Election Jokes of the Week March 20, 2016

 photo Jester.png

I’m speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain and I’ve said a lot of things.
~ Donald Trump on Morning Joe discussing his foreign policy consultant - himself

(Tuesday March 15 was a) Disappointing night for Bernie Sanders, which was a surprise; he was polling well among everyone's most annoying Facebook friends.
~ Jimmy Kimmel

I'd like to thank everyone for voting for me, and to everyone else for making your Facebook feed so so annoying! I mean, I love my supporters, but they're too much, right? I'm great, but I'm not five posts a day great. With all due respect to my supporters, get a life!
~ Larry David as Bernie Sanders on Saturday Night Live

Larry David/Bernie Sanders: Can I ask you something? What's a superdelegate? Who calls themselves that? It's so cocky! They walk around like they're such bigshots - Oooh, I beg your pardon, Mr. Superdelegate. Let me tell you something - I've met some of these superdelegates. They're not so super. Mediocre delegates is more like it.
Fake Jake Tapper: But Senator, many people believe you need these superdelegates.
Larry David/Bernie Sanders: Not true, not true. I have the voters. My message is resonating with a very diverse group of white people. And I've got supporters of all ages. 18 year olds, 19 year olds. Yeah, that's it. The young people love me, Tapper, because I'm like them. I got alot of big plans and absolutely no idea how to achieve them.
Fake Jake Tapper: You're still struggling with minorities. Why do you think you don't attract them?
Larry David/Bernie Sanders: Because I look like someone who at some point told them, 'Hey, get out of my store."

Ben Carson, Trump and Bernie Sanders Skit SNL

Donald and I are like night and day, ebony and orange-y. And sure, we've had our polite disagreements - I question his knowledge on health care, and he called me a psycho and a child-molester.
~ Fake Ben Carson on Saturday Night Live

Even if Donald Trump turns out not to be such a great president, which I don't think is the case, I think he's going to surround himself with really good people. But even if he didn't, we're only looking at four years as opposed to multiple generations, and perhaps the loss of the American dream forever.
~ Unintentional joke from the real Dr. Ben Carson, ex-GOP candidate for President

It was reported yesterday that an op-ed written by Donald Trump seems to have been blatantly plagiarized from an article written by Dr. Ben Carson days before. People first became suspicious when Trump’s op-ed began, “As a black doctor…”
~ Seth Myers

DICKERSON: You once said that choosing between Trump and Cruz is like the difference between being shot or poisoned. So, how is your health?
GRAHAM: Well, you can -- maybe they will find an antidote to poisoning. It's hard once you're shot to get over it.
~ John Dickerson on CBS Face the Nation and Senator Lindsey Graham, March 20

The hacking group “Anonymous” has apparently declared war against Donald Trump. Of course, hacking him shouldn’t be hard, because if there's anyone who just uses their name as their password, it's Donald Trump.
~ Jimmy Fallon

And if Ted Cruz is right, if every single anti-Trump voter unites behind him, he could get enough delegates to be the nominee. Then the GOP establishment can say 'Goodbye, candidate we don't like! Hello, candidate we can't stand!'
~ Stephen Colbert

If Cruz can't do it, there's one other way to deny Trump the nomination: a 'brokered convention.' You see when a candidate wins a primary, he really wins delegates who are committed to him at the party convention. But only for the first ballot. So if Trump doesn't get 1,237 delegates in the first round of voting they're all free to vote for whoever. This is great news: the Republican campaign could start all over again, but this time it's crammed into one week. You can binge-watch the death of the GOP.
~ Stephen Colbert

Reopublicans don't like calling it a 'brokered convention.' They have a much nicer name - ('open convention'). I'm sorry, not 'brokered,' 'open,' Just like, 'Honey, we don't have a broken marriage, we have an open marriage. And I know we never discussed it, but it will spice things up to bring in an outsider. And I think we'll end up trusting each other even more. Stronger.'

