Jeff Sessions Can't Handle the Truth

Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, Confederate Attorney General of the United States of Trump, had trouble speaking the truth last week before the Senate Intelligence Committee. He insisted that he did nothing wrong while making numerous contacts with Russians - most of whom he said he couldn't remember - during the Trump campaign for President, even though he has recused himself from the investigation about Russian interference in the election, which would seem to imply some kind of guilt.

The Trump White House said the President was NOT claiming Executive Privilege to keep Sessions silent, and Sessions agreed. But then he waffled continuously on answers about his discussions with Trump for no apparent legal reason, infuriating some Senators who just want the truth to come out.

He also had the gall to tell Senator Kamala Harris of California that she made him "nervous," which raised eyebrows since she is a person of color and he has been known to pal around with the racist Alt-Right crowd. None of the white men on the Committee made him "nervous."

Revelations of Comey Day

Ex-FBI Director James Comey made his much-anticipated appearance on Capital Hill in Washington last week, appearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Oh what a day it was!

His opening statement had been released the day before so the Senators had time to think up some interesting questions, and Comey had a chance to share his encounters with President Donald Trump just before he was fired.

Why did Comey choose to speak publicly? He was afraid the President would spin things differently than the truth - in other words, he called the President a liar. More than once.

Angry Nation Ponders Eric Garner Non-Verdict from New York Grand Jury

There are really no words - or breath left to speak words - after the non-decision of a New York Grand Jury in the tragic death of Eric Garner, who was killed by a cop while in a stranglehold on a public sidewalk. The whole thing was caught on film from the first interaction to his dying breath, yet to the bafflement of the world, no indictment against the cop was brought by the Grand Jury. Once again a prosecutor chose to protect law enforcement instead of enforcing the law.

And it's been another sad day for our country as we grieve another senseless death at the hands of the police, the death of a man who was selling cigarettes on the city streets. He wasn't a thug, he wasn't being violent. There was no danger for the cop who killed him. There is no instant death sentence for resisting arrest.

We have to solve this, and soon.

Eric Holder has announced an investigation into the Garner case, as well as in Ferguson for the victim Mike Brown. Until there is some kind of justice and cops are held accountable by somebody somewhere, protests are going to fill the streets of our country. Tonight thousands flooded into the streets from New York to Seattle, and Reverend Al Sharpton has called for a march on Washington on December 13th. It would be nice to have some sense of resolution of all these racially motivated cop shootings by Christmas, but the thin blue line is into protecting itself these days and most politicians don't seem to give a damn.

Grinchy AZ Gov Jan Brewer Denies Dreamer Rights

The Republican governor signed an executive order saying Arizona had no plans to give government benefits, including drivers licenses, to the tens of thousands of young, undocumented immigrants in that state who would be getting work permits and immunity from deportation under President Obama’s new immigration policy.

But while the order sounded harsh, at least one high-ranking Democrat in Arizona quickly threw cold water on it, saying Brewer’s declaration appears to be little more than hot air.

“It doesn’t seem to really do anything,” state Senate Democratic Leader David Schapira told TPM. “I see it as her once again trying to grandstand on the issue of immigration.”

. . . Schapira pointed out that Arizona already had a number of strict immigration laws in place, including one that barred illegal immigrants from getting drivers licenses or state issued identification cards. The law may have already been interpreted to bar any newly immune immigrants from getting those state IDs, Schapira said. That means Brewer’s order effectively carried no weight at all.


After the order was issued, supporters of the program and the DREAM Act took to the streets of Phoenix in protest. Video from Air15 showed the protesters carrying signs and walking down Central Avenue toward the State Capitol.

Denying young people who now can work the opportunity to drive legally, to more comfortably travel from one place to another – to get a job – is just hateful.
. . . The executive order probably wasn't necessary. A press release with a "reminder" about state law most likely would have done the trick, though in a less malicious way.
Issuing an executive order, on the other hand, is a good way to re-emphasize one's venomous feelings toward the Obama administration. And a governor who titles her book "Scorpions for Breakfast" is never lacking for venom.

But if all these kids get an education and a good job, who will she get to mow her lawn for fifty cents an hour? And if they all start contributing and earning and paying taxes, how can she feed them into the state's private prisons? Wouldn't having all these productive young immigrants contributing to society take the wind out of the anti-immigrant bigots' sails? And worst of all, wouldn't helping these innocent kids who've grown up here make Obama look good? No, she can't has did none of that!

Gov. Brewer makes Cruella DeVille look like Mother Teresa. Does she realize how utterly hideous she looks to the rest of the country? I know she's no beauty queen, but her actions make her like Medusa, you know, the creature with snakes for hair.

Governor Scott Mired in Legal Swamp Over Florida Voter Purge

Scott told Cavuto, “The debate’s over... We’ve found individuals that are registered to vote, they don’t have a right to vote, they’re non-citizens, and they voted. I have a job to defend the right of legitimate voters… We’ve been asking for the Dept. of Homeland Security database save for months, and they haven’t given it to us. So this afternoon, …the Florida Secretary of State’s office will be filing a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security to give us that database. We want to have fair, honest elections in our state.”

Cavuto honed in on the lack of support for Scott. “Sixty seven election supervisors in your state won’t resume this purge. So what does that tell you?”

Scott responded, “We have 86 individuals that registered to vote that didn’t have the right to vote. We know 46 of ‘em did. We cannot afford to dilute the rights of citizens their vote.”

Cavuto wasn’t buying it. “Your critics, Governor, say since this purge list, you found not even a dozen who should be voting, 500 others were found to be actual citizens.” He suggested Scott may not be getting “enough bang for the bite.”

“I can understand where you’re coming from,” Cavuto said sympathetically, “But let’s say you’re found to be a citizen, you’re still on that list… you’re in a world of voting hurt?”

Scott answered, “There’s a due process… The Supervisor of Election in the County sends out a letter, you have an opportunity, 30 days to respond, after that, they have to put it in the paper, after that if you don’t respond, and you’re not on the rolls, when you go vote, you have a provisional vote… Not one person has been eliminated from the rolls that has a right to vote.”

Here’s where Cavuto revealed what was likely his biggest concern (and probably that of Fox and the Republican Party) “What alarms me is that even in your state, it seems like a lot of Republicans don’t have your back.” He cited Senator (and potential VP candidate) Marco Rubio's silence as evidence of lack of support.

Scott said, “My job is to enforce the laws.”

Cavuto said, “The ACLU and others predictably say that you’re targeting minorities, this violates the 1965 Voting Rights Act, and that this is setting up bad political news for up badly for you and your party in the fall.”

...“As one would expect with a new program that has not previously been tested against real-world information, your program has critical imperfections, which lead to errors that harm and confuse eligible voters. Especially where the program is based on information collected sometimes years ago from driver’s license applications, the information is often going to be outdated, as a number of persons will subsequently have become citizens and lawfully registered to vote. Your data appear to be faulty in other ways that have resulted in native-born citizens, including a decorated World War II combat veteran, being sent letters demanding that they affirmatively prove their citizenship. We are aware that one county election supervisor who reviewed a state-provided list of over one thousand potentially ineligible voters determined that the list had a significant error rate, and that she advised you that further use of the list would ‘potentially disenfranchise eligible voters based on an inaccurate list.’”…
“This new program is therefore legally unenforceable in the five covered counties in Florida…”

“We are concerned about the inaccuracies in your letter regarding your request to access this program…”

“In short, your claim that the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security have worked in concert to deny Florida access to the SAVE Program is simply wrong,” Perez wrote. “The significant problems you are encountering in administering this new program are of your own creation.”
