Trump Unhinged

 photo nuts.jpg

President Trump's weird behavior and bizarre statements are nothing new to anyone who keeps up with politics, but this past week took the high-strangeness to a new level. It's hard to say whether Alzheimer's or some other illness is causing his moments of derangement, or whether his Narcissistic psyche is collapsing under the pressure of the Trump-Russia investigation and the Comey-firing backlash.

Whatever his malfunction happens to be, there's no doubt the White House is in chaos, and our country is being poorly led by a man unfit to serve.

Just a few headlines using the word "Unhinged" from this past week:

Vox: Trump Had An Unhinged Early Morning Tweet Storm After Firing Comey

Jeet Heer on New Republic: Trump's Unhinged Impromptu Press Conference Was a Lesson for Sean Spicer

Mediaite: Dem Congresswoman Kathleen Rice says Trump is "Unhinged" "Acting Like a Petulant Child"

Daily Kos: Unhinged Trump Attacks Democratic Senator Blumenthal With Fake News

Crazy Quotes from his Time Magazine Interview:

I don’t watch CNN. I don’t watch MSNBC.
(hint: not true - he often rants about both on Twitter and aides have leaked that he often yells at the TV)

Scarborough used to treat me great. But because I don’t do interviews and stuff and want to … He went the other way. Which is fine. He’s got some problems. But I don’t watch the show anymore. It drives him crazy. I don’t watch the show.
(Interpretation: Trump often refers to the show on Twitter, but now that Joe and Mika have gone from cheerleaders to critics, he pretends not to watch it)

CNN in the morning, Chris Cuomo, he’s sitting there like a chained lunatic. He’s like a boiler ready to explode, the level of hatred. And the entire, you know the entire CNN platform is that way. This Don Lemon who’s perhaps the dumbest person in broadcasting
(Cuomo is critical, and Don Lemon is critical and happens to be black).

As far as newspapers and things, I glance at them. They’re really dishonest. I mean they’re really dishonest.
(Interpretation: Denial and Fear)

You see a no-talent guy like Colbert. There’s nothing funny about what he says. And what he says is filthy. And you have kids watching. And it only builds up my base. It only helps me, people like him. The guy was dying. By the way they were going to take him off television, then he started attacking me and he started doing better. But his show was dying. I’ve done his show. … But when I did his show, which by the way was very highly rated. It was high—highest rating. The highest rating he’s ever had.
(Colbert has criticized Trump for years and recently made a crude oral sex joke about Trump and Putin, and clearly Trump was not amused)

Quotes from the Lester Holt NBC News Interview:

TRUMP: Look, (Comey) he's a showboat. He's a grandstander.
(Trump Projection of his own personality)

The FBI has been in turmoil. You know that, I know that, everybody knows that. You take a look at the FBI a year ago, it was in virtual turmoil -- less than a year ago. It hasn't recovered from that.
(No evidence of that whatsoever - only Twitter rumors from God knows who)

He (Deputy AG Rosenstein) had made a recommendation. But regardless of recommendation, I was going to fire Comey knowing there was no good time to do it
(Rosenstein says he was told to write a memo by AG Jeff Sessions, who also wrote a memo)

I said to myself -- I said, you know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story. It's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should've won.
(Russian tampering in our election has been reported and verified)

And the reason they should've won it is the electoral college is almost impossible for a Republican to win. It's very hard because you start off at such a disadvantage. So, everybody was thinking they should've won the election. This was an excuse for having lost an election.
(Republicans have won many times, but Trump had "help" with his disadvantage - from Russian tampering)

I had a dinner with him (Comey). He wanted to have dinner because he wanted to stay on. We had a very nice dinner at the White House...very early on. That dinner was arranged. I think he asked for the dinner. And he wanted to stay on as the FBI head. And I said I'll, you know, consider. We'll see what happens. But we had a very nice dinner. And at that time, he told you are not under investigation...
(Comey denies ever saying that to Trump)

And this part is key to understanding the King of Denial - just make stuff up, but also have a Freudian Slip or two:
HOLT: That was one meeting. When was the -- when was the other two?

TRUMP: First of all, when you're under investigation, you're giving all sorts of documents and everything. I knew I wasn't under. And I heard it was stated at the committee -- at some committee level that I wasn't, number one.
(Not the "number one" perp but clearly not off the hook either - right?)

