Excerpt of Snowden Email to Former Sen. Gordon Humphrey of New Hampshire
Mr. Humphrey,
Thank you for your words of support. I only wish more of our lawmakers shared your principles - the actions I've taken would not have been necessary.
The media has distorted my actions and intentions to distract from the substance of Constitutional violations and instead focus on personalities. It seems they believe every modern narrative requires a bad guy. Perhaps it does. Perhaps, in such times, loving one's country means being hated by its government.

. . .  no intelligence service - not even our own - has the capacity to compromise the secrets I continue to protect. While it has not been reported in the media, one of my specializations was to teach our people at DIA how to keep such information from being compromised even in the highest threat counter-intelligence environments (i.e. China).
 You may rest easy knowing I cannot be coerced into revealing that information, even under torture.

So everyone is to understand that Snowden's counter-cyber-intelligence capability is greater than that of the U.S. government, Chinese government, and Russian government ... combined?
Also, that methods of torture that make waterboarding look like a walk in the park — fingernail torture, cattleprods, smashed toes, blaring Sesame Street songs directly into the ears for hours on end — are all in a day's work for Snowden?
Pretty strange coming from a guy who allegedly fled Hong Kong for fear of losing Internet, who's now growing "tired" of living in a Moscow airport's hotel.

. . . countries around the world have offered support and asylum. These nations, including Russia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Ecuador have my gratitude and respect for being the first to stand against human rights violations carried out by the powerful rather than the powerless. By refusing to compromise their principles in the face of intimidation, they have earned the respect of the world. It is my intention to travel to each of these countries to extend my personal thanks to their people and leaders.

I announce today my formal acceptance of all offers of support or asylum I have been extended and all others that may be offered in the future. With, for example, the grant of asylum provided by Venezuela’s President Maduro, my asylee status is now formal, and no state has a basis by which to limit or interfere with my right to enjoy that asylum.

Snowden nominated for Nobel Peace Prize by Swedish professor
A sociology professor in Sweden has recommended NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden for the Nobel Peace Prize, the Daily Mail reported.
In a letter addressed to the Norwegian Nobel Committee and published in Swedish newspaper Västerbottens-Kuriren, Professor Stefan Svallfors nominated Snowden for his 'heroic effort at great personal cost' shedding light on the expansive cyber-spying conducted by the U.S. National Security Agency.
Because of his bravery, Snowden 'helped to make the world a little bit better and safer,' Svallfors wrote.
. . . But it may be too late for Snowden to receive the award this year.
Nominations for laureates must be postmarked no later than February 1 for consideration in the following December's prizes.
Between the months of March and August the advisers review the short list of candidates.
However, Svallfors' nomination should be taken seriously by the committee for next year's prize.

Snowden seems to have an understanding of government that is actually child-like in its self-centeredness. Someone who breaks the law for what he thinks is right regardless of the consequences is, at best, a vigilante. What vigilante would ever logically then use the law as a shield? He has, by nature, already abandoned the values for which it stands. Like the monopoly "banker" who sneaks a large note and then dubiously questions where you got the money to buy your railroads, Edward Snowden doesn't want to play by the rules but at the same time is demanding the protection they afford. He comes off as pitiful as a board-game cheater.
. . . When a person breaks the law he has to face the consequences. Disobedience, even when civil, is risky. There is no Get Out Of Jail Free card for believing that breaking the law is justified. In order to enact change, one has to prove, through often-difficult trials, that such lawlessness is necessary to serve a greater moral good. This will be rather difficult for young Edward from his new condo in Siberia.

John Boehner - Nowhere Man

WALLACE: How would you characterize the deal the Treasury Secretary Geithner offered you on behalf of the president this week?

BOEHNER: A non-serious proposal.

The president is asking for $1.6 trillion worth of new revenue over 10 years, twice as much as he has been asking for in public. He has stimulus spending in here that exceeded the amount of new cuts that he was willing to consider.

It was not a serious offer.

WALLACE: Take us behind the scenes. Take us inside the room. What was the mood music when Tim Geithner sits there, like we are here and presented this to you? What did you say?

BOEHNER: I was flabbergasted. I looked him and said, "You can't be serious."
I've just never seen anything like it. You know, we've got seven weeks between Election Day and the end of the year. And three of those weeks have been wasted with this nonsense.

WALLACE: OK. So, if they are wasted, where are we now? And, quite frankly, what are the chances we're going to end up going over the cliff?

BOEHNER: Well, right now, I would say -- we're nowhere, period. We're nowhere.

We've put a serious offer on the table by putting revenues up there to try to get this question resolved. But the White House has responded with virtually nothing. They've actually asked for more revenue than they have been asking for the whole entire time.

WALLACE: I want to ask you one other question about their offer, because this was a real surprise. Geithner also said they want you, Congress, to give up any powers over voting an increase in the debt limit forever.

BOEHNER: Forever. Silliness.

Congress is not going to give up this power. I've made it clear to the president, that every time we get to the debt limit, we need to cut some reforms that are greater than the increase in the debt limit. It's the only way to leverage the political process to produce more change than what it would if left alone.

WALLACE: You've talked about the fact that the president won and you came out with a concession the day after the election. They point out that the president campaigned on raising tax rates, you know, and it was the big issue, between him and Romney. And, they say, just as he had to cave, after your victory in the 2010 midterms, now, it's your turn to cave on tax rates.

BOEHNER: Listen, what is this difference where the money comes from? We put $800 billion worth of revenue, which is what he's asking for, out of eliminating the top two tax rates.

But, here's the problem, Chris, when you go and increase tax rates, you make it more difficult for our economy to grow. Half of that income is the small business income. It's going to get taxed at a higher rate. And as a result, we're going to see slower economic growth.

Operation Rolling Tantrum
Oh, boy. This isn’t going to end, even when or if a deal is reached on defusing the austerity bomb; John Boehner has just declared that he’s going to hold the full faith and credit of the United States hostage every time we hit the debt limit. Nor will it be a case of holding the nation at gunpoint until it meets GOP demands; Republicans are signaling that they don’t intend to make any specific proposals, they’re just going to yell and stamp their feet until Obama soothes them somehow.

Boehner just shot himself in the foot
. . . If he's saying that it doesn't matter whether we have revenue from the rich or spending cuts from the rest, this is pretty devastating. It shows how out of touch they are with the middle class, and if I was Obama, I would hammer that every day.

This is all a win-win for the President. If he gets what he wants in the negotiations he looks good. If we go over the cliff which is looks like we are, all the polls show the American people will mostly blame the Republicans.
