#GOP Meltdown in Progress

Trump's constant weird statements, tweets, and gaffes are causing a crisis and meltdown inside the Republican Party that is almost unprecedented in American history.

His poll numbers are tanking, and staff members have been described as "suicidal" and looking to jump from the sinking ship. Republicans down-ticket are distancing themselves or endorsing Hillary Clinton - also an incredibly rare event in modern politics.

All this is a nice 55th Birthday for President Obama, not to mention the fact that Obama hit an all-time high on his approval ratings. And for all the Dems, the talk isn't just about taking the Senate back, but the House as well, not to mention the White House.

The story goes that Donald Trump's father was once jailed for participating in a Ku Klux Klan rally in New York city:

Fred Trump Sr. was among seven men arrested following a May 30, 1927 brawl between members of the KKK and the New York Police Department, according to The Washington Post, which unearthed news articles from the June 1, 1927 edition of The New York Times.
. . . The fights that broke out in Queens occurred after 1,000 KKK members dressed in white hooded robes marched through the Jamaica neighborhood. According to The Post, the address of the elder Trump from the arrest report matched the Jamaica address where he lived, according to a 1930 Census.

But The Donald has often denied the story, and his denial continued this week as famous Klansman David Duke endorsed Trump for President of the United States. When asked about it, Trump denied knowing who David Duke is, or the fact he has always been connected to the Klan.

CNN's Jake Tapper gave Trump several chances to distance himself from Duke:

I mean, I don't know -- did he endorse me or what's going on? Because I know nothing about David Duke. I know nothing about white supremacists. And so you're asking me a question that I'm supposed to be talking about people that I know nothing about.

Well, I have to look at the group. I don’t know what group you’re talking about. You wouldn’t want me to condemn a group that I know nothing about. I’d have to look. If you would send me a list of the groups, I will do research on them and certainly I would disavow if I thought there was something wrong.

Honestly, I don’t know David Duke. I don’t believe I’ve ever met him. I’m pretty sure I didn’t meet him. And I just don’t know anything about him.

The problem is that Trump clearly knew about David Duke, as does anyone who was alive and reading the news in the late 1980s when Duke served in the Louisiana House, then ran for several offices including Louisiana Governor and Senator, and even President of the U.S. It was a huge controversy at the time for anyone to be so openly proud of Klan affiliation, and David Duke has not changed over the years.

But Trump had mentioned Duke and KKK many years before:





















But according to Trump, when Tapper asked him the questions he was deaf due to a "bad earpiece" he was wearing during the CNN interview. Yes, being unable to hear Jake Tapper's question is now his excuse for losing three separate opportunities to deny any association with the KKK, and he said he had disavowed the whole thing in a press conference with Chris Christie the day before in Texas:

“I'm sitting in a house in Florida with a very bad earpiece that they gave me, and you could hardly hear what he was saying. But what I heard was various groups, and I don't mind disavowing anybody, and I disavowed David Duke and I disavowed him the day before at a major news conference, which is surprising because he was at the major news conference, CNN was at the major news conference, and they heard me very easily disavow David Duke," Trump said Monday on NBC’s “Today” show.
"Now, I go, and I sit down again, I have a lousy earpiece that is provided by them, and frankly, he talked about groups," Trump said, referring to the question from CNN's Jake Tapper. "He also talked about groups. And I have no problem with disavowing groups, but I'd at least like to know who they are. It would be very unfair to disavow a group, Matt, if the group shouldn't be disavowed. I have to know who the groups are. But I disavowed David Duke."
“Now, if you look on Facebook, right after that, I also disavowed David Duke. When we looked at it, and looked at the question, I disavowed David Duke," he said. "So I disavowed David Duke all weekend long, on Facebook, on Twitter and obviously, it’s never enough. Ridiculous.”





Of course many on the right took up for Trump because why shouldn't they have the right to praise the Klan and be endorsed in return? Right? Amirite? And besides that - blame Obama, blame Hillary - they are racists too!

