Our Patriotic Moment Has Come - Trump is Toast

As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to hold a vote on Impeachment this Thursday, and as the so-called President is taunted while watching the Washington Nationals play baseball with chants of "Lock Him Up" from the crowd,as well as by protestors when he visited Chicago today. Have we reached our patriotic turn of the tide at last in this country? Dare we hope that this is the beginning of the end of Trump's reign of insanity?

Is this like the moment in Casablanca when Lazslo tells the band to play Le Marseillaise?

Democrats Hold Sit-In on Gun Control

The Democrats in Congress held a "sit-in" protest last week on the literal floor of the House of Representatives after Speaker Paul Ryan refused to allow a vote on gun control after the horrendous Orlando shooting. What they wanted was a way to keep terrorists on the no-fly list from buying assault weapons - something that seems like a no-brainer to a majority of Americans.

But Speaker Ryan called the protest a "publicity stunt" - never mind that he is the king of the Fake Charity Publicity Stunt, or that his own party has wasted time with Tea Party Shutdown and the silly Ted Cruz filibuster of Obamacare.

No, this protest was the real deal. When Paul Ryan attempted to shut it down by turning off the C-Span cameras, the Dems started filming the proceedings with their own phones and broadcasting to the world with the Periscope app. Almost immediately, C-Span picked up the Periscope feed and used it instead of the regular camera feed from Congress, completely bypassing Paul Ryan and making history.

While the sit-in ended with no legislation, the protest gave hope to the families of victims that eventually the logjam caused by threats from the NRA towards GOP politicians will fail.

From Reuters
“Eventually this problem will get addressed again one of two ways: We find a breakthrough, which I will seek, or there will be another terrorist attack which will bring us right back to this issue. I hope we can do it without another terrorist attack,” said Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican who supported Collins.
A few hours earlier, Democratic lawmakers ended a sit-in protest in the House of Representatives over guns.
Fueled by Chinese food and pizzas, dozens of them stayed on the House floor all night, at times bursting into the civil rights anthem "We Shall Overcome" before giving up their protest after 25 hours.
"It's not a struggle that lasts for one day, or one week, or one month, or one year," said Representative John Lewis, a Democrat from Georgia and a key figure in the civil rights protests of the 1960s. "We're going to win the struggle," said Lewis, who led the House sit-in.

GOP Desperately Seeking a House Speaker

All Over and Not Crying ~ John Boehner Resigns

_______________________

Speaker of the House John Boehner resigned after the Pope visited Washington and the result has been utter chaos among Republicans. The heir-apparent to Boehner was supposed to be Kevin McCarthy, but he made the mistake of being really honest (a rarity in Congress) and admitted they targeted Hillary Clinton with the Benghazi Committee:

Also a smear campaign was happening on social media saying he committed adultery with married Congresswoman Renee Ellmers of North Carolina.

Last week McCarthy realized he didn't have the votes to become Speaker and decided to pull his name in a surprise announcement. Congress and the beltway press were shocked! SHOCKED!

The Presidential Candidates React:

Then in a complete show of madness, people started asking Paul Ryan to step up and become Speaker. In response, he acted as though they had tossed him a radioactive hand grenade. He said he would think about it over the weekend - we'll see what Monday brings.

Here's what's happening in the Stupid Party:

From Business Insider
Confusion reigned across the party. One Republican aide told Business Insider on Thursday, "I honestly have no idea" of the caucus' next move. Another echoed that sentiment. Yet another had similar thoughts, though the aide simply sent Business Insider the emoticon commonly referred to as a "shruggie," that signals a shrug: "¯\_(ツ)_/¯"
"Thunderdome," Erick Erickson, a prominent conservative activist and the editor in chief of the site RedState, told Business Insider.

From Addicting Info:
Currently, a small faction of Tea Party extremists in Congress is wreaking havoc and chaos at every possible turn. These 40 republican politicians, all members of the House Freedom Caucus, have decided to hold their fellow Republicans, and likely the entire country, hostage to their fanatical demands. Every seemingly-sane member of Congress has been targeted by these far-right nuts, who have absolutely no clue how to govern.
This is the group that orchestrated the resignation of House Speaker John Boehner. They went after Republican colleagues, Renee Ellmers and Kevin McCarthy, when it looked as if McCarthy had a good chance of becoming the next speaker.
Sane conservatives, scrambling to save the party from a now inevitable implosion, have been begging Paul Ryan to put in a bid for speaker. Although Ryan has repeatedly said that he is not going to run, far right extremists are now attacking him, apparently just for being mentioned as a possibility.

