This may be the beginning of the end for Bernie Sanders in New York.

Last night while having a rally in New York City, his far-left spokesperson Dr. Paul Y. Song referred to "status quo" Democrats such as Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and their supporters as "Status Quo . . . Corporatist Democratic Whores," leaving no doubt about his meaning. The remark drew happy cheers from the large crowd in Washington Square, and Bernie thanked the speaker for his words.

Via Blue Nation Review
Now Secretary Clinton has said that Medicare for all will never happen. [boos] Well, I agree with Secretary Clinton that Medicare for all will never happen if we have a president who never aspires for something greater than the status quo. [cheers] Medicare for all will never happen if we continue to elect corporate Democratic whores [cheers] who are beholden to big pharma and the private insurance industry instead of us.”

Bernie issued an apology:

Paul Song issued a non-apology-apology, saying he had been "insensitive." This didn't occur to him as he was writing his speech?

The next day, Paul Song's wife Lisa Ling wrote an apology on Facebook. She is a Hillary supporter:
Regret
Lisa Ling·Thursday, April 14, 2016
While my husband and I agree on most issues, we are supporting different candidates in this Democratic primary.
However, I know for certain that he would never refer to ANY woman as a "whore." In calling out "corporate whores," Paul was referring to those in Congress who have accepted money from the healthcare industry and big pharma, thus impacting their votes on legislation. Nevertheless, it was a very poor choice of words and Paul is extremely regretful for using it.
Most importantly, he is mortified that such a word is being associated with Secretary Clinton. And I am too.
As a proud supporter of Hillary Clinton's, I am deeply sorry that this gaffe has generated the attention that it has.

People also pointed out that Song must have forgotten that his wife's family was beholden in the past to the so-called "Corporatist Democratic Whores" who helped his wife's sister escape from North Korea:

Bernie supporters were quick to excuse the brouhaha as a misunderstanding:

The outcry from the Progressive base was swift, saying the remark was both sexist and insulting:

Palin May Have Finally Jumped the GOP Shark This Time ~ Updated

Sarah Palin made a speech at the Iowa Freedom Summit, and once again it was weird wacky word salad, which is really just the same old, same old for we long-time Palin-watchers.

But this time even Conservatives are going "huh?" to some of her statements. The concensus after this rambling and rather disturbing speech is that Sarah has finally jumped the shark, even among her most staunchly stupid fans.

And basically the GOP is telling her to go away and let other candidates run in 2016.

But just like Frankenstein's Monster, Palin does whatever she wants to do! So she will continue to be the unwanted Elephant in the Room.

What shocked the churchly crowd at the Iowa Summit was her vulgar imagery. Family Values, folks!

From New York Daily News
“'The man can only ride you when your back is bent,” Palin said — one in a series of unusual one-liners she ad libbed after her teleprompter froze. “So strengthen it! Then the man can't ride you, America won't get taken for a ride, because so much is at stake.”

“What will they do to stop causing our pain and start feeling it again” she said in a short rant over Obamacare. “Well, in other words, um — Is Hillary a new Democrat or an old one?”

“Now the press asks, the press asks, ‘Can anyone stop Hillary?’ Again, this is to forego a conclusion, right? It's to scare us off, to convince us that — a pantsuit can crush patriots,” she added.

At another point, she yelled, “Screw the left in Hollywood” — an apparent jab at critics of the movie “American Sniper,” which some liberals have claimed glamorizes war.

Full Speech:

An impatient president doesn’t just get to trample our Constitution and ignore Congress just because he doesn’t get exactly what he wants every time he wants it,” Palin said. “It’s like an overgrown little boy who’s just acting kind of spoiled. And moms, we don’t put up with that, do we?
~ Sarah Palin Via MSNBC

Update: She was skewered by Jon Stewart of Comedy Central:

