Return of the Romneys

I'd say he (Mitt) is in a better place than (Ann) is. Not to say she’s bitter — and she enjoys her life. Look, they live on the beach, north of San Diego and a bunch of their grandkids are around. You know, they’ve got a pretty great life. But she I think feels the pain and the what-ifs and the hurt more than he does. And it comes through in the interview. There’s a lot of emotion that comes through in the interview, and she’s more open about it — the ‘what might have been.

On Losing:

ANN ROMNEY: It was a crushing disappointment. Not for us. Our lives are going to be fine. It's for the country.
WALLACE: Is it true you began to cry?
ANN ROMNEY: I did, of course. Yes. Very disappointed.
WALLACE: Cry for what?
ANN ROMNEY: Cry -- it's not -- again, is not sorrow for, oh, my gosh, you know, our lives are, you know, this dream -- the dream was to make a difference. The dream was to serve.

WALLACE: Mrs. Romney, as we sit here right now, have you gotten over the defeat? Or is that going to take more time?
ANN ROMNEY: I think it takes time. I think I'm mostly -- you know, the great "Princess Bride" line, "mostly dead."
I'm mostly over it. But not completely.
And you have moments where you, you know, go back and feel the sorrow of the loss. And so, yes, I think we're not mostly dead yet.
















Why Did Obama Win?
ANN ROMNEY: I think they had a better ground game. And I think we were not aware -- you know, we certainly had the passion coming from our side, and I don't think we were as aware of the passion that was coming from the other side. I think we were a little blindsided by that.

MITT ROMNEY: And -- and I won't get a third chance. I'm not doing it again. The weakness that our campaign had and that I had is we weren't effective in taking my message primarily to minority voters, to Hispanic-Americans, African-Americans, other minorities. That was a real weakness.
We did very well with the majority population, but not with minority populations. And that was a -- that was a failing. That was a real mistake.

WALLACE: Why do you think that was?

MITT ROMNEY: Well, I think the ObamaCare attractiveness and feature was something we underestimated in a -- particularly among lower incomes. And we just didn't do as -- as good a job at connecting with that audience as we should have.

On Their Media Image as Wealthy People
WALLACE: Do you think that the two of you at all contributed to this image, which the other side certainly played up, that you were so wealthy that you were somehow out of touch with the concerns of the average American?

ANN ROMNEY: You know, that's -- that's a reality that, you know, you can't change. I mean, we are who we are. The thing that was frustrating to me is that people didn't really get to know Mitt for who he was.
. . . But it was not just the campaign's fault. I believe it was the media's fault as well, is that he was not giving -- being given a fair shake, that people weren't allowed to really see him for who he was.

WALLACE: All right, what about the media?
(LAUGHTER)
ANN ROMNEY: I'm happy to blame the media.
(LAUGHTER)

On the Damaging 47% Remark
MITT ROMNEY: Yes, it was a very unfortunate statement that I made. It's not what I meant. I didn't express myself as I wished I would have.
You know, when you speak in private, you don't spend as much time thinking about how something could be twisted and distorted and -- and it could come out wrong and be used.
But, you know, I did. And it was very harmful. What I said is not what I believe. Obviously, my whole campaign -- my whole life has been devoted to helping people, all of the people. I care about all the people of the country.
But that hurt. There's no question that hurt and did real damage to my campaign.

Mitt's Plan: Uninsured Should go to Candy Mountain, I mean the ER

"Well, we do provide care for people who don't have insurance. If someone has a heart attack, they don't sit in their apartment and die. We pick them up in an ambulance, and take them to the hospital, and give them care. And different states have different ways of providing for that care."

Lose your job because you are too sick to work, lose your home because you lost your job, lose everything because you had no insurance to pay for your healthcare costs,.....
We've seen this horror film before, but Mitt paid no attention.

I'll simply state the obvious... ER visits are reactive, not preventive. When I can walk into an ER and pick up blood pressure or cholesterol meds which could PREVENT that hypothetical heart attack, that's when I'll consider the ER a form a socialized health care.

Let me tell you what happens when the uninsured to to the emergency room. You get a bill for somewhere between $10,000 and $20,000....then when you can't pay the ridiculous amount they have charged you....you get harassed for years by a collection agency. Sometimes...you get two bills...one from the local hospital and another from their parent company. I know someone this has happened to. It's a sad and dangerous situation.
Romney doesn't get it......just doesn't.

Does this mean that on day one of his presidency, when he repeals the Obama Affordable Care Act (as he promises to do) that ER's all over the country will happily fling open their doors to everyone with a vaginal infection, the hives, an earache, the flu, mild dizziness and other every-day type medical concerns?
He comes out with a reasonable, workable health care plan in Massachusetts, but 'ER's-IN-A-BOX' is the best he can do for a whole country?

Ann Coulter Explodes Over Andrea Saul Gaffe - Updated

UPDATES: This is one of those rare times when I think Ann is right. This is a turning point. But not the way she thinks. This is a real turning point in the existence for FOX on par with the famous "Seinfeld" episode where Jerry and George let everyone in on the joke behind their show. The difference here is that unlike "Seinfeld." which really was about nothing, little miss panicked partisan and block head just told the world what FOX is really about. Like Seinfeld's ratings, I think it is going to be all down hill from here. This is a point well worth highlighting. When people look back, this will be remembered as the moment when The Great Wizard was revealed by the yapping dog to be nothing but a carnival barker. Sure, they will try and distract people, shouting "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!" in unison. But it will do no good. Like "The Wizard of Oz" there isn't much more you can do with the plot but send everyone home.

Andrea Saul Commits Romneycide ~ with Updates

When Mitt Romney and Bain closed the plant, I lost my healthcare, and my family lost their healthcare. And a short time after that my wife became ill . . . and I took her up to the Jackson County Hospital and admitted her for pneumonia and that’s when they found the cancer and by then it was stage four/It was, there was nothing they could do for her. And she passed away in 22 days.

Harry Reid), is Romneycare's similarity to Obamacare. Saul's comment turns Romney into the conservative's worst nightmare! Their main complaint about Romney all the way back to the primary season was his implementation of Obamacare on a state level would make him an ineffective messenger on repealing the president's legislation.

Today they endorsed in essence the central idea of the Affordable Care Act. They've done it because they're in a lot of trouble. . . . they've lost the Long Hot Summer, they've ended up in a situation where Romney's upside-down in his favorable/unfavorable. These Bain ads are really hurting him. And they come up with this answer.
It seemed opportunistic, but it was stupid.

This is Andrea Saul committing the classic definition of a gaffe. . . . speaking for her boss perfectly. He believes in Massachusetts, in Romneycare. He thinks it's great. The problem for him is the contortions he's had to go through to get right with the Right, and . . . this thing is going to come back and kill him in the debates!
