Alex Jones Day Two - Paranoia in the Big City

Previous Post:
Alex Jones Goes Bonkers on Piers Morgan

I give myself about an ‘A,’. . . The consensus is in. I would say 95% of people thought I just told it like it was, slammed him in the face….I’m proud of the job I did.
. . . When I was at CNN a decade ago, it was glistening. (Now) it looks like Hitler’s bunker….torn-up carpet, feces all over the wall and on the floor in the bathroom. It’s rotting.
Folks, I’ve been in those exact rooms. It literally looked like a gas station bathroom in the worst part of town. It was rotting and those people were in hell. It’s a skeleton of what it was, it’s a globalist operation and they’re nothing.
~ Alex Jones on his Talk Radio Show Today, via Forbes

Piers Morgan in a telephone interview with Ashleigh Banfield on CNN
Well, honestly, I mean, (Alex Jones is) now trending worldwide on Twitter and has been for pretty much since the show went out and I can't think of a better advertisement for gun control than Alex Jones' interview last night.

It was startling. It was terrifying in parts. It was completely deluded. It was based on a premise of making Americans so fearful that they all rush out to buy even more guns.

It showed no compassion whatsoever to the victims of gun shootings and, you know, the kind of twisted way that he turned everything into this assault on the Second Amendment is exactly what the gun rights lobby people do.

And it's a lie. It cannot be allowed to continue. They have to be confronted and challenged, occasionally, as with last night, I think silence was the best weapon against him because he just dug himself an ever bigger hole.

And the general reaction, I think, has been one of real horror that somebody with such a voice, a platform as Alex Jones -- he has millions of Americans listen to his show every week and he spouts this kind of dangerous nonsense.

. . . I have absolute respect for any American who wants to exercise their rights under the Second Amendment to have a firearm at home, a pistol or a gun, a handgun, to protect themselves and their families.

There are numerous incidents you can point to where that has potentially has saved a life and I respect. I believe that is what the Founding Fathers probably intended with the wording of the Second Amendment.

However, I see no reason and I come from a military family -- many of my relatives have served in the British army. They are as aghast as I am that, in America, I can go to Walmart, for example, and I'm not allowed to buy six packets of Sudafed or a Kinder egg or various types of French cheese because they're all considered too harmful to my health, potentially, but I can buy an AR-15 assault weapon.

I can get on the Internet, buy 6,000 rounds of ammunition. I can buy a magazine that can hold 100 bullets and I can then go to a church or a school or a movie theater or a shopping mall and I can kill as many Americans ... as I want to in the space of a few minutes. This madness has got to stop.

After appearing on CNN with Piers Morgan, Alex Jones made a video asking his fans to "watch his back" because he feared some kind of assasination by the NYPD.

I think we're being cased.
The way this'll work is, 'oh, see here they were protesting gun grabs and some crack dealers shot them,' These people clearly work for Bloomberg ... it was just super-creepy ... If something happens to us, we're killed by crackheads, it was the NYPD or the mafia they hired, period. ...This city runs white slaves, that's sex slaves, out of here all day, narcotics, you name it. This is mafia central.
I'm not afraid of you. I came here and I got in your redcoat usurper hatchet man's face and I told him to go to hell!
~ Alex Jones

He ended what he suspected might be his last ever recorded video with this possibly eternal line: "We've got Goodfellas climbing out our butts right now. Alex Jones signing off for infowars.com. I love you." Update 2: Alex Jones is still alive.
~ Village Voice

No one is taking away all the guns. But now I get it. Now I see what is happening. So this is what it is, their paranoid fear of a possible dystopic future prevents us from addressing our actual dystopic present. We can’t even begin to address 30,000 gun deaths that are actually in reality happening in this country every year because a few of us must remain vigilant against the rise of imaginary Hitler.
~ John Stewart on Comedy Central

Want to know who the media wants to make the face of the pro-gun argument in America? Look no further than conspiratorial radio host Alex Jones, best known for his 9/11 Truther theories and his love of Charlie Sheen's hernia. Jones is the man behind the petition to deport CNN host Piers Morgan for his views on gun control. Morgan invited Jones onto his show to debate the gun issue yesterday, and not surprisingly, Jones made a fool of himself, giving the left the perfect poster boy for their attempts to paint every logical conservative as an extremist nut job.

Previous Post: American Gun Nuts Shoot Out a Petition to Deport Piers Morgan of CNN

Alex Jones Profile on Southern Poverty Law Center
Five days a week, online and on more than 60 radio stations nationwide, “The Alex Jones Show,” along with a pair of websites he runs (Infowars.com and PrisonPlanet.com), serves as the tumultuous showcase for his overactive imagination — a worldview governed by logic-leaping deductions and heedless pronouncements. His website is chock full of apocalyptic headlines and ads for products like “recession-proof coins” and manuals on How to Survive Martial Law in America. On the air, he’s given to stream-of-consciousness rants.

