Palin Endorses Donald Trump

Donald Trump decided just before primary season the best thing for his campaign was to drag in another nutcase, that is Sarah Palin, and let her give a bizarre, rambling endorsement in front of the whole world. "In God's name why?" you may be thinking, and so are most Republicans -- as well as anyone with a a working brain. Is he trying to lose? Is he completely insane? Perhaps.

But Trump loves all things loud and showy, and Palin did not disappointment. Her crazy shirt looked as if she had run into a chain-link fence and brought it with her. Her rolling syntax puts the emphasis on the wrong word every single time so that no one can understand a word she is saying. Her loud shrieks about ISIS and "bitter clingin'" to guns and ammo were priceless.

Only time will tell whether her endorsement will attract the Tea Party voters or drive everyone away screaming. But even I will admit it is a very entertaining reality show.

Excerpts via New York Daily News transcript

“Thank you so much. It’s so great to be here in Iowa. We’re here just thawing out. Todd and I and a couple of our friends here from Alaska, lending our support for the next president of our great United States of America, Donald J. Trump.

Mr. Trump, you’re right, look back there in the press box. Heads are spinning, media heads are spinning. This is going to be so much fun.

Are you ready to make America great again? We all have a part in this. We all have a responsibility. Looking around at all of you; you hard-working Iowa families, you farm families and teachers and teamsters and cops and cooks; you rockin’ rollers and holy rollers! All of you who work so hard, you full-time moms, you with the hands that rock the cradle. You all make the world go round and now our cause is one.

When asked why I would jump into a primary — kind of stirring it up a little bit maybe — and choose one over some friends who are running and I’ve endorsed a couple others in their races before they decided to run for president, I was told left and right, 'you are going to get so clobbered in the press. You are just going to get beat up and chewed up and spit out.'

You know, I’m thinking, 'and?’

You know, like you guys haven’t tried to do that every day since that night in ‘08, when I was on stage nominated for VP, and I got to say, 'yeah, I’ll go, send me, you betcha. I’ll serve.'

And, like you all, I’m still standing. So those of us who’ve kind of gone through the ringer as Mr. Trump has, makes me respect you even more. That you’re here, and you’re putting your efforts and you’re putting reputations, you’re putting relationships on the line to do the right thing for this country. Because you are ready to make America great again.

Well, I am here because like you, I know that it is now or never.

. . . Only one candidate’s record of success proves he is the master of the art of the deal. He is beholden to no one but we the people. How refreshing. He is perfectly positioned to let you make America great again. Are you ready for that, Iowa?

No more pussy footin’ around! Our troops deserve the best. You deserve the best.

He is from the private sector, not a politician, can I get a 'Hallelujah!'

~~~~~~~
 So troops, hang in there, because help’s on the way because he, better than anyone, isn’t he known for being able to command, fire!
Are you ready for a commander-in-chief ... you ready for a commander-in-chief who will let our warriors do their job and go kick ISIS' ass?
~~~~~~~

But now, what they’re doing is wailing, 'well, Trump and his, uh, uh, uh, Trumpeters, they’re not conservative enough.'

Oh my goodness gracious. What the heck would the establishment know about conservatism? ...
. . . How about the rest of us? Right wingin’, bitter, clingin’, proud clingers of our guns, our God and our religions and our Constitution. Tell us that we’re not red enough? Yeah, coming from the establishment. Right.
Well, he being the only one who’s been willing, he’s got the guts to wear the issues that need to be spoken about and debated on his sleeve. Where the rest of some of these establishment candidates, they just wanted to duck and hide. They didn’t want to talk about these issues until he brought them up. In fact, they’ve been wearing a, this, political correctness kind of like a suicide vest. And enough is enough.

