Trump and Bannon and Breitbart

Train Wreck photo train.jpg

The Trump campaign has pushed aside Putin-ite Paul Manafort and turned to the far-right (or "alt-right") wingnuts from Breitbart instead. They are vowing to use a scorched earth policy to defeat Hillary Clinton in November. Meanwhile, there is idle chatter of a "pivot" away from racism, sexism, and hate, but no real evidence that it is anything but talk. With Steve Bannon from Breitbart now in charge, there is little chance that Trump will ever change. But Bannon also comes with a host of excess baggage, such as anti-Semitism, voter fraud, and possible wife abuse, so how long will he last in Trumpland?

From 538.com
Stephen Bannon, executive chairman of Breitbart News, was the campaign’s new CEO. Pollster Kellyanne Conway was now Trump’s campaign manager.
... Bannon’s hiring is widely perceived as a turning point in Trump campaign strategy. Instead of Paul Manafort’s attempts at polishing his diamond-in-the-populist-rough candidate for the establishment Republican set, Bannon is likely to steer Trump toward more rough and tumble lines of attack....Trump called into question Clinton’s health more explicitly. “To defeat crime and radical Islamic terrorism in our country, to win trade in our country, you need tremendous physical and mental strength and stamina,” he said in Wisconsin. “Hillary Clinton doesn’t have that strength and stamina.”
...In a 2015 Bloomberg Businessweek profile, Bannon told a reporter of the site’s bravado, even in the face of contradictory facts: “We’re honey badgers. We don’t give a shit,” a reference to an ancient internet meme from 2011. It seems impossible to conclude that at least some of this spirit won’t seep into the Trump campaign.

From The New York Times
. . . Mr. Bannon was appointed a day after the recently ousted Fox News chairman, Roger Ailes, emerged in an advisory role with Mr. Trump. It was not lost on Republicans in Washington that two news executives whose outlets had fueled the anti-establishment rebellion that bedeviled congressional leaders and set the stage for Mr. Trump’s nomination were now directly guiding the party’s presidential message and strategy.

Now that the Supremes have upheld Obamacare twice - today and in 2012 - the same people on the far right still want to blame Chief Justice Roberts for being a traitor to their cause. Never mind how frivolous these lawsuits are, or how many people would suffer if Obamacare was taken away.

The GOP just doesn't want to admit defeat, so they scream, kick, and snarl about Justice Roberts and how "unfair" it is that he upheld a legally passed law giving health care for millions.

Between this ruling on Obamacare and the fact that Confederate Flags are coming down all over the South, this hasn't been a happy week for the Tea Party and their minions. They are all about the butthurt and tears of impotent rage. After they get these Supreme Court Tantrums out of their systems, they can either take a nap or go to the happy chair in the corner.

Right Wing Smears Wendy Davis for being Wendy Davis ~ Updated With More Vitriol

The GOP in Texas is really scared of Wendy Davis and they've started a smear campaign to prove it. It was bound to happen. She is a dream candidate for the Democrats in Texas in her bid for Governor and is getting financial help from all over the country. Whether she wins or not, she has become a national figure, and a huge target for the Right. Bring it on - she will just raise more money!

From the Dallas Morning News
A single mother working two jobs, she met Jeff Davis, a lawyer 13 years older than her, married him and had a second daughter. He paid for her last two years at Texas Christian University and her time at Harvard Law School, and kept their two daughters while she was in Boston. When they divorced in 2005, he was granted parental custody, and the girls stayed with him. Wendy Davis was directed to pay child support.
In an extensive interview last week, Davis acknowledged some chronological errors and incomplete details in what she and her aides have said about her life.
“My language should be tighter,” she said. “I’m learning about using broader, looser language. I need to be more focused on the detail.”

