Bernie's Endgame Failure

As the 2016 Democratic Primary season winds down, it's obvious that Bernie Sanders has lost his once rather noble narrative.

His surrogates have been a hot mess - Obama critics such as Cornel West and Cenk Uygur - Naderites such as Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon and Michael Moore - and befuddled pundits who have garbled the message such as Nina Turner and Shaun King. There have been several disastrous demonstrations of Bernie-Bro chaos, such as the protest at a Clinton rally in California during which children were screamed and cursed at and signs were destroyed, along with the latest debacle at the Nevada State Democratic Convention which ended in police action.

Bernie doesn't seem concerned with uniting the Democratic Party. Instead he is vowing to plow ahead to California, win by miracle or (more likely) lose to Hillary, then somehow persuade the super delegates to flip to him at the Philadelphia convention this summer (and please send money!). He's just doubling down on his campaign spin, and seems to believe every pipe-dream his followers espouse:

Jake Tapper: Now you were making a point about the superdelegates, but what you left out of that data is that while it’s true – you have roughly 46 percent of the pledged delegates, Secretary Clinton has roughly 54 percent of them. It seems unlikely that you’ll actually achieve the majority of the pledged delegates.

Sanders: I assume that most of the people who come to my rallies can do arithmetic!
The point that I was making is there’s something absurd when I get 46 percent of the delegates that come from real contests — real elections, and 7 percent of the superdelegates. I am the stronger candidate because we appeal to independents, people who are not in love with either the Democratic or the Republican Party,”

On Hillary as the "lesser of two evils" compared with Trump:

Sanders insisted there is a “possibility” he could pull ahead of Clinton. He acknowledged this would be improbable and would take multiple major victories among the six states that will vote on June 7. Nevertheless, Sanders vowed to take his “fight” to the party’s nominating convention, which will take place in Philadelphia in late July.
“We have the possibility. It will be a steep climb, I recognize that, but we have the possibility of going to Philadelphia with a majority of the pledged delegates,” Sanders said. “Some people say that we’ve got a steep hill to climb to do that. And you know what? That is absolutely true. But you know what? Together we have been climbing that steep hill from day one in this campaign.”

Yeah, okay - a steep hill to nowhere because Hillary Clinton will win California, and also New Jersey and Washington D.C.

And along comes Campaign Manager Jeff Weaver to refute the Math, which "media narrative" instead of reality:

AUDIE CORNISH: But if he has to win 68 percent of all the delegates going forward, in all the races, and he falls short of that — you know, do you have an obligation to be honest about what his path is?
JEFF WEAVER: Well, no, but see, but that’s a media narrative from people who think that politics is just standing at a board, doing mathematics. But it’s much more than that.

And about that Convention:

CORNISH: So for the record, you are planning to contest the convention?

WEAVER: Well, I think what is going to happen is at the end of the District of Columbia, which is the last jurisdiction to vote in this process - and once that happens, if the senator has substantial momentum, if he has substantially closed the gap in terms of pledged delegates, if the public polling continues to show that he's a much stronger candidate, I think there's a strong argument to be made to superdelegates that they should take another look.
I mean, there are hundreds of superdelegates who support Hillary Clinton who announced their endorsement for her before the race even started, before they even knew Bernie Sanders was in the race. So...

CORNISH: Right, that's why I'm asking. So essentially, you're saying, yeah, if all of these things line up the way you're describing, you want - you're saying that your campaign will - you guys will raise your hand and say, yes, we want to contest this. This is not over.

WEAVER: Right, we'll go there. And, you know, superdelegates don't vote until they actually go to the convention. So let's see where the race stands at the end of the voting process. And then let's see what happens when the superdelegates actually vote in Philadelphia.

But slowly some past Bernie supporters are coming to their senses and realizing Bernie's day is done and we should be focused on Trump.

This week the Twitter hashtag #BernieLostMe trended for several days. And while the faithful keep their spirits up by vowing #BernieOrBust, signs are that the "revolution" may be coming apart at the seams.

Romney Camp in a Ball of Confusion

To Romney: You had an entire week off to listen to the Democrats' arguments against you, to think about how you're going to sell yourself to the public for this homestretch of the campaign. You had a whole week. And what you came up with is "I kinda like Obamacare" and "Paul Ryan has a horrible voting record"? But when you're pressed on those about-faces you're going to deny . . .
. . . Either this is such high-level campaign genius that we just don't understand the complexity of what they are doing here, or they don't have any idea of what they are doing here.