Petition to Deport CNN's Piers Morgan For Demanding Stricter Gun Laws After the Sandy Hook shooting

The White House responds to all petitions that cross the [25,000-signature] threshold and we will respond to this one.
In the meantime, it is worth remembering that the freedom of expression is a bedrock principle in our democracy.
~ White House spokesman Jay Carney on Petition:

Transcript from Real Clear Politics

PIERS MORGAN: Why do you want to deport me?

ALEX JONES: We did it as a way to bring attention to the fact that we have all of these foreigners, and the Russian government, the official Chinese government -- Mao said political power goes out of the barrel of a gun, he killed about 80 million people because he's the only guy who had the guns -- so we did it to point out that this is globalism, and the mega banks that control the planet and brag they have taken over -- in Bloomberg, AP, Reuters, you name it -- brag that they're going to get our guns as well. They've taken everybody's guns, but the Swiss and the American people and when they get our guns, they can have their world tyranny while the government buys 1.6 billion bullets, armored vehicles, tanks, helicopters, predator drones, armed now in U.S. skies, being used to arrest people in North Dakota.

The Second Amendment isn't there for duck hunting. It's there to protect us from tyrannical government and street thugs. Take the woman in india, your piece earlier on CNN earlier, I was watching during Anderson Cooper's show, didn't tell you the women of India have signed giant petitions to get firearms because the police can't and won't protect them.