Letter from the Wendy Davis for Governor Campaign in Texas
Dear Friend,
As our campaign has gained momentum, our opponents have gotten more and more desperate. But now they’ve stooped to a new low by attacking my family, my education, and my personal story – playing politics with the journey that has been my life.
Mine is a story about a teenage single mother who struggled to keep her young family afloat. It’s a story about a young woman who was given a precious opportunity to work her way up in the world. It’s a story about resiliency, and sacrifice, and perseverance.
And you’re damn right it’s a true story.

The connotation is, you (ex-husband Jeff Davis was)... supporting a family and raising her kids. She was neither supporting a family nor raising her kids. She married a sugar daddy, whom she asked to meet. He supported her. He raised the kids, while she went to Harvard Law School.
~ Ann Coulter on Fox News

So this woman is just a fake. And she was readily embraced by the Democrat Party because she somehow was able to make some case, filibustering an anti-abortion law made to order, and they embraced her and just like Brad Pitt bought the wood, the Democrats embraced this babe, and it turns out that her life story has been blurred. So that's one of the scandals. I mean, "blurred" is not the word. She lied about her life story.

Pope Attack on Money-Worship Leaves Righties "Spitting with Rage"

 photo a7ed72e2ab551625c0d4cbfbc6cfbf6d.jpg

From Reuters
Francis went further than previous comments criticizing the global economic system, attacking the "idolatry of money" and beseeching politicians to guarantee all citizens "dignified work, education and healthcare".

He also called on rich people to share their wealth. "Just as the commandment 'Thou shalt not kill' sets a clear limit in order to safeguard the value of human life, today we also have to say 'thou shalt not' to an economy of exclusion and inequality. Such an economy kills," Francis wrote in the document issued on Tuesday.

"How can it be that it is not a news item when an elderly homeless person dies of exposure, but it is news when the stock market loses 2 points?"

The pope said renewal of the Church could not be put off and said the Vatican and its entrenched hierarchy "also need to hear the call to pastoral conversion".

Pope Gives Breitbart's Michael Leahy "Chills"
Eight months after Pope Francis I was elevated to the papacy, he has, in effect, placed the worldwide apparatus of the Roman Catholic Church on record in favor of statism and in opposition to free markets. The pope's statement on Tuesday showed a remarkable ignorance of free market capitalism. Indeed, his judgmental rejection of the economic system that has delivered billions of people throughout the world from poverty is chilling.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stuart Varney on Fox - Greed is Good
Capitalism, in my opinion, is a liberator. The free choice of millions of people is the essence of freedom. In my opinion, society benefits most when people are free to pursue their own self-interest. I know that sounds like a contradiction, but it is not. When individuals are free, we collectively are better off in every way, financially and spiritually.
. . . I go to church to save my soul. It’s got nothing to do with my vote. Pope Francis has linked the two. He has offered direct criticism of a specific political system. He has characterized negatively that system. I think he wants to influence my politics.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have been numerous times to the Vatican. It wouldn't exist without tons of money. But regardless, what this is, somebody has either written this for him or gotten to him. This is just pure Marxism coming out of the mouth of the pope. Unfettered capitalism? That doesn't exist anywhere. Unfettered capitalism is a liberal socialist phrase to describe the United States. Unfettered, unregulated.
. . . reading what the pope's written about this is really befuddling because he's totally wrong -- I mean, dramatically, embarrassingly, puzzlingly wrong. Here's another excerpt. "Pope Francis said that trickle-down policy..." We hear about trickle-down policies? "Pope Francis said that trickle-down policies have not proven to work."
Oh, but they have. It's exactly what Obama is trying to create, in fact, although he wouldn't dare call it that. When you hear Obama talking about job creation and people going to work and roads and bridges being -- what the hell is it but trickle-down? The left has defined trickle-down as the rich are compassionate and give people things. And when that doesn't happen, they say that trickle-down doesn't work. The left has bastardized terms and definitions to the point that trickle-down's become a dirty word.
Trickle-down is human nature! Trickle-down is exactly what happens when you engage in economic activity. You spend money and it trickles down to everybody you spend it with, and then it trickles down to everybody they end up interacting with economically. Trickle-down is precisely what happens. But the left has defined trickle-down as the rich are supposed to give the money that they don't need away to people.

