Sarah P. is at the Values Voter Summit, the annual wingnut parade of ultra-conservative fools, and she made another gaffe, of course. Because that's what she does. This time she managed to get the address of the White House wrong while making a point.

From Right Wing Watch
After explaining that people who believe racism exists in America today are the real racists, Palin said that it is high time for someone to speak the truth in politics…and that someone is her.
Palin lamented that “truth is an endangered species” at the famous address of “1400 Pennsylvania Avenue.”

No, the White House sits at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. I wonder who gave Sarah that misinformation to toss into her word salad? Most likely her husband Todd, who helps with all her inexplicable speeches. Could this be the start of the next Palin Brawl? Make some popcorn and stay tuned!

Here we are again. The wingnuts are outraged that President Obama saluted his guards with a paper coffee cup in his hand, as if that makes him less of a President, blah blah. They will still be fired up about this three years after he leaves office because they just have to pick at everything he does.

CBSNews
The latest round of outrage aimed at President Obama was caused by his morning caffeine fix.
When the president exited Marine One in New York City Tuesday en route to the United Nations, he had a coffee cup in his right hand as he lifted it to salute the two Marines who greeted him there.
This gesture, according to all those who took to Twitter using the hashtag, #LatteSalute was just downright disrespectful.
"Embarrassed by president's salute! So arrogant! #LatteSalute" wrote one user, @EmilyDickerson, on Twitter. "As an Iraq vet, seeing OB's #LatteSalutemakes me sick! He repeatedly show disrespect to my fellow service members," wrote @GeoKat.
Some commenters took a different tack, suggesting the president was being hypocritical for using a non-disposable cup on his way to address the issue of climate change at the United Nations.

Mike Brown Memorial in #Ferguson Burns Down

 photo cf75e933-7310-4371-9a37-646d31a0590a.jpg

One of the memorials for the slain Mike Brown burned in Ferguson, Missouri, yesterday. This spurred new unrest and questions about police involvement in the act. Or at least they could have tried harder to put out the fire! By nightfall, more protests began, leading to arrests of course.

One way healing could start would be to arrest the murderer of Mike Brown, police officer Darren Wilson. But so far authorities have shown no sign of arresting their colleague, who is still walking free, although apparently in hiding.

From St. Louis Today
For weeks after the shooting of Brown by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson, burning candles have been part of the memorials near the shooting site on Canfield Drive, but it was unclear if the fire at the roadside memorial was intentionally set or an accident. One photo showed an empty, overturned votive candle next to the burn site.
In a press release, Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson said the cause of the fire is unknown and authorities are investigating.
Residents of the area gathered at the scene Tuesday morning. Many were upset, claiming the fire was intentionally set by someone in the pre-dawn hours Tuesday. One witness said the fire started sometime after 5 a.m., when he drove by and saw no problem, and 6 a.m., when he saw the memorial ablaze. Another said it started between 6:30 and 7 a.m.
. . . Some began rebuilding the memorial Tuesday morning with a blanket and a new collection of stuffed animals, T-shirts, flowers and one unlit votive candle next to the soot-stained pole.

Video of the fire was taken by Piaget Crenshaw and posted on Facebook. She was also a witness to the killing of Mike Brown in the same place on the street. Unfortunately, her assumption that police burned the memorial down on purpose drew criticism and may have tainted her credibility as a witness. However, few have denied that the white policemen on the scene stood and watched the memorial burn.

White House Intruder was well-known to Secret Service

 photo white_house_plaque_n13329.gif

In a scary moment last Friday, a man armed with a knife rushed past Secret Service Agents on the White House lawn and got as far as the door. The first family had just left the building, thank God, but why wasn't this guy stopped? And media is now reporting that the guy is an Iraq veteran who also happened to have 800 rounds of ammo in his car, and he is a repeat-offender with weapons charges in Virginia who was well-known by the Secret Service.

This is baffling and disturbing. Why was this guy allowed anywhere near the White House grounds? At least he is in custody now, but it's worrying that others might try to breeze past security and blow up a bomb or something.

From New York Times
. . . Federal prosecutors said that officers found 800 rounds of ammunition, two hatchets and a machete in the car of Omar Jose Gonzalez, 42, of Texas, after they searched it on Friday. The prosecutors made their disclosure before a judge as they argued that Mr. Gonzalez should continue to be held in jail because he posed a danger to President Obama.

The judge agreed, and Mr. Gonzalez will remain in custody until a hearing next month.

In late August, Secret Service officers stopped Mr. Gonzalez in front of the fence on the White House’s South Lawn after they noticed a hatchet in his waistband, the officials said. The officers searched Mr. Gonzalez’s car, finding two dogs, camping equipment but no weapons. He was not arrested or questioned further.

