Trump's Cuckoo Press Conference

President Trump held a truly bizarre, impromptu press conference yesterday that took his insanity to new heights (or lows). I mean, it's hard to describe it without using Alice in Wonderland - Mad Hatter - Down the Rabbit Hole analogies.

Trump held court during a news conference that lasted an hour and fifteen minutes, carving out a stunning moment in modern American political history. He displayed a sense of anger and grievance rarely vented by a President in public -- let alone one who has been in office for just four weeks.
"I have never seen more dishonest media, frankly than the political media," Trump said, later slamming leaks to the press from the intelligence community -- some of which led to the resignation of national security adviser Michael Flynn.
"The leaks are real. The leaks are absolutely real. The news is fake because so much of the news is fake," Trump said.

Gun Nuts See "Fake Tears" From President Over Sandy Hook

Last week President Obama tearfully announced new measures included in an Executive Order meant to curb gun violence, such as better background checks at gun shows. He has always said that the day of the Sandy Hook massacre of innocent children and teachers was the worst day of his Presidency.

Of course, the wingnuts who believe he is still planning a "Gun Grab" and martial law don't understand real emotion when they see it. They immediately jumped to bizarre conclusions and conspiracies to explain the President crying over dead children.

Because they are insane. And heartless!

Epic Fail ~ Smithsonian Honors Sarah Palin as "Significant American" - Omits Barack Obama

Will the Sarah Palin Derp Train every grind to a halt? Now the revered Smithsonian Institution, the premier archive of American History, is honoring her as a "Significant American," even though she mangles her history as well as the English language every time she opens her mouth. Why exactly is she significant, beyond the creation of the shameful and racist Tea Party movement and hours of bad reality TV? Remember #Palin Brawl?

And to add insult to injury, Smithsonian left another "Significant American" off the list - President Barack Obama, the first African American President, and one of the most revered men in the world. What? Woodrow Wilson and George Bush are more "significant" than Barack Obama? Hells Bells and Cottontails!

A sad day for our country. Smithsonian deserves ALL the mockery that the Left can throw at them!

In a culture so saturated with information and so fragmented by the search possibilities of the Internet, how do we measure historical significance?
Steven Skiena and Charles B. Ward have come up with a novel answer. Skiena is the Distinguished Teaching Professor of Computer Science at Stony Brook University and a co-founder of the social-analytics company General Sentiment. Ward is an engineer at Google, specializing in ranking methodologies. Their answer involves high-level math. They subject the historical zeitgeist to the brute rigors of quantitative analysis in a recent book, Who’s Bigger? Where Historical Figures Really Rank.

Or maybe it was just a money-makin' deal? Seems that the Koch Brothers gave them a hefty donation, which might explain why they left the Foreign-Born Kenyan Imperial Emperor off their list.

The Smithsonian's Board of Regents announced the goal Monday and revealed more than $1 billion already has been raised in a quiet phase since October 2011. This is the first institution-wide fundraising effort and the largest campaign in history for any cultural institution, Smithsonian Secretary Wayne Clough said. The campaign will continue through 2017.
Several large gifts were previously announced for large projects.
David H. Koch donated $35 million for a major renovation of the Smithsonian's dinosaur hall.

According to Mother Jones, this has been ongoing since at least 2010
..The museum has defended Koch, the ninth richest man in the United States, as a "philanthropist who is deeply interested in science." Moreover, Smithsonian Human Origins Program director Rick Potts said, "our donors have no control over the content of our science or scholarship of our exhibits." Climate Progress blogger Joe Romm, however, argues that the new exhibit "whitewashes the danger of human caused climate change." See his post for more on the subject.

Charlotte Allen's Insidious Sandy Hook Op-Ed in National Review

There was not a single adult male on the school premises when the shooting occurred. In this school of 450 students, a sizeable number of whom were undoubtedly 11- and 12-year-old boys (it was a K–6 school), all the personnel — the teachers, the principal, the assistant principal, the school psychologist, the “reading specialist” — were female. There didn’t even seem to be a male janitor to heave his bucket at Adam Lanza’s knees. Women and small children are sitting ducks for mass-murderers. The principal, Dawn Hochsprung, seemed to have performed bravely. According to reports, she activated the school’s public-address system and also lunged at Lanza, before he shot her to death. Some of the teachers managed to save all or some of their charges by rushing them into closets or bathrooms. But in general, a feminized setting is a setting in which helpless passivity is the norm. Male aggression can be a good thing, as in protecting the weak — but it has been forced out of the culture of elementary schools and the education schools that train their personnel. Think of what Sandy Hook might have been like if a couple of male teachers who had played high-school football, or even some of the huskier 12-year-old boys, had converged on Lanza.