Countdown to the Fox Clown Car Debate
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As expected, Trump upstaged the other candidates during the first Fox #GOP Debate. Right out of the box, he was the only candidate to say he wouldn't promise not to run as an Independent if he didn't get the nomination. When pressed on the issue, he kept restating that even if they rejected him, he would still cause trouble by running as a third party candidate.
He also kept his hard-line stance on the border wall with Mexico:
 photo Trump-Wall.gif
Pushed by hostess Megyn Kelly to explain why he attacks women, Trump said he wished he could say a few things to her, and it was clear to see the bully-boy come out.
 photo Trump-Rosie.gif
Then Trump went after Kelly on Twitter
by retweeting attacks on her performance:
Also this happened:
 photo Trump-Debate1.gif
The rest of the primary candidates spent time trying to dig themselves out of old holes caused by old statements, or they tried to climb over Trump to get their message out.
Ben Carson mumbled about taxes based on Biblical Tithing, just sounding silly. Huckabee mentioned Benghazi at least once. Scott Walker got in a zinger at Hillary Clinton's emails, but also sounded Mitt-like by talking about war with bayonets. Jeb Bush just looked tired and clueless, while Marco Rubio sounded well-rehearsed but also anti-immigration so why would Latinos vote for him?
Chris Christie attempted to play up his involvement with Homeland Security during 9-11 when he was Attorney General of New Jersey prosecuting terrorists. But in most viewer's minds, it just begs the question of why he would then turn around and close down a bridge just for petty politics?
Ted Cruz ran against Washington, giving a mini-speech about cancelling everything about Obama on "Day One" of his Presidency (which will never happen). Cruz was also unintentionally funny, saying his Dad was once a drug addict before he found Jesus. And now . . . his Daddy is a religion addict-fanatic.
All of them want more War, and less Planned Parenthood.
The only Republican that came off sounding moderate was Governor John Kasich, but his message of love, acceptance and help is so far removed from the core of the Tea Party that he is dead in the water now. However, they might drag him along as Veep just to try and win the Ohio swing-state vote.
Countdown to GOP Trump Clown Car Debate
 photo 7bf88742-a6da-45ab-96b2-fb09719de754.png
OMG - there will be two hours of debate on Fox News Thursday night, from 9-11 p.m. with Trump and nine Non-Trumps, plus an earlier hour of debate from 5-6 pm of the also-rans who didn't make the cut.
So get your popcorn, a iPad or phone for tweeting, and some alcohol for a drinking game. It doesn't get any better than this!
From USA Today
In naming the debate field, Fox News said Trump led its poll aggregation with 23.4%, followed by Bush at 12% and Walker at 10.2%.
The remainder of the top ten: Huckabee (6.6%), Carson (5.8%), Cruz (5.4%), Rubio (5.4%), Paul (4.8%), Christie (3.4%) and Kasich (3.2%).
The percentages for the other candidates: Perry (1.8%), Santorum (1.4%), Jindal (1.4%), Fiorina (1.3%), Graham (0.7%), Pataki (0.6%) and Gilmore (0.2%).
Except for Trump, the Polls Look Rather Limp-O-Tent
 photo 4ea942b2-1ff3-47e9-b76a-9fa34978d9e8.png
Rachel Maddow pointed out that Fox broke their own rules to bump Perry from the main debate but allow in John Kasich, Governor of Ohio, who just entered the race last week. Where is the debate being held? Cleveland, Ohio. Coincidence. Absolutely not.
Via Raw Story
“This is nuts,” she said. “I can’t believe they did this. I mean, I get that Fox News only wants to have 10 candidates on the stage. They know, and everybody knows, that arbitrarily setting this 10-candidate cutoff when you’ve got 17 people running is gonna have politically-fatal consequences for if not all, at least most of the candidates who don’t make that top 10.”