. . . He’s a multi-billionaire. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But, it’s amazing, he is not elitist at all. Oh, I just hope you all get to know him more and more as a person and a family man. What he’s been able to accomplish, with his, um, it’s kind of this quiet generosity. Yeah, maybe his largess, kind of, I don’t know, some would say gets in the way of that quiet generosity, and, uh, well, his compassion, but if you know him as a person and you’ll get to know him more and more, you’ll have even more respect. Not just for his record of success, and the good intentions for America, but who he is as a person. He’s not an elitist. And yes, as a multi-billionaire, we still root him on because he roots us on.

~~~~~~~
. . . Now, finally friends, I want you to try to picture this. It's a nice thing to picture. Exactly one year from tomorrow: former President Barack Obama.
He packs up the teleprompters and the selfie-sticks and the Greek columns and all that hopey, changey stuff and he heads on back to Chicago, where I’m sure he can find some community there to organize again.
There, he can finally look up. President Obama will be able to look up, and there, over his head, he’ll be able to see that shining, towering, Trump Tower. Yes, Barack, he built that. And that says a lot.
Melissa Harris-Perry Loses Her Mind Over Rachel Dolezal
Rachel Dolezal: Con Artist Passing as Black Causes Confusion
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It's a strange thing that sometimes people will agree with a notorious person as long as their philosophies or narratives somehow mesh. I guess that's what is meant by "strange bedfellows" in politics.

In the case of Rachel Dolezal, a white woman posing as a black woman, things are more muddled than that.

For some reason, Melissa Harris-Perry of MSNBC (#nerdland) decided to defend Dolezal in an very hypothetical and even nonsensical way, using the analogy of transexuals who seek to find their "real" identity. What she avoided was any semblance of a news story with facts.

From The Root

On Saturday, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry met the ire of social media after seemingly asserting that Dolezal could actually be black, despite the fact that Dolezal’s parents have said that their background was everything but black—Czech, Swedish and German.
“Is it possible that she might actually be black?” Harris-Perry questioned.
“I want to be very careful here, because I don’t want to say it’s the equivalent of the transgender experience,” she said. “But there is a useful language in ‘trans’ and ‘cis,’ which is just to say some of us are born cisgendered and some of us are born transgendered.”

Okay, now first of all, while Harris-Perry believes that "race is a social construct," it is clearly different from judging someone's gender identity - how they perceive themselves sexually in a subjective personal way. Dolezal is by all accounts objectively lying about facts and details of her life, travels and resume. Facts are facts in the real world, and not everything is conjecture. Her real white parents know who they are. Her adopted black brother knows who she is. Other people did not know the reality of Dolezal's life, and her own spin has simply been dishonest on many levels.

What infuriated Harris-Perry's viewers was that she seemed to breeze right past the idea that Dolezal is a rampant liar, as if that wasn't relevant to the story. Harris-Perry mainly wanted to make some larger point about racial identity being a personal choice. And maybe that's true for anyone who isn't a public figure. But the fact is, Rachel Dolezal has chosen to become a public figure, a university professor, and the head of the Spokane NAACP. Someone can "pass" as anything but a public figure has to bear scrutiny by the public, and cannot just keep lying to the point of being delusional.

The real world isn't make-believe.

The following day, Harris-Perry did another segment defending her first piece, defending herself while admitting that Twitter reaction was nearly unanimous - that it was "inherently problematic" to ask if Dolezal could actually be truly black. But she kept referring to "race being policed" because it is perceived as "fixed," and that shows she was missing the point again.

Trans-activist Cherno Biko made the important point that "Dolezal made a decision to start acting, while trans-folk need to stop acting."  But Harris-Perry then had another "derp" moment:

What if she (Dolezal) is not pretending? And not Rachel in particular . . . Is it possble to be born into a body that is not an authentic expression of your racial identity? And what words that might look like?

Her panel seemed dumbfounded and stared in disbelief, and no one responded because they could tell the crazy train had left the station. When Jamelle Bouie pointed out that some racial identity is imposed, then Harris-Perry asked whether gender identity wasn't also "imposed," which is also nutty considering several people on the set with her were transexuals who had "chosen" to find their "real" identities. Truly one of the most awkward moments on a talk show I've seen in my 55 years.

Senator John Thune Beclowns Himself with Obamacare Tweet

 photo 24235848.jpg

