inevitably, a rambling quality to an eight-and-a-half-minute monologue. This is Bachmann's hostage video to reality. The staff decision to back her vocal track with faint Springsteenesque music was a tell—the video would have seemed ever odder without it. Bachmann was at turns defensive and defiant and bucket-list ticking, talking about her excitement at taking a plane to London to attend Margaret Thatcher’s funeral, her co-sponsorship of the 37th attempt to overturn Obamacare (“which passed in the House”), and her philosophically contradictory commitment to bring federal tax dollars to her district to build a regional airport and rebuild a bridge. Note to Bachmann: you didn’t build that.