Tea Party Activist Jonathan Moseley Thinks He Knows Jesus Better
Jesus Christ is a capitalist
One truth shines out from the Bible: Jesus spoke to the individual, never to government or government policy. Jesus was a capitalist, preaching personal responsibility, not a socialist.
Pope Francis condemned capitalism. Some argue that Francis’ Spanish-language Apostolic Exhortation was mistranslated. But Francis is not among those disputing that translation. Moreover, corrected translations are no better.
Francis argues for dependence upon government to redistribute wealth. And con artists in the U.S. are seizing on the opportunity to spread the misery of socialism.
. . . Jesus Christ is weeping in heaven hearing Christians espouse a socialist philosophy that has created suffering and poverty around the world. It is impossible to love one’s neighbor as yourself without fighting against socialism, meaning government meddling in private lives.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tim Worstall on Forbes is "Spitting" and "Snarling"
. . . despite the fact that I was well and expensively educated by the Benedictines to be a good Catholic gentleman I’m afraid that my reaction to it is barely controlled rage, so much so that I am close to taking the name of Il Pappa in vain. For in the section on economics and development the Pontiff seems to misunderstand the very world that we live in. He claims that we are such slaves to a market driven society that we have lost touch with the travails of the poor and are allowing inequality to increase. This being the exact obverse of what is really happening out there in the universe that we actually inhabit.
. . . everything is moving in the right direction even if not quite as gloriously fast as we would like it to be.
And as I say that’s what has me spitting with rage and coming close to snarling at the good and brave man who is the current Pope. The market based economic system that he is complaining about is exactly the economic system that is in the process of solving the problems that he identifies.
Vladimir Putin Contradicts Obama in NY Times ~ Now with Greenwald Smackdown and Dude Bro' Hayes
 photo PutinWink_zps9daeb848.png
Excerpt from the New York Times
. . . From the outset, Russia has advocated peaceful dialogue enabling Syrians to develop a compromise plan for their own future. We are not protecting the Syrian government, but international law. We need to use the United Nations Security Council and believe that preserving law and order in today’s complex and turbulent world is one of the few ways to keep international relations from sliding into chaos. The law is still the law, and we must follow it whether we like it or not. Under current international law, force is permitted only in self-defense or by the decision of the Security Council. Anything else is unacceptable under the United Nations Charter and would constitute an act of aggression.
No one doubts that poison gas was used in Syria. But there is every reason to believe it was used not by the Syrian Army, but by opposition forces, to provoke intervention by their powerful foreign patrons, who would be siding with the fundamentalists. Reports that militants are preparing another attack — this time against Israel — cannot be ignored.
. . . My working and personal relationship with President Obama is marked by growing trust. I appreciate this. I carefully studied his address to the nation on Tuesday. And I would rather disagree with a case he made on American exceptionalism, stating that the United States’ policy is “what makes America different. It’s what makes us exceptional.” It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation. There are big countries and small countries, rich and poor, those with long democratic traditions and those still finding their way to democracy. Their policies differ, too. We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.
Vladimir V. Putin is the president of Russia.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

From President Obama's Speech Syria 9-10-2013:
Moreover, we know the Assad regime was responsible. In the days leading up to August 21st, we know that Assad’s chemical weapons personnel prepared for an attack near an area where they mix sarin gas.

The White House Responds to Putin
“That’s all irrelevant,” the White House official said in response. “He put this proposal forward and he’s now invested in it. That’s good. That’s the best possible reaction. He’s fully invested in Syria’s CW disarmament and that’s potentially better than a military strike – which would deter and degrade but wouldn’t get rid of all the chemical weapons. He now owns this. He has fully asserted ownership of it and he needs to deliver.”