Ohhhhhhhh! The Freedom Summit, the Peak! All downhill from the summit!
. . . Ladies and gentlemen, it may be the rare, brown-haired Alaskan podium-seeker!
. . . It was all going fine until her subjects stopped talking to her verbs... Man, that's the kind of talk you hear in the drugstore just before the pharmacist says 'Ma'am, you got to leave the Walgreens.' Now we know what it's like to get cornered by Ms. Palin at an open-bar wedding. Um, listen - this Iowa Freedom Summit speech wasn't just regular-person incoherent. It was Palin-incoherent. Apparently, Gov. Palin had been forced to improvise after her teleprompter broke. But I got to tell ya - it's not that different from her on-script. Sarah Palin doesn't believe in your liberal-elitist 'grammar' and 'syntax.' She be bold! She no play by your 'ribbles' - that's what she calls rules. That's when it hit me - incoherent, rambling, unintelligible, folksy idioms. She's not speaking at a political event. Sarah Palin is trying to sell America a Lincoln (shows clip of Matthew McConaughey driving Lincoln car in commercial - switches to Palin spouting nonsense in backseat of car, LOL).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another Update! Sam Seder on Majority Report:
Transcript from Speech: On Sexism and Racism:
Palin: Knowing what the media is going to do throughout 2016 to all of us, it’s going to take more than a village to beat Hillary! (crowd cheers, Palin giggles as chants of "Sarah! Sarah!" rise up.)
Here's how we do it, okay? (takes a drink of water from a bottle, crowd laughs). We go on offense! We go on offense now and we expect our GOP leaders in DC to get on offense, because we, the people, we realize that this is war - as I say it is war for the solvency and sovereignty of the United States of America.
And we don’t sit on our thumbs this next time when one of our own is being crucified and falsely accused of whatever the hip accusation of the day happens to be, right, racism, sexism, whatever. Really it’s kinda Orwellian observing how that works, that rule of Saul Alinsky’s, no doubt, that the left employs, disgusting charges from the left.
Reverse them! It is they who point a finger not realizing that they have triple that amount of fingers pointing right back at them revealing that they are the ones who really discriminate and divide on color and class and sex! We call them out. We don’t let them get away with it. (crowd claps)
On Gender - oh, man, this one - on Gender. It is they who defeat women, they shackle them to the good old boys running Washington, pimping this promise that they have to provide for the little ladies’ every need, because ‘there, there, a woman, she's just not capable.’ It's the Left that does that. It isn't the Right, it isn't Conservatives. So we go on offense and reveal the real war on women with truth, because we can handle the truth!”
On Saturday evening following Palin's speech, the DNC issued a short statement responding to her speech.
"Thank you!" DNC Communications Director Mo Elleithee said in the statement.
~ Huffington Post
Update 2: Dems are using Palin's speech to raise money for Hillary!
From Huffington Post
The group, Ready For Hillary, used comments about Clinton that Palin made over the weekend in Iowa to raise more than $25,000.
"It's going to take more than a village to beat Hillary," Palin said on Saturday. "I'm ready for Hillary. Are you coming?"
Ready For Hillary immediately seized on the comments and emailed supporters, asking them to donate. On Tuesday evening, the group emailed supporters again, announcing that the super PAC had raised more than $25,000 as a result of Palin's comments -- enough to qualify the former GOP candidate for vice president to be a co-chair of Ready for Hillary.
. . . more than a few GOP loyalists came away shaking their heads at the performance of a party star, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, whose long, rambling, and at times barely coherent speech left some wondering what role she should play in Republican politics as the 2016 race begins in earnest.
~ Byron York, Washington Examiner
Nicole Wallace of MSNBC, who was a handler of Sarah Palin during her ill-fated Vice Presidential run in 2008 with John McCain, pointed out that Byron York was once a Sarah Palin fanboy, but now he's apparently come to his senses:
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Byron York writes about what he calls the GOP's Palin problem. He quotes conservative activists who called the speech long and disjointed, weird, and terrible, adding it didn't make any sense. York also quotes Craig Robinson of the Iowa Republican blog who writes in part, "I'm not comfortable sharing everything I heard about the speech. It was that bad. No offense to Governor Palin, but I do think it is problematic to have someone give a speech like that in the middle of a string of serious speeches by people who are seriously thinking about running for president.
BRZEZINSKI: Obviously, Nicole, I would think you would have more insight than anyone. What do you think when you're watching this?
NICOLLE WALLACE: Well, it's interesting that Byron York came to that conclusion. In 2008 he was one of her staunchest defenders. I remember being on the cell phone with him; he was one of the harshest critics of the campaign's handling of her. I think he really thought the problem with Palin was in our packaging of Palin and to see him kind of come full circle. I mean, this is who she is. This to me is evidence that she has finally shed every last one of those annoying handlers.
#Snowden Jumps the Shark With NBC Interview - Updated
 photo 1ce2d5f3-0268-47c4-87af-aa5a74395f9b.png
Brian Williams of NBC is the first major network news person to interview Edward Snowden in Moscow. Reviews are mixed so far, but I think it's safe to say that a wider audience isn't going to work out too well for the ultra-spy-in-exile. The more he talks the deeper the hole, so to speak. As this interview was obviously timed to coincide with the release of Glenn Greenwald's book about Snowden, it may not have the boost in sales that they were looking for.
Snowden seems to be jumping the shark, although I'm sure the Libertarian Wikileaks Anonymous crowd will swoon over his sexy snake-oil voice and geek-martyr persona.
. . . when they say I’m a low-level systems administrator, that I don’t know what I’m talking about, I’d say it’s somewhat misleading.
~~~~~~~
I was trained as a spy in sort of the traditional sense of the word, in that I lived and worked undercover overseas, pretending to work in a job that I'm not, and even being assigned a name that was not mine.
But I am a technical specialist. I am a technical expert. I don't work with people. I don't recruit agents. What I do is I put systems to work for the United States. And I've done that at all levels from, from the bottom on the ground all the way to the top. Now, the government might deny these things, they might frame it in certain ways and say, "Oh well, you know, he's -- he's a low level analyst."
~~~~~~~
I think it's important to remember that people don't set their lives on fire. They don't walk away from their extraordinarily, extraordinarily comfortable lives for no reason.
~~~~~~~
I think the most important idea is to remember that there are times throughout American history where what is right is not the same as what is legal. Sometimes to do the right thing you have to break the law.
~~~~~~~
I have no relationship with the Russian government at all. I've never met the Russian President. I'm not supported by the Russian government. I'm not taking money from the Russian government. I'm not a spy.
I personally am surprised that I ended up here. The reality is I never intended to end up in Russia. I had a flight booked to Cuba onwards to Latin America, and I was stopped because the United States government decided to revoke my passport and trap me in the Moscow airport.
~~~~~~~
If I could go anywhere in the world, that place would be home.

UPDATE: One part of the interview has been debunked today by the NSA:

From the Interview:
Snowden: I actually did go through channels, and that is documented. The NSA has records, they have copies of emails right now to their Office of General Counsel, to their oversight and compliance folks from me raising concerns about the NSA’s interpretations of it – legal authorities. I reported that there were real problems with the way the NSA was interpreting its legal authorities. And I went even further in this, to say that they could be unconstitutional, that they were sort of abrogating our model of government in a way that empowered presidents to override our statutory laws. And this was made very clear. And the response was, more or less, in bureaucratic language, was, ‘You should stop asking questions.’

The U.S. Government Replied today by releasing one email exchange from Snowden, which they say is the only one received asking questions of the General Counsel to the NSA:
Read Snowden's Email and NSA Reply Here

From ABC News:
The NSA said in statement that Snowden’s email “did not raise allegations or concerns about wrongdoing or abuse, but posed a legal question that the Office of General Counsel addressed.”
“There was no additional follow-up noted,” the NSA said. “There are numerous avenues that Mr. Snowden could have used to raise other concerns or whistleblower allegations. We have searched for additional indications of outreach from him in those areas and to date have not discovered any engagements related to his claims.”
Snowden told NBC News that he also raised his concerns with his co-workers and superiors, many of whom he said were “shocked” at the programs he described. In December 2013, Snowden similarly told The Washington Post he brought his misgivings to four supervisors in two departments.
“I asked these people, ‘What do you think the public would do if this was on the front page?’” Snowden told the Post. “How is that not reporting it? How is that not raising it?”
In the Washington Post report, an NSA spokesperson said the agency had not found “any evidence” to support Snowden’s claims about raising concerns internally. Then, the NSA did not note the email it published online today.

GOP Hack Bob Woodward Self-Destructs While Jumping the Shark ~ UPDATED with Debunkery

Snark Amendment: Republican Hack Bob Woodward Blames Obama for the Sequester

UPDATES:

The full text of the e-mail exchange has been leaked and is available at Politico. Word for word, it is loyal to Woodward’s recitation. But its tone is toothless. Sperling closes this way: “My apologies again for raising my voice on the call with you. Feel bad about that and truly apologize.” Woodward pings back: “Gene: You do not ever have to apologize to me. You get wound up because you are making your points and you believe them.”
So much for the White House “threatening” Woodward, as the Internet would have us believe. Nor does the you-will-regret-this language look like part of a communications policy on part of the White House. It looks like a reporter and a source disagreeing on some really tedious, really important policy points.
~ Eric Wemple on Washington Post

Bob Woodward trolled us (and we got played)
Bob Woodward revealed that White House official had warned him he would “regret” saying Obama had moved the goal posts on sequestration.
Predictably, conservatives latched onto this, as it confirmed our suspicion about the Obama Administration’s “Chicago-style” of politics. A lot of mainstream journalists bought into this, too — reflexively believing anything the great Bob Woodward says.
Of course, Woodward (who was expert at trolling for publicity before the internet even existed), benefits greatly from the publicity (nothing sells books like controversy).
But today, things look different. P0litico has posted the exclusive email from Gene Sperling to Woodward. It begins, “I apologize for raising my voice in our conversation today.”
(Frightening, I know!)
~ Daily Caller