Palin Endorses Donald Trump


Donald Trump decided just before primary season the best thing for his campaign was to drag in another nutcase, that is Sarah Palin, and let her give a bizarre, rambling endorsement in front of the whole world. "In God's name why?" you may be thinking, and so are most Republicans -- as well as anyone with a a working brain. Is he trying to lose? Is he completely insane? Perhaps.

But Trump loves all things loud and showy, and Palin did not disappointment. Her crazy shirt looked as if she had run into a chain-link fence and brought it with her. Her rolling syntax puts the emphasis on the wrong word every single time so that no one can understand a word she is saying. Her loud shrieks about ISIS and "bitter clingin'" to guns and ammo were priceless.

Only time will tell whether her endorsement will attract the Tea Party voters or drive everyone away screaming. But even I will admit it is a very entertaining reality show.

Mr. Trump, you’re right, look back there in the press box. Heads are spinning, media heads are spinning. This is going to be so much fun.

Are you ready to make America great again? We all have a part in this. We all have a responsibility. Looking around at all of you; you hard-working Iowa families, you farm families and teachers and teamsters and cops and cooks; you rockin’ rollers and holy rollers! All of you who work so hard, you full-time moms, you with the hands that rock the cradle. You all make the world go round and now our cause is one.

When asked why I would jump into a primary — kind of stirring it up a little bit maybe — and choose one over some friends who are running and I’ve endorsed a couple others in their races before they decided to run for president, I was told left and right, 'you are going to get so clobbered in the press. You are just going to get beat up and chewed up and spit out.'

You know, I’m thinking, 'and?’

You know, like you guys haven’t tried to do that every day since that night in ‘08, when I was on stage nominated for VP, and I got to say, 'yeah, I’ll go, send me, you betcha. I’ll serve.'

And, like you all, I’m still standing. So those of us who’ve kind of gone through the ringer as Mr. Trump has, makes me respect you even more. That you’re here, and you’re putting your efforts and you’re putting reputations, you’re putting relationships on the line to do the right thing for this country. Because you are ready to make America great again.

Well, I am here because like you, I know that it is now or never.





. . . Only one candidate’s record of success proves he is the master of the art of the deal. He is beholden to no one but we the people. How refreshing. He is perfectly positioned to let you make America great again. Are you ready for that, Iowa?

Well, he being the only one who’s been willing, he’s got the guts to wear the issues that need to be spoken about and debated on his sleeve. Where the rest of some of these establishment candidates, they just wanted to duck and hide. They didn’t want to talk about these issues until he brought them up. In fact, they’ve been wearing a, this, political correctness kind of like a suicide vest. And enough is enough.




. . . He’s a multi-billionaire. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But, it’s amazing, he is not elitist at all. Oh, I just hope you all get to know him more and more as a person and a family man. What he’s been able to accomplish, with his, um, it’s kind of this quiet generosity. Yeah, maybe his largess, kind of, I don’t know, some would say gets in the way of that quiet generosity, and, uh, well, his compassion, but if you know him as a person and you’ll get to know him more and more, you’ll have even more respect. Not just for his record of success, and the good intentions for America, but who he is as a person. He’s not an elitist. And yes, as a multi-billionaire, we still root him on because he roots us on.

. . . Now, finally friends, I want you to try to picture this. It's a nice thing to picture. Exactly one year from tomorrow: former President Barack Obama.

 He packs up the teleprompters and the selfie-sticks and the Greek columns and all that hopey, changey stuff and he heads on back to Chicago, where I’m sure he can find some community there to organize again.

 There, he can finally look up. President Obama will be able to look up, and there, over his head, he’ll be able to see that shining, towering, Trump Tower. Yes, Barack, he built that. And that says a lot.