Republican Senator John Thune, R-South Dakota, beclowned himself this week when he composed a tweet meant to slam Obamacare which ended up sounding like a contradictory circular argument, as if the President will be to blame if the Supreme Court guts the law when they decide the case of King v. Burwell.

From Mother Jones
To an outside observer who may not be terribly familiar with Obamacare (née the Affordable Care Act), this seems alarming. Whoa, Obamacare may cost people their health-care subsidies? such observers may think. And the answer is, haha, well, sort of.
The subsidies that might be lost if the Supreme Court rules against the Obama administration in the case of King v. Burwell are subsidies ... that exist within the framework of Obamacare. Obamacare isn't threatening those subsidies, Obamacare is providing them. The threat to the subsidies lies with the Supreme Court case, which could interpret language within the law to exclude people who signed up through HealthCare.gov from access to those subsidies.

From Bloomberg
How Not to Make the SCOTUS Case Against Obamacare, in One Tweet
. . . On its own terms, this was difficult or impossible to parse. The aforementioned six million people living in states that count on the federal exchange to sell plans were not at risk until lawsuits were filed to end the subsidies. If the loss of subsidies was bad for the American people, then how was that the fault of the administration, who argued against the plaintiffs and called the legal challenge dilatory? Thune's Twitter timeline became a torrent of people wondering what he was talking about. Even conservatives started to ask if Thune realized how tightly he'd been wrapped around the axle.

Twitter had a field day with this one! As it should be!

Palin May Have Finally Jumped the GOP Shark This Time ~ Updated

Sarah Palin made a speech at the Iowa Freedom Summit, and once again it was weird wacky word salad, which is really just the same old, same old for we long-time Palin-watchers.

But this time even Conservatives are going "huh?" to some of her statements. The concensus after this rambling and rather disturbing speech is that Sarah has finally jumped the shark, even among her most staunchly stupid fans.

And basically the GOP is telling her to go away and let other candidates run in 2016.

But just like Frankenstein's Monster, Palin does whatever she wants to do! So she will continue to be the unwanted Elephant in the Room.

What shocked the churchly crowd at the Iowa Summit was her vulgar imagery. Family Values, folks!

From New York Daily News
“'The man can only ride you when your back is bent,” Palin said — one in a series of unusual one-liners she ad libbed after her teleprompter froze. “So strengthen it! Then the man can't ride you, America won't get taken for a ride, because so much is at stake.”

“What will they do to stop causing our pain and start feeling it again” she said in a short rant over Obamacare. “Well, in other words, um — Is Hillary a new Democrat or an old one?”

“Now the press asks, the press asks, ‘Can anyone stop Hillary?’ Again, this is to forego a conclusion, right? It's to scare us off, to convince us that — a pantsuit can crush patriots,” she added.

At another point, she yelled, “Screw the left in Hollywood” — an apparent jab at critics of the movie “American Sniper,” which some liberals have claimed glamorizes war.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Full Speech:
An impatient president doesn’t just get to trample our Constitution and ignore Congress just because he doesn’t get exactly what he wants every time he wants it,” Palin said. “It’s like an overgrown little boy who’s just acting kind of spoiled. And moms, we don’t put up with that, do we?
~ Sarah Palin Via MSNBC
Update: She was skewered by Jon Stewart of Comedy Central:
Ohhhhhhhh! The Freedom Summit, the Peak! All downhill from the summit!
. . . Ladies and gentlemen, it may be the rare, brown-haired Alaskan podium-seeker!
. . . It was all going fine until her subjects stopped talking to her verbs... Man, that's the kind of talk you hear in the drugstore just before the pharmacist says 'Ma'am, you got to leave the Walgreens.' Now we know what it's like to get cornered by Ms. Palin at an open-bar wedding. Um, listen - this Iowa Freedom Summit speech wasn't just regular-person incoherent. It was Palin-incoherent. Apparently, Gov. Palin had been forced to improvise after her teleprompter broke. But I got to tell ya - it's not that different from her on-script. Sarah Palin doesn't believe in your liberal-elitist 'grammar' and 'syntax.' She be bold! She no play by your 'ribbles' - that's what she calls rules. That's when it hit me - incoherent, rambling, unintelligible, folksy idioms. She's not speaking at a political event. Sarah Palin is trying to sell America a Lincoln (shows clip of Matthew McConaughey driving Lincoln car in commercial - switches to Palin spouting nonsense in backseat of car, LOL).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Another Update! Sam Seder on Majority Report:

Transcript from Speech: On Sexism and Racism:

Palin: Knowing what the media is going to do throughout 2016 to all of us, it’s going to take more than a village to beat Hillary! (crowd cheers, Palin giggles as chants of "Sarah! Sarah!" rise up.)

