Fox News Tries to Rescue Trump From Himself

Donald Trump is in trouble financially as businesses run from his empire, and he keeps doubling down on his remarks about these horrible Mexicans invading our country. His pals at Fox News are trying to pull him out of his deep hole, and especially Bill O'Reilly, who attempted to white-splain what Trump shoulda-woulda-coulda said if he hadn't been so stupidly blunt.

But here's the Catch-22 for Fox: If Trump wasn't so damn blunt about his racism towards Mexican immigrants, he wouldn't be at the top of the GOP contenders. Hate is all he has to give, and is oh-so-willing to give it to the world.

Today Trump made a new statement defending himself, saying his words were "distorted" by reporters and others who understand how to turn on a TV or search for a transcript.

Then he pointed out that Mexicans are bringing us diseases, in a flashback to last summer's Murrieta Madness as white people screamed at immigrant children on the border. That was exactly a year ago on the 4th of July - coincidence? I think not.

“I have lost a lot during this presidential run defending the people of the United States,” Trump said. “I have always heard that it is very hard for a successful person to run for president.”
Trump said in his statement that some in the news media had begun to “totally distort” what he had said over the past week, and that “many fabulous people come in from Mexico and our country is better for it.”
However, he said, the United States has become “a dumping ground for Mexico” with illegal border-crossers smuggling illicit drugs and carrying “tremendous infectious disease.”
Trump said the recent killing of a woman in San Francisco by a illegal immigrant from Mexico with a criminal record proves him right.
“This is merely one of thousands of similar incidents throughout the United States. In other words, the worst elements in Mexico are being pushed into the United States by the Mexican government,” he said.

And even after that tweet was gone, he continued to taunt Bush about the Mexican border:





He also directed criticism at fellow candidate Rick Perry, once Governor of Texas:





Trump has seized upon the death of a woman, Kathryn Steinle, in San Francisco, CA, to "prove" his talking points because an illegal immigrant has been arrested. He also used the opportunity to taunt candidate Marco Rubio, a child of Cuban immigrants himself.

"There's tremendous crime and illegal immigration is just incredible. As far as Rubio, he's very weak on immigration," he said in the phone interview. "You know, I have great relations with Mexico and I love the Mexican people, and the spirit of the Mexican people. These are people just pouring across the border."









Fox News pundits jumped on the bandwagon about the death of Kathryn Steinle while trying to help Trump stay in as a Presidential contender. Good luck with that.

For decades Mexico City has allowed organized crime to brutalize its own people and Americans, as well.
Some of the drug organizations have branched out into people smuggling, charging money to get desperate migrants across the border.
In the process many, perhaps most, migrant women are sexually molested, and that was the rape situation Donald Trump mentioned.
But it's not ordinary Mexicans doing the raping. It's the gangsters, and Trump should have made that clear.

. . . Fifty-nine percent of Mexican residents and illegal aliens have less than a high school education.
Only four percent have a college degree.
Sixty-eight percent are poor or near poor.
Fifty-seven percent receive means-tested welfare of some kind.
Fifty-six percent do not have health insurance. Many of those will receive Obamacare subsidies.
So, Trump's analysis is correct. The majority of Mexicans coming to the USA are not achievers in the economic sense.

. . . Last Wednesday Kate was walking with her father in San Francisco when she was shot dead on the street for absolutely no reason at all.
Police say 45-year-old Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, an illegal alien from Mexico, murdered Kate.
Apparently Sanchez has seven felony convictions and had been deported five times.
Yet he was still walking around the streets of San Francisco.
That's because Mayor Ed Lee and the eleven members of the San Francisco City Supervisors refuse to cooperate with the federal government on criminal aliens.

The Constitution demands that the federal government protect Americans from foreign intruders.
Obviously, that responsibility is not being met. And if you point that out as Trump did, you are a racist, a piñata for the open-border crowd to bash.