HOLT: So, that didn't come directly from him.

TRUMP: Then, during a phone call, he said it. And then, during another phone call he said it.
(Did this really happen? Wait until Comey gets to testify about this point - it will be epic!)

So, he said it once at dinner and then he said it twice during phone calls.

HOLT: Did -- did you call him?

TRUMP: In one case I called him and one case he called me.

HOLT: And did you ask am I under investigation?

TRUMP: I actually asked him, yes. I said if it's possible, would you let me know am I under investigation. He said you are not under investigation.
(It's believable that Trump would have the audacity to call the FBI, but no one there would ruin an investigation by telling the subject about it, especially not the Director of the FBI)

Election Jokes of the Week March 20, 2016

 photo Jester.png

I’m speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain and I’ve said a lot of things.
~ Donald Trump on Morning Joe discussing his foreign policy consultant - himself

(Tuesday March 15 was a) Disappointing night for Bernie Sanders, which was a surprise; he was polling well among everyone's most annoying Facebook friends.
~ Jimmy Kimmel

I'd like to thank everyone for voting for me, and to everyone else for making your Facebook feed so so annoying! I mean, I love my supporters, but they're too much, right? I'm great, but I'm not five posts a day great. With all due respect to my supporters, get a life!
~ Larry David as Bernie Sanders on Saturday Night Live

Larry David/Bernie Sanders: Can I ask you something? What's a superdelegate? Who calls themselves that? It's so cocky! They walk around like they're such bigshots - Oooh, I beg your pardon, Mr. Superdelegate. Let me tell you something - I've met some of these superdelegates. They're not so super. Mediocre delegates is more like it.
Fake Jake Tapper: But Senator, many people believe you need these superdelegates.
Larry David/Bernie Sanders: Not true, not true. I have the voters. My message is resonating with a very diverse group of white people. And I've got supporters of all ages. 18 year olds, 19 year olds. Yeah, that's it. The young people love me, Tapper, because I'm like them. I got alot of big plans and absolutely no idea how to achieve them.
Fake Jake Tapper: You're still struggling with minorities. Why do you think you don't attract them?
Larry David/Bernie Sanders: Because I look like someone who at some point told them, 'Hey, get out of my store."

Ben Carson, Trump and Bernie Sanders Skit SNL

Donald and I are like night and day, ebony and orange-y. And sure, we've had our polite disagreements - I question his knowledge on health care, and he called me a psycho and a child-molester.
~ Fake Ben Carson on Saturday Night Live

Even if Donald Trump turns out not to be such a great president, which I don't think is the case, I think he's going to surround himself with really good people. But even if he didn't, we're only looking at four years as opposed to multiple generations, and perhaps the loss of the American dream forever.
~ Unintentional joke from the real Dr. Ben Carson, ex-GOP candidate for President

It was reported yesterday that an op-ed written by Donald Trump seems to have been blatantly plagiarized from an article written by Dr. Ben Carson days before. People first became suspicious when Trump’s op-ed began, “As a black doctor…”
~ Seth Myers

DICKERSON: You once said that choosing between Trump and Cruz is like the difference between being shot or poisoned. So, how is your health?
GRAHAM: Well, you can -- maybe they will find an antidote to poisoning. It's hard once you're shot to get over it.
~ John Dickerson on CBS Face the Nation and Senator Lindsey Graham, March 20

The hacking group “Anonymous” has apparently declared war against Donald Trump. Of course, hacking him shouldn’t be hard, because if there's anyone who just uses their name as their password, it's Donald Trump.
~ Jimmy Fallon

And if Ted Cruz is right, if every single anti-Trump voter unites behind him, he could get enough delegates to be the nominee. Then the GOP establishment can say 'Goodbye, candidate we don't like! Hello, candidate we can't stand!'
~ Stephen Colbert

If Cruz can't do it, there's one other way to deny Trump the nomination: a 'brokered convention.' You see when a candidate wins a primary, he really wins delegates who are committed to him at the party convention. But only for the first ballot. So if Trump doesn't get 1,237 delegates in the first round of voting they're all free to vote for whoever. This is great news: the Republican campaign could start all over again, but this time it's crammed into one week. You can binge-watch the death of the GOP.
~ Stephen Colbert

Reopublicans don't like calling it a 'brokered convention.' They have a much nicer name - ('open convention'). I'm sorry, not 'brokered,' 'open,' Just like, 'Honey, we don't have a broken marriage, we have an open marriage. And I know we never discussed it, but it will spice things up to bring in an outsider. And I think we'll end up trusting each other even more. Stronger.'