Maddow explained that Fox originally said it would use the five most recent polls to determine which candidates would make it into Thursday’s debate. However, the network ended up ignoring an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll conducted between July 26 and 30 showing Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Ohio Gov. John Kasich within one percentage point of each other and instead used a Quinnipiac University poll gathered between July 23 and 28 showing Kasich ahead by three percentage points.
“That decision had the effect of making John Kasich look like he is way more clearly ahead of Rick Perry than he would look otherwise,” she said.
. . . “They violated their own previously-announced criteria of what polls they use,” she said. “They moved the goal posts in the middle of the game in a way that makes it look like they were trying to justify the lineup of who they wanted on stage.”
President Obama Signs Historic Iran Deal - GOP Throws Tantrum
 photo IranDeal2.jpg
President Obama signed a historic agreement with Iran and other world leaders.
From CNN
"Today after two years of negotiation the United States together with the international community has achieved something that decades of animosity has not: a comprehensive long-term deal with Iran that will prevent it from obtaining a nuclear weapon," Obama said from the White House, with Vice President Joe Biden at his side.
"This deal is not built on trust. It's built on verification," Obama said Tuesday.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also praised the deal, speaking after Obama finished, as televisions in Iran broadcast the U.S. President's statement live, translated into Farsi.
"Negotiators have reached a good agreement and I announce to our people that our prayers have come true," Rouhani said in a live address to the nation following Obama.
The essential idea behind the deal is that in exchange for limits on its nuclear activities, Iran would get relief from sanctions while being allowed to continue its atomic program for peaceful purposes.
Complete Iran Deal Press Conference with President Obama 1-15-2015
ABC's Jon Karl, well-known GOP tool, tried to make it political and ask about Donald Trump, and Obama waved him off:
CBS News reporter Major Garrett tried to start a Benghazi-like controversy by asking whether the President even cared about hostages in Iran and he got a smackdown from the President.
"The notion that I'm 'content' as I celebrate, with American citizens languishing in Iranian jails?
Major, that's nonsense.
And you should know better."
~ President Obama
Turns out, both Karl and Garret may have been asking about hostages because Trump brought the issue up on MSNBC's Morning Joe. He also said the President and John Kerry should have read his book, "The Art of the Deal."
Trump, Via RealClearPolitics
Well, they didn't read The Art of the Deal. Most people did, they didn't. It's a ridiculous deal. Even a thing like, you know, nuclear's so important and stopping nuclear proliferation, which just as likely will enhance, but so important.
But something like at the beginning when they were discussing it, we had three prisoners, we now have four prisoners.
Automatically you say, listen, not going to do you any good, release the prisoners would send a great signal to everybody.
You don't care about them, but we do, important for the United States. Just release the prisoners. Now, if that's deliver by the right messenger, they would have done it a long time ago. Amazingly, they -- I don't think that Kerry brought it up.
That GOP champion, Benjamin Netanyahu,is not a happy camper with the President either:
Senator Marco Rubio agrees with Bibi:
Mike Huckabee cries "Shame!" Apparently world peace bothers him more than his friends (like Josh Duggar) who molest little girls.
Lindsey Graham is just overwhelmed by the Iran Deal.
Jeb Bush sought to contrast his view with Hillary
using some "Presidential" looking graphics:
Ted Cruz fell back on the old "On Day One" promise.
(Which never worked for Mitt, but oh well...)
Chris Christie - It's a "dangerous game"
Republicans React to Gay Marriage Ruling ~ UPDATED
#LoveWins ~ Gay Marriage Upheld by Supreme Court
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Republicans had mixed reactions when the Supreme Court made Gay Marriage the law of the land on Friday.