I think the Romney campaign is in a bad stretch. It may or may not last. It may or may not be decisive in the campaign. But they are having a terrible week post the Democratic Convention. . . . Here's the basic problem. Does this man know what it is he believes? Is he willing to stick to it and is he willing to fight for it? Whatever the truth of it is, the perception has been there from the beginning - 'this guy may not know what he wants to do when he gets into the presidency - where he stands.'
These last few days have fueled that anew. If he wins, he wins on jobs and the economy. He can't seem to keep the focus there. And you know you can't win a campaign with more twists than a pretzel factory and expect people not to catch up, not in the present day.
And Rachel I think future historians and politicians and people who cover politics will be looking at this campaign and studying it for a long time to come because the center of gravity has changed with Facebook, Twitter, and the immense amount of coverage through the campaign. There was a time not long ago when you could say one thing to one group of people and another to another group of people and it wouldn't really catch up with you. Those days are gone. Now either the Romney camp doesn't understand that, which could be serious if the campaign goes along, or they're just having a bad few days and they'll refocus....





Romney Surrogate Tara Wall on MSNBC:

JANSING: What are the (tax) loopholes you would close? Will you tell the American people how you’re going to to this better place that you say they have?

WALL: Well, again, the campaign has laid out a number of specifics relative to the principles that will guide the policies of a Romney-Ryan ticket. [...] Again, the specification include policies that are pro-growth in nature, that reduce the deficit, that reduce the burden on taxpayers and small businesses, small businesses number one have been hit hard by a number of regulations that have stifled growth and job creation. And so number one, those are some of the things you have to start with.

JANSING: Well, with all due respect, a pro-growth policy is not specific.

WALL: The other part of that is energy independence. That’s an approach to energy independence that will create millions of jobs. There is a target of 12 million jobs by the Romney-Ryan target. Relative to those loopholes that you mention, I agree that Congressman Ryan pointed out (that) have to be put out in a public debate. But I think, again, we have to look at the overall principles that are going to drive the policies and not ram through policy as we saw with Obamacare.

Romney is seems to be unraveling at this point. He is being forced to stuff every position into the no tax, small government pigeon hole. It doesn't fit. The contortions are painful and illogical. UPDATES: This is one of those rare times when I think Ann is right. This is a turning point. But not the way she thinks. This is a real turning point in the existence for FOX on par with the famous "Seinfeld" episode where Jerry and George let everyone in on the joke behind their show. The difference here is that unlike "Seinfeld." which really was about nothing, little miss panicked partisan and block head just told the world what FOX is really about. Like Seinfeld's ratings, I think it is going to be all down hill from here. This is a point well worth highlighting. When people look back, this will be remembered as the moment when The Great Wizard was revealed by the yapping dog to be nothing but a carnival barker. Sure, they will try and distract people, shouting "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!" in unison. But it will do no good. • That same month, Romney caught himself just after he fired off a warning about the Soviet threat.
“Obama ‘entered into an agreement with the Soviets, excuse me, with Russia’ in the nuclear arms START treaty that effectively required the United States to reduce its weapons stockpile while allowing Russia to increase its stockpile,” Romney said on April 20.

She (Bachmann) needs to be in a mental institution, which we mean 100% seriously and with the utmost concern for her mental health, or she needs to be sued for abuse of power or defamation or whatever legalese doo-da buzzword thing it is. SHE HAS RELEASED A DOCUMENT, friends, outlining how the Muslim Brotherhood has achieved “deep penetration” into the highest levels of the federal government. She points to Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton’s State Department slave and Anthony Weiner’s wife, as an Infiltrator, and how does she even have a security clearance? Michele Bachmann is either mentally insane or too stupid to be allowed on a federal ballot, and the latter would be an extraordinary feat. Why is she allowed to be in Congress?

This guy (President Obama) doesn't understand how to create jobs. So it's no surprise on why he failed so miserably the past four years in terms of job creation. He has no idea how the American system functions. And we shouldn't be surprised about that, because he spent his early years in Hawaii smoking something, spent the next set of years in Indonesia, and frankly when he came to the U.S. he worked as a community organizer which is a socialized structure and then got into politics in Chicago. There has been no experience in his life in which he's earned a private sector paycheck that meant anything.

Once again whatever Rush wants, Rush gets. On his show yesterday, conservative talk show titan Rush Limbaugh angrily said Camp Romney needs to go after Obama on the college-age drug use Obama admitted to in a passage in his biography. So today Romney’s high profile surrogate John Sununu — yew guessed it! – raised the drug issue and also told reporters Obama needs to learn how to be an American.