Not the Brightest Light: Author Buzz Bissinger Backs Mitt Romney with Baffling Homage

. . . I have never seen a performance worse than Obama’s, distracted, his head dipped into the podium as if avoiding the smell of something rotten, acting above the very idea that a debate does provide a pivotal referendum on his first term as it has for all incumbent presidents, whipsawed by the legion of usual advisers telling him to play defense when his own intuition should have told him that he needed to go on the offensive as Romney slapped him around.

But there was more than the entitlement of entitlement. He struck me as burnt out, tired of selling his message although he has always been terrible at selling his message when it veers from idealism into the practical.

By instinct I still cling to my Democrat roots. But I admit that as I get older, on the cusp of 58, I am moving more to the center or even tweaking right, or at least not tied to any ideology. Those making more than $250,000 should pay more taxes, and that does include me. But I also am tired of Obama’s constant demonization, of those he spits out as “millionaires and billionaires,” as pariahs. . . .

. . . At the debate, Romney did not simply act like he wanted to be president. He wants to be president. He showed vigor, and enthusiasm, and excitement, a man who wants to lead. It may all be ephemeral, because most of politics is ephemeral, a cynical means to the end of getting elected. But he also revealed compassion that, during the entirety of this absurdly long march, had never been in evidence before. He recognized the needs of the poor. He recognized the need for regulation.

His tax plan was admittedly mystery meat. But the tag he has lied is unfair. To the contrary, he has recognized that his original proposal is more screwed up than the infield fly rule, not to mention mathematically impossible. So he is modifying it, coming up with a possible alternative in recent weeks that deductions should be capped at $17,000. . . .

. . . I believe that Romney’s move to the center is not yet another flip-flop sleight of hand, perhaps naively. I believe he will send to the political Guantanamo those dirty old white men of the party ready to bomb Iran (speaking of wars, are we out of Afghanistan yet, despite our so-called allies killing our soldiers? See Obama policy).

Four years ago, all Obama had to do was speak and everyone swooned. That was four years ago. It is now four years later. He is no longer the chosen one. He is just too cool for school in a country desperate for the infectiousness of rejuvenation.

Romney has it.
Our president no longer does.

Charlie Crist Endorses Obama, Heads Explode

As Republicans gather in Tampa to nominate Mitt Romney, Americans can expect to hear tales of how President Obama has failed to work with their party or turn the economy around.

But an element of their party has pitched so far to the extreme right on issues important to women, immigrants, seniors and students that they've proven incapable of governing for the people. Look no further than the inclusion of the Akin amendment in the Republican Party platform, which bans abortion, even for rape victims.

The truth is that the party has failed to demonstrate the kind of leadership or seriousness voters deserve.

Pundits looking to reduce something as big as a statewide election to a single photograph have blamed the result of my 2010 campaign for U.S. Senate on my greeting of President Obama. I didn't stand with our president because of what it could mean politically; I did it because uniting to recover from the worst financial crisis of our lifetimes was more important than party affiliation. I stood with our nation's leader because it was right for my state.

President Obama has a strong record of doing what is best for America and Florida, and he built it by spending more time worrying about what his decisions would mean for the people than for his political fortunes. That's what makes him the right leader for our times, and that's why I'm proud to stand with him today.

Charlie Crist is the PERFECT example of what I call a "political chameleon". He'll change his colors faster than a cuttlefish to do whatever he thinks is necessary to please whatever audience is right in front of him at the moment! RNC Chairman, Reince Priebus: And as far as Harry Reid is concerned, listen, I know you might want to go down that road, I’m not going to respond to a dirty liar who hasn’t filed a single page of tax returns himself. Complains about people with money but lives in the Ritz Carlton here down the street. So if that’s on the agenda, I’m not going to respond to that. This is just a made-up issue. And the fact that we’re going to spend any time talking about it is ridiculous.

We can put all of this to rest tomorrow. Mitt Romney can go to Kinko’s, he can photocopy his tax returns, they’re several hundred pages. He can hand them out to people like CNN, he can hand them out to reporters all over the country, and you know what? We wouldn’t talk about this tomorrow.