Some tried to be the voice of reason, which is rare for the GOP.

We will comply with the decision and will ensure that our departments are able to do so as quickly as possible.
~ Republican Governor Bill Haslam of Tennessee

. . . I’ve long been supportive of gay rights — it’s hard not to see these people as just wanting the human dignity that the rest of us have. I’m trying to tell my party: You’re going to be a relic. You’re going to be left behind if you don’t come to terms with the fact that this is our future.
~ CNN Conservative Pundit S.E. Cupp

When it comes to the Supreme Court, I'm very happy that they made the right decision on that, because we, in California, we're always a step ahead. We made the decision already a long time ago.
~ Arnold Schwarzenegger via People

Guided by my faith, I believe in traditional marriage. I believe the Supreme Court should have allowed the states to make this decision. I also believe that we should love our neighbor and respect others, including those making lifetime commitments. In a country as diverse as ours, good people who have opposing views should be able to live side by side. It is now crucial that as a country we protect religious freedom and the right of conscience and also not discriminate.
~ GOP presidential candidate, Jeb Bush

While I strongly disagree with the Supreme Court’s decision, their ruling is now the law of the land. I call on Congress to make sure deeply held religious views are respected and protected.
~ GOP hopeful, Ben Carson

This decision short-circuits the political process that has been underway on the state level for years. While I disagree with this decision, we live in a republic and must abide by the law.
~ Senator Marco Rubio, R-Florida

Given the quickly changing tide of public opinion on this issue, I do not believe that an attempt to amend the U.S. Constitution could possibly gain the support of three-fourths of the states or a supermajority in the U.S. Congress. Rather than pursing a divisive effort that would be doomed to fail, I am committing myself to ensuring the protection of religious liberties of all Americans.
~ Senator Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, running for GOP Nomination

To me, it is not freedom from religion, it is freedom of religion, which ultimately means we have the right to practice our religious beliefs and not have others interfere.
We should respect the opinions of others in America, but that in return means that they not only respect our opinions, they respect what is written in the Constitution.
~ Scott Walker, Governor of Wisconsin and 2016 Presidential hopeful

GOP Candidate Donald Trump to his credit, admitted that his own marriages were not spectacular:

From The Hill
“I’m for traditional marriage,” Trump told (CNN's Jake) Tapper, adding that the opinions surround the issue are “changing rapidly.”
Although Trump’s interview aired two days after the Supreme Court declared that same-sex marriage is legal in every state, it was recorded before that decision.
Trump later declared that he disagreed with the court, adding that states should be allowed to decide whether same-sex marriage is legal.
Tapper pressed Trump on his own marital history, asking how he would respond if a gay or lesbian person asked “what’s traditional about being married three times?”
“They have a very good point,” Trump responded.
He went on to defend his behavior in his previous marriages with Ivana Trump and Marla Maples. “I blame myself because my business was so powerful to me,” he said.

Others took predictably extreme views to pander to the Right or stonewall the inevitable change.

There is no such thing as same-sex marriage in the constitution. The words are not there, we've never had it in our history. Five judges on the Supreme Court, or justices, have presumed to find a fundamental right which has no basis in the history or logic or tradition of our country.
I think the law of the land is plain. It's the United States Constitution. Not an opinion of the Supreme Court which contradicts that law.
~ Roy Moore, Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court

UPDATE: At a Sunday church service in Alabama, Justice Roy Moore doubled down, preaching that Christians were going to be persecuted over the Gay Marriage Law.

From Al.com
"Just who do they think they are when one person can reverse 200-and-something years of precedent in our country and thousands of years of precedent in western civilization," Moore said during remarks Sunday at Kimberly Church of God.
The Republican chief justice, often a lightning rod for controversy, was careful at times to quote or paraphrase the words of dissenting justices in describing his opposition including Justice Samuel Alito's prediction that opponents of gay marriage would be vilified and Chief Justice John Robert's phrase of, "Just who do we think we are?"
"Welcome to the new world. It's just changed for you Christians. You are going to be persecuted according to the U.S Supreme Court dissents," Moore said.
. . . "Is there such a thing as morality anymore? Sodomy for centuries was declared to be against the laws of nature and nature's God. And now if you say that in public, and I guess I am, am I violating somebody's civil rights? Have we elevated morality to immorality? Do we call good, bad? What are we Christians to do?" Moore spoke at the church's "God and Country Day" on an altar decorated with American flags and beneath a projected image of Jesus on a cross.

This is something that should be decided by the people, not by, as (Roberts) called it, five lawyers. That said, those five lawyers get to impose it under our system.
~ New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie

The Supreme Court is completely out of control, making laws on their own, and has become a public opinion poll instead of a judicial body. If we want to save some money, let’s just get rid of the court.
Marriage between a man and a woman was established by God, and no earthly court can alter that.
~ Louisiana Governor and GOP Candidate, Bobby Jindal

UPDATE: By Sunday, Gov. Jindal had flip-flopped. I guess someone smart (i.e. not GOP) had law-splained to him that Louisiana couldn't afford all the lawsuits they would get if they didn't comply with the Supreme Court.