All Over and Not Crying ~ John Boehner Resigns

GOP Seeks New Oompa-Loompa to Replace Boehner

The day after the Pope visited Congress, John Boehner turned in his resignation as Speaker of the House. And he suddenly looked like a huge weight had been lifted from his shoulders, striding in to his press conference singing "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah."

What happens now? The far-right conservative jackals such as Ted Cruz are thrilled because they have called Boehner a "traitor" and "RINO" for making deals with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. But let's see if the monstrous Tea Party can do any better without Boehner to kick around anymore. Probably not.

From CNN:

Boehner had wanted to end his run last year, but was concerned about destabilizing the House Republican caucus. He was ready to announce his resignation on his birthday this November. But Friday, one day after the emotional, historic visit by Pope Francis to Capitol Hill, Boehner found his moment.
"I decided today is the day I'm going to do this, simple as that," Boehner said at a Capitol Hill press conference, saying his decision came after a night of sleep and prayers.
. . . The timing may have been right for Boehner -- but it stunned the House GOP Conference Friday morning, which had been meeting to discuss a way forward on funding legislation. Boehner made the announcement -- and choked up. Others did too.
"A lot of grown men and women were crying, especially those who know him the most," said Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-New York.

From New York Times
Of course Boehner couldn’t last: He’s an adult. And as Donald Trump’s perverse currency and a Republican nominating contest that’s often indistinguishable from a temper tantrum demonstrate, the qualities of maturity, steadiness and prudence aren’t in especially big favor right now with an animated, engaged and frighteningly influential segment of the Republican electorate.
. . . “He’s somebody who understands that in government — in governance — you don’t get 100 percent of what you want,” President Obama said on Friday at the White House, reflecting on the fresh news that Boehner was leaving. “But you have to work with people who you disagree with, sometimes strongly, in order to do the people’s business.” Obama and Boehner were hardly a study in “Kumbaya” cooperation, but Obama seemed to sense that the song sung by whoever follows Boehner will be sourer and more strident.
Brace for it.

From The Hill
A fired-up House Ethics Committee Chairman Charlie Dent (R-Pa.), speaking not long after Boehner dropped the bombshell at a Friday conference meeting that he’ll leave Congress at the end of next month, ripped into hard-line conservatives.
He accused them of opposing Boehner at every turn, and noted they have “never had a horse of their own.”
“Any jackass can kick down a barn door. It takes a carpenter to hang one. We need a few more carpenters around here. Everybody knows it,” Dent said off the House floor.
Leadership allies are frustrated by what they see as a repeated exercise in futility.
They argue that the lawmakers who repeatedly tangled with Boehner aren’t team players, and they said a new leadership team shouldn’t cater to them.

Let's enjoy all the tears of impotent rage over "Lame Duck" Obama's huge world victory in getting the Iran Deal to move forward with help from the Dems, who blocked last minute maneuvers, and in spite of the Religious Nuts, Bibi Netanyahu, and Prophets of Doom like Glenn Beck. Call a Waaaahmbulance!

From USAToday
Senators voted 58-42 to bring to the floor a resolution disapproving the deal. That was two votes short of the 60 votes Republican leaders needed to advance the bill.

The Democrats' action spares Obama from having to veto any legislation and leaves the Iran agreement intact, though Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said he may bring the bill back for another vote next week.

Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Democratic Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., predicted that the outcome would not change if McConnell tries again.

"You can call (a vote) ten more times and you’ll get the same result," Durbin said.

Under legislation passed by Congress in May, the deal will take effect unless both the House and Senate vote for a resolution of disapproval by Sept. 17.

President Obama said he was heartened by the vote.

"The Senate took an historic step forward and voted to enable the United States to work with our international partners to enable the implementation of the comprehensive, long-term deal that will prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon," Obama said in a statement. "This vote is a victory for diplomacy, for American national security, and for the safety and security of the world."

