Mitch McConnell "Silences" Elizabeth Warren

Senator Mitch McConnell decided to make an example of Elizabeth Warren. During the debate over appointing Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions as Trump's Attorney General, Warren started reading from a letter written by Coretta Scott King, wife of Martin Luther King. In that letter, Coretta King states that Jeff Sessions is a racist and not fit to be a Federal Judge.

McConnell then made what could be the biggest blunder of his political career. Using an obscure parliamentary rule, he "silenced" Warren, then made a statement for the record that may go down in history as one of the greatest rallying cries for women:

“She was warned,” McConnell said on the Senate floor after the confrontation. “She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.”
It’s hard to imagine a pithier encapsulation of nearly every struggle for justice in the history of humanity. Without even trying, McConnell wrote the future epitaph of hundreds of people who have the phrase “nasty woman” in their Twitter bios.

It's the quote that launched a thousand Twitter and Facebook memes, and McConnell probably regretted saying it right away.









Of course, Warren fought back, continuing to read the letter in the hallway outside the Senate, then discussing it with Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, who also read the letter on the air. Then she started tweeting back in defiance:

Democrats Hold Sit-In on Gun Control

The Democrats in Congress held a "sit-in" protest last week on the literal floor of the House of Representatives after Speaker Paul Ryan refused to allow a vote on gun control after the horrendous Orlando shooting. What they wanted was a way to keep terrorists on the no-fly list from buying assault weapons - something that seems like a no-brainer to a majority of Americans.

But Speaker Ryan called the protest a "publicity stunt" - never mind that he is the king of the Fake Charity Publicity Stunt, or that his own party has wasted time with Tea Party Shutdown and the silly Ted Cruz filibuster of Obamacare.

No, this protest was the real deal. When Paul Ryan attempted to shut it down by turning off the C-Span cameras, the Dems started filming the proceedings with their own phones and broadcasting to the world with the Periscope app. Almost immediately, C-Span picked up the Periscope feed and used it instead of the regular camera feed from Congress, completely bypassing Paul Ryan and making history.

While the sit-in ended with no legislation, the protest gave hope to the families of victims that eventually the logjam caused by threats from the NRA towards GOP politicians will fail.

“Eventually this problem will get addressed again one of two ways: We find a breakthrough, which I will seek, or there will be another terrorist attack which will bring us right back to this issue. I hope we can do it without another terrorist attack,” said Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican who supported Collins.
A few hours earlier, Democratic lawmakers ended a sit-in protest in the House of Representatives over guns.
Fueled by Chinese food and pizzas, dozens of them stayed on the House floor all night, at times bursting into the civil rights anthem "We Shall Overcome" before giving up their protest after 25 hours.
"It's not a struggle that lasts for one day, or one week, or one month, or one year," said Representative John Lewis, a Democrat from Georgia and a key figure in the civil rights protests of the 1960s. "We're going to win the struggle," said Lewis, who led the House sit-in.

Elizabeth Warren Slams "Loser" Trump

Elizabeth Warren wrote a scathing post directed at Donald Trump on her Facebook page. And just to make sure he would get the message big time, she also tweeted select sentences from her diatribe! It's a sight to behold! One of her main goals was not just to stir up anger against Trump, but to sound a warning to Democrats not to be complacent or view Trump as just another clown. He could become a Hitler or any other tyrant.

Trump's response? True to form, he insulted her as "That Indian" referring to Warren's Cherokee heritage that was used by her opponent in the Massachusetts Senate race, Scott Brown:

“Who is that, the Indian? You mean the Indian?” Trump asked, referring to Warren, who has said she has Native American ancestry.
Warren’s contention became a point of controversy during her 2012 U.S. Senate race when her Republican opponent, former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, who demanded proof. Warren has repeatedly defended her statements.
The Republican frontrunner was asked by reporters about the Democratic senator’s attacks during the event at the Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C.
This is not the first time Trump has invoked Warren’s heritage. He did so in an interview with New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd published over the weekend.
“I think it’s wonderful because the Indians can now partake in the future of the country," Dowd quoted Trump as saying. "She’s got about as much Indian blood as I have.”

Let’s be honest – Donald Trump is a loser. Count all his failed businesses. See how he kept his father’s empire afloat...

Good Old Sarah Palin never disappoints. Her latest word salad from her jumbled mind is that Libruls like Elizabeth Warren never eat fast food, and certainly not meat. We're all a buncha them thar' Vegans - you know, people who don't even want to build a big fire and roast the moose after God lets us shoot one of 'em from a helicopter. I love how she equates being a Vegan to being in Purgatory, as if eating meat sends us straight to heaven. Maybe it does if you think about hardening of the arteries, but I digress . . .

The real Purgatory is having to watch the Sarah Palin Channel.

Also too, we really have to wonder, ya know, if her verbal skills are a sign of, oh, I don't know, meeebeee early Dementia. Well, probably not. But still, and probably forever, Palin sounds like someone with too much anesthesia after a wisdom tooth operation. But all the time.

Also notice that Palin is dressed exactly like Warren and has blurred the video on purpose! A sharp-eyed @KatieAnnieOakley has screen-capped her doing this type of thing more than once, comparing Palin to the movie "Single White Female." LOL

I want to note that there are district attorneys and U.S. attorneys who are out there everyday squeezing ordinary citizens on sometimes very thin grounds and taking them to trial to ‘make an example,’ as they put it. I am really concerned that too-big-to-fail has become too-big-for-trial.

Voters in Massachusetts seem to be under the impression that former Senator Scott Brown may have been drunk Tweeting early Saturday morning.