Donald is the Energizer Bunny of Bigotry, and keeps going and going and going. Or maybe he's more like a broken record, or a squeaky windmill, or a repetitious dog whistle. He just cannot back down on remarks he made last week accusing nearly all Mexican Immigrants of being criminals and rapists. On the contrary, he is doubling down. In his mind, he is absolutely correct and therefore cannot see why he should back down, especially when he is appealing to so many Tea Partiers who feel the same way.

Please proceed, Mr. Trump.

On Wednesday, Trump, who is a Republican presidential candidate, told Lemon he was pulling his facts from a Fusion article.
. . . "If you go to Fusion, you will see a story: About 80% of the women coming in, you know who owns Fusion? Univision! Go to Fusion and pick up the stories on rape. It's unbelievable when you look at what's going on. So all I'm doing is telling the truth," Trump said.
Lemon replied that the press stories are about women being raped, but not about criminals coming across the border.
"Well, somebody's doing the raping, Don! I mean somebody's doing it! Who's doing the raping? Who's doing the raping?" he asked.



Jon Stewart mocked him on Comedy Central:

...Our good friend Donald Trump reminding us that as much as a "handful of people" coming across our southern border are not rapists. He assumes. He’s sure about the rapist part. But feels that, I guess, by pure law of averages, there are probably some non rapists caught up in that tide, whether they’re unable to rape for medical reasons, or whether they are just all raped out.
As you can imagine, this statement from a Republican Presidential Candidate was noticed.
I believe we have our campaign slogan, Trump 2016: "Somebody's doing the raping!"

NASCAR joins a growing list of companies who have found Trump’s recent statements on Mexican immigrants offensive enough to cut ties with the mogul.
According to USA Today, this came after the urging of Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis, who sent a letter to NASCAR stating that he would not attend the Camping World Truck Series postseason banquet at the usual Trump resort. An excerpt from the letter quoted in USA Today reads:
Our company will not stand to support any person or organization that associates with such beliefs and we feel strongly about distancing ourselves from any negative and discriminatory comments made against any gender, ethnicity, age group or so forth. I would hope that the entire NASCAR organization would agree with my sentiments.
Camping World is the title sponsor of NASCAR’s truck racing series, and Lemonis himself even appeared on two episodes of Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice television show.

Don Lemon of CNN a woman who says actor Bill Cosby forced her to have oral sex. And Lemon, as only Lemon can, decided to go all "Blame the Victim" on her, suggesting she should have just "used her teeth" to escape. Once again he is in the Vortex of the Twilight Zone.

TARSHIS: Yeah.

LEMON: Because I know some of you -- and you said this last night, that he -- you lied to him and said "I have an infection, and if you rape me, or if you do -- if you have intercourse with me, then you will probably get it and give it to your wife."

TARSHIS: Right.

LEMON: And you said he made you perform oral sex.

TARSHIS: Right.

LEMON: You -- you know, there are ways not to perform oral sex if you didn't want to do it.

TARSHIS: Oh. Um, I was kind of stoned at the time, and quite honestly, that didn't even enter my mind. Now I wish it would have.

LEMON: Right. Meaning the using of the teeth, right?

TARSHIS: Yes, that's what I'm thinking you're --

LEMON: As a weapon.

TARSHIS: Yeah, I didn't even think of it.

LEMON: Biting. So, um --

TARSHIS: Ouch.

LEMON: Yes. I had to ask. I mean, it is, yeah.

TARSHIS: Yes. No, it didn't cross my mind.

Mad Man ~ George Will's Retro-Rape Misogyny

Conservative George Will wrote a column a few weeks ago man-splaining that rape victims on college campuses are getting too much attention from the Obama Administration. Why should our colleges and universities have to bother with sensitivity training, trigger warnings, or the plight of victims themselves?

The job of a university isn't to mollycoddle over-sexed teenagers, by golly! It's to make them read Hamlet!