Te answer is -- wait a minute, I have FBI crime statistics that come out of a year late, 2011, 20-plus percent crime drop in the last nine years, real violent crime because more guns means less crime. Britain took the guns 15, 16 years ago. Tripling of your overall violent crime. True, we have a higher gun violence level, but overall, muggings, stabbing, deaths -- those men raped that woman to India to death with an iron rod 4 feet long. You can't ban the iron rods. The guns, the iron rods, Piers, didn't do it, the tyrants did it. Hitler took the guns Stalin took the guns, Mao took the guns, Fidel Castro took the guns, Hugo Chavez took the guns, and I'm here to tell you, 1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms! It doesn't matter how many lemmings you get out there in the street begging for them to have their guns taken. We will not relinquish them. Do you understand?

~~~~~~~~~~~~
. . . ALEX JONES: I already said earlier that England had lower gun crime rate because you took all the guns. But you have hoards of people burning down cities and beating old women's brains out out everyday. They arrest people in England if they defend themselves, that's on record. My God, you have a total police state. Everybody is fleeing the country because -- you've had to flee, bud. Yeah, you fled here. Why don't you go back and face the charges for the hacking scandal?
PIERS MORGAN: Answer this question. How many --
JONES: Why did you get fired from the Daily Mirror for putting out fake stories? You're a hatchet man of the New World Order. You're a hatchet man! And I'm going to say this here, you think you're a tough guy? Have me back with a boxing ring and I'll wear red, white, and blue, and you'll wear your Jolly Roger.
My god, is Alex Jones for real or did Yosemite Sam just appear as a guest on CNN?
~ comment by alicesp on CNN
That was outstanding. Frothing at the mouth even more than LaPierre, and a truly inspired homage to Dr. Strangelove.
~ Freezer001 on Huffington Post
I fear for him, may get himself Vince Fostered or Breitbarted.
~ FlyingEagle on Free Republic
It was refreshing hearing some FACTS about firearms spoken by a guy who gives it back to the libtards in a way they are absolutely NOT used to.
~ 43 North on Free Republic
OMG, I was laughing so much, I had to rewatch it. No discourse, no honesty, no facts, just vitriol and anger and that's it. What a great representative for the gun lobby. LOL
~ ScoutItOut on Huffington Post
This is exactly who we need campaigning for gun rights - an angry manchild who is obviously delusional and probably suffering from paranoid schizophrenia.
~ Peter K. on Buzzfeed
This is the worst part, he has the facts and the stats in his head but he can't get them across in a coherent way. He's become a liability to not only conspiracy theorists but even constitutionalists. He makes pro-gun people look deranged.
~ erowidtranc on Reddit
Alex isn't well composed, he isn't a well spoken debater, and I don't even care if he's a shill, he's exactly what we need right now, a loud, rude, obnoxious gorilla with his middle finger in the air on CNN. Either way love him or hate him, he's drawing attention to areas of concern. He's discrediting our cause? Are you f***ing kidding me? Our cause is the g****amn truth, we don't have to worry about it being discredited. It will shine through the darkness as it always does.
~ ACapitalizedCursiveL on Reddit
The fact that Jones and people with this crazy frame of reference are allowed to own arsenals (Jones tells Piers he owns over 50), shows how big this problem is and how hard it is going to be to solve. We have let this craziness metastasize so much that if we tried to disarm the crazies, we would have 100s of Wacos across the country. So, we need to do what Piers did tonight and shine a light on the crazies - the more we show them to the larger population, the more their craziness will become apparent.
~ James Renruojos on Daily Kos
As a Canadian, that fellow represents what scares us the most about Americans. Taking every freedom and liberty and ramming it down your throat no matter how ridiculous it is. The amendments were written a LONG time ago. The world has changed, maybe they should be updated a little...
American Gun Nuts Shoot Out a Petition to Deport Piers Morgan of CNN
White House Petition to Deport Piers Morgan
From Sky News
Thousands of Americans have signed a petition calling for British CNN host Piers Morgan to be deported over his criticism of the country's gun laws.
Just two days after it was posted on the White House website, it had already garnered more than 30,000 signatures by late on Sunday, surpassing the 25,000 required to get a response from the White House.
. . . a Texas journalist posted a petition on the White House website alleging Morgan "is engaged in a hostile attack against the US Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment".
"We demand that Mr Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens," the petition says.
Piers Morgan on CNN, Transcript December 18, 2012
PIERS MORGAN: The AR-15, as we've now seen from the last three mass shootings in America, Aurora, the shopping mall in Oregon, and now at Sandy Hook school, is the preferred choice of weapon for disturbed young men who want to commit mass atrocity, can fire hundreds of bullets at rapid speed, if you have the right magazines.
The president of the United States has indicated he wants to ban assault weapons like this. What is your view?
LARRY PRATT, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, GUN OWNERS OF AMERICA: I think we need to ban gun control laws that keep people from being able to protect themselves. The problem is not going to go away if we ban this or that gun. We've tried that. That doesn't work. Doesn't even work in England. You have mass murders there all over Europe. There have been mass murderers.
MORGAN: You're talking complete and utter -- you are talking complete and utter nonsense.
PRATT: The solution is for people to be able to defend themselves at the point of the crime and not wait for 20 minutes for the police come after everybody is dead.
MORGAN: What you've just said, Mr. Pratt, was an absolute lie. The gun murder rate in countries like Britain or Germany or Australia, we've all suffered massacres many years ago, similar nature, have -- there are 35 people killed a year. Your country has 12,000.
PRATT: Your murder rate has -- your murder rate is lower than ours, that is true. Your violent --
MORGAN: Lower? It's 75 against 12,000 in Australia.
PRATT: Your violent crime rate --
MORGAN: They had a massacre. And they got rid of the assault weapons.
PRATT: Your violent crime rate is higher than ours as is the violent crime rate in Australia. America is not the Wild West that you are depicting. We only have the problems in our cities, and unhappily, in our schools where people like you have been able to get laws put on the books that keep people from being able to defend themselves.
I honestly don't understand why you would rather have people be victims of a crime than be able to defend themselves. It's incomprehensible.
MORGAN: You're an unbelievably stupid man, aren't you?
Previous Post:
Snark Amendment: Now is the Time for Gun Control
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We are living in an era of slaughter. I admit to having thrown up my own hands against the NRA, arguing that they have too much power and it wasn't worth the risk to take them on. I'm done with that. We're living in a f***ing abbatoir, now drenched in the blood of little children. We have to do something.
~ Michael Tomasky on Daily Beast

The people who fight and lobby and legislate to make guns regularly available are complicit in the murder of those children. They have made a clear moral choice: that the comfort and emotional reassurance they take from the possession of guns, placed in the balance even against the routine murder of innocent children, is of supreme value. Whatever satisfaction gun owners take from their guns—we know for certain that there is no prudential value in them—is more important than children’s lives. Give them credit: life is making moral choices, and that’s a moral choice, clearly made.
All of that is a truth, plain and simple, and recognized throughout the world. At some point, this truth may become so bloody obvious that we will know it, too. Meanwhile, congratulate yourself on living in the child-gun-massacre capital of the known universe.
~ Adam Gopnik on The New Yorker

America has a gun problem . It's time for action. I, and my siblings,(born in the mid-sixties) grew up without bicycle helmets, and graduated sizes of car seats. Our parents used mercury thermometers, to check for fever, and we played on asphalt playgrounds. Everyone I know survived. Yet, there were accidents; So our government legislated safety guidelines. Yes, it makes sense. Cribs that collapse, cars with faulty breaks, contaminated food get recalled. Why? Because they're dangerous. However, the most dangerous, man-made instrument, whose sole purpose is to destroy; is ever evasive of thoughtful, logical legislation. There is an unbelievable disconnect here. How many more innocent Americans, need to die unnecessarily, by gunfire, before something is done? The Bradys' worked very hard to make intelligent change. We need to reinstate the assault weapon ban, close the gun show loop-holes, and hold gun manufacturers accountable. If this government can legislate benign objects; Why can't it legislate deadly weapons?
~ comment by SeaSprite23 on The New Yorker

Do We Have the Courage to Stop This?
The fundamental reason kids are dying in massacres like this one is not that we have lunatics or criminals — all countries have them — but that we suffer from a political failure to regulate guns.
. . . We even regulate toy guns, by requiring orange tips — but lawmakers don’t have the gumption to stand up to National Rifle Association extremists and regulate real guns as carefully as we do toys. What do we make of the contrast between heroic teachers who stand up to a gunman and craven, feckless politicians who won’t stand up to the N.R.A.?
As one of my Facebook followers wrote after I posted about the shooting, “It is more difficult to adopt a pet than it is to buy a gun.”
~ Nicholas D. Kristoff

We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from our schools. Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage?
~ Mike Huckabee on Fox News

Walk-Back:
Yesterday, I was on Neil Cavuto. He asked me, you know, where was God? I said, you know, we've systematically removed him from our culture, from our schools. Well, I've been barraged by people who have said that I said, well, if we just have prayer in schools, this wouldn't happen. That's not my point.
~ Mike Huckabee Walking Back his Previous Statement on Fox and Friends Saturday