Right-Wing Troll Todd Kincannon Says Kill the Ebola Victims

Wingnuts Blame Obama for Ebola Virus Because "African"

Todd Kincannon is a foul-mouthed twitter troll and a lawyer who brags that his family money will get him out of any trouble. He was also once leader of the South Carolina Republican Party, but they have distanced themselves (even though some of them probably love his nasty tweets).

Well, yeah - that guy thinks we ought to just kill the victims of Ebola.

Did I mention he is pro-life?

And really there's no end to his horribleness. Execution for sick people is just the tip of the shit-show with him. He will mention any body part of any human, particularly democrats, used in any vile way on his twitter account, and he's completely shameless about his racism and misogyny. When I read his tweets I am at a loss to understand why anyone would spend their days spreading filth all over twitter, but that's what he has been doing for years now. What a waste of time.

Stephen Colbert had some choice words for him:

My home state of South Carolina has a plan to eradicate this virus. As former executive director of the GOP and current middle school debate club treasurer Tom (Todd) Kincannon tweeted, "The protocol for a positive Ebola test should be immediate humane execution and sanitization of the whole area. That will save lives."

Finally, a way to save lives. Humanely execute the victim.

Of course the shotgun-blast to his chest could spread some bodily fluids. So to be saved, someone will have to compassionately murder whoever executed the patient, and that person of course will have to be sensitively bludgeoned to death by a fourth person, and so on and so on. Until the chain of humane homicide makes it back to whomever wonderful idea this was (shows pic of Todd Kincannon).

The Joke's on #CancelColbert Movement as Comedian Gets Late Night Show on CBS

 photo 1248749021287.jpg

CBS announced today that Stephen Colbert is going to take over the show Late Night when David Letterman retires next year. This is great news for comedy fans, but bad news for other late-night comedians who lost out including Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel, and Chelsea Handler (if you think she's funny, that is). Still, Colbert is what CBS needs to beat Jimmy Fallon of NBC's Tonight Show in the ratings war, and David Letterman had mentioned Colbert last week as a possible successor.

But for Twitter users, what's so satisfying about Colbert going on to a more high-profile job with an even bigger audience is that just a week or so ago a misunderstood joke about a minority group led to a controversial hashtag #CancelColbert. The hashtag caused a twitterstorm for days, and has even been immortalized at Know Your Meme and pages on Storify Here and Here and those are just two of many. (My blog was like Storify before it was cool, LOL)

More background on that below - scroll down.

Today when CBS announced that Colbert would take over Late Night, much Schadenfreude was had by tweeps poking fun at the fact that the hashtag did indeed work - his show on Comedy Central will be cancelled, but not because they tweeted, only because he is getting a plum-job. Oh, and Colbert was never a bigot in the first place but only playing one on TV.

First the announcement about Late Night:

From CBS News
CBS President and CEO Les Moonves said after seriously considering about a dozen candidates, it became obvious that Colbert was the best choice.
“We said, ‘my God, there’s one guy who just stands out to replace David who is original, who’s smart, who’s funny, who fits with who we are, and it was Stephen Colbert,’” Moonves told CBS Radio national correspondent Dan Raviv.
Colbert said he never dreamed he would follow in Letterman’s footsteps.
“I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me,” he said in a statement. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to grind a gap in my front teeth.”

From David Letterman:
Letterman released this statement: “Stephen has always been a real friend to me. I’m very excited for him, and I’m flattered that CBS chose him. I also happen to know they wanted another guy with glasses.”

What some people have apparently missed over the years is that Colbert isn't himself on Comedy Central, but playing a parody of a Conservative Pundit straight off of Fox News. Chris Hayes referred to it on MSNBC as Colbert's "O'Reilly Act" referring to conservative Bill O'Reilly of Fox. That's why he has sometimes confused the lesser-light Republicans who have been on his show as he seemed to agree with them even while mocking the GOP. But this isn't rocket science, and most people who have a sense of humor got the joke to begin with, even on the Right.