Colleges and universities are being educated by Washington and are finding the experience excruciating. They are learning that . . . when they make victimhood a coveted status that confers privileges, victims proliferate.
. . . Now the Obama administration is riding to the rescue of “sexual assault” victims. It vows to excavate equities from the ambiguities of the hookup culture, this cocktail of hormones, alcohol and the faux sophistication of today’s prolonged adolescence of especially privileged young adults.
. . . the newest campus idea for preventing victimizations — an idea certain to multiply claims of them — is “trigger warnings.” They would be placed on assigned readings or announced before lectures. Otherwise, traumas could be triggered in students whose tender sensibilities would be lacerated by unexpected encounters with racism, sexism, violence (dammit, Hamlet, put down that sword!) or any other facet of reality that might violate a student’s entitlement to serenity
. . . Academia is learning that its attempts to create victim-free campuses — by making everyone hypersensitive, even delusional, about victimizations — brings increasing supervision by the regulatory state that progressivism celebrates.

With no irony whatsoever, Will brings up a Shakespearean play that has both a male and female character, Hamlet and Ophelia, on the verge of suicide while obsessing over sex. It's pretty damn clear the Bard understood young people much more than George Will does. The whole point of Hamlet - as well as Romeo and Juliet - is that when adults ignore the problems of young people there is hell to pay, for them and for everyone around them. Those plays aren't called "Tragedies" for nothing. Will may think that focusing on the plight of the victim is the psychological equivalent of a selfie on Facebook, but the feelings of those involved is no less true today than 500 years ago when Shakespeare was writing.

George Will is part of the Mad Men generation of the 1960s. His column could have been written by lothario misogynist Pete Campbell - Girls in mini-skirts and string bikinis are just asking for it. Throw in some hearty college lads with martinis and those sluts deserve whatever they get - Retro-Rape Misogyny at its worst.

In an interview with CSPAN Will refused to back down. Instead he blamed the Internets and our lack of critical thinking, missing the point once again, especially in defending young men accused of sexual assault. It's the age-old argument that male privilege is more important than female privilege, that no young woman should ruin the chances of a future medical student by telling the truth about rape. Will blindly ignores what the effect of rape might be on a young woman's future career as a doctor or lawyer, so he couldn't have been more tone-deaf to the modern world.

“Today, for some reason, indignation is the default position for certain people in civic discourse,” Will told interviewer Brian Lamb on C-SPAN, in an interview that will air sometime in July. “They go from a standing start to fury in about 30 seconds.”
The Internet has erased the barriers to public discourse, he said, and “among the barriers to entry that have been reduced [are that] you don’t need to read, write or think. You can just come in and call names and carry on. And we have all kinds of interest groups that think they will get attention . . . if they’re at maximum decibel levels.”
. . . By lowering the bar on such a serious crime, he said, many young men could be “permanently and seriously blighted” by legally unsubstantiated charges. He suggested they could be denied acceptance to medical or law school and that such allegations would invite “litigation of tremendous expense.”

The series Mad Men has shown us innocent Peggy Olson, who was used sexually by her boss, Pete Campbell, then tossed aside, and who has had to scramble her way to the top after giving up her baby. George Will's point is that Campbell's career was more important, whether Peggy had more talent or not. After all, Pete had more to lose - a family and a house in the country. Well, guess what? Misogynists tend to lose all that anyway because they screw around and their wives toss them out, which is what happens to Pete in the series.

But to George Will's generation, Peggy remains a slut, talented or not, end of story. Pregnant out of wedlock, she flees the office and has her baby, not sure of what to do. Meanwhile we get a glimpse of what the men in the office think of her - most believe she was pregnant with Don Draper's baby, but her lover, Pete Campbell stays in denial about his role in the affair, joking that Peggy has gone to a "fat farm." Because what does he care? Out of sight, out of mind, used and forgotten. Which is precisely the point of George Will's column - stop whining and get on with it, you selfish rape victims.