~~~~~~~
It’s a fact that there is only one policy that has been shown to reduce the incidence of multiple shootings. There’s always going to be crazy people in a country of 300 million people. Only one policy has reduced these mass shootings and the number of casualties, and that is concealed carry permits. If you want to reduce the number of dead, and the number of times this is going to happen in an area, you sort of sense this, because although it’s been a long time since a school shooting, post offices, places that are gun free zones.
~ Ann Coulter on Sean Hannity
The right wing fairy tale that more concealed carry permits will reduce mass shootings is based on several flawed assumptions. The right assumed that the person who is carrying is at the ready. They assume that the individual with the gun won’t be targeted first. They also assume that the rampage shooter will have no element of surprise. They assume that those who find themselves in a mass shooting situation will be in a position to retaliate.
The idea that adding more guns to a school shooting would somehow reduce the violence defies common sense, but it is also symptomatic of where the discussion has quickly gone after the Newtown shooting.
CNN Piers Morgan Transcript Dec. 14, 2012
JOHN R. LOTT, JR, AUTHOR, "MORE GUNS, LESS CRIME": I'm telling you, people can go and look up the statistics themselves. What you find is that for decades the murder rate was falling in Australia. It basically stopped falling. If you just compare the average over two decades where it's falling to what it was afterwards, it makes it look like the average before is higher than average afterwards. But if you look on a year by year basis, there wasn't that fall.
MORGAN: Why does Adam Lanza's mother, who sadly as killed by him today -- why did she need to have these three weapons?
LOTT: Can I follow-through on the Australia thing?
MORGAN: No, I want you to answer this. Why does she need to have these three weapons, legally purchased, including this semiautomatic Bushmaster. Why would a woman teacher at a kindergarten need these weapons in her home? Allowing, therefore, a clearly deranged son to take them and commit this atrocity?
LOTT: Whatever that gun looks like, it's a semiautomatic rifle. Any hunting rifle, just about, is a semiautomatic rifle. Just because it looks different on the outside doesn't mean it functions differently.
MORGAN: He fired over 100 rounds in several minutes with this apparently harmless rifle.
LOTT: Nobody said guns were harmless. Guns make it easy.
MORGAN: You just tried to make out, it's just an average old gun. He fired over 100 rounds and he killed 20 children. Twenty Children between five and 10. At what point do you gun lobby guys say, we get it? It's time for change?
LOTT: Right, it is time.
MORGAN: Time to do what?
LOTT: To get rid of some of these gun laws that cause --
MORGAN: To get rid of the gun laws?
LOTT: Look at what has happened, all these attacks this year have occurred where guns are banned. Look at the Aurora movie theater shooting.
MORGAN: What the hell has that got to do with it? Seriously? What has that got to do with it?
Norquist is an Irrelevant Defunct Fossil ~ Updated
Photobucket
While the anti-tax pledge's ship sinks, Norquist is standing on the deck, arguing with the passengers to stay aboard till they drown.
~ Andrew Riggio on Yahoo News
Who's afraid of Grover Norquist?
Fewer and fewer Republicans, thankfully.
~ John Avlon on CNN
. . . it’s safe to say that the paradigm has shifted in ways that simply didn’t hold true prior to the Great Recession. Put another way, the gargantuan nature of our problems will force lawmakers to consider policies which they never would have embraced in the good years. Tax hikes are one of these.
~ Henrik Temp on American Enterprise Institute
Former Senator Alan Simpson on Andrea Mitchell
Wed. Nov. 28th
Video Here
. . . you know, here’s a good guy with a very bad idea and he was gathering up those signatures back in the ’80s and the early ’90s when inflation was zip, when unemployment was zip, and anybody who would sign anything before they come to Congress and hear the debate and participate in it hopefully and get in to the floor, management and the amending process and the conference committee, those people I mean why would you do that? It’s like selling your soul!
Now Grover, I said, would be irrelevant in two years, and I say that– he’s got about another year and a half to go– he will be irrelevant. This guy is a zealot. A zealot is one who, having forgotten his purpose, redoubles his efforts, and he sees the crumbling of the great house of cards.
It’s like Jarvis out in California back in the late ’70s. He’s left schools destitute, he’s left institutions destitute. You can’t come in and play this kind of a game when everything has changed in America, and this time everything has changed because it’s all coming to pass on December 31st, and Grover-babe is losing a person a day and he knows it. So what does he use to cover that? Cutesies. Little smart Alecs. I know that. I don’t know who else does that. I have done that.
He is becoming irrelevant. And you can see it in his eyes. He knows the game is up. Because good people of good faith have decided that instead of being Republicans, or Democrats, they’re Americans. And instead of being beholden to Grover Norquist and the AARP, they’re beholden to the United States of America. Those guys are going to take their lumps.
The Reign of Norquist Ends With a Whimper
In the same way that McCarthyism now largely overshadows the early days of the Eisenhower administration, the W. Bush and Obama years will be seen as the stage on which Grover Norquist's domination of domestic policy took place. His anti-tax pledge and the resulting government paralysis utterly defined the political climate of the period.