From NBC News
Presidential candidate Gov. Bobby Jindal, R-La., said on NBC's "Meet the Press" that while he disagrees with the Supreme Court's ruling legalizing same-sex marriage in all 50 states, his state will abide by the Court's decision.
"We don't have a choice," Jindal said Sunday. "Our agencies will comply with the court order."
. . . As of Sunday afternoon, Louisiana was the only state in the nation that had not issued any marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
"As soon as [the courts] issue their ruling, I suspect it will be a matter of days. I don't know how quickly they will move," Jindal said when asked how soon he will comply with the law.

One size will not fit all. That's not how this country was set up. This week the Supreme Court made decisions that, I'll be real honest with you, I didn't agree with at all. I have said from the get-go that these decisions, particularly that decision about traditional marriage, needed to be made in the states. I believe that with all my heart. That is where that needs to be decided.
~ Texas Ex-Governor and GOP Candidate, Rick Perry

This is not a typical moment in American history. The last 24 hours at the United States Supreme Court were among the darkest hours of our nation.
~ Senator Ted Cruz R-Texas at a presidential campaign stop in Iowa

"The Supreme Court has spoken with a very divided voice on something only the Supreme Being can do-redefine marriage. I will not acquiesce to an imperial court any more than our Founders acquiesced to an imperial British monarch. We must resist and reject judicial tyranny, not retreat.
. . . This ruling is not about marriage equality, it's about marriage redefinition.
The Supreme Court can no more repeal the laws of nature and nature's God on marriage than it can the law of gravity. Under our Constitution, the court cannot write a law, even though some cowardly politicians will wave the white flag and accept it without realizing that they are failing their sworn duty to reject abuses from the court. If accepted by Congress and this President, this decision will be a serious blow to religious liberty, which is the heart of the First Amendment.
~ GOP Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee, in a prepared statement

. . . the only reason you could possibly oppose changing marriage laws in America is because you hate people of the same sex who want to marry. But that’s not true.
. . . It’s a decision based on a lie. It’s a decision based on fundamental untruths. And yet it is the law of the land.
. . . We are now faced not just with a society that’s going to say and is saying that marriage has nothing to do with children. That’s the impact of this decision. Marriage has nothing to do with children.
~ GOP Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum at the Western Conservative Summit in Denver, Colorado

Lindsey Graham promises "Rotating First Lady"

 photo Senator-Lindsay-Graham.jpg

Senator Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, will surely never be President, but just in case, the unmarried candidate for the GOP nomination is heading off speculation about his hypothetical First Lady.

From ABC News
What will bachelor Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., do if he’s elected president in 2016 without a first lady?

“I've got a lot of friends,” the Republican presidential hopeful joked in an exclusive interview with the UK news outlet Daily Mail Online.

“We'll have a rotating first lady.”

It’s the first time the war hawkish South Carolina senator acknowledged his marital status since he began contemplating a run for the White House in 2016.

Oh, but wait - he also has a sister! She can be first lady!

From Newsmax
Republican presidential contender Lindsey Graham, a lifelong bachelor, has come up with a plan for how to fill the role of first lady should he take up residence at the White House.

"Well, I've got a sister, she could play that role if necessary"

. . . Graham announced his candidacy in Central, South Carolina, on June 1. His sister, Darline Graham Nordone, was there to introduce him.

Nordone has previously said she's occupied with her immediate family and her job as a public information director for the state's Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, so it's unclear what role she could take up in a Graham presidency, CNN reported.

Many have speculated over the years that Lindsey Graham is actually gay and in the good-old Southern church-going Tea Party - courting closet. But he certainly won't "come out" during a Presidential run, lest the South Carolina Evangelicals refuse to vote for him in the primaries. Indeed, he sought to reassure his conservative voters that though he is unmarried, he is not "defective" - a dog whistle for gay, perhaps. In fact, he almost married one of them-thar wimmens, so he's macho, y'all.

From Politico
Sen. Lindsey Graham says he’s not “defective” because he’s single. While he’s “been close once” to marrying a woman, he’s unsure why he never did so. And he said that if voters want a John F. Kennedy-esque clan in the White House, they should look elsewhere.
“If you are looking for Camelot, I’m not your guy,” Graham said in an interview. “If you’re looking for glitz and glamour, I’m probably the worst choice in the bunch. If you are looking for a determined person to be president, I think I can fill that bill.”
. . . “I’ve been close once early on, [as I was] taking care of my sister,” Graham said when asked why he never married. “It’s something I really don’t know the answer to, other than I think it’s OK. At the end of the day, there’s nothing wrong about not being married. Having a marriage and a good family and children is a blessing. But I don’t think I’m a defective person by any means.”