Matt Drudge Denounces GOP, but Right Wing Not Ready to Join Him

 photo drudge2.jpg

Is Matt Drudge joining the Tea Party?
~ Greta Van Susteren on Fox News

Greta & her buddies only understand the 2-dimensional landscape. Unfortunately or fortunately, Drudge is like a 64-bit program that cannot be understood by a 32-bit operating system.
~ NSD on Breitbart

Last time I checked we are still a 2 Party system that works through a
run-off process of primaries. Which is why we're not France !
Why did Rush Limbaugh Promote Romney ?
Suspect the same reason. No one wants to be France!
~ chitownhustler on Breitbart

The tea party needs to take over the Republican party by primarying every RINO. You cannot do that if you are not a registered Republican.
~ Ronwagn on Breitbart

...These tweets by Drudge are pathetic and laughable. We have people like Drudge, Rove and Coulter to thank for their contributions to the worthlessness of the GOP. When the GOP establishment wants to ram yet another terrible candidate down our throats, they have people like Matt Drudge that they can count on to help push their propaganda and make it happen. And now Drudge has the audacity to criticize the very problem within the GOP that he has helped to foster? No, on the contrary, Drudge is exactly the type of person who belongs within the decaying, useless, establishment section of the GOP, as was made loud and clear with his despicable shilling for Romney in 2012. When the GOP finally dies, which I hope it will, a new, truly conservative and/or libertarian party should be ashamed if they will have Drudge as a member.
~ Country is Dead on Breitbart

Drudge is sure right about the "who are they?" part!
The Tea Party should be called the "Patriot Party" IMO.
They are the ONLY conservative group willing to say what needs being said to promote our Country as founded.
We should seriously consider Sarah IMO.
Republicans are becoming useless as testies on a clergyman
these days. Most are RINOs like McCain, Grahamnisty, Boehner & Rubio. They are useless to our cause.
We also need TERM LIMITS!
Which Republican has authored THAT Bill??????????????????
~ Fred on Fox News Insider

Oh Matt, you are late to the party....again.

libertarians are scum of the Earth

Concur with Drudge. Why vote Republican when they have demonstrated that they delight in stabbing us in the back (and the front) over and over again!
They have demonstrated countless times that they don't care one wit about us until they need money or our vote. Once they get that then they do WHATEVER they want!
Send Boehner's kid to be the first to die in the Syrian cesspool. Send Mehgan McCain off to Syria!

All others that may have an (R) after their name and are career politicians I won’t vote for them. Yeah, lets fragment and guarantee Marxist rule for our children. The Left NEVER cannibalizes itself over purity. NEVER!
I just love you phony patriots who are too cowardly to actually be Republicans, standing around calling them RINOs and gutless.
The stand should be against the DEMOCRATS and our guys will work themselves out. It's no time to be breaking off into little smug groups of "purists" while the country is taken over!
~ Deb on Free Republic

I really hate to be an optimist but this is kind of a big deal. Drudge is MASSIVELY INFLUENTIAL. I think we just came out of the closet. So to speak.
~ Smudge Pot on The Daily Paul

I'll believe it when Drudge and Beck do a Ron Paul telethon to raise money to audit the Fed.
~ economics31 on The Daily Paul

I've been saying the same thing for over a year now, not that I'm proud that it took me that long to finally wake up. The GOP is the rotting corpse of politics in America. Surely a new Conservative party is close on the horizon.
~ WilliamWallace on The Daily Caller

It’s hard, not to lose faith in America, when both parties are dancing on
the deck of the Titanic, while the rest of us stand at the rail of the ship, staring in horror at the iceberg.
The government has become too big and the corruption widespread and pervasive. It’s time to start again with a New America.
John Galt Take Me With You dotcom
~ BRush on The Daily Caller

There is the party of big powerful government, and then there is the party of even more big powerful government. Be very careful Drudge, the truth is treason in an empire of lies.