But with the sudden erosion of Republican support for his pledge -- Saxby Chambliss and the "gang of eight" are peeling away from the Norquist like the palace guards after the Wicked Witch finally melts -- it looks like the second Obama term may witness the decline and fall of Norquist. This is a consummation devoutly to be wished for Democrats and Republicans.
McCarthy was of course a public figure, while Norquist has been largely a stealth tyrant, in the glorious tradition of figures like Cardinal Richelieu or Rasputin.
~ Daryl Rowland on Huffington Post
It was clear that refusing the vow or, worse, going back on it would bring severe repercussions. To many Democrats, that made Norquist a devil figure. Actually, he was only channeling, very effectively, America’s Tea Party-like passions.
Now, though, America is hurtling toward the fiscal cliff, and there’s growing recognition that, without compromise on both sides, the country will plunge into the economic abyss.
~ New York Daily News
All of this technical discussion about a chimera created by a generally moronic lobbyist who is known to have been involved in the Abramoff scandal and somehow managed to avoid taking his own personal trip to prison along with Abramoff.
Can America be serious for even a brief moment, especially when we need to take immediate action to establish a sound budget and start cutting into our national debt?
~ comment by Roncouples on Atlantic
From Piers Morgan on CNN November 26, 2012
MORGAN: So you're Captain Bligh, on the bounty, the mutiny has begun. How are you going to avoid being chopped out the boat?
NORQUIST: Well, of course, it's a little funny to watch a senator or a congressman who got himself elected by promising the citizen of his state that he would go to Washington to reform government, not raises taxes to pay for our problems. Deciding that when they haven't done that and the going gets rough that they have an argument with me? I'm sorry but, you know, the congressman and senators who you're mentioning are the same people who two years ago were being quoted as starting a revolt against Boehner when he was demanding the Boehner rules, spending restraint when the president wanted his debt ceiling increase.
So the same cast of characters are turning in the homework for the second time two years later, there's not some snowball rolling. The good news is that the people who made a commitment to the American voters, to their voters, to their constituents are keeping it, and the focus is where it should be, on the fact that for four years President Obama has not reined in spending. Done nothing useful on entitlement reform. And all he's done so far in these negotiations is demand $1.6 trillion of tax increase so he can spend more money, not reining in spending. We need to have some focus on spending problems because that's the problem we have.
. . . (snip)
MORGAN: Yes, but Grover, Grover, only -- Grover, only you in America believes there has to be this -- what I believe to be really farcical, now absolute, pledge-for-life about these kind of things. Surely the nature of the modern world is very fast-moving, it's changing a lot. America clearly has huge economic problems heading for another fiscal cliff.
Everyone laughing at you from afar. The American public sick and tired of all the games going on. And there you, Grover Norquist, a very bright guy, still resolutely saying a pledge is a pledge is a pledge, it cannot be broken, when many of your own party now are saying, you know what, it doesn't make sense to just have this irresolute position anymore.
NORQUIST: Two things. The pledge is not for life, but everybody who signed the pledge including Peter King who tried to weasel out of it, shame on him as the "New York Sun" said today. I hope his wife understands the commitments last a little longer than two years or something. The commitment from the pledge --
MORGAN: Whoa, whoa. Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on. That was a bit below the belt, Grover.
NORQUIST: Hey, if you think a commitment only is not for as long as you make it for, the commitment for the pledge, as Peter King well knows when he signed it, is that as long as you're in Congress you will rein in spending and reform government, not raise taxes. It's not for 500 years or two generations. It's only as long as you're in the House or the Senate. If he stayed too long, that's his problem. But you don't tell the bank, oh, the mortgage wasn't that a long time ago? If you make a commitment, you keep it.
MORGAN: Right. But this pledge was first signed in 1986.
NORQUIST: By some people. Of course, every two years people often re-sign it. They make statements on it. Mr. Chambliss, who's one of the people you're saying was having doubts, just two years ago made a public letter saying he would never support a deal that had any tax increases, only revenues stemming from economic growth, not tax increases. That was two years ago, not 20 years ago, and it was a public statement that he made --
(CROSSTALK)
NORQUIST: To the people of his state.
~~~~~~~~

Interview on Fox with Neil Cavuto (my Transcript)

Neil Cavuto: Fairly or not, Grover, you've been seen as this "Wizard of Oz" character who has been able to keep Republicans in lock-step with your thinking, and with more bolting, especially with prominent members bolting, it says something about what is in peril for you.
. . . I don't want to liken you to Tony Soprano, but are you saying you're going to remember these guys who are turning on you?

