Maine Wingnut Calls IRS the "Gestapo"

This decision has made America less free. We the people have been told there is no choice. You must buy health insurance or pay the new Gestapo -- the IRS.
Perhaps what is most disturbing about this ruling, though, is that the federal mandate is considered a TAX. Now that Congress can use the taxation power of the federal government to compel behavior or lack thereof, what’s next? More taxes if we don’t drive Toyota Priuses or if we eat too much junk food or maybe even pea soup?

Methinks the Dems protest too much. LePage may have violated the so-called "Godwin's Law" that prohibits Nazi analogies when criticizing an opponent. But you don't have to go far to find Democrats being equally hyperbolic about Republicans.
LePage should apologize when the Democrats do it.

So the despot in chief is whining again. How's that assistant chef's job at the governor's mansion you got your daughter? You know, the one that pays her $41k a year plus benefits. Or your brother-in-law you hired with a salary of over $68k per year.
When you stop hiring family and win greater than 50% (hell winning 40% would have been an improvement) of the votes, come back and talk to us about anything. Til then, STFU.

Maine voters regret electing Repubican Paul LePage Governor and would choose Independent Eliot Cutler if they could do the 2010 election over again, a new poll from Public Policy Polling finds. When asked who they would vote for if they could do the election over, 43% of Maine voters chose Eliot Cutler, 35% chose Paul LePage, and 19% chose Democrat Libby Mitchell. LePage suffers from a negative job approval rating, with just 41% of voters approving of his job performance and 52% disapproving.

Romney Now Calls Mandate a Tax

I said that I agreed with the dissent, and the dissent made it very clear that they felt it was unconstitutional. But the dissent lost - it's in the minority.
Now the Supreme Court has spoken and while I agreed with the dissent, that’s taken over by the fact that the majority of the court said it’s a tax. Therefore it is a tax. They have spoken. There’s no way around that. You can try and say you wish they’d decided a different way, but they didn't. They concluded it’s a tax. That’s what it is.

UPDATE: 3:28 p.m. -- The Romney campaign has released a fuller transcript of the CBS interview, in which the candidate is asked the question:

If the mandate is a tax under Obamacare, isn't it also a tax under Masscare?

"Actually the chief justice in his opinion made it very clear that at the state level, states have the power to put in place mandates," Romney replied. "They don’t need to require them to be called taxes in order for them to be constitutional. And as a result, Massachusetts’ mandate was a mandate, was a penalty, was described that way by the legislature and by me, and so it stays as it was."

CHUCK TODD (MSNBC): What you just said is that Governor Romney agrees that it's not a tax. But you guys call it a penalty.

ERIC FEHRNSTROM (TOP ROMNEY AIDE): The governor disagreed with the court. He agreed with the dissent that was written by Justice Scalia which very clearly stated that the mandate was not a tax.

TODD: So ... I think we're talking around each other. The governor does not believe the mandate is a tax, that's what you're saying?

FEHRNSTROM: The governor believes that what we put in place in Massachusetts was a penalty and he disagrees with the court's ruling that the mandate was a tax.

TODD: But he agrees with the president that it is not, that you shouldn't call the tax penalty a tax, you should call it a penalty or a fee or a fine?

FEHRNSTROM: That's correct.
