President Obama's Epic Ad Lib During State of the Union

 photo B72WzPWIUAAT_t2.jpg

A defiant and proud President Obama gave probably the best one-liner response EVER to GOP hecklers on the night of the State of the Union speech. Call it "shade," a "pwn," a "sick burn," or a "slam-dunk," it was fabulous!

Via Washington Post
"I have no more campaigns to run,” Obama said, to which the Republicans in the audience applauded sarcastically. He came back in the very next beat: “I know, because I won both of them."

Drop the mic!

Joni Ernst and the #BreadBagShoes Meme ~ Updated!

 photo b6154615-e5a1-4d39-938c-c01a9a71159f.png

Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa gave the main GOP response to the President's 2015 State of the Union Address last night. She's the gal who campaigned on the fact that she has castrated hogs on her family farm because apparently that kind of distasteful macho boast appeals to Tea Party wingnuts. Last night I'm sure Ernst hoped to shine on national television, yet she managed to sound as crazy as her cosmic doppelganger, Michele Bachmann. It all comes down to the phrase "Bread Bag Shoes," which is now a hashtag and a meme.

Via Yahoo News
“You see, growing up, I had only one good pair of shoes. So on rainy school days, my mom would slip plastic bread bags over them to keep them dry,” Ernst said. “But I was never embarrassed. Because the school bus would be filled with rows and rows of young Iowans with bread bags slipped over their feet.”

Does anyone really believe this story? I certainly don't. And Ernst manages to sound as if she's just so happy to have busloads of poor children surrounding her in Iowa. But I bet that won't bother her when she votes against financial help for those same children, because that's what Tea Party members do. She is just like Senator Paul Ryan, who touted giving children an empty lunch bag instead of a free lunch. Symbolism and Irony are wasted on these people.

UPDATES:

Someone wrote a song that now has 10,000 hits!

Andy Borowitz put a comedy spin in the New Yorker:

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) shared more folksy stories of her childhood on Wednesday, telling reporters that she used to wear a bucket on her head for no apparent reason.
“I’d be walking outside our house and see a bucket lying there, and I’d say to myself, ‘That’s a perfectly good bucket, I think I’ll put it on my head,’ ” she said. “It wasn’t because I needed a hat or anything. I must have had, oh gosh, a half-dozen hats or so. I just wanted to wear a bucket.”
Ernst said that during her youth, she was known for poking a hole in a large piece of corrugated cardboard and wearing it as a poncho.
“I can’t for the life of me tell you why I did that,” she said. “I just liked the look of it, I guess. Nobody paid much attention to it. People sure don’t notice your cardboard poncho when you’re wearing a bucket on your head.”

Ex-MSNBC pundit Keith Olbermann put his own spin on the meme by quoting Monty Python from the skit The Four Yorkshiremen ~ via The Gateway Pundit

Also, she apparently stole the idea from The Simpsons, which is hilarious. Thanks, Fox!

Stay Thirsty My Friend ~ Rubio Water Bottle Gate

Photobucket

Rubio, who had mopped his brow a few times previously during the speech, was in the midst of maligning what he called "false choices" Mr. Obama laid out between big government and big business. But he interrupted his thought to grab a small water bottle apparently at his side, ducking down and nearly out of of the camera frame, before taking a sip and continuing with his remarks.
~ CBS News

"You know, when you talk a lot it happens. Unfortunately, when you're giving a speech you have a podium and the water's there. When you're standing up in front of a camera you don't have that option. It had been a long day at work, I had already taped an 18-minute speech in Spanish, so I'm just glad the water was nearby. I don't know what I would have done without it.

Uh-Oh.
~ Wolf Blitzer of CNN when Rubio drank the water

Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, being given the honor tonight of giving his party's response to the President's State of the Union Address. Honestly, Mr. Rubio's speech will be remembered in part by the odd punctuation of the big reach for the water glass in the middle of it. That's just an odd staging in what was otherwise set up visually as a nice speech. I will say, in tone, proclaiming himself frustrated, kind of an edgy speech, hard-edged, laced throughout with criticism of the President, much more a speech about the President than a speech about the country.
~ Rachel Maddow on MSNBC

I thought it was tinkertoys. I thought it was primitive. Something you'd hear on a high school debating team. . . . There was no originality to it. It was basic. Again, it was tinkertoys, a kids presentation of a philosophy reduced to maybe the ninth-grade level. I'm sorry that's what it was.
~ Chris Matthews on MSNBC

Did not like the water bottle. Just suck it up. Just go with it and work through it because ... he was giving a strong speech, but it was an establishment speech, which was a little bothersome to me.
~ Ex-RNC Chairman Michael Steele on MSNBC

I think Sen. Rubio has got some work to do before he's ready for prime time.

1. He's an amateur.
2. Say goodbye to 2016.
3. That wasn't water :-)

The drink of water thing was funny but when he squeegeed his forehead
I really LOL.

It ain't the water per se thats amusing it was the 2 seconds of sheer panic in his eyes.

So, yes, Marco Rubio proved you can manage to swallow just fine, but choke all the same.

I think it's called Product Placement in the PR biz
~ doorguy on Daily Kos

Creepy started with the sweating. All those hands to the face to whip away the sweat. What's the matter Marko? Could it be all the lying you're doing that's making you sweat? Then the desperate drink of water and the Leave It To Beaver smile at the end. Like a crook being interrogated under a hot lamp at the police station. Totally unbelievable.
I'd like to play poker with him sometime.