~~~~~~~~~~~~Original Post Below~~~~~~~~~~~~
From Business Insider
The Washington Post's Bob Woodward ripped into President Barack Obama on "Morning Joe" today, saying he's exhibiting a "kind of madness I haven't seen in a long time" for a decision not to deploy an aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf because of budget concerns.
"Can you imagine Ronald Reagan sitting there and saying, 'Oh, by the way, I can't do this because of some budget document?'" Woodward said.
"Or George W. Bush saying, 'You know, I'm not going to invade Iraq because I can't get the aircraft carriers I need?'" Or even Bill Clinton saying, 'You know, I'm not going to attack Saddam Hussein's intelligence headquarters,' ... because of some budget document?"
. . . "Under the Constitution, the President is commander-in-chief and employs the force. And so we now have the President going out because of this piece of paper and this agreement. 'I can’t do what I need to do to protect the country,'" Woodward said.
"That’s a kind of madness that I haven't seen in a long time," he said.
CNN Transcript Wed. 2-27-2013, Woodward and Wolf Blitzer
BLITZER: It's getting pretty nasty. Take us behind the scenes a little bit. The allegations being hurled against you right now.
WOODWARD: Well, I mean...
BLITZER: You're used to this kind of stuff, but...
WOODWARD: I am.
BLITZER: ... share with our viewers what's going on between you and the White House.
WOODWARD: Well, they're -- they're not happy at all, and some people kind of, you know, said, "Look, we don't see eye to eye on this."
They never really said, though, afterwards -- they've said that this is factually wrong, and they -- and it was said to me in an e- mail by a top...
BLITZER: What was -- what was said?
WOODWARD: It was -- it was said very clearly, "You will regret doing this."
BLITZER: Who sent that e-mail to you?
WOODWARD: Well, I'm not going to say.
BLITZER: Was it a senior person at the White House?
WOODWARD: A very senior person. And just as a matter -- I mean, it makes me very uncomfortable to have the White House telling reporters, "You're going to regret doing something that you believe in, and even though we don't look at it that way, you do look at it that way."
And it's, I think if Barack Obama knew that was part of the communication's strategy -- let's hope it's not a strategy, that it's a tactic that somebody's employed -- and said, look, we don't go around trying to say to reporters, "If you, in an honest way, present something we don't like, that, you know, you're going to regret this." And just -- it's Mickey Mouse.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The White House official whom Bob Woodward charged had crosssed a line by saying he would "regret" printing his version of a set of Washington negotiations was Gene Sperling, the director of the White House Economic Council, a source familiar with the exchange told BuzzFeed Wednesday.
. . . The aide "yelled at me for about a half hour," Woodward said, and then sent a follow-up email that read, in part: "You're focusing on a few specific trees that give a very wrong impression of the forest. But perhaps we will just not see eye to eye here. … I think you will regret staking out that claim."
Officials often threaten reporters that they will "regret" printing something that is untrue, but Woodward took the remark as a threat.
~ Ben Smith on Buzzfeed