Reporter Snark about "Friends of Hamas" Becomes Fake GOP Talking Point

Photobucket

Ben Shapiro on Breitbart
On Thursday, Senate sources told Breitbart News exclusively that they have been informed that one of the reasons that President Barack Obama’s nominee for Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel, has not turned over requested documents on his sources of foreign funding is that one of the names listed is a group purportedly called “Friends of Hamas.”
. . . Called for comment and reached via telephone, Associate Communications Director at the White House Eric Schultz identified himself, heard the question, was silent for several seconds, and then hung up the phone immediately without comment. Called back via the White House switchboard, Schultz’s phone rang through to his answering machine. Called on his cell phone, Schultz’s phone rang through to his answering machine.

Photobucket

From the Hugh Hewitt Conservative Talk Show with Rand Paul
HH: Well, let’s stay focused on Friends Of Hamas. Obviously, that would be a support group for a terrorist organization. Can you imagine voting or not filibustering anyone who’d received support from supporters of a terrorist organization?
Rand Paul: Like I say, it’s very troubling. And I’ve just seen the press report, so I’m going to have to look at what the response is, what the group is, and that kind of thing. But it is very concerning.

If it proves true the rumors of Chuck Hagel's having received funds from Friends of Hamas, if that's true then on its face that would disqualify him.
~ Conservative Radio and TV Pundit, and ex-Republican Candidate, Mike Huckabee

Rumors abound on Capitol Hill that a full disclosure of Hagel’s professional ties would reveal financial relationships with a number of “unsavory” groups, including one purportedly called “Friends of Hamas.” The GOP aide said it was “noteworthy” that the White House has yet to deny the association. “Maybe it’s not true, but why not provide a list of groups he spoke to and remove all doubt?” the aide said.
~ National Review

Well this is certainly an eye opener. According to Senate sources, the reason Hagel hasn’t released documents on his sources of foreign funding is because he received funding by a group named “Friends of Hamas”.
~ The Right Scoop

That is quite the accusation, and it gives the Left a rare opportunity to go after the Breitbart constellation of websites. All they have to do to debunk it is to have Hagel reveal his foreign donors. I mean, how likely is it that the White house could have messed up vetting Chuck Hagel that badly…
~ Moe Lane on Red State

But Wait Just a Minute . . .

"Friends of Hamas": The Scary-Sounding Pro-Hagel Group That Doesn't Actually Exist
Here's the problem: There's no proof that "Friends of Hamas" actually exists. At best, it's an organization so secret that nobody in government has thought to mention its existence. At worst, it's as fake as Manti Te'o's girlfriend. The Treasury Department, which designates sponsors of terror, has done so to many charities tied to Hamas. "Friends of Hamas" is not among them. The State Department doesn't designate it, either. And a bit less holistically, a Lexis search for the group reveals absolutely nothing.
~ David Weigel on Slate, and one of the first to realize that Friends of Hamas does not exist

Oh, Perhaps This is Why . . .

Dan Friedman of New York Daily News
Fortunately for Hagel, this claim, which galloped across the Internet, was bogus. I know, because I was the unwitting source.
. . . On Feb. 6, I called a Republican aide on Capitol Hill with a question: Did Hagel’s Senate critics know of controversial groups that he had addressed?
Hagel was in hot water for alleged hostility to Israel. So, I asked my source, had Hagel given a speech to, say, the “Junior League of Hezbollah, in France”? And: What about “Friends of Hamas”?
The names were so over-the-top, so linked to terrorism in the Middle East, that it was clear I was talking hypothetically and hyperbolically. No one could take seriously the idea that organizations with those names existed — let alone that a former senator would speak to them.
. . . I erred in counting on confidentiality and the understanding that my example was farcical — and by assuming no one would print an unchecked rumor.
If anyone didn’t know already: Partisan agendas, Internet reporting and old-fashioned carelessness can move complete crocks fast. If you see a story on Hagel addressing the Junior League of Hezbollah, that’s fake too.