Republicans hit back creatively. On Twitter, conservatives started saying that they had heard Reid is a pederast (or–same thing–a child molester). They noted that Reid had not denied the report, even though it is “out there” and demands a response. Actually, the rumor that Reid is a pederast has somewhat more credibility than Reid’s rumor that Romney doesn’t pay taxes. We know the latter claim is false, since federal tax law and the IRS wouldn’t permit it. On the other hand, we have absolutely no idea whether Reid is a pederast. It’s possible.

Reid doesn't have anything better to do. He hasn't produced a budget for 3 years, nor has he acted on a variety of bills that might get the stalled economy off the schnide.
So perhaps the reason Reid has turned into a Democratic attack dog is because he's bored. I imagine if Romney is elected president, Reid will be as busy as he ever has been.

I don’t know who Harry Reid’s source is, but I do know that Mitt Romney could clear this up in 10 seconds by releasing the 23 years of tax returns that he gave to John McCain when he was being vetted for vice president. Or even 12 years of tax returns that his own father said were what was appropriate. Because one year of tax returns, like he’s released, could just be for show. And let’s not forget that a week ago, Mitt Romney said in response to a reporter’s question when asked if he had ever paid a rate below 13.9 percent, that he would check and get back to us. And you know, I’m glad I wasn’t holding my breath waiting for Mitt Romney to get back to us on answering that question, because he still hasn’t responded whether he’s paid a lower tax rate.

It's one of the most outrageous charges that I've ever seen actually made on the Senate Floor. . . . He absolutely should not release any more tax returns. He has released two years. Bill Clinton wouldn’t release his medical records. You know, people kind of wondered about that. You know perfectly well, the media, this is Obama’s modus operandi, and unfortunately Romney isn’t divorced. Hopefully, his vice presidential candidate won’t be divorced. It’s always dirty politics. You remember when Romney was — or Obama was running against McCain and Sarah Palin. What did we get? False rumors of a McCain affair. We had investigations into the Palin marriage, claims they were getting divorced. They have nothing on this Mormon, and they want his tax records. If they releases 10 years, they’ll demand 20 years.

Is it just me...Or does Rand look like in the beginning of the interview that he is about to do something that he doesn't want to do? You think he was forced to say this for some reason? Because his reasons for "supporting" which is a vague term to me are really lame (such as families are similar??) and one is inaccurate about romney supporting the audit of the fed. I just wonder if he is being framed, bullied, or something else.

*keanu conspiracy face* What if Rand endorsed Romney in order to get the VP position and basically infiltrate the GOP's higher ranks? What if Rand does a complete reversal against Romney if they are elected? We don't know what's going on in his head and I don't believe that Ron and Carol Paul would produce a "Liberty Judas". But I guess, like the eternal struggle Christ talked about, as well as the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, fathers will be divided from the sons.
I can't even fathom this right now, unless the above is true. :(

I was under the suspicion that Rand may betray his father and us because he was supported by Neo-cons like Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee in his Senatorial race in Kentucky. And we all know that if you're endorsed by establishment goons like those, you'll almost certain turn out like them....

We, the Liberty Live Stream Team, after hearing about Rand's defection to the dark side (on Hannity no less!) felt like (after interviewing Jordan Page and cheering RP at the Texas Liberty Rally tonight) we were just punched in the gut and then stabbed in the back and kicked in the face. This goes against everything we've learned from the voice of liberty. Romney is a flip-flopping, banker-backed liar. We will not bend; we will now bow to tyranny from any party and we're NOT FOR SALE. Goodbye Rand. You have abandoned PRINCIPLE.

If Ron Paul endorses Romney, I am calling America lost to never be recovered again - in a way he really is the last leg of confidence America has. And he represents and entire generation that can bring America back. I think this would all collapse if he goes to the dark side.