Soon the crazy spread to other politicians, as Senator Mark Kirk, R-Illinois, said this:

From Politico
“I’ve been joking with Lindsey,” Kirk said, according to audio from the Huffington Post.

“Did you see that? He’s going to have a rotating first lady. He’s a bro with no ho.”
After emerging from a meeting in the office of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), the usually outspoken Kirk was mostly mum about what he’d said about Graham, a longtime bachelor with White House ambitions.
“No. No, comment,” Kirk said. Asked if he regretted the comment, Kirk responded: “I do.”

His old bromantic friend John McCain chimed in:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Graham’s best friend in the Senate, offered this assessment: “I know he’s dated some attractive women from time to time, but I’ve never seen him get real serious.”
McCain added with a big laugh: “I’ve often told Lindsey that he couldn’t find anybody that loves him as much as he does.”

Okay! :)

GOP Senators Vent Poutrage with Holder at Loretta Lynch Confirmation

Wahmbulance photo 946492-wambulance_super.jpg

The GOP has been itching to impeach Eric Holder for years, whether for the made-up "Fast and Furious" conspiracy theory, or just because he's Obama's Attorney General, and also black.

But now Holder is about to leave office, so the GOP decided to use the Senate Confirmation Hearing of Loretta Lynch to throw shade on Holder. And they did it with complete nonsense and random statements that had nothing to do with Lynch or her career. Somebody please call them a Wahhhhhhmbulance!

Clueless Ted Cruz Helps President Obama

 photo Bj3gLj6CIAAEvBE.jpg

Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, still doesn't understand how the Senate works. He only knows that every "patriot" and Tea Party member needs to hate Obama, and they need to keep throwing down the gauntlet to the old-style GOP members who aren't extreme enough for his liking. What he'd love is another big government shutdown that puts the spotlight on his favorite Senator, himself. But Mitch McConnell has already put the kibosh on that idea since it was a big turn-off for the rest of the country last year.

And now it's hilarious to watch Cruz pitch a tantrum and try to get Mitch McConnell to do his bidding. Old Mitch would rather strike deals with lame-duck Majority Leader Harry Reid than let Ted "Anointed One" Cruz have more power over the Senate. And that's exactly what happened - the GOP turned against Ted Cruz, mainly because he is never a team player.

This time it really backfired on Cruz, LOL. He and his toady, Mike Lee R-Utah, insisted that the Senate work through the weekend so they could have a vote on whether the President's Executive Order on Immigration was Constitutional. The vote didn't go as expected, with many GOP Senators voting the opposite from Cruz, and on top of that the President suddenly got the green light for some of his languishing nominations since they were in session anyway.

And then today the Senate stood up to the NRA lobby and passed through the nomination of Vivek Murthy as Surgeon General.

Thanks, Ted Cruz, you idiot! Merry Christmas!

From Talking Points Memo
It began on Friday evening, when Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) were close to securing an agreement to quickly vote on the $1.1 trillion "CRomnibus" spending bill to avert a government shutdown. Cruz, along with Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), blindsided Republican leaders by objecting and dragging out the process as they demanded a vote to defund Obama's executive actions on immigration.
What Cruz didn't count on was Reid instead seizing on the occasion — which forced the Senate to stay in session for procedural votes — to move forward with starting the confirmation vote clock on a whopping 24 Obama nominations that otherwise might have been jettisoned. The Texan's tactic angered numerous Republican colleagues.
"I think most Republicans think that Christmas came early for Democrats," Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said, according to Roll Call, blaming Cruz. "I haven't seen Harry smile this much in years, and I didn't particularly like it."

Is #Benghazi Mania Over? Report Closes Door on Scandal

Amazingly the report from Congress on Benghazi finally puts to rest the idea that there was a "government conspiracy" to withhold armed forces from protecting the consulate there. Basically, there was no there there, as they say.