Here's how we do it, okay? (takes a drink of water from a bottle, crowd laughs). We go on offense! We go on offense now and we expect our GOP leaders in DC to get on offense, because we, the people, we realize that this is war - as I say it is war for the solvency and sovereignty of the United States of America.

And we don’t sit on our thumbs this next time when one of our own is being crucified and falsely accused of whatever the hip accusation of the day happens to be, right, racism, sexism, whatever. Really it’s kinda Orwellian observing how that works, that rule of Saul Alinsky’s, no doubt, that the left employs, disgusting charges from the left.

Reverse them! It is they who point a finger not realizing that they have triple that amount of fingers pointing right back at them revealing that they are the ones who really discriminate and divide on color and class and sex! We call them out. We don’t let them get away with it. (crowd claps)

On Gender - oh, man, this one - on Gender. It is they who defeat women, they shackle them to the good old boys running Washington, pimping this promise that they have to provide for the little ladies’ every need, because ‘there, there, a woman, she's just not capable.’ It's the Left that does that. It isn't the Right, it isn't Conservatives. So we go on offense and reveal the real war on women with truth, because we can handle the truth!”

On Saturday evening following Palin's speech, the DNC issued a short statement responding to her speech.
"Thank you!" DNC Communications Director Mo Elleithee said in the statement.
~ Huffington Post

Update 2: Dems are using Palin's speech to raise money for Hillary!

From Huffington Post
The group, Ready For Hillary, used comments about Clinton that Palin made over the weekend in Iowa to raise more than $25,000.
"It's going to take more than a village to beat Hillary," Palin said on Saturday. "I'm ready for Hillary. Are you coming?"
Ready For Hillary immediately seized on the comments and emailed supporters, asking them to donate. On Tuesday evening, the group emailed supporters again, announcing that the super PAC had raised more than $25,000 as a result of Palin's comments -- enough to qualify the former GOP candidate for vice president to be a co-chair of Ready for Hillary.

. . . more than a few GOP loyalists came away shaking their heads at the performance of a party star, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, whose long, rambling, and at times barely coherent speech left some wondering what role she should play in Republican politics as the 2016 race begins in earnest.
~ Byron York, Washington Examiner

Nicole Wallace of MSNBC, who was a handler of Sarah Palin during her ill-fated Vice Presidential run in 2008 with John McCain, pointed out that Byron York was once a Sarah Palin fanboy, but now he's apparently come to his senses:

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Byron York writes about what he calls the GOP's Palin problem. He quotes conservative activists who called the speech long and disjointed, weird, and terrible, adding it didn't make any sense. York also quotes Craig Robinson of the Iowa Republican blog who writes in part, "I'm not comfortable sharing everything I heard about the speech. It was that bad. No offense to Governor Palin, but I do think it is problematic to have someone give a speech like that in the middle of a string of serious speeches by people who are seriously thinking about running for president.

BRZEZINSKI: Obviously, Nicole, I would think you would have more insight than anyone. What do you think when you're watching this?

NICOLLE WALLACE: Well, it's interesting that Byron York came to that conclusion. In 2008 he was one of her staunchest defenders. I remember being on the cell phone with him; he was one of the harshest critics of the campaign's handling of her. I think he really thought the problem with Palin was in our packaging of Palin and to see him kind of come full circle. I mean, this is who she is. This to me is evidence that she has finally shed every last one of those annoying handlers.

Palin Post On Dog-Standing Displays Obama Derangement Syndrome

 photo palin_fishing.jpg

Sarah Palin last week posted some pictures of little son Trig standing on top the family dog. Later, the animal rights group PETA had some harsh words for Palin. And of course, Sarah being the way she is, there had to be a response and it had to be a kooky Palinesque word-salad that combines life in Alaska, fish eggs, "Librul" privilege, and Obama Derangement Syndrome. So it's all good for collectors of Palin-lore like myself.

 photo palin1_.jpg

Via USA Today
PETA President Ingrid Newkirk responded immediately to the photos:

“It’s odd that anyone — let alone a mother — would find it appropriate to post such a thing, with no apparent sympathy for the dog in the photo.”

And, as Palin bit back over the group’s initial comment, PETA responded again on Sunday.

“PETA simply believes that people shouldn’t step on dogs, and judging by the reaction that we’ve seen to Sarah Palin’s Instagram photo, we’re far from alone in that belief,” Newkirk said.

From Sarah Palin's Facebook

Dear PETA,

Chill. At least Trig didn’t eat the dog.

Hey, by the way, remember your “Woman of the Year”, Ellen DeGeneres? Did you get all wee-wee’d up when she posted this sweet picture? http://conservatives4palin.com/... Hypocritical, much?

