Clownish Mitch McConnell Filibusters Himself in Historic Senate First

Photobucket

Story from Mediaite
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) may have made United States senate history today when he beat his own legislative baloney, blocking a straight up-or-down vote on a proposal that he, himself, offered for a vote Thursday morning. The bill, which would have taken the debt ceiling gun away from the head of the U.S. economy by requiring a two-thirds majority to override a presidential increase to the debt ceiling, was McConnell’s idea, but when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid agreed with McConnell’s request for a vote on the bill Thursday afternoon, McConnell objected.

The Republican leader objects to his own idea. So I guess we have a filibuster of his own bill.
~ Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, via TPM

This may be a moment in Senate history when a senator … filibustered his own proposal. I don’t think this has ever happened before.
~ Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, D-IL, via TPM

I've got whiplash.
~ Claire McCaskill, acting Senate Officer, after McConnell decided to filibuster his own bill, via C-Span

I heard if you filibuster yourself TOO much you'll go blind.

The floor reconizes the Senator from D'oh.

His Karma ran over his dogma.

It's like they set out to demonstrate why exactly the filibuster as currently used is insane. "What if someone proposes a bill, and the Senate leader then actually lets people vote on it? Because he is fiendish! Then the person who proposed the bill would need to hold a filibuster to stop that bill. Because we have to STOP STUFF FROM GETTING DONE! And that's why we need the silent filibuster. The talking one would be mega inconvenient, when the chamber gets all nutjobby about voting on stuff we proposed just this morning."

For his next act, McTurtle will hit himself in the face with cream pies!
~ comment by Shakezula on Talking Points Memo

The Democrats should introduce a bill to put McConnell face on Mt. Rushmore. And then filibuster it. Think of the possibilities, they are almost limitless.

Republican Sick of "Sob Stories" about the Poor

Photobucket

I see a reporter here. I just pray that you start writing about these issues. I just pray. Stop always writing about, 'Oh, the person couldn't get, you know, their food stamps or this or that.' You know, I saw something the other day -- it's like, another sob story, and I'm like, 'But what about what's happening to the country and the country as a whole?' That's going to devastate everybody.
~ Eric Hovde, who is running for the Senate in Wisconsin Primary on August 14th

"I don't care if they like me in the Senate"

What is the Prayer that Eric Hovde Prays to end these "sob stories"?...
Dear Jesus, I know all of that talk about the poor in the New Testament was all just parables and code words. I know that the richest people on earth are the one who you love the most. Please make those annoying reporters stop wasting time on stories about the poor in this country. They live in America where a guy who lives in Washington DC can run for Senate in Wisconsin, so if i can overcome those odds, than those poor lazy people can go eat at McDonalds and stop bothering me.
~ Chris Liebenthal on Cognitive Dissonance

He should be a poster child for Man's inhumanity to Man.
~ comment by John Garvin on ThinkProgress

Instead, he wants more stories about struggling billionaires trying to hide their money off-shore, (oh, the horror!)
~ comment by Mary Aseltyne

So there you have it, this Republican only represents the rich . Its there in his own words. The 99% should vote against him, lets see if he can get elected with just 1% of the vote

I'll be glad when the 1% stop whining about being picked on. They all sound like Cartman on South Park.

Because corporations are people, and money is speech, and people are fodder. Is this the GOP Stepford Party or is there something in the water? Lockstep toward the edge of the cliff..you first Mr. Hovde
~ comment by HolyCowBatman

Sorry but this guy is Damien from that Omen movie...
~ comment by DonMadrid1500

Perhaps this spectacular idiot might to remembering the phrase " government by the people for the people" . He seems to think that "government by business for business at the expense of the people" is a smart thing but anyone with even a half a brain cell, an ounce of morality and a mere soupçon of history knows where that path takes us..
These lunatics are dangerous not only to the country and democracy but to the world.

These GOPers follow Christianity w/o Jesus