Grover Norquist: Okay, nobody's turning on me. I understand why Harry Reid is trying to personalize it as "Grover" but what Harry Reid doesn't want to say is that the American People don't want their taxes raised. They've elected a Republican Congress opposed to raising taxes, and I, Harry Reid, am at odds with the American people.
Neil Cavuto: They are going to raise taxes, Grover. They are - they're looking like they are. So -- is that a repudiation of you? Or recognition of the election? Or what?

Grover Norquist: Okay, first of all, the promise on the pledge is to the American People. What I have accomplished with Americans for Tax Reform is to make it easy through the pledge for elected officials, candidates and incumbents, to credibly commit that they won't raise taxes

Corker was elected to the Senate because he took the pledge. People had thought he was too moderate, maybe he wouldn't make it, but he made that written commitment to the people of Tennessee. He would not be a Senator today if he hadn't made that commitment. If he breaks it, he's going to have to have a conversation with the people from Tennessee about his . . . keeping his word. And the same thing about other people who were elected because they made that written commitment to the people of their state.

Neil Cavuto: That sounds like a threat.

Norquist: No -- look, I vote in Washington D.C. The people that Corker promised or (Saxby) Chambliss (R-GA) promised or (Lindsey) Graham (R-SC) promised are in their state. They haven't promised me anything. They promised the voters of their state that they would go to Washington and reform government, not raise taxes to pay for Obama's bigger government. They need to focus on reforming government, not raising taxes to pay for bigger government each year. And it's a lot of work - it's not easy! But throwing up your hands and saying 'Maybe I'll raise taxes' instead of governing is not the way to go.

Ann Coulter Defends "Retard" Slur

CoulterHate

Ann Coulter's Tweet about the 3rd Presidential Debate, October 22, 2012

And . . .

Typical Twitter Response:

And from Special Olympics Participant Tom Shriver:
Dear Ann Coulter,

Come on Ms. Coulter, you aren’t dumb and you aren’t shallow. So why are you continually using a word like the R-word as an insult?

I’m a 30 year old man with Down syndrome who has struggled with the public’s perception that an intellectual disability means that I am dumb and shallow. I am not either of those things, but I do process information more slowly than the rest of you. In fact it has taken me all day to figure out how to respond to your use of the R-word last night.

I thought first of asking whether you meant to describe the President as someone who was bullied as a child by people like you, but rose above it to find a way to succeed in life as many of my fellow Special Olympians have.

Then I wondered if you meant to describe him as someone who has to struggle to be thoughtful about everything he says, as everyone else races from one snarkey sound bite to the next.

Finally, I wondered if you meant to degrade him as someone who is likely to receive bad health care, live in low grade housing with very little income and still manages to see life as a wonderful gift.

Because, Ms. Coulter, that is who we are – and much, much more.

After I saw your tweet, I realized you just wanted to belittle the President by linking him to people like me. You assumed that people would understand and accept that being linked to someone like me is an insult and you assumed you could get away with it and still appear on TV.

I have to wonder if you considered other hateful words but recoiled from the backlash.

Well, Ms. Coulter, you, and society, need to learn that being compared to people like me should be considered a badge of honor.

No one overcomes more than we do and still loves life so much.

Come join us someday at Special Olympics. See if you can walk away with your heart unchanged.

A friend you haven’t made yet,
John Franklin Stephens
Global Messenger
Special Olympics Virginia

And now, Ann Coulter's Defense, via Alan Colmes Radio Show:
Colmes: What was the deal with that tweet people are talking about?

Coulter: (Laughing)

Colmes: In this tweet which you sent out during the debate on Monday--

Coulter: No, immediately afterwards--

Colmes: (Reads tweet)

Coulter: Yes.

Colmes: You regret that?

Coulter: (Laughs) Do you regret asking me if I regret that? No, of course I don't. Um, my one regret is that I'm not at this moment promoting my book "Guilty," subtitle, "Liberal Victims and their Attack on America." Liberal victims are the biggest bullies of all.

Look, no one would refer to a Down's Syndrome child as, someone with an actual mental handicap, by saying ‘retard.’ Where do you think the words ‘imbecile,’ ‘idiot,’ ‘moron,’ ‘cretin’ come from? These were all technical terms at one time. ‘Retard’ had been used colloquially to just mean ‘loser’ for 30 years. But no, no — these aggressive victims have to come out and tell you what words to use.

Colmes: You may think that it's liberal totalitarianism that is dictating that you can't say that word, but John Franklin Stephens, who is a member of the Special Olympics, he's an athlete, he's an adult who has Down's Syndrome, says he has invited you to join him to see the Special Olympics. He says you're a friend he hasn't made yet, but he hopes he can, and he says that you should understand that life is a wonderful gift and that--

Coulter: I do not need to be told this! I was not making a joke about Special Olympics, the way our President did, by the way. It would be one thing if I said in my tweet a joke about Special Olympics, a joke about Down's Syndrome. No one would call someone with Down Syndrome 'retard'!

