Rand Paul Throws Down Gauntlet Over Plagiarism ~ Updated with Detention

Rand Paul keeps taking a new helping of words even while challenging Rachel Maddow of MSNBC to a Duel (as in, shooting her) over her reports about him. Blame the Haters!!!

“[U]nder thousands of things I’ve written, yeah, there are times when they’ve been sloppy or not correct or we’ve made an error. But the difference is I take it as an insult, and I will not lie down and say people can call me dishonest, misleading or misrepresenting. I have never intentionally done so.
“And like I say, if – you know, if dueling were legal in Kentucky, if they keep it up, you know, it’d be a duel challenge. But I can’t do that because I can’t hold office in Kentucky then.”
. . . I think I’m being unfairly targeted by a bunch of hacks and haters.”

There is nothing wrong with the reporting. . . . You can try to make this about me, but how about addressing the substance?
And now Rand Paul wants to shoot at me or stab me with a sword or something for reporting something true that he has done wrong as a politician. Responding to the person rather than to the charge is a time tested tactic. Honestly, it is a symptom of immaturity in our political discourse that it's expected that this is part of the way he'll respond.

 It annoys the hell out of me. I feel like if I could just go to detention after school for a couple days, then everything would be okay. But do I have to be in detention for the rest of my career?

Jim DeMint Pushes Vaginal Probe "Opportunities"

Jim DeMint: Cases like the Philadelphia abortionist that shows the horrendous conditions in these clinics that have actually killed women -- I mean, if we're talking about women 's health, we need to consider that. But now two-thirds of americans believe that after a baby's heart is beating and they can feel pain that they need some protection. So I'm glad to see a lot of states like Texas and Arkansas begin to consider this. and the more the ultrasounds have become part of the law where a woman gets the opportunity to see that there's a real child, it's beginning to change minds. and i think that's a good thing. it's time that the 3,000 babies we lose every day have some people speaking um for them.

Rachel Maddow: Women don’t ‘get the opportunity’ with ultrasound, the ultrasound bills are mandated by the state. So if a woman does not want an ultrasound, or if her doctor does not want her to have an ultrasound, if an ultrasound is not medically indicated, the state government is stepping in and saying: ‘You must have this ultrasound by order of the state government.’ In a lot of these what is being mandated is a vaginal ultrasound, so it’s an invasive, vaginal, forced procedure that a woman cannot say ‘no’ to by order of the state government. And that is all right with you. I understand that you feel that you've got an interest strong enough to override a woman’s desire to not have that happen to her, that you can insist that it does as a legislator. But most American women, I think, are going to balk at that. And if you want to make it a federal issue, I’d say that the Democrats are going to be delighted to have that fight. As Republicans push this further and further and further, it's the Wendy Davises of the world who are going to force you to make your arguments

Jason Richwine's "Low Immigrant IQ" Theory

Race is different in all sorts of ways, and probably the most important way is in IQ. Decades of psychometric testing has indicated that at least in America, you have Jews with the highest average IQ, usually followed by East Asians, then you have non-Jewish whites, Hispanics, and then blacks. These are real differences, and they're not going to go away tomorrow, and for that reason we have to address them in our immigration discussions and our debates.
. . . We have blacks, we have American Indians, and even early Mexican Americans, who have been living in the country for a long time, and who have not assimilated into the cultural mainstream as typified by white Americans.
Obviously I think with blacks we know that, at least in my opinion, I think black and white culture has if anything has diverged in the last 50 years rather than converged.
American Indians have been here a long time, and we still have Indian reservations.

Not surprisingly, Richwine’s remarks were warmly received on white nationalist blogs.

In the acknowledgement section of his dissertation, Richwine wrote, "I am indebted to the American Enterprise Institute for its generous support, without which this dissertation could not have been completed. In particular, I must thank Henry Olsen, vice president of AEI's National Research Initiative, for bringing me to AEI and supporting my research."
Richwine also thanked AEI scholar Charles Murray for his input, writing that "I could not have asked for a better primary advisor."

I don’t know how they can ever separate Richwine’s clearly racist world view from his contribution to the Heritage anti-immigrant report published this week. Moreover, how can they maintain any credibility as a serious think tank by keeping him on staff?

Jason Richwine, the co-author of a controversial immigration study released this week by the Heritage Foundation, tells Post Politics that he has resigned his position with the organization.
“Yes, that’s right,” Richwine wrote in a brief e-mail. Heritage confirmed that he resigned.

The study written by Richwine and Robert Rector argued that the immigration reform bill would cost $6.3 trillion, but it was widely panned by conservative groups pushing for immigration reform as not accounting for the economic benefits of immigrants.
Complicating matters were a series of revelations about Richwine, including that he had written a doctoral thesis at Harvard University arguing that the United States should focus its immigration efforts on those with high IQs and that he had written for a Web site that describes itself as “nationalist.”

Richwine’s 166-page dissertation, “IQ and Immigration Policy,” is now being used to smear him – and by extension, all of Heritage’s scholarship – as “racist.” While the punditocracy and political establishment sanctimoniously call for “honest discussions” on race, they rush to crush bona fide, dispassionate academic inquiries into the controversial subjects of intelligence, racial and ethnic differences, and domestic policy.