. . . Parents of sick children need to be realistic about them. I know at least two sets of fine and devoted parents who have had the misfortune to raise sons who were troubled for genetic reasons beyond anyone’s control. Either of those boys could have been an Adam Lanza. You simply can’t give a non-working, non-school-enrolled 20-year-old man free range of your home, much less your cache of weapons. You have to set boundaries. You have to say, “You can’t live here anymore — you’re an adult, and it’s time for you to be a man. We’ll give you all the support you need, but we won’t be enablers.” Unfortunately, the idea of being an “adult” and a “man” once one has reached physical maturity seems to have faded out of our coddling culture.

It shouldn't go without saying on this forum that the Ms. Allen's cruel and delusional ideas aren't just about women being "helpless," but about what is right for a 20-year old with horrible psychological issues. She advocates kicking them out of the house as a solution. Which is ridiculous, if not sociopathic.
We're all deep in mourning for these children and adults. We're all casting about for answers. But Ms. Allen's delusional rant is no answer.

I have to wonder how the author would explain the Ft Bragg massacre - where there were more than enough big burly men around, and even lots of big macho weapons - and yet it happened, with 12 deaths and 32 injuries. Perhaps her low regard for women's intellect and strength comes from self-observation.

Is this site just trolling for page hits at this point? This post reads like satire. I'm sitting here rereading it and looking for any semblance of accuracy... or value for that matter.

In which we memorialize the dumbest punditry connected to the schoolhouse massacre in Connecticut by measuring it against the thoughts of Megan McArdle, who believes that human-wave attacks by toddlers would have been the best solution.
Here we have Charlotte Allen, who thinks the basic problem was that there weren't enough manly men around Sandy Hook Elementary School last Friday.
. . . OK. I've thought about it. THEY'D ALL BE DEAD NOW, TOO.
Give Allen credit. At least she's upped the age for the schoolchildren who should be used for suicide missions against armored gunmen into the pre-adolescent range.
. . . American conservatism has been rendered a parody of a burlesque of a puppet show. And Charlotte Allen should be shunned by decent people. Hell, people who think like this should be shunned by bacteria.

Come on Ms. Coulter, you aren’t dumb and you aren’t shallow. So why are you continually using a word like the R-word as an insult?

I’m a 30 year old man with Down syndrome who has struggled with the public’s perception that an intellectual disability means that I am dumb and shallow. I am not either of those things, but I do process information more slowly than the rest of you. In fact it has taken me all day to figure out how to respond to your use of the R-word last night.

I thought first of asking whether you meant to describe the President as someone who was bullied as a child by people like you, but rose above it to find a way to succeed in life as many of my fellow Special Olympians have.

Then I wondered if you meant to describe him as someone who has to struggle to be thoughtful about everything he says, as everyone else races from one snarkey sound bite to the next.

Finally, I wondered if you meant to degrade him as someone who is likely to receive bad health care, live in low grade housing with very little income and still manages to see life as a wonderful gift.

Because, Ms. Coulter, that is who we are – and much, much more.

After I saw your tweet, I realized you just wanted to belittle the President by linking him to people like me. You assumed that people would understand and accept that being linked to someone like me is an insult and you assumed you could get away with it and still appear on TV.

I have to wonder if you considered other hateful words but recoiled from the backlash.

Well, Ms. Coulter, you, and society, need to learn that being compared to people like me should be considered a badge of honor.

No one overcomes more than we do and still loves life so much.

Look, no one would refer to a Down's Syndrome child as, someone with an actual mental handicap, by saying ‘retard.’ Where do you think the words ‘imbecile,’ ‘idiot,’ ‘moron,’ ‘cretin’ come from? These were all technical terms at one time. ‘Retard’ had been used colloquially to just mean ‘loser’ for 30 years. But no, no — these aggressive victims have to come out and tell you what words to use.