Colmes: Well, this person--

Coulter: I call you retard!

Colmes: Well, the word 'retard' is offensive and this guy along--

Coulter: No-No! No, no, no, no...

Colmes: And in fact the Special--

Coulter: You just can't go around announcing that this and that word is offensive. I'm sick of this.

Colmes: I'm, I'm... telling you that people are offended by it.

Coulter: Because liberal victims are bullies, and I--

Colmes: It's not just liberals--

Coulter: You don't tell people what words they can use. I'm not fond of vulgarities, but this attack of the victims. Biggest bullies of all. There's nothing offensive about the word 'retard' applied to the President. It has nothing to do with a mental handicap. It was calling the President a loser.

Colmes: This is not a left-right issue.

Coulter: Yes it is.

Colmes: This is not a liberal versus conservative issue. A rep for the Special Olympics told TMZ 'We're disappointed in your regular use of the word despite our constituents regular appeals to her, meaning you, for compassion.

Coulter: And are they proposing I use 'cretin' instead?

Colmes: They aren't proposing what you should use. They say they will give an open invitation, meaning you, to be invited to an educational meeting . . .

Coulter: How about, as long as they are going to be the word police, I want to know if I can use 'moron,' 'idiot,' 'cretin,' and 'imbecile.' Because it really doesn't make much sense unless they are thoroughly authoritarian and arbitrary. And which words are in and which words are out?

Colmes: You know that some words have meanings and some of them sting. Like certain words for African-Americans.

Coulter: You're not supposed to 'sting' the President. (laughs)

Colmes: You wrote a book on race. You know that thee are certain words that are not to be used for African-Americans...

Coulter: Oooohhhh! This! Now we're gettin' to my book!

Colmes: Yeah.

Coulter: This is what drives me crazy, when all . . .

Colmes: You wouldn't use the 'N-word' to refer to African-Americans?

Coulter: Ahhhh! That's just what I was going to say but you beat me to the punch! Every time--

Colmes: Would you? Would you?

Coulter: I'm answering now. Don't keep saying would you, would you. Every time the Liberals start being the word police, they always say 'you wouldn't use the n-word, would you?' No, the N-word is in its own category. I have a whole chapter on it in my current book, 'Mugged: Liberal Demagoguery from the 70s to Obama."

No, you're not black. That's what I should have called my book "Guilty" - "You're. Not. Black." If you were not held in slavery, if you were not brought here as slaves, held as slaves for hundreds of years, discriminated against by democratic policies of Jim Crow - NO, you can't go around policing what people say.

Colmes: But . . . But . . .

Coulter: You're not Black. Feminists aren't black.

Colmes: But what about people with disabilities who don't like it when you use the 'R-word,' who say--

Coulter: NO!

Colmes: It’s okay for blacks [you claim] to say “You can’t use the N word,”How about people with disabilities who say, “You can’t use the R word?”

Coulter: I would not use any word that was unkind to describe someone who has an actual handicap, mental or physical. I would not do that.

Colmes: But that ‘s what they feel you did.

Coulter: Oh, screw them! That’s what they feel I do. I feel they’re being authoritarian bullying victims.”

She is the type of provocateur who pushes nouns against verbs to blow them up and bring attention to herself. She'll die alone, unloved, and unmourned and will wonder why.

"Authoritarian bullying victims," you can't make this stuff up.

Ann Coulter isn’t really that ignorant, she just thinks she’s protecting her unapologetic “brand.”
Coulter knows better . . . and is really only burnishing her “edgy” reputation at this point. As a PR move, this looks like a miscalculation, but it is her career, and she’s the one who is going to miss it the most. Alan is absolutely right that this is not a right/left issue, and if it ever was, it ceased being one when former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin rose to prominence, and raised awareness among conservatives about special needs children, and among liberals about ableism. Coulter is miscalculating if she thinks conservatives will simply close their ears to this.
As such, it’s hard to care whether Coulter ever apologizes . . .

You have to respect her troll abilities... she saw Michelle Malkin pulling ahead, and she upped her game.

...Ann Coulter has gone for the Vain Glorious Burnout and current Republican vogue of Doubling Down in Stupidity.
It's too spectacularly and outrageously good to be believed. Good work in the fine art of alienating the Voting Public.

Coulter is one of those special empathy-devoid, intentionally obnoxious folks who wake up every morning and ask themselves a simple question:
"What can I do to denigrate, insult, and piss off an entire demographic sector of society today.

Interview with Piers Morgan on CNN, Friday, Oct. 26, 2012
MORGAN: Why call the president of the United States a retard?
COULTER: Because it's a synonym for loser. We were spending 10 seconds on this or it's going to be another two years before I come on.
MORGAN: Wow, you're threatening me.
COULTER: I'm angry at the word police. I need an encyclopedia Britannica to see which words are appropriate and which aren't.
MORGAN: No, you don't.
COULTER: OK, explain to me why retard is inappropriate.
MORGAN: Because I heard this morning say, what if I said imbecile, idiot, cretin or moron.
COULTER: That was two nights ago.
MORGAN: Right. Whenever.
