Trump chose Governor Mike Pence of Indiana as his running mate, which seems like a no-drama choice instead of Newt Gingrich or Chris Christie. But Trump managed to turn it into drama-rama by flying Pence to New York then letting him dangle there for 24 hours without any official announcement. Meanwhile, Pence only had one day left to withdraw from the Indiana Governor's race. With one hour left on the clock, and reporters staked out both in New York and Indiana, Trump finally confirmed his choice in his favorite form of communication - a tweet!

One of the worst roll-outs of a VP in history!

Hillary Running Against Bernie and Trump

 photo 62c1f495-7c75-4497-be94-528634a48dbe.jpg

In spite of not winning the Indiana Primary, Hillary Clinton had a strong week as a candidate.

After Donald Trump accused her of playing the Woman Card, Hillary raised 2.4 million dollars by offering supporters a literal Woman Card for a donation.

She began the vetting process for Vice President, and of course Twitter had a few suggestions.

And she turned towards the general election in a big way with two ads targeting Trump:

Unfortunately for the Democratic Party, Bernie Sanders is still a major stumbling block for Hillary. He won Indiana possibly due to Independent and GOP cross-over votes. Even though the state was a virtual tie in delegates and Bernie's lead was slim, his followers once again saw it as "momentum" leading to the big prize of California at the end of the primary season.

And Bernie came out swinging at Hillary, telling her he wasn't going anywhere.

However, those able to #FeelTheMath and accept reality are realizing that the numbers are not in Bernie's favor, and he probably won't catch Hillary on delegates.

However, the Berniebot Believers are never going to give up, and most of them are never going to vote Hillary in the general election. And Bernie's surrogates are still calling for increased donations to keep them going, while building up hopes for a longshot win. It's a con game, and it isn't helping the Democratic Party.

The main lessons from this election year are clear: the Democratic Party needs to fix several things before next time. No more support for Independents pretending to be Democrats. No more open primaries allowing Republicans to tamper with our primaries, and hopefully no more unfair caucuses keeping turnout low.

As it stands now, Hillary and her supporters are having to turn toward the general election and Donald Trump while dealing with rabid Berniebots who basically regurgitate far-right memes about Hillary.

President Obama's Epic Ad Lib During State of the Union

 photo B72WzPWIUAAT_t2.jpg

A defiant and proud President Obama gave probably the best one-liner response EVER to GOP hecklers on the night of the State of the Union speech. Call it "shade," a "pwn," a "sick burn," or a "slam-dunk," it was fabulous!

Via Washington Post
"I have no more campaigns to run,” Obama said, to which the Republicans in the audience applauded sarcastically. He came back in the very next beat: “I know, because I won both of them."

Dick Cheney and Daughter Attack the President on Iraq

Former Veep Dick Cheney has been in retirement for some time and has a bad heart to boot. His daughter Liz has five children but wants to run for office, so recently she ran in the Wyoming GOP Senate Primary until she had to drop out in disgrace after she messed up a form to buy a fishing license and voters realized she was just a fake resident.

So times are rough for Dick and Daughter. They crave the limelight, and what better activity for a couple of sociopaths with too much time on their hands than writing a Wall Street Journal Op-Ed hit-piece?

 photo CheneyChicken-Hawks.jpg

Yes, Dick and Daughter composed a scathing diatribe against Barack Obama that is the equivalent of shooting someone in the face with birdshot (something Cheney certainly knows how to do).

Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many.
. . . Iraq is at risk of falling to a radical Islamic terror group and Mr. Obama is talking climate change. Terrorists take control of more territory and resources than ever before in history, and he goes golfing. He seems blithely unaware, or indifferent to the fact, that a resurgent al Qaeda presents a clear and present danger to the United States of America.
. . . he abandoned Iraq and we are watching American defeat snatched from the jaws of victory.
. . . Despite clear evidence of the dire need for American leadership around the world, the desperation of our allies and the glee of our enemies, President Obama seems determined to leave office ensuring he has taken America down a notch. Indeed, the speed of the terrorists' takeover of territory in Iraq has been matched only by the speed of American decline on his watch.
~ Former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter, failed Wyoming GOP candidate Liz Cheney, in Wall Street Journal

Which president was he talking about?
. . . Look, it's obviously always good to hear from former Vice President Cheney. It's pretty clear that President Obama and our team here have distinctly different views on Iraq from the team that led the United States to invade Iraq back in 2003.
~ White House Spokesman, Jay Carney

If there is one thing this country does not need is that we should be taking advice from Dick Cheney on wars. Being on the wrong side of Dick Cheney is being on the right side of history.
~ Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid D-Nevada

JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING (The Borowitz Report)—Former Vice-President Dick Cheney broke his silence about the crisis in Iraq on Tuesday, telling reporters, “My thoughts and prayers are with the Iraqi oil wells.”
Speaking from his Wyoming ranch, Cheney said that he had planned to remain quiet about the current state of affairs in Iraq, but “thinking about those oil wells has kept me up at night.”
“If Dick Cheney won’t speak for the Iraqi oil wells, who will?” he said.
~ Andy Borowitz parodying Cheney for New Yorker

The more the former vice president talks, the better Obama seems.
. . . To check Cheney’s facts is to enjoy a target-rich environment.
. . . Thank God for Dick Cheney. Before this week, Obama’s options were limited by a public justifiably tired of international entanglements. Now all he has to jab a thumb at the lot of Cheney, John McCain, and the rest of the Iraq War apologists and promise that whatever happens, he’s not repeating their mistakes. At long last, Dick Cheney is finally the right man at the right time.
~ Jason Stanford on Talking Points Memo

Mr. Cheney ... is still trying to bend history toward an exoneration of his guilt and an expunging of his record. But history, on this, is stiff, and his record is written in blood.
~ Charles Blow on New York Times

Time and time again, history has proven that you got it wrong as well in Iraq, sir.
~ Said by Megyn Kelly of Fox News, while introducing Dick and Liz Cheney

There is not a single person in America — not Bill Kristol, not Paul Wolfowitz, not Don Rumsfeld, no pundit, not even President Bush himself — who has been more wrong and more shamelessly dishonest on the topic of Iraq than Dick Cheney.
And now, as the cascade of misery and death and chaos he did so much to unleash rages anew, Cheney has the unadulterated gall to come before the country and tell us that it’s all someone else’s fault, and if we would only listen to him then we could keep America safe forever. How dumb would we have to be to listen?
~ Paul Waldman in Washington Post, Plum Line

Cheney let 9/11 happen on his watch.
American history has had its share of villains - J. Edgar Hoover, Joe McCarthy, and Richard Nixon come to mind as some of the worst - but there is no one in recent history who has disgraced our country quite like Dick Cheney has. He lied his way into an illegal war, profited off that war, and shredded the Constitution. He’s a war criminal and has the blood of hundreds of thousands of innocent people on his hands.
Dick Cheney should be rotting in a prison cell at The Hague, not writing editorials for the Wall Street Journal.

Sarah Palin's Inquisition ~ Let's "Baptize" Terrorists With Waterboarding

 photo tumblr_majn54FXru1qdupae.jpg

Oh, Sarah Palin - there she goes again. When she isn't shooting off a gun she is shooting off her mouth. This Gun-Loving Mama Grizzly who thinks them Libruls is out to "Steal Her Christmas" now equates Waterboarding with Baptism in a new low even for her. Jesus would not be amused, anymore than he was by the Spanish Inquisition. Did I mention she said this to the NRA and they cheered? Yeah, Jesus wouldn't like that either. This woman was almost our vice president. Oh dear Lord, thank you for saving us.

From The Hill
“They obviously have information on plots to carry out Jihad,” ...(Palin) said at the National Rifle Association (NRA) annual meeting on Saturday evening, referring to prisoners. "Oh, but you can’t offend them, can’t make them feel uncomfortable, not even a smidgen.
Well, if I were in charge, they would know that waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists.”

Was she sorry she said it? Nahhhhh.

From NBC News
In a brief interview with NBC News, Palin doubled down on a remark she made earlier this week at the NRA convention.
"Would I make it again? Why wouldn't I, yeah, absolutely. Terrorists who want to annihilate Americans, innocent Americans, our children - whatever it takes to stop them. If I were in charge, I'd be stoppin' em," she said.

And now she's blaming Obama because #Benghazi :

From Palin's Facebook Page
Actions to stop terrorists who’d utterly annihilate America and delight in massacring our innocent children? Darn right I’d do whatever it takes to foil their murderous jihadist plots – including waterboarding. Whatever one thinks of my one-liner at the NRA rally about treating evil terrorists the way they deserve to be treated to prevent the death of innocent people, it’s utterly absurd for MSNBC to suggest that I could put our beloved troops in harm’s way, but we’ve come to expect the absurd from that failing network.