Dumkopf Steve King Slams American Jews

 photo steve_king.jpg

Dumkopf Steve King of Iowa is an expert on Jews now. Like criminal cowman Cliven Bundy, who wanted to "tell us something about The Negro," King wants to "Tell us something about The Jew in 'Merica." Because he's such an expert on that, right? I guess his pal Michele Bachmann 'splained it all to him because she is a Biblical scholar. Not.

From Talking Points Memo
King's initial comments came after Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu delivered a speech to members of Congress, which many Democrats skipped. King says skipping the speech showed they're "knee-jerk" supporters of Obama.
"It says this, they're knee-jerk supporters of the President's policy," King said. "The President's policies throughout the Middle East have been a disaster. I would say to them, 'Name a country with which we have better relations today than we had when Barack Obama took office.' And I gave that in speeches for about six weeks until some lag stood up and said, 'I can name you two, they are Cuba and Iran.'"

From Washington Post
“Here is what I don’t understand, I don’t understand how Jews in America can be Democrats first and Jewish second and support Israel along the line of just following their president,” he said. That analysis came during a conversation about the more than 50 congressional Democrats who skipped Benjamin Netanyahu’s Capitol Hill speech in early March.

Rep. Steve Israel of New York didn't care for King's appraisal of American Jews:

From Crooks and Liars
Rep. Israel then took that same complaint to CNN's State of the Union, where he ripped King for those comments. After first noting that he escorted Bibi Netanyahu in and out of the Congressional chamber when Netanyahu addressed Congress, he let King have it.
"I really do not need lessons from people like Steve King on what it is to be Jewish, or a Democrat." Israel continued, "You know, Steve King, who said America is a Christian nation, should not be lecturing Jews on how we should be Jewish."
Israel also went on to point out that King lecturing Jews on how to be Jewish is chutzpah.

King then slammed Steve Israel on Twitter:

The Resignation of Aaron Schock

 photo aarons2.jpg

Congressman Aaron Schock R-Illinois has resigned from the House of Representatives. This comes just a few weeks after Washington Post writer Ben Terris wrote a story about Schock's Congressional Office, which was lavishly decorated to resemble the sitting room on the show Downton Abbey. Terris showed up and was given a tour by the designer herself, and that should have been the end of it. But Rep. Schock himself refused to talk about the decor, and that raised red flags, then his communications director got all huffy about the tour. Terris wrote the story anyway and it went viral.

From Ben Terris, Washington Post
A blond woman popped out of an inner office. “Want to see the rest?” she asked.

She introduced herself as Annie Brahler, the interior decorator whose company is called Euro Trash. She guided me to Schock’s private office, revealing another dramatic red room. This one with a drippy crystal chandelier, a table propped up by two eagles, a bust of Abraham Lincoln and massive arrangements of pheasant feathers.

Then, my phone rang.

It was Schock’s communications director, Benjamin Cole.

“Are you taking pictures of the office?” he asked. “Who told you you could do that? . . . Okay, stay where you are. You’ve created a bit of a crisis in the office.”

A staff member then came and asked me to please delete the photos from my phone. So started a day of back-and-forths with a congressman’s office about interior design.

 photo settee.jpg

After the story was picked up by all the national media, reporters began to find anomalies in his other expenditures, including reported mileage reimbursements on his cars, and asking about his political donors. Schock couldn't stand the heat in Downton Abbey's (I mean Washingon's) below-stairs kitchen, so he quickly got out.

From Politico
llinois Rep. Aaron Schock resigned Tuesday, less than 12 hours after POLITICO raised questions about tens of thousands of dollars in mileage reimbursements he received for his personal vehicle.
Schock billed the federal government and his campaign for logging roughly 170,000 miles on his personal car from January 2010 through July 2014. But when he sold that Chevrolet Tahoe in July 2014, it had roughly 80,000 miles on the odometer, according to public records obtained by POLITICO under Illinois open records laws. The documents, in other words, indicate he was reimbursed for 90,000 miles more than his car was driven.
. . . Schock’s resignation marks a swift downfall of one of the GOP’s most promising young stars and prolific fundraisers. The former state legislator was elected to Congress in 2008 and shot through the ranks of the House GOP, at one point gracing the cover of Men’s Health magazine. He was a fresh face in a party eager to update its image.
But as his prominence grew, Schock adopted an expensive lifestyle — staying in luxury hotels, dining at pricey restaurants, flying on private jets. Mounting questions about how he paid for it eventually caught up with him.