While it's true that Peggy Olson wasn't raped in Mad Men, George Will's advice for victimized young women is the same as Don Draper's advice to Peggy: "This never happened. It will shock you how much this never happened." In 1964 that might have been good advice, given the prejudices of the day. Now, not so much, and finally George Will is getting an education far beyond his 1964 counterparts.



Reaction to Will's Column has been swift and brutal:

...The flippant and pompous tone of your piece, and the blatant allegation that there is a tangible (or intangible) benefit to having been sexually victimized, belittles the genuine suffering of the millions of women (and men) who have been raped. I would like to invite you to sit in a room with a sexual assault victim and, to his or her face, dismiss that person’s suffering as having been a means to attain a “coveted status.”

Jen Gunter, an OB-GYN doctor wrote:
You labor under the fear (as some men do) that there is an epidemic of false rape. That good young men will go to jail for consent withdrawn after the fact. And while false accusations likely do happen (the Duke Lacrosse case is a recent, well-known example) these are the exception and not the rule and each time a male with a platform spouts off about a false epidemic of rape it only makes it harder for women who have been violated to come forward.
. . . There is no woman who I have ever met personally or as an OB/GYN who thinks that surviving a rape confers some sort of privilege. I am genuinely curious if you interviewed a few young women hoping to earn their college rape badge or is that just a conclusion you reached looking at the issue of sexual assault through the myopic lens of misogyny?
Come spend a day in my clinic Mr. Will. Come see how the scars of rape linger even decades later.
There is no survivor privilege, just survivors.

In meetings our offices have held with law enforcement, students, administrators, parents and university officials, we found that the culture on campuses, including harassment by fellow students and college officials, discourages survivors from reporting or seeking much needed services in the wake of a traumatic attack. Additionally, recent legislative and administrative actions at the federal level have received positive feedback from both survivor advocacy groups and institutions of higher education.
Your column suggests that we – including some of us who have worked on this issue for many years – all have missed a subculture on college campuses where survivors of sexual assault are inducted into a privileged class.
The culture you described is so antiquated, so counterintuitive and so contrary to anything we heard that we hope you will make an effort to hear the stories survivors bravely shared with us about the struggles they face in addressing what has happened to them – often with little meaningful assistance from authorities expected to help them. In this instance, your writing, which purports to be based on accurate facts and figures, has not only shown a fundamental disrespect to survivors, but also includes a harmful rhetoric that has made addressing this issue so difficult.

Starting today, Washington Post columnist Michael Gerson replaces George Will on Thursdays and Sundays.
. . . The change has been under consideration for several months, but a column published June 5, in which Mr. Will suggested that sexual assault victims on college campuses enjoy a privileged status, made the decision easier. The column was offensive and inaccurate; we apologize for publishing it.

"We did run it, but going back we took a look and realized there was a lot of offensive imagery in that that victimized women. We had to take responsibility for that. We published it. We wish we wouldn't have."

And while the Chicago Tribune didn't totally break with Will, they didn't use that column. Here's why, via Media Matters
The Tribune, one of the largest papers in the country, told Media Matters that the paper turned Will's column down after reading it.
In comments to Media Matters, Bruce Dold, editorial page editor of the Tribune, explained why his paper, which runs Will on occasion, passed on the June 7 column.
"I thought the column was misguided and insensitive," Dold told Media Matters Thursday. "We didn't publish it. Marcia Lythcott, the Op-Ed editor, made that decision and it was the right call."
The paper has no plans to abandon Will permanently, however.
"That doesn't mean we pulled Will for that week, though. We don't anchor syndicated columnists," Dold explained. "We run George Will on occasion. I checked our archives and it looks like we've run him four times in the past year. We will continue to consider him on a column by column basis, as we do with other syndicated columnists we buy."