In July, Mr. Gonzalez was arrested after he led Virginia troopers on a high-speed pursuit along Interstate 81 in Southwest Virginia in his Ford Bronco. After being stopped, police found the vehicle filled with weapons, according to a release by the state police.

Among the items found in Mr. Gonzalez’s vehicle in July was a mini-arsenal of 11 guns including two shotguns and four rifles, some equipped with scopes and bipods that a sniper would use and “a map of Washington, D.C., with writing and a line drawn to the White House,” law enforcement officials said. He also had four pistols, three of them loaded, and a revolver. The inventory of Mr. Gonzales’ vehicle listed by the Virginia State Police indicates the items were found stored in his vehicle’s “bulky floor.”

Palin Family Involved in White Trash Brawl

This "event" has come to be known in Twitter circles by the hashtag #PalinBrawl. See the above link for three different versions of how the smackdown evolved into a brawl.

Sarah Palin has decided to defend her wayward daughter Bristol, who was last seen kicking someone's ass on the fateful night, which also happened to be her father Todd's 50th birthday.

From Sarah's Facebook Page:

I love my Bristol! My straight-shooter is one of the strongest young women you'll ever meet. I have to say this as a proud mama: right up there with their work ethic and heart for those less fortunate, my kids' defense of family makes my heart soar! As you can imagine, they and my extended family have experienced so many things (liberal media-driven) that may have crushed others without a strong foundation of faith, and I'm thankful for our friends' prayer shield that surrounds them, allowing faith to remain their anchor. Thank you, prayer warriors! I love you!

- Sarah Palin

This comes after new eyewitnesses spoke about Bristol's role in the family brawl.

Via Talking Points Memo
"It was just so shocking," Roberta Thompson told TPM.
She mostly confirmed what her husband told multiple news outlets last week, saying that the two of them were right next to each other during the incident. But she provided her own take on how the events unfolded, including a portion that she said involved the eldest Palin daughter, Bristol Palin, and the owner of the house, Korey Klingenmeyer.

"What I saw was two girls run past and run towards Korey," Roberta Thompson said. "And then I just saw Bristol Palin start punching him in the face."
"It was quite, quite violent," she added.

She said Klingenmeyer was clearly upset about what was happening but maintained his composure.
"She kept punching him and then he just said, you know, 'You need to go,'" Thompson said.