The Colbert Persona, described by New York Times in 2012 when Colbert was making a fake run in the Republican Primary (yes, that was part of the schtick):
The Colbert character, whose taped descent, godlike, from the empyrean while clutching an American flag begins every show, was originally intended as a takeoff on Fox News figures like Sean Hannity and especially Bill O’Reilly. Though Colbert doesn’t much resemble O’Reilly physically, the persona has mastered some of O’Reilly’s pen-wielding, hand-stabbing gestures, and his credentials as a right-wing blowhard are beyond doubt. He thinks that gays will go to hell, that a flaming moat should be built around America to keep out immigrants and that Christianity is, or ought to be, the official national religion. He believes not in truth but in “truthiness,” a term of his own invention.
. . . The Colbert on-screen persona is actually less rigid than it used to be, and Colbert can dial it up or down as he chooses. There is now more of a winking quality to the act, a sense that we’re all in on the joke.

 photo whatever.gif

Okay, so that last part has been lost on some self-absorbed people, including Anti-Bigot Suey Park, an Asian-American woman living in Chicago.

Here's that part of the saga, which started as Colbert made a joke about Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder. To make his point, Colbert made a joke about Asian-Americans, using one of the trigger words "Oriental" which can drive many Asian activists right out of their minds (and it worked!)

From Dave Weigel on Slate:
Stephen Colbert made sport of Washington football team owner Dan Snyder and his plan to undercut criticism of the team name by founding an organization for the uplift of "original Americans." Colbert ran though all the reasons why this was funny, then called back to a skit from one of the show's first episodes, way back from the fall of 2005—a joke about the host being caught on a "live feed" playing a racist Asian stereotype (Ching Chong Ding Dong, from Guanduong), then not understanding why it was racist. Colbert would make amends with his new "Ching Chong Ding Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever."
. . . the official Twitter account of The Colbert Report tweeted a short version of the joke: "I am willing to show #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever." Bad move. This attracted the ire of a 23-year-old freelance writer and hashtag activist named Suey Park, who gained prominence last year with the #NotYourAsianSidekick micromovement.

As he says, Suey Park is a "hashtag activist" so she invented one, and sent the Twitterverse into a frenzy:

About half of Twitter got behind Suey Park, cheering her on as a hero taking on a bully, and confused people from both the Right and the Left jumped on the Angry Asian train with vitriol directed at Colbert. The Conservatives and Libertarians who use hashtag #tcot jumped on the bandwagon because they hate his biting satire towards the GOP - they get the joke! They twisted Park's hashtag to attack the Left, thanks to Suey Park's overreaction.

Suey Park was so naive she allied herself with Queen of Hate Michelle Malkin, also Asian-American but a rabid Fox News contributor who hates every other group on the planet. Malkin was more than happy to help Park lead the charge against Colbert.

Some people missed the point of both the Hashtag and the Uproar:

 photo cancelcolberttwittersueyparkdoesn27.png

Meanwhile, the rest of Twitter
mocked the nonsense of it all:

Bob Cesca of The Daily Banter summed up what happened in "When Hashtag Activism Totally Lost Its Narrative" :
In a recent interview, Colbert stated quite clearly that his role isn’t to prescribe solutions to problems, but instead to mock through exaggeration and caricaturization the people who are responsible for the problems. It’s difficult to think of another performer working in television today who’s been more effective at this task.
Now, sure, I concede that the name “Ching-Chong Ding-Dong” is in and of itself offensive. But here’s the thing: it was supposed to be. It was supposed to be shocking in order to underscore how shocking it is, in Colbert’s view (the man’s, not the character’s), that “Redskins” is seriously the name of a professional football team in 2014. In other words, it was a spot-on comment about the shocking offensiveness of the word “redskins.” If his satirical charity wasn’t at all offensive, how could it ever adequately comment upon the offensiveness of “Redskins?”