If you want to talk about what really harms our troops, let’s talk about politicians who gut our military’s budgets, or a president whose skewed budgetary priorities slash military benefits, or an administration that puts our vets on endless waiting lists for care that comes too late to help those who’ve paid the price for our freedom, or those who break bread with those who think it makes no difference how our military heroes died in Benghazi or anywhere else trying to protect America. Those actions are a heck of a lot more harmful than declaring an appropriate message our enemies should receive. If some overly sensitive wusses took offense, remember the First Amendment doesn’t give you a right not to be offended. Perhaps hypocritical folks who only want Freedom of Speech to apply to those who agree with their liberal agenda might want to consider that the evil terrorists who were the brunt of my one-liner would be the first to strip away ALL our rights if given the chance. That’s why we do whatever we can to prevent them from killing innocent people. And for that, we should NEVER apologize. Good Lord, critics... buck up or stay in the truck. And if you love freedom, thank our troops! Thank our vets! And thank those who have the brains to support them and the guts to defend what they have earned!

Even some Conservatives are offended:

No, Sarah Palin, Baptism Isn’t A Good Punchline For A Terrorist Joke
. . . Joking about baptism in the context of this aggressive action suggests that we don’t think baptism is as life-giving or important as it is.
~ Mollie Hemingway on The Federalist

OK, stop. Not only is this woman, putatively a Christian, praising torture, but she is comparing it to a holy sacrament of the Christian faith. It’s disgusting — but even more disgusting, those NRA members, many of whom are no doubt Christians, cheered wildly for her.
Palin and all those who cheered her sacrilegious jibe ought to be ashamed of themselves. For us Christians, baptism is the entry into new life. Palin invoked it to celebrate torture. Even if you don’t believe that waterboarding is torture, surely you agree that it should not be compared to baptism, and that such a comparison should be laughed at. What does it say about the character of a person that they could make that joking comparison, and that so many people would cheer for it. Nothing good — and nothing that does honor to the cause of Jesus Christ.
~ Rod Dreher on The American Conservative

For anyone to confess Christ as their savior and to compare one of the means of God's grace to an act of torture is reprehensible. I hope members of Gov. Palin's local church will explain to her why her remarks denigrate the Christian faith. Such remarks bring shame on the Body of Christ and to our witness in the world. Even more shameful, however, is the fact that so many Christians would cheer her support of torture (and yes, waterboarding is torture).
~ The Gospel Coalition

Yes, Palin's Fox pal Sean Hannity Can Mansplain Why Waterboarding is Exactly Like Baptism (well not really, but he tries):
Let’s say, God forbid, one day you’re in a parking lot, somebody comes and they try and grab, um, all of — let’s say you have three kids — they try and grab all three of your kids but they only get one.
Well, let’s say they get your three kids.
And you get one of the people responsible for kidnapping your kids. Let’s see. Would you wanna baptize them by waterboarding the guy that took your three children?
I think I would. I think — as a matter of fact it wouldn’t be much of a question. I think I’d baptize him again, and again, and again until I found out where my kids are.
. . . I don’t understand the sensibility of liberals.
You have the guy — the mastermind, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed — you know how many people got waterboarded? Three. Three! That’s it!
I just asked the question that way, because I don’t think there’s one of you listening, not one liberal out there if you have an honest bone in your body that wouldn’t say I would do whatever it took. Get the information quickly. Expeditiously.
Whatever it took. That’s just the way life — that’s just the way we roll. It’s the way America rolls.

Oooookey-Dokey.

Someone pointed out that the NRA might not be the best venue to talk peace, love and Baptism. Ya Think?

. . . for a self-professed Christian like Palin to use this beautiful religious ceremony with strong historical precedent as a part of a cheap joke to garner support for her otherwise typically uninspired stump speech is beyond repugnant. But what is more repugnant is that the National Rifle Association didn’t immediately distance itself from her. As far as I am concerned, until or unless they do, the National Rifle Association is guilty by association, and they, too, are anti-Christian.
~ Brendan Diamond on Democratify

Some were embarrassed (again) for Alaska:

Not everyone from Wasilla agrees with Sarah Palin. I feel it is important for my reputation as a human being who grew up in Wasilla, AK to take a stand. My family and I moved to Alaska in the early 70's. I went to public school in Wasilla from 1st through 12th grade, and I graduated from Wasilla High School in 1986. During that time, I was also a Blue Bird, a Camp Fire Girl, a Rainbow girl, a member of the First Presbyterian Church ...
There is Nothing in my upbringing in Wasilla that ever promoted or tolerated the idea that it is ok, good, or necessary to torture anyone.
. . . Furthermore, combining the acts of water-boarding (torture) and baptism (a sacred spiritual ritual) is an idea so reprehensible it could be used as a theme in Game of Thrones.