Palin Family Involved in White-Trash Brawl ~ with Multiple Versions

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The hashtag #PalinBrawl came forth this weekend to describe a free-for-all with fisticuffs in Alaska during which police were called to deal with a rowdy hillbilly family - the Palins, of course. It's almost the perfect Palin story. And there are multiple versions, each Palin-licious!
Here's the original widely-published account:
Sarah Palin and her family were at the center of a lively party last weekend that erupted into a fight, with daughter Bristol Palin allegedly throwing a right hook, a man who says he was a guest at the party told ABC News.
“She was punching him [another man] in the face like six times; it was an assault if I’ve ever seen one,” Eric Thompson said, adding that he was among 70 guests at the birthday party in Anchorage Saturday.
“It wasn’t a light punch either. She was really hitting him. I’m surprised he just sat there and took it.”
Political blogger Amanda Coyne reported that Sarah Palin, along with husband Todd and kids Bristol, Willow and Track, arrived in a stretch Hummer and that the fighting started as the beer started flowing.
. . . “I heard Sarah Palin yell do you know who I am? All of us could not believe it. We thought we were watching an episode of Jerry Springer,” he added.
~ ABC News: Palin Family in House Party Brawl
The Palins were quick to supply their own version of events:
But according to the Palin family’s version of events, the instigator was actually the former boyfriend.
The initial tussle occurred, the source said, after the young man in question “tried to get in” to the Hummer limousine after he’d engaged in some unspecified “questionable behavior.”
Track Palin soon found himself struggling to fend off four men who had “piled on him,” according to the source.
Todd Palin then inserted himself into the brawl, which left the former “First Dude” of Alaska bleeding.
. . . According to the source, as her husband and son were trading blows with their adversaries, Palin was yelling (in reference to her son), “Don’t you know who he is? He’s a vet!”
. . . “From my understanding, she was in full ‘mama grizzly’ mode defending the kids,” the source said of Sarah Palin’s mindset.
~ RealClearPolitics Version from "Source" close to family
But my favorite version is from Mudflats Blog, which is correct about the Palins 99% of the time:
The Palins arrived at the party, but not just Sarah and Todd who were the only actual invitees from the clan – the whole fan-damnily and some other tagalong friends from Wasilla turned up in a stretch Hummer limo. Because, of course they did. The party was an adult and relaxed event, with most guests at least in their 30s. Reports have come in that Track got into a fight with an ex-boyfriend of Willow’s. But according to my source, the initial fight started when Track and his buddy were aggressively pursuing… how shall I put this… “romantic relations” with some female guests. They were allegedly explicit and crude in their depictions of what they’d like to do with and to the ladies, expressing a desire to “bend them over on the lawn,” according to my source. Apparently the lawn was large enough to include places one could be “bent over.”
. . . Track did not fare well in the ensuing confrontation with the spouse. The irate husband punched Track with the full force of his annoyance, and the young Palin ended up “spread eagle lying on the grass.” You could say someone did end up bent over on the lawn, but not in the way he first envisioned.
. . . Then Sarah shrieked, “Don’t you know who I am?” and other such things making clear the importance of the Palins, and the lack of importance of the non-Palins to whom she was speaking. She then apparently tried to fling herself on top of the giant dog pile into the middle of the melée.
Kansas GOP Won't Let Democrat Drop Out of Race
 photo imagesqtbnANd9GcTFQMt9GjyR8exj4yqLT.jpg
First Democrat Chad Taylor dropped out of the Kansas Senate Race so that Independent candidate Greg Orman will have a better chance to win. This was heralded as great news by the Democratic Party both locally and nationally, because if he wins, Orman will likely caucus with the Democrats. And let's face it: anyone calling themselves an "Independent" in Kansas might have a better chance to win than either a Democrat or a Republican.
From Kansas.com
In a stunning development, candidate Chad Taylor asked Wednesday that his name be removed from the ballot, paving the way for independent candidate Greg Orman to face U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts head-on in November.
“After much consideration and prolonged discussion with my supporters, my staff, and party leadership at every level, I have decided to end my campaign for the United States Senate,” Taylor said in an exclusive statement to The Eagle.
Chad Taylor supposedly asked the Kansas Attorney General's Office exactly what to do in order to legally withdraw from the Senate race. But once he withdrew, the GOP began to throw stumbling blocks that might thwart the plan out of fear that they will lose the Senate seat. And in order to help their own candidate, the NRSC announced that they were sending in a national advisor to help Senator Pat Roberts shore up a victory.
New York Times
. . . on Thursday, the Kansas secretary of state, Kris Kobach, a Republican, ruled that the Democratic nominee, Chad Taylor, could not withdraw his name from the ballot. Democratic officials said Mr. Taylor would file a legal challenge to the ruling.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee is sending Chris LaCivita, who has served as a political troubleshooter in past Republican campaigns, to counsel Mr. Roberts and help oversee his campaign. The committee will also seek to hire a local lawyer in any legal challenge against Mr. Taylor, who had tried to drop off the ballot on the last day candidates were allowed to do so.
This is nowhere near over, however. Taylor is vowing to fight Att. General Kobach to get his name off the ballot. Note: Chris Kobach is a well-known Tea Party Wingnut, completely partisan, and part of the committee to re-elect Pat Roberts.
Talking Points Memo
"I am planning to challenge the ruling of the Kansas Secretary of State," Taylor said in a statement emailed to reporters. He invoked Kobach's membership on incumbent Sen. Pat Roberts' honorary campaign committee and reiterated that he had consulted with a member of Kobach's office before filing his paperwork while announcing the challenge.
It was not immediately clear whether Taylor would file his challenge with a court or the Kansas Objections Board, which covers election issues. But Kobach said earlier Thursday that the board, which is under his authority, would not handle any appeal.
Verdict: McDonnells Found Guilty of Bribery and Conspiracy
A Virginia Jury came back with a verdict in the case of Ex-Gov Bob McDonnell and his wife Maureen. Guilty! And this works out well, since Bob McDonnell's defense was that he and Maureen were estranged anyway. Now they can have separate jails.
From Business Insider
McDonnell was widely considered a possible running mate for presidential candidate Mitt Romney in 2012. He was charged with doing favors for a wealthy vitamin executive in exchange for more than $165,000 in gifts and loans. The 14 counts stemmed from their acceptance of gifts, luxury vacations, and large loans from Jonnie Williams Sr., then-CEO of Star Scientific.
. . . Both Bob and Maureen bowed heads and wept as a chorus of “guiltys” kept coming from court clerk. Bob McDonnell was found guilty on counts 1-11. His wife was found guilty on counts 1-3, 5-8, 10, and 14.
From the Washington Post
RICHMOND — A federal jury on Thursday found former Virginia governor Robert F. McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, guilty of public corruption — sending an emphatic message that they believed the couple sold the office once occupied by Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson to a free-spending Richmond businessman for golf outings, lavish vacations and $120,000 in sweetheart loans.
. . . The verdict means that Robert McDonnell, the first governor in Virginia history to be charged with a crime, now holds an even more unwanted distinction — the first to be convicted of one.
He and his wife face decades in federal prison, although their actual sentences are likely to fall well short of that. U.S. District Judge James R. Spencer set a sentencing hearing for Jan. 6.