Suey Park tried to explain that she sees Colbert as "The White Oppressor":

 photo Suey_Par_Facebook_Screencap.jpg

An interview the next day with Salon:
A lot of white America and so-called liberal people of color, along with conservatives, ask, “Do I understand context?” And that’s part of wanting to completely humanize the oppressor.
To see the white man as always reasonable, always pure, always deliberate, always complex and always innocent. And to see the woman of color as literal. Both my intent behind the hashtag and in my [unintelligible] distance, is always about forcing an apology on me for not understanding their context when, in reality, they misunderstood us when they made us a punch line again. So it’s always this logic of how can we understand whiteness better, and that’s never been my politics. I’ve always been about occupying the margins and strengthening the margins and what that means is that, for a long time, whiteness has also occupied the margins. Like, people of color get in circles with no white people in the room and we see that whiteness still operates. So I think it’s kind of a shock for America that whiteness has dominant society already, it also seeps into the margins. What happens the one time when the margins seep into the whiteness and we encroach on their space? It’s like the sky is falling.
. . . anything I say as a joke or in all seriousness gets dismissed. I must apologize, I must X, Y, Z. I will get rape and death threats for not thinking Colbert is funny, or for trying to crack my own jokes about race. And I think that’s unfair, cause in the same way he thinks Orientalism is backward and old, but he still uses it to make a point. For every time he does that, it should be more than justifiable for me to actually target the system of structural advantage that is whiteness and to be able to make jokes about white supremacists, which I do all the time in my work. I always paint my white characters to be singular, to be ignorant...
. . . Colbert did when he chose to ruin an opportunity to make a point about racism in America by using more racism. So he’s the one that destroyed an opportunity to shed light on Dan Snyder and the Redskins the moment that he chose to use Orientalism and a foreign accent to make his point. And so, I think in that sense, it’s Colbert that lacks context. It’s Colbert that doesn’t realize how he’s using racism as a vehicle to end racism, which is really just circular logic and doesn’t lead to an end destination of liberation, so I think if you are going to do it, you can’t draw parallels. Orientalism and genocide are actually not relative or comparable in social location.

Suey Park also did an interview on HuffPost Live, and that turned out badly too, via WaPo:
Fireworks entered the picture when Park found problems with how Zepps was framing the issue of satire and racism: “I feel like it’s incredibly patronizing for you to paint these questions this way, especially as a white man. I don’t expect you to be able to understand what people of color are actually seeing with regard to #CancelColbert. He has a history of making jokes…”

Interrupting a touch, Zepps responded that being a white man doesn’t keep him from “being able to think.”
This wasn’t headed in a good direction. “Well, white men definitely feel like they’re entitled to talk over me,” said Park. “They definitely feel like they’re entitled to kind of minimalize my experiences…”

Zepps: “No one’s minimalizing your experiences, no one’s minimalizing your right to have an opinion,” he said, before amping up the scorn: “It’s just a stupid opinion.”
Park: “You just called my opinion stupid, you just called my opinion stupid. That’s incredibly unproductive. And I don’t think I’m going to enact the labor of explaining to you why it’s incredibly offensive and patronizing.”

Now, here's the "Revenge is Sweet" part of the saga that happened today as Colbert was being named the heir apparent to Letterman, and people rushed to point out the irony to Suey Park and other #CancelColbert aficionados in case they didn't get the joke again, LOL:

Reporter Snark about "Friends of Hamas" Becomes Fake GOP Talking Point

Photobucket

Ben Shapiro on Breitbart
On Thursday, Senate sources told Breitbart News exclusively that they have been informed that one of the reasons that President Barack Obama’s nominee for Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel, has not turned over requested documents on his sources of foreign funding is that one of the names listed is a group purportedly called “Friends of Hamas.”
. . . Called for comment and reached via telephone, Associate Communications Director at the White House Eric Schultz identified himself, heard the question, was silent for several seconds, and then hung up the phone immediately without comment. Called back via the White House switchboard, Schultz’s phone rang through to his answering machine. Called on his cell phone, Schultz’s phone rang through to his answering machine.

Photobucket

From the Hugh Hewitt Conservative Talk Show with Rand Paul
HH: Well, let’s stay focused on Friends Of Hamas. Obviously, that would be a support group for a terrorist organization. Can you imagine voting or not filibustering anyone who’d received support from supporters of a terrorist organization?
Rand Paul: Like I say, it’s very troubling. And I’ve just seen the press report, so I’m going to have to look at what the response is, what the group is, and that kind of thing. But it is very concerning.