Sperling wasn't even saying that Woodward would "regret" publishing whatever he planned to publish because Sperling would get him back for it later. He was saying Woodward would regret it because Woodward would be proven wrong.
~ Henry Blodget on Business Insider

Inside the Woodward Fainting Couch!
So was Sperling threatening to sic the black helicopters on Woodward and like fully take him out? The blog and twitter-hordes of the right think so. And they’re circling round Woodward tonight in a glorious defense.
The White House denies it. A White House official tells us: “Of course no threat was intended. As Mr. Woodward noted, the email from the aide was sent to apologize for voices being raised in their previous conversation. The note suggested that Mr. Woodward would regret the observation he made regarding the sequester because that observation was inaccurate, nothing more. And Mr. Woodward responded to this aide’s email in a friendly manner.”
~ Josh Marshall on Talking Points Memo

Bob Woodward is officially shaming himself trying to prove that the sequester standoff is President Obama’s fault. First he blamed Obama for the failed debt ceiling deal of July 2011, proclaiming in his incredibly biased book: “[P]residents work their will—or should work their will—on the important matters of national business. Obama has not.” How the president could have worked his will on the crackpot Tea Party GOP caucus, he doesn’t say.
. . . Now he’s claiming the president alone has the power to avert disaster by ignoring the sequester, particularly its steep defense cuts, and doing … I don’t know what.
. . . There is madness afoot here, but it’s Woodward’s.
~ Joan Walsh on Salon