Did you go as crazy when your heroic Man-of-Your-Lifetime, Barack Obama, revealed he actually enjoyed eating dead dog meat?

Aren’t you the double-standard radicals always opposing Alaska’s Iditarod – the Last Great Race honoring dogs who are born to run in wide open spaces, while some of your pets “thrive” in a concrete jungle where they’re allowed outdoors to breathe and pee maybe once a day? (http://iditarod.com/ http://www.irondog.org/)

Aren’t you the same herd that opposes our commercial fishing jobs, claiming I encourage slaying and consuming wild, organic healthy protein sources called “fish”? (I do.)
Aren’t you the same anti-beef screamers blogging hate from your comfy leather office chairs, wrapped in your fashionable leather belts above your kickin’ new leather pumps you bought because your celebrity idols (who sport fur and crocodile purses) grinned in a tabloid wearing the exact same Louboutins exiting sleek cowhide covered limo seats on their way to some liberal fundraiser shindig at some sushi bar that features poor dead smelly roe (that I used to strip from our Bristol Bay-caught fish, and in a Dillingham cannery I packed those castoff fish eggs for you while laughing with co-workers about the suckers paying absurdly high prices to party with the throw away parts of our wild seafood)? I believe you call those discarded funky eggs “caviar”.

Yeah, you’re real credible on this, PETA. A shame, because I’ll bet we agree on what I hope is the true meaning of your mission – respecting God’s creation and critters.

Our pets, including Trig’s best buddy Jill Hadassah, are loved, spoiled and cared for more than some people care for their fellow man whose politics may not mesh with nonsensical liberally failed ways or don’t fit your flighty standards.

Jill is a precious part of our world. So is Trig.

Sarah P. is at the Values Voter Summit, the annual wingnut parade of ultra-conservative fools, and she made another gaffe, of course. Because that's what she does. This time she managed to get the address of the White House wrong while making a point.

From Right Wing Watch
After explaining that people who believe racism exists in America today are the real racists, Palin said that it is high time for someone to speak the truth in politics…and that someone is her.
Palin lamented that “truth is an endangered species” at the famous address of “1400 Pennsylvania Avenue.”

No, the White House sits at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. I wonder who gave Sarah that misinformation to toss into her word salad? Most likely her husband Todd, who helps with all her inexplicable speeches. Could this be the start of the next Palin Brawl? Make some popcorn and stay tuned!

You know it's hard to know just how well it will turn out. There are a few things that were disconcerting. The stories about the private security firm not having enough people, the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials - that obviously is not something which is encouraging.
. . . It is impossible for absolutely no mistakes to occur. Of course there will be errors from time to time, but those are all overshadowed by the extraordinary demonstrations of courage, character and determination by the athletes.
The Games are, after all, about the athletes, the volunteers and the people of the community who come together to celebrate those athletes. As soon as the Games begin, we all forget the organisers and focus on the athletes.
. . . Do they come together and celebrate the Olympic moment? That's something which we only find out once the Games actually begin.
~ Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney in London

We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course it’s easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere.
~ British Prime Minister David Cameraon, referring perhaps to Mitt's Olympic experience in Salt Lake City, Utah

I think we will show the whole world not just that we come together as a United Kingdom but also we're extremely good at welcoming people from across the world.
~ Prime Minister Cameron, quoted by CNN

To look out of the back side of 10 Downing Street and see a venue having been constructed and knowing that athletes will be carrying out their competition almost in the backyard of the Prime Minister is really quite an accomplishment on the part of those who wanted to make sure that the Olympics was not something held far off where the people can't enjoy, but something held right in London itself
~ Mitt Romney's Palinesque Word Salad about his new view of the London Olympics after meeting with Cameron, from Independent UK

Romney Rolling Back His Previous Statements:

Like you, Mr Leader, I look forward to our conversations this morning ... and recognise, of course, the unique relationship that exists between our nations, our commitment to common values, our commitment to peace in the world and our desire to see a stronger and growing economy.
~ Mitt Romney addressing Labo Leader, Ed Ed Miliband

Mr Leader? Did Mitt Romney forget Ed Miliband's name?
~ Headline on the Independent UK

I appreciated the insights and perspectives of the leaders of the government here and the opposition here as well as the head of MI6.