Time for Paul Ryan Beefcake Photos

Photobucket

To release these photos on the same day when important issues are to be discussed is, in my view, poor judgment.
~ Ryan aide to CNN News on day of Biden debate

Photobucket

Transcript: Time Magazine Editor on CNN's Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer:

BLITZER: It's no secret, of course, that Paul Ryan is in excellent physical shape. He's committed to a very serious workout regimen, for good reason. His father and his grandfather, they both died of heart disease in their mid-50s.
"Time Magazine," our sister publication, is now publishing these photos of the Republican vice presidential nominee. The magazine is on the newsstands tomorrow.
They were taken last year, almost a year ago, when he was named runner-up in the magazine's Person of the Year issue.
Joining us now is "Time Magazine" editor, Rick Stengel. Rick, thanks very much for coming in.
You always have a great issue.

Let's talk about the controversy. Some Romney aides are criticizing "Time Magazine" for publishing these photos now, on the eve of the debate, on the same day, actually, of the debate. And they insist that they had every reason to believe these photos would not be published.

Tell us the decision, why you decided to publish the photos today.

RICHARD STENGEL, "TIME" MANAGING EDITOR: Well, Wolf, I'm sorry that they feel that way. I think they're actually flattering pictures of -- of Mr. Ryan. And I mean the -- the explanation is pretty simple. I mean, he is in the news right now. And we are in the news business. And this seemed like the most appropriate time to do those pictures.
In fact, I -- I kind of wonder if we'd done them another time, you'd be asking me, well, why are you publishing those pictures of -- of Paul Ryan?
It seems sort of arbitrary. And he's not in the news. So you can't win either way.

BLITZER: Well, there -- there was a lot of talk about his being in such great physical shape when he was named to the ticket. That would have been a good time to publish those pictures, as well.

STENGEL: Well, we thought about it. And you know, for various reasons, you know, there's space reasons and things like that, it wasn't -- it didn't seem like the right thing to do at that moment, and then we held them. And then, this seemed like the right moment.

BLITZER: Did they ever have any understanding from "Time" magazine that those pictures would not be used?

STENGEL: Well, we had discussions with them about using them back and forth. And, there was never an understanding that they would not be used. In fact, you know, the photographer owns those pictures, and he can sell them to anybody. He happened to be on assignment for us. So, we had a proprietary use agreement with him over that. So, it's not like those pictures would have gone to waste all together.

While I give him credit for working out, the photos look goofy rather than sexy. I can't say whether this is a result of the selection of images made by the photographer or editor, or if the entire run of shots were similar. Sarah Palin's photos, regardless of how you feel about her, were much more flattering.

From David Letterman on CBS
Now this is a guy who wants a career in politics. Honest to God, ladies and gentlemen. Take a look at Hamilton, or Jefferson, or Washington. You don't see them pulling crap like this. Hey, Buddy. It's like the Backstreet Boys or something. I don't know - what is wrong? Look at the cap, 'look how cute I am.' Hey chill! Hey, bro - I'm cool. Are you cool? I'm cool. We're cool, right bro? Huh? Seriously, check it out, we're cool. Right, bro?

Top Ten Thoughts Going Through Paul Ryan's Mind When That Picture was Taken:

10. These weights are 100 pounds each. (Wait a minute, right there it says "40")
.9. My biceps are cut like taxes for the wealthiest one percent.
.8. Of course they won't publish this on the most important day of my political career.
.7. My flaccid smirk will motivate Americans to get in shape.
.6. What's the worst people will say about a photo of me and a dumbbell?
.5. There's no 3-Day Waiting Period at this Gun Show.
.4. Please, please, ask me to take my shirt off.
.3. Why are the people giggling?
.2. Please, please, aske me to take off my shorts.
.1. Maybe now people will take me seriously.

Paul Ryan: His Unborn Child on Ultrasound Resembled a Bean

beanryan

RYAN: Now, you want to ask basically why I'm pro-life? It's not simply because of my Catholic faith. That's a factor, of course. But it's also because of reason and science.

You know, I think about 10 1/2 years ago, my wife Janna and I went to Mercy Hospital in Janesville where I was born, for our seven week ultrasound for our firstborn child, and we saw that heartbeat. A little baby was in the shape of a bean. And to this day, we have nicknamed our firstborn child Liza, "Bean." Now I believe that life begins at conception.

That's why -- those are the reasons why I'm pro-life.

Cheshire Cat Joe Biden Wins VP Debate

Photobucket

gif via BuzzFeed

ABC News: Vice Presidential Debate Transcript

BIDEN: But I always say what I mean. And so does Romney.

RYAN: We want everybody to succeed. We want to get people out of poverty, in the middle class, onto a life of self-sufficiently. We believe in opportunity and upward mobility. That's what we're going to push for in a Romney administration.