Colmes: You may think that it's liberal totalitarianism that is dictating that you can't say that word, but John Franklin Stephens, who is a member of the Special Olympics, he's an athlete, he's an adult who has Down's Syndrome, says he has invited you to join him to see the Special Olympics. He says you're a friend he hasn't made yet, but he hopes he can, and he says that you should understand that life is a wonderful gift and that--

Coulter: How about, as long as they are going to be the word police, I want to know if I can use 'moron,' 'idiot,' 'cretin,' and 'imbecile.' Because it really doesn't make much sense unless they are thoroughly authoritarian and arbitrary. And which words are in and which words are out?

Colmes: You know that some words have meanings and some of them sting. Like certain words for African-Americans.

Coulter: You're not supposed to 'sting' the President. (laughs)

Colmes: You wrote a book on race. You know that thee are certain words that are not to be used for African-Americans...

No, you're not black. That's what I should have called my book "Guilty" - "You're. Not. Black." If you were not held in slavery, if you were not brought here as slaves, held as slaves for hundreds of years, discriminated against by democratic policies of Jim Crow - NO, you can't go around policing what people say.

Colmes: But what about people with disabilities who don't like it when you use the 'R-word,' who say--

Ann Coulter isn’t really that ignorant, she just thinks she’s protecting her unapologetic “brand.”
Coulter knows better . . . and is really only burnishing her “edgy” reputation at this point. As a PR move, this looks like a miscalculation, but it is her career, and she’s the one who is going to miss it the most. Alan is absolutely right that this is not a right/left issue, and if it ever was, it ceased being one when former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin rose to prominence, and raised awareness among conservatives about special needs children, and among liberals about ableism. Coulter is miscalculating if she thinks conservatives will simply close their ears to this.
As such, it’s hard to care whether Coulter ever apologizes . . .

Rattled and bitter that they could not knock the Romney-Ryan ticket off-message, the Obama team and its allies in the blogosphere fixated on Clint Eastwood. Listen, I was there and it was darn weird. But at times it was funny and devastating in its dismissal of the president’s excuses. And in clips and sound bites the day after the live performance, the oddness is diminished and the punch lines seem more biting. In simple terms, the movie icon encapsulated the message of the convention: If someone is doing a bad job, you have to fire him.
Eastwood apparently so annoyed the egomaniacal president that the leader of the Free World felt compelled to hit back via Twitter (“this seat is taken”) at the movie star. Talk about losing your presidential aura. Empty chair = Obama is now a powerful association. Will the chair be in ads?

He was doing an improv. That's an improv; it's ad lib. In an improv, you needed a partner. So he created one for himself. Now look, George Bernard Shaw, the great playwright, was great because he always gave the best lines to the antagonists. Actors know, "I want to play the bad guy; he gets the best lines;" the reason being that the stronger the antagonist, the stronger the protagonist because he's got something to fight against.
What he gave to Barack Obama was, well, not the best lines. It was a couple vulgarities. First of all, "shut up," and then "go blank yourself;" a word we can't utter here, of course, and shouldn't have been uttered there. Certainly, not before the candidate was going to come out and impress us with what a wonderful person he was. The result was that it was ... Let me say this, in my opinion, Obama is incapable of saying "shut up and go blank yourself" in any normal circumstance and is capable, in fact, of uttering much more eloquent and I think proper replies. He was not given that opportunity. The words were put in his mouth. The words were vulgar and worse, they were disrespectful. I mean, I can remember a number of presidential campaigns where presidents who were running for reelection were not treated quite this disrespectfully.

Black CNN Worker Attacked by WingNuts with Nuts - Updated

The CNN official declined to confirm specific details of the incident to TPM but generally confirmed an account posted on Twitter by former MSNBC and Current anchor David Shuster: “GOP attendee ejected for throwing nuts at African American CNN camera woman + saying ‘This is how we feed animals.’”
It is not clear whether the alleged culprit was a delegate or attending the convention in some other capacity.
In a written statement, CNN addressed the matter but divulged few details: “CNN can confirm there was an incident directed at an employee inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum earlier this afternoon. CNN worked with convention officials to address this matter and will have no further comment.”

UPDATE: GOP convention spokesman Kyle Downey tells POLITICO, "Two attendees tonight exhibited deplorable behavior. Their conduct was inexcusable and unacceptable. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated."

That person merely revealed and acted out the pervading and secret sentiment of most of the GOP. That's their BIG problem and there's no way out.