Any of those words, as you know, has not become in the last decade or so a word that is synonymously offensive to people with disability, and is used in an offensive way about them by people. That is a difference.
COULTER: Do you call people with mental disabilities retards, because I don't. I think that's a nasty thing to do.
MORGAN: A lot of people do, to be offensive. Yes.
COULTER: No, they don't.
MORGAN: They do and you know that.
COULTER: They absolutely do not. And you know they do not.
MORGAN: Of course, you do.
COULTER: No one would call a Down syndrome child a retard. It is synonymous with loser. You know perfectly well --
MORGAN: That's complete nonsense.
Wait a minute. Wait a minute. That's complete nonsense. That's the whole point. The whole point, if you talked to people who worked with Down syndrome children or whatever, they would all tell you --
COULTER: You keep saying this is offensive and you're just wasting time because we only have 10 more seconds on this and we're getting to the next topic.
MORGAN: Says who?
COULTER: OK, it's offensive and you're going to come up with 20 different ways to tell me it's offensive. It's offensive according to whom? Moron, idiot, cretin, imbecile. These were exactly like retard, once technical term to describe people with mental disabilities. Changing the word doesn't change the condition.
I was not referring to someone with Down syndrome. I was referring to the president of the United States.
MORGAN: I know that.
(break)
MORGAN: You called me in the break a sexist misogynist pig.
COULTER: Yes.
MORGAN: Can you explain why? What have I said that's been remotely sexist?
COULTER: Calm down. Oh, it is the conservative --
MORGAN: You were hyperventilating.
COULTER: I'm not hyperventilating. I'm disagreeing with you, which apparently is insulting your teeny tiny male ego. It is the most insulting, condescending, sexist thing to say to a female, generally conservative, who disagrees with you, no, it's my obligation to back down and accept your point. And if I don't, you're not being calm.
MORGAN: I have never heard you back down or apologize for anything. I think when you call the president of the United States a retard --
COULTER: We have moved on from that.
MORGAN: Final point on it. A little part in your brain cell should go off and say you know what, Ann, I just overstepped the mark.
COULTER: OK. Explain to me what -- why that is different, again, from cretin, moron, idiot.
MORGAN: For the same reason that the "N" word has become completely unacceptable, because of the offense it causes to the black community.

(CROSS TALK)
MORGAN: Let me finish my sentence.
COULTER: You can't just say everything is the "N" word.
MORGAN: Let me finish my sentence.
COULTER: Oh, calm down. Calm down.
MORGAN: I would argue the word retard has become equally -- has become equally unacceptable to people with disabilities in America, because it is the one word of all those words -- and I got them all out from the dictionary. It's the one word that has been used for the last decade or so -- yes, it has. You're so wrong.
COULTER: No, it isn't. You can't just go around -- it isn't a better argument to say oh, and broad, that's like using the "N" word, and the illegal immigrant, that's like using the "N" word. And gay, that's like using the "N" word. All you're doing is making a different argument for the same argument.
MORGAN: I have used the argument once.
COULTER: We will tell you which words you can and which words you can't use. Making a joke about Special Olympics is making a joke about something that actually exists. That is what President Obama did. I would not have done that. I would not make a joke about a Down Syndrome child.
Retard is the same as idiot, cretin, moron. It means loser. That's what it's meant for 30 years. And the word police come in five minutes ago and say no, we're going to be bossy and tell you what to do. They're the biggest bullies of all, these self-appointed victims.
MORGAN: My God. You are calling other people bossy. I've heard it all. Let's turn back to "Mugged," your book.
COULTER: Excellent.

Begging Forgiveness:

It is time to say, okay, Todd, you apologized. You misspoke. And let’s get on with life. Let’s run the campaign. The adheres form a circular firing squad and go after each other. Not smart.
~ Reverend Pat Robertson

Steve King (R-Iowa) Defends Akin
King says he didn't want to give his thoughts on Akin's comment because he wasn't sure of the context of the remark. He did, however, say he supports Akin's character.
"Todd Akin is a strong Christian man, with a wonderful family," King said.

King says, instead of focusing on one phrase, and turning it into a national issue, voters should focus on the big picture.
"I think this election should be about, how did Todd Akin vote and what did he vote for and what did he stand for and in this case, I'm seeing the same thing, petty personal attacks substituting for strong policy," he said.
King supports the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act." It would ban Federal funding of abortions except in cases of forcible rape. Right now, Medicaid also covers abortions for victims of statutory rape or incest - for example, a 12 year old who gets pregnant. Congressman King says he's not aware of any young victims like that.

"Well I just haven't heard of that being a circumstance that's been brought to me in any personal way, and I'd be open to discussion about that subject matter," he said.

If Todd wants to stay in the race, I will continue to support him. I think his comments were indefensible. I think they were inappropriate. He’s acknowledged as such. But you know, when others have made mistakes, you haven’t seen the entire Republican establishment abandon him. I think it’s somewhat suspect.