From Yahoo
. . .In a statement confirming his resignation, Schock said that “the constant questions over the last six weeks have proven a great distraction that has made it too difficult for me to serve the people of the 18th District with the high standards that they deserve and which I have set for myself. I have always sought to do what’s best for my constituents and I thank them for the opportunity to serve.”
Those “constant questions” all started with a February story on the Washington Post’s website that, at first, seemed like little more than a quirky anecdote. But upon closer inspection, the story raised eyebrows and, as Schock mentioned, real questions. Lots of them.
Washington Post reporter Ben Terris went to interview Schock at his office last month and found himself surrounded by deep-red walls, gold wall sconces, and pheasant feathers. The room's ornate decor had been based on that of the set of the popular PBS period drama, “Downton Abbey,” a woman who turned out to be Schock’s decorator told Terris.

Washington Post: "The self-destructive mania of Rep. Aaron Schock"
. . . Schock’s choice of that vibrant color underscored his lifelong determination to go big and brash. According to a review of newspaper clippings going back to when he was a teenager in Peoria, Ill., Schock always pushed for more, more, more — and to be the youngest to ever have it.
It’s a characteristic that propelled Schock to be the youngest school board member, the youngest Illinois state legislator, one of the youngest members of Congress. It pushed him to work out so hard it looked painful, to clog his Instagram profile with action-star theatrics, to get into business hot and early because that’s what Aaron Schock does. He wins. He takes risks. He’s bold, like his bright-red office.
. . . But looking back at Schock’s history, his preternatural drive is unsettling, even for a politician. Schock didn’t want two phone lines. He wanted six. He didn’t want one credit card in middle school. He wanted 13. He wasn’t satisfied graduating high school in four years. He didn’t want to just sit on the school board — he wanted to be its president. He wanted to be the youngest everything. Health wasn’t enough. He needed a six-pack. He didn’t want his office to be beige. He wanted it red.

Bibi Netanyahu Comes to Congress, Tries to Take Over

Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, spoke to the Congress of the United States the other day, urging them to bomb Iran and to stop Obama from seeking diplomatic solutions to problems.

He's a warmonger who wants us to get rid of the Arabs and Persians and only be allies with Israel. He wanted the same thing before the Iraq war, and that didn't work out too well for either the U.S. or the Middle East. So why should we listen to him now?

From Ynet News
CNN's chief international correspondent dubbed Netanyahu's performance on Capitol Hill "a very dark Strangelovian speech" while Fox News flattered the Israeli prime minister. But the most amusing commentary – and likely the most widely watched – belonged to Daily Show host Jon Stewart.
With his trademark frustration, Stewart blasted Netanyahu for claiming to speak for the entire Jewish people ahead of "festival of slights" to celebrate the "sacred Jewish holiday of Suck-on-it."
"The truth is no one can speak for all Jews for we are a varied and heterodoxical people... We like to argue," said Stewart a few hours after Netanyahu's speech.
. . . Top CNN correspondent Christiane Amanpour said that Netanyahu's address "was a very dark Strangelovian speech painting the picture of a dystopian world, raising the specter of a genocidal nation, a genocidal regime spraying nuclear weapons to annihilate the whole world and the whole region. Now, obviously many people are very concerned about Iran and there is a deep lack of trust, but surely the same was said of the Soviet Union all those years ago.

Chris Matthews of MSNBC called the speech a "takeover" of our foreign policy, and opened up a can of whoop-ass on Bibi.

Via Raw Story
“I’ll get to the heart of this speech now,” Matthews told MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts. “This man from a foreign government walked into the United States legislative chamber and tried to take over U.S. foreign policy. He said, ‘You should trust me, not your president on this. I am the man you should trust, I am your true leader on this question of U.S. geopolitics. To protect yourself, you must listen to me and not this president.’”

“It was a startling situation,” . . . “To allow someone to come in — knowing that was going to be their message — to the U.S. Congress. This was a decision made by Boehner and certainly complied with by Netanyahu and his ambassador [Ron Dermer]. They went into the U.S. Congress to take over U.S. foreign policy from the president.”

“Think it through, what country in the world would let a foreign leader come in and attempt to wrest from the president control of the U.S. foreign policy?” Matthews asked.

“This was a takeover attempt by Netanyahu with this complying America partners to take American foreign policy out of the hands of the president.”