CNN Reports
The final report, from Chairman Mike Rogers, R-Michigan, and ranking member Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, D-Maryland, concludes there was no intelligence failure prior to the attack, no stand-down order to CIA operatives trying to go assist at the besieged consular building and found conflicting intelligence in the wake of the attack about the motive and cause, which were reflected in early public comments by the administration.
. . . he declassified version of the report attempts to knock down other accusations about the Benghazi incident and aftermath, finding no evidence of CIA employees being intimidated from testifying and also no indication the CIA presence in Benghazi was partially to secretly ship arms from Libya to Syria.
The September 11, 2012, attack left U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods dead, and immediately sparked controversy, with Republicans accusing the Obama administration of mishandling the attack and manipulating the talking points used to discuss it for political reasons.

Of course, the far right can't let go of their favorite rallying cry without a few more whimpers of poutrage.

Take Lindsey Graham, for instance. Please. He's been the King of Benghazi!!!!!!!!!!!! Madness for years now, and got reelected by stirring up his constituents with it. So where does he go from here? Well, that report just has to be wrong!

From Talking Points Memo
"I think the report is full of crap," Graham said on CNN's "State of the Union."
The senator insisted that members of the administration altered the Benghazi talking points after the attack.
"I'm saying that anybody who has followed Benghazi at all knows that the CIA deputy director did not come forward to tell Congress what role he played in changing the talking points," he said. "And the only way we knew he was involved is when he told a representative at the White House, I'm going to do a hard review of this, a hard rewrite."

And what about Darrell Issa, who led the Benghazi investigation in the House, and wasted millions in taxpayer money? Oh, well . . . he's lost his committee chairmanship and doesn't have much to say.

Will Fox News and the rest of the Far Right ever take back all the accusations on Benghazi? Don't hold your breath!

Benghazi Bust Turns Right-Wing Theories to Dust

 photo 552701b3-f8bc-41d5-9480-bff16135f8b3.jpg

Hooray for the Obama Administration! Not only did they vanquish Osama bin Laden, now they have captured the ring-leader of the Benghazi attacks! And guess what? The suspect is saying that the whole thing went down exactly as Susan Rice said in the original CIA/Petraeus talking points - he attacked the American consulate at Benghazi because of a video he had watched that was inflaming the entire Middle East at the time, a video made in the U.S. by Egyptian Coptic Christians and funded by Jewish donors making fun of the Prophet Mohammed.

So all the Right-Wing gnashing of teeth and screaming "Benghazzzzzzzzzziii" as a battle cry should be over. But wait - last night Hillary Clinton was grilled about Benghazi on Fox News, and there are now questions from the nutjobs about how "convenient" the story is from the suspect, and is he real, or merely a false-flag actor created by the evil Obama to boost Hillary and make the GOP look f***ing bonkers?

Well, they don't need that much help from Obama or Hillary to sound bonkers. So expect more outrageous and entertaining reactions from the far-right fringe, but the real story of Benghazi is pretty much over for the rest of the world, thanks to President Obama.

From Washington Post:
One of the suspected ringleaders of the 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi that killed four Americans, Abu Khattala is the first of the alleged perpetrators to be apprehended. He now awaits a transfer to the United States and a federal trial in the District.
U.S. officials said the joint Special Operations and FBI mission had been planned for months and was approved by President Obama on Friday. The Pentagon said that there were no civilian or other casualties and that all involved U.S. personnel had safely left Libya.
The administration provided few details about the operation itself, where Abu Khattala is being held or the timing of his first appearance in court. After news of the capture became public Tuesday morning, Obama, on a visit to Pennsylvania, said Abu Khattala “is now being transported back to the United States.” Administration officials said they expected him to appear in court here within days.

From New York Times
On the day of the attack, Islamists in Cairo had staged a demonstration outside the United States Embassy there to protest an American-made online video mocking Islam, and the protest culminated in a breach of the embassy’s walls — images that flashed through news coverage around the Arab world.
As the attack in Benghazi was unfolding a few hours later, Mr. Abu Khattala told fellow Islamist fighters and others that the assault was retaliation for the same insulting video, according to people who heard him.