. . . after editorial page editor Fred Hiatt defended George Will's article, another opinion piece by Brad Wilcox and Robin Wilson on June 10 told women that they protect themselves against violence by getting married, since violence against women is less common in marriages than it is in unmarried relationships (a point that they make by misusing data). The conclusion here is that it's women's responsibility to end male violence by getting married — rather than it being men's responsibility to end male violence by not doing it. And the article's earlier version had a byline that added racism to misogyny: "The data show that #yesallwomen would be safer hitched to their baby daddies."
The Washington Post should not be helping to promote defenses of rape culture and attacks on rape survivors. George Will and Fred Hiatt both need to go.

CPAC 2014 ~ Lookit, We Have Crazy Women Speakers, Also Too

One question I've asked several times over the past few days is where are all the women of CPAC? There are only a few showing up in pictures I've seen, and even fewer on the stage. So today should be a relief except that the two women on the docket are Ann Coulter and Sarah Palin, who was actually banned from last year's CPAC, just like Chris Christie. What a difference a year makes! Oh wait . . . it's still the same old #GOP after all.

LA Times: The CPAC Gender Gap
. . . the CPAC mobile app listed 163 speakers and panelists. Men outnumber women by far.
The breakdown: 128 men (78%) vs 35 (21%) women. That’s a 57% gender gap, people. If Republicans have any hope of stopping the Democrats' blockbuster narrative that they are waging a war on women, they must first solve their own war of attrition on women.
. . . Even a writer on the conservative website, Breitbart.com, was brutal: “CPAC could have invited South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley or New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez," wrote Mary Chastain. "These women are not only in a position of power, but they are also minorities. Martinez can reach out to women and the Latino vote, which leans to the left. They did not even bring in Condoleezza Rice … she is respected on both sides of the aisle. CPAC also left out Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer.”

Jim DeMint Pushes Vaginal Probe "Opportunities"

Jim DeMint: Cases like the Philadelphia abortionist that shows the horrendous conditions in these clinics that have actually killed women -- I mean, if we're talking about women 's health, we need to consider that. But now two-thirds of americans believe that after a baby's heart is beating and they can feel pain that they need some protection. So I'm glad to see a lot of states like Texas and Arkansas begin to consider this. and the more the ultrasounds have become part of the law where a woman gets the opportunity to see that there's a real child, it's beginning to change minds. and i think that's a good thing. it's time that the 3,000 babies we lose every day have some people speaking um for them.

Rachel Maddow: Women don’t ‘get the opportunity’ with ultrasound, the ultrasound bills are mandated by the state. So if a woman does not want an ultrasound, or if her doctor does not want her to have an ultrasound, if an ultrasound is not medically indicated, the state government is stepping in and saying: ‘You must have this ultrasound by order of the state government.’ In a lot of these what is being mandated is a vaginal ultrasound, so it’s an invasive, vaginal, forced procedure that a woman cannot say ‘no’ to by order of the state government. And that is all right with you. I understand that you feel that you've got an interest strong enough to override a woman’s desire to not have that happen to her, that you can insist that it does as a legislator. But most American women, I think, are going to balk at that. And if you want to make it a federal issue, I’d say that the Democrats are going to be delighted to have that fight. As Republicans push this further and further and further, it's the Wendy Davises of the world who are going to force you to make your arguments

Rick Perry's statement is without dignity and tarnishes the high office he holds. They are small words that reflect a dark and negative point of view. Our governor should reflect our Texas values. Sadly, Gov. Perry fails that test.

Rick Perry’s remarks are incredibly condescending and insulting to women. This is exactly why the vast majority of Texans believe that politicians shouldn’t be involved in a woman’s personal health care decisions. Women are perfectly capable of deciding whether to choose adoption, end a pregnancy, or raise a child, and they don’t need Rick Perry’s help making that decision. What the world saw in Texas this week was democracy in action. The people had a voice this week, and we’ll make sure they have a voice in the weeks ahead.