RADDATZ: Vice president? I have a feeling you have a few things to say here.

BIDEN: The idea -- if you heard that -- that little soliloquy on 47 percent and you think he just made a mistake, then I think you're -- I -- I think -- I got a bridge to sell you.

Photobucket

~~~~~~
BIDEN: I love my friend here. I -- I'm not allowed to show letters but go on our website, he sent me two letters saying, "By the way, can you send me some stimulus money for companies here in the state of Wisconsin?" We sent millions of dollars. You know...
(CROSSTALK)
RADDATZ: You did ask for stimulus money, correct?
BIDEN: Sure he did. By the way...
RYAN: On two occasions we -- we -- we advocated for constituents who were applying for grants. That's what we do. We do that for all constituents who are...
(CROSSTALK) BIDEN: I love that. I love that. This was such a bad program and he writes me a letter saying -- writes the Department of Energy a letter saying, "The reason we need this stimulus, it will create growth and jobs." His words. And now he's sitting here looking at me.
. . . I wish he would just tell -- be a little more candid.
. . . By the way, any letter you send me, I'll entertain.
RYAN: I appreciate that, Joe.
(LAUGHTER)
~~~~~~

BIDEN: Number two, "guaranteed benefit"? It's a voucher. When they first proposed -- when the congressman had his first voucher program, the CBO said it would cost $6,400 a year, Martha, more for every senior, 55 and below, when they got there. He knew that, yet he got all the guys in Congress and women in the Republican Party to vote for it. Governor Romney, knowing that, said, I would sign it, were I there.

Who you believe, the AMA, me, a guy who's fought his whole life for this, or somebody who would actually put in motion a plan that knowingly cut -- added $6,400 a year more to the cost of Medicare?

Now they got a new plan: "Trust me, it's not going to cost you any more." Folks, follow your instincts on this one.

And with regard to Social Security, we will not -- we will not privatize it. If we had listened to Romney, Governor Romney, and the congressman during the Bush years, imagine where all those seniors would be now if their money had been in the market.

Their ideas are old and their ideas are bad, and they eliminate the guarantee of Medicare.

RYAN: Here's the problem. They got caught with their hands in the cookie jar, turning Medicare into a piggybank for Obamacare. Their own actuary from the administration came to Congress and said one out of six hospitals and nursing homes are going to go out of business as a result of this.

BIDEN: That's not what they said.

RYAN: 7.4 million seniors are projected to lose their current Medicare Advantage coverage they have. That's a $3,200 benefit cut.

BIDEN: That didn't happen.

RYAN: What we're saying...

BIDEN: More people signed up.

RYAN: These are from your own actuaries.

BIDEN: More -- more -- more people signed up for Medicare Advantage after the change.

RYAN: What -- there's...

BIDEN: Nobody is...

(CROSSTALK)

RYAN: Mr. Vice President, I know...

BIDEN: No, this is...

(CROSSTALK)

RYAN: Mr. Vice President, I know you're under a lot of duress to make up for lost ground, but I think people would be better served if we don't keep interrupting each other.

BIDEN: Well, don't take all the four minutes then.

Ryan Says 30% are "Takers, Not Makers" ~ homage to Ayn Rand

Photobucket

Seventy percent of Americans want the American dream. They believe in the American idea. Only 30 percent want the welfare state. Before too long, we could become a society where the net majority of Americans are takers, not makers.
~ Vice Presidential Candidate Paul Ryan, via Huffington Post

“Public welfare is the welfare of those who do not earn it; those who do, are entitled to no welfare.”
— John Galt
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand (Part 3, Chapter 7)

And what is notable about these and will effect the debate tomorrow is that Mr. Ryan makes the same case that Mitt Romney was making when he made those devastating 47 percent remarks. In Mr. Ryan’s case, he doesn’t use the phrase ’47 percent.’ He picks a slightly different figure. For him, the figure is 30 percent.
. . . This idea that a large proportion of the country are just dependent, mooching victims to whom the American dream is inapplicable, who are beyond the reach of the kind of politics the Republican ticket is offering, it turns out it is both guys on the ticket who believe that.

~ comment by EllisIsland on Huffington Post

47% layabouts? 30% lazy bums? Who's right about Americans? Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan?
Peas in a pod. Both Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have complete disdain for a large portion of Americans. They just disagree about whether nearly half are lazy, Obama-voting bums unwilling to give up their government handouts or nearly a third are.
. . . The contempt with which this pair holds tens of millions of Americans oozes from their pores and other orifices. On that score, we should consider ourselves lucky. Many plutocrats have learned how to conceal their scorn, making them far more palatable to voters who don't look past their veneer.