If it proves true the rumors of Chuck Hagel's having received funds from Friends of Hamas, if that's true then on its face that would disqualify him.
~ Conservative Radio and TV Pundit, and ex-Republican Candidate, Mike Huckabee

Rumors abound on Capitol Hill that a full disclosure of Hagel’s professional ties would reveal financial relationships with a number of “unsavory” groups, including one purportedly called “Friends of Hamas.” The GOP aide said it was “noteworthy” that the White House has yet to deny the association. “Maybe it’s not true, but why not provide a list of groups he spoke to and remove all doubt?” the aide said.
~ National Review

Well this is certainly an eye opener. According to Senate sources, the reason Hagel hasn’t released documents on his sources of foreign funding is because he received funding by a group named “Friends of Hamas”.
~ The Right Scoop

That is quite the accusation, and it gives the Left a rare opportunity to go after the Breitbart constellation of websites. All they have to do to debunk it is to have Hagel reveal his foreign donors. I mean, how likely is it that the White house could have messed up vetting Chuck Hagel that badly…
~ Moe Lane on Red State

But Wait Just a Minute . . .

"Friends of Hamas": The Scary-Sounding Pro-Hagel Group That Doesn't Actually Exist
Here's the problem: There's no proof that "Friends of Hamas" actually exists. At best, it's an organization so secret that nobody in government has thought to mention its existence. At worst, it's as fake as Manti Te'o's girlfriend. The Treasury Department, which designates sponsors of terror, has done so to many charities tied to Hamas. "Friends of Hamas" is not among them. The State Department doesn't designate it, either. And a bit less holistically, a Lexis search for the group reveals absolutely nothing.
~ David Weigel on Slate, and one of the first to realize that Friends of Hamas does not exist

Oh, Perhaps This is Why . . .

Dan Friedman of New York Daily News
Fortunately for Hagel, this claim, which galloped across the Internet, was bogus. I know, because I was the unwitting source.
. . . On Feb. 6, I called a Republican aide on Capitol Hill with a question: Did Hagel’s Senate critics know of controversial groups that he had addressed?
Hagel was in hot water for alleged hostility to Israel. So, I asked my source, had Hagel given a speech to, say, the “Junior League of Hezbollah, in France”? And: What about “Friends of Hamas”?
The names were so over-the-top, so linked to terrorism in the Middle East, that it was clear I was talking hypothetically and hyperbolically. No one could take seriously the idea that organizations with those names existed — let alone that a former senator would speak to them.
. . . I erred in counting on confidentiality and the understanding that my example was farcical — and by assuming no one would print an unchecked rumor.
If anyone didn’t know already: Partisan agendas, Internet reporting and old-fashioned carelessness can move complete crocks fast. If you see a story on Hagel addressing the Junior League of Hezbollah, that’s fake too.

Shapiro is Kinda Ticked-Off . . .

NY Daily News Hack Posits He's Source of 'Friends of Hamas,' Lies by Omission
. . . Friedman knew his story was false when he printed it. He printed it anyway. The story Breitbart News ran originally was accurate and clearly caveated. Dan Friedman was not the source of the information given to Breitbart News. But the media is already jumping to help Friedman push his narrative. It’s all part of the mission to protect Barack Obama and Chuck Hagel. Because, after all, this is the most easily debunked story in the world: all Chuck Hagel has to do is release his records.