Following the Tweets, which were posted just before 1 a.m., the hashtag #bqhatevwr was trending nationally, and continued to do so in Boston on Saturday morning, with dozens of people making jokes about the made up word that Brown fired out during his alleged late night social media rant.

After a full seven minutes or so of Cherokee chit-chat, Gregory apparently thought he needed to take us to an even less relevant topic, so he asked Brown about his mildly embarrassing assertion from last June that he’s met with “kings and queens” as a Senator. After that, Gregory tried to draw some more blood by asking Warren if she’s bothered that Brown paints her as an elitist by calling her “professor.” (She said it didn’t bother her.) It was about a third of the way through the debate when they turned to Warren’s record of defending/opposing asbestos victims.

I see Gregory more as the Tom Grunick (William Hurt) character from Broadcast News. He's not really capable of grasping nuance or complex strategic considerations, and he's thoroughly consumed by his popular success. His natural tendency is conservative, which makes him feel more comfortable around Republicans, and he's too simple to understand the need to obscure that for the sake of at least a semblance of journalistic integrity.

Cherokee Chief Says Scott Brown and his Staff are Racist

WCVB Boston - Scott Brown Staffers Make Indian War Whoops
In a video posted on YouTube, Brown's staffers are seen holding campaign signs near the Erie Pub, chanting and making tomahawk chops, presumably in reference to Elizabeth Warren's claims of Cherokee heritage.

Brown's Deputy Chief of Staff Greg Casey and Constituent Service Counsel Jack Richard, State Director Jerry McDermott, special assistant Jennifer Franks and GOP operative Brad Garrett are pictured in the video, NewsCenter 5's Janet Wu confirmed.

"It is certainly something that I don't condone," said Brown when asked about the video. "The real offense is that (Warren) said she was white and then checked the box saying she is Native American, and then she changed her profile in the law directory once she made her tenure."

Full Statement from Bill John Baker, Chief of the Cherokee Nation
The Cherokee Nation is disappointed in and denounces the disrespectful actions of staffers and supporters of Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown. The conduct of these individuals goes far beyond what is appropriate and proper in political discourse. The use of stereotypical “war whoop chants” and “tomahawk chops” are offensive and downright racist. It is those types of actions that perpetuate negative stereotypes and continue to minimize and degrade all native peoples.

The individuals involved in this unfortunate incident are high ranking staffers in both the senate office and the Brown campaign. A campaign that would allow and condone such offensive and racist behavior must be called to task for their actions.

The Cherokee Nation is a modern, productive society, and I am blessed to be their chief. I will not be silent when individuals mock and insult our people and our great nation.

We need individuals in the United States Senate who respect Native Americans and have an understanding of tribal issues. For that reason, I call upon Sen. Brown to apologize for the offensive actions of his staff and their uneducated, unenlightened and racist portrayal of native peoples.

The implication is that Warren is "faking" Native American heritage....How dare Elizabeth Warren call herself "Native American." What a scam! Turns out, Elizabeth Warren is Native American. She's from Oklahoma. She's 1/32 Cherokee. She appears to be exactly as Cherokee as the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, Bill John Baker. Elizabeth Warren is exactly as Cherokee as the guy who heads the Cherokee Nation. And actually because she may have ancestry from the Delaware Tribe as well, it is conceivable that she has even more Native ancestry than he does.

Scott Brown to be clear has never disproven that Elizabeth Warren has Native American ancestry. Right? I mean it's not like anybody has produced any evidence to say that she is not Native American. The whole basis for the Brown campaign making fun of Indian people, the whole basis for this making fun of Native American people by Scott Brown and by his campaign is that he says he can tell by looking at her that she is way too 'white looking' to really be Cherokee or any other Native American ancestry.

Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren (D) did not rely upon affirmative action to get teaching work at universities around the country, documents obtained by several media outlets revealed on Thursday.
In separate reports, The Associated Press and The Boston Globe both noted that Warren did not claim minority status at the University of Texas, where she taught law before moving to Harvard, writing on a personnel form that she identified as “White.” She also declined to apply to Rutgers Law School under a minority student program.

Senator Brown has spoken to his entire staff -- including the individuals involved in this unacceptable behavior -- and issued them their one and only warning that this type of conduct will not be tolerated.
As we enter the final stretch of this campaign, emotions are running high, and while Senator Brown can't control everyone, he is encouraging both sides to act with respect. He regrets that members of his staff did not live up to the high standards that the people of Massachusetts expect and deserve.

The GOP seems to like promoting the idea that minorities get special advantage in the United States. They don't want to believe Obama could be qualified to get into Harvard. Brown wants us to believe that Warren pretended to be a minority to get into college and get a job.

Instant Native American ancestry expert Scott Brown seems to have forgotten about, chooses to ignore or perhaps is totally ignorant and unaware of the Dawes Roll, blood quantum and the fact that there are three Federally recognized Cherokee nations; Cherokee Nation, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the United Keetoowah Band. The blood quantum for all three nations is different, and Brown's phenotypical dismissal of Warren's claim shows his ignorance.

"Now I greatly respect my Republican colleagues and their ideas. But make no mistake: I am proud to be a Democrat. I am proud to be a member of this great party," he said. "And we have, in many instances, been hit: 'They are liberal, they are progressive.'

Let me erase some confusion. Let me tell you something. There are people who poke fun at us Democrats. They say we go to far with this inclusion stuff. They say that we have a caucus for tall people and caucus for short people and a caucus for people who don't fit into any other caucus.
But let me just tell you - God did not burden the United States with the diversity of backgrounds, ideas and religions. He BLESSED America with them!