~ Mitt Romney bragging about meeting ir John Sawers, the chief of Britain's MI6 Secret Intelligence Service

For our American readership, this isn't like bragging you just met David Petraeus. The British take on the national secret intelligence service comes with an extra-heavy dollop of the whole secret thing. The very existence of the MI6 was not officially acknowledged until 1994.
Good luck, Romney handlers: this is only stop No. 1 on a three-stop international tour. What will he say in Jerusalem? That when you really look at it there are some pretty daunting barriers to the peace process, like take all those Arab Israelis, how's that going to work out for a Jewish state?
~ Guardian UK

Not content with upsetting his British hosts, Mr Romney has now also managed to enrage the travelling American press corps, who pay tens of thousands of dollars to follow him around the globe. After his meeting with Ed Miliband, the Republican presidential challenger apparently took questions only from British reporters.
The gaffe-prone Mr Romney is so rarely made available to these media "embeds" on the trail that his campaign has been nicknamed the "Mittness Protection Programme". So his decision to ignore them during one such "avail" went down predictably badly.
~ John Swaine, reporter for Telegraph UK

Romney’s press-corps faux pas: During his meeting with Miliband, according to the pool report, Romney answered questions from British reporters but did not take any questions from the American reporters, which isn’t protocol. In fact, it’s considered a bit of an insult to the U.S reporters who are following the presumptive GOP presidential nominee overseas. Even bringing this up will lead some to say, “There goes the media, whining again.” But folks, those of us that have traveled overseas and been involved in these VERY limited press avails have rarely seen heads of democracies TOTALLY ignore their own press corps but answer ANOTHER press corps’ questions. Sure, it would have looked REALLY bad had Romney ignored the U.K. questions. But is the campaign so intent on limiting media access that the candidate won’t call an audible when standing next to a leader from another country who DOES want to take questions?

The Gaffe-Tastic Mr. Romney
~ Headline on Salon.com

What accounts for Romney’s capacity to consistently insult even those he’s trying to court? I’d argue it’s his fantastic sense of entitlement, with its accompanying inability to feel empathy for the less fortunate. It may or may not be connected to his pranking/bullying impulse, which showed itself in his school days when he forcefully cut the hair of a gay classmate, led a sight-impaired teacher into a closed door, or intimated friends by impersonating a state trooper. Romney clearly lacks the ability to put himself in the shoes of others (except other wealthy business owners). That’s a bad trait on the campaign trail, but when it extends to the leaders of other sovereign nations, it’s a terrible trait in a president.

UPDATE 2

I hear there's a guy called Mitt Romney who wants to know whether we're ready. He wants to know whether we're ready. Are we ready? Are we ready? Yes, we are!
~ Boris Johnson to the crowd waiting for the Olympic Torch in Hyde Park today

Mitt Romney made all kinds of news for saying and doing the wrong things in the first full day of his trip to London. The trip was meant to make him look presidential. In the apt summation of John Podhoretz, it made him look like Mr. Bean. The Romney show continues tomorrow, when he attends the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games. Should be fun!
• British politicians David Cameron and Boris Johnson took umbrage at Romney's remarks and ridiculed Romney in front of tens of thousands of people, respectively. We can't believe we just typed that sentence.
~ The Guardian UK

All he has to do is show up and say wonderful stuff about his host and why we're going to be strong allies. And everybody in those countries and around the world will understand. It's a rebuke, without saying so, a silent rebuke to Obama - 'you treated the Brits and the Poles and the Israelis pretty shabbily, particularly the Brits. Remember when he came into the Oval Office he removed the bust of Churchill. There's a state department spokesman who said 'there's no special relationship,' etcetera, etcetera, a long list of stuff....
All Romney has to do, say nothing. It’s like a guy in the 100-meter dash. All he has to do is to finish, he doen’t have to win. And instead, he tackles the guy in the lane next to him and ends up disqualified. I don’t get it.

• In April, Romney adviser and former Navy secretary John Lehman accused Obama of not doing enough to protect America from the Soviets in the Arctic.
“We’re seeing the Soviets pushing into the Arctic with no response from us,” he said on a Romney campaign conference call. “In fact, the only response is to announce the early retirement of the last remaining icebreaker.”

• That same month, Romney caught himself just after he fired off a warning about the Soviet threat.
“Obama ‘entered into an agreement with the Soviets, excuse me, with Russia’ in the nuclear arms START treaty that effectively required the United States to reduce its weapons stockpile while allowing Russia to increase its stockpile,” Romney said on April 20.