Shapiro is Kinda Ticked-Off . . .

NY Daily News Hack Posits He's Source of 'Friends of Hamas,' Lies by Omission
. . . Friedman knew his story was false when he printed it. He printed it anyway. The story Breitbart News ran originally was accurate and clearly caveated. Dan Friedman was not the source of the information given to Breitbart News. But the media is already jumping to help Friedman push his narrative. It’s all part of the mission to protect Barack Obama and Chuck Hagel. Because, after all, this is the most easily debunked story in the world: all Chuck Hagel has to do is release his records.

~ Andrew Shapiro on Breitbart AFTER Friends of Hamas was shown to be Bogus Group

~~~~~~~~~~~~
If the rumor-mongering was limited to conservative blogs, it wouldn’t be as worrisome. Unfortunately, prominent Republicans have been all too keen to go along with the line of questioning started by Breitbart.
~ Think Progress
So … Chuck Hagel has no ties to a group called “Friends of Hamas.” Ahem … Because no such group exists. But right wingers, and the McCarthyite Senators they’ve gone and elected, and their silly “news” cable channel, and their talk radio guys, and their blogs, just need, NEED, NEEEEED, to hate Barack Obama and everyone around him so desperately, they’ll believe damned near everything.
. . . And therein lies the problem with the right. They start at the end, rather than the beginning — so filled with the desire to believe the worst, that they’ll just as easily believe the stupidest.
~ The Reid Report
Stephen Colbert on Comedy Central, February 21, 2013
Senate Republicans have found all sorts of shady associations in Hagel's past. For instance, he was once a Senate Republican.
(laughter)
And now, according to conservative news anger-gator Breitbart.com, Hagel may have taken money from an organization called "Friends of Hamas."
(laughter and boos)
Friends of Hamas, that is serious. Being friends with a Muslim terrorist is a big commitment. (laughter) You've got to be groomsman in all four of their weddings. I mean, the suicide vest-rental alone . . .
(laughter)
Folks, this bombshell has lit up the conserve-o-sphere.
(plays audio about Breitbart, Rand Paul, and Fox News talking about Friends of Hamas)
Lou Dobbs of Fox: Friends of Hamas. That has a ring to it.
Colbert: Yes, that has a ring to it. A ring that goes something like this:
(Rings large bell, sound of Arab women making high-pitched sound - audience laughs and claps)
And folks, Friends of Hamas is even worse than it sounds because this organization is so sinister that it doesn't even exist.
It turns out Hagel's link with Friends of Hamas goes back to Daily News Reporter Dan Friedman who asked a Republican Senate Aide looking for dirt in Hagel's past if Hagel had given a speech to the "Junior League of Hezbollah" or the "Friends of Hamas" - "assuming that no one could take seriously the idea that organizations with those names existed."
(laughter)
Why wouldn't you take it seriously?
I mean, if there's no Junior League of Hezbollah then who puts out the cookbook of Bomb Recipes?
Besides, the fact that these organizations don't exist only makes it more suspicious that Chuck Hagel has been tied to them!
What else is he hiding that hasn't happened?
(laughter)
Is he a member of the Al Qaeda Kidz Club?
What about the Muslim Brotherhood?
Or the Muslim Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants?
(laughter and clapping)
And what about Non-Islamic Non-Existant Groups?
Has Chuck Hagel ever given a speech to Cobra, or for that matter Cobra Kai?
Has he received donations from the Lollipop Guild?
(laughter)
What are his ties to the Dead Poets Society? And why are they dead? Do they know too much about Benghazi?
(laughter)
President Obama, you must withdraw Hagel's nomination or you will lose the support of of every Moderate Republican, another group that doesn't exist.