~ Andrew Shapiro on Breitbart AFTER Friends of Hamas was shown to be Bogus Group

~~~~~~~~~~~~
If the rumor-mongering was limited to conservative blogs, it wouldn’t be as worrisome. Unfortunately, prominent Republicans have been all too keen to go along with the line of questioning started by Breitbart.
~ Think Progress
So … Chuck Hagel has no ties to a group called “Friends of Hamas.” Ahem … Because no such group exists. But right wingers, and the McCarthyite Senators they’ve gone and elected, and their silly “news” cable channel, and their talk radio guys, and their blogs, just need, NEED, NEEEEED, to hate Barack Obama and everyone around him so desperately, they’ll believe damned near everything.
. . . And therein lies the problem with the right. They start at the end, rather than the beginning — so filled with the desire to believe the worst, that they’ll just as easily believe the stupidest.
~ The Reid Report
Stephen Colbert on Comedy Central, February 21, 2013
Senate Republicans have found all sorts of shady associations in Hagel's past. For instance, he was once a Senate Republican.
(laughter)
And now, according to conservative news anger-gator Breitbart.com, Hagel may have taken money from an organization called "Friends of Hamas."
(laughter and boos)
Friends of Hamas, that is serious. Being friends with a Muslim terrorist is a big commitment. (laughter) You've got to be groomsman in all four of their weddings. I mean, the suicide vest-rental alone . . .
(laughter)
Folks, this bombshell has lit up the conserve-o-sphere.
(plays audio about Breitbart, Rand Paul, and Fox News talking about Friends of Hamas)
Lou Dobbs of Fox: Friends of Hamas. That has a ring to it.
Colbert: Yes, that has a ring to it. A ring that goes something like this:
(Rings large bell, sound of Arab women making high-pitched sound - audience laughs and claps)
And folks, Friends of Hamas is even worse than it sounds because this organization is so sinister that it doesn't even exist.
It turns out Hagel's link with Friends of Hamas goes back to Daily News Reporter Dan Friedman who asked a Republican Senate Aide looking for dirt in Hagel's past if Hagel had given a speech to the "Junior League of Hezbollah" or the "Friends of Hamas" - "assuming that no one could take seriously the idea that organizations with those names existed."
(laughter)
Why wouldn't you take it seriously?
I mean, if there's no Junior League of Hezbollah then who puts out the cookbook of Bomb Recipes?
Besides, the fact that these organizations don't exist only makes it more suspicious that Chuck Hagel has been tied to them!
What else is he hiding that hasn't happened?
(laughter)
Is he a member of the Al Qaeda Kidz Club?
What about the Muslim Brotherhood?
Or the Muslim Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants?
(laughter and clapping)
And what about Non-Islamic Non-Existant Groups?
Has Chuck Hagel ever given a speech to Cobra, or for that matter Cobra Kai?
Has he received donations from the Lollipop Guild?
(laughter)
What are his ties to the Dead Poets Society? And why are they dead? Do they know too much about Benghazi?
(laughter)
President Obama, you must withdraw Hagel's nomination or you will lose the support of of every Moderate Republican, another group that doesn't exist.
The Romney's Horse in the London Olympics
Photobucket
Story from the LA Times
Ann Romney’s dressage horse, Rafalca, and her trainer, Jan Ebeling, earned a place on the U.S. Olympic Equestrian team on Saturday, cementing the Romneyfamily’s already deep ties to the Olympic games. The official announcement is expected to come Sunday by the U.S. Equestrian Federation.
Rafalca and Ebeling will compete for the U.S. in the London Summer Games.
The Romneys’ involvement in dressage has raised the profile of the sport, linking it to the American presidential campaign in a way that has brought both adulation and mild ridicule as some have poked fun at dressage as a sport of the elite.
Kenneth Braddick of Dressage News said Ebeling had “the best performance of his life” Saturday at the second of two Olympic trials at the U.S. Equestrian Federation national dressage championships in Gladstone, N.J. In a post on the website, Dressage News, Braddick wrote that Ebling has also taken in stride the ribbing he’s gotten from comedians such as Stephen Colbert.
The Wild Trumpus Starts on CNN - with Colbert Update
Photobucket
Note: On the same day Romney reached enough delegates to be the Republican Presidential nominee for 2012, his "surrogate" Donald "Birther" Trump went on Wolf Blitzer's CNN Situation Room and had meltdown over President Obama's Birth Certificate on life TV:
Stephen Colbert Update:
According to RealClearPolitics Average of Polls, Obama leads Romney by 45.6 percent to Romney's 43.6%. How is Mitt going to get to that 50.1% up here? He's already got the fiscal conservatives and the social conservatives mixed in - that's not enough!
Now Trump gets him the Birthers, but now he's got to reach out to the 9-11 Truthers, the Alien Abductees, the Doomsday Preppers, the Sasquatch Hunters, the Sasquatches, or "Sasqueetch."
Sh** - that's only 50%!
How does he get that tiny sliver? That's going to be tough. Who represents such a miniscule portion of Americans? Wait! I've got it - all Mitt needs are the blacks who like Donald Trump. (Shows Video of Trump saying "The winner is Arsenio Hall" on The Apprentice.)
50.1! 50.1! Mitt, you're hired!
 From the CNN Transcript Situation Room May 29, 2012
 TRUMP: Obama does not like the issue of where he was born. His own publisher, as you know, using his words, said he was born in Kenya and he lived in Indonesia. Of course, now he's denying that, amazingly.
So -- but I'm not here to talk about that. I'm here to talk, as you said you would, jobs, China, what's going on with respect to China and how they're ripping this country, what's going on with respect to OPEC and how the nations of OPEC are laughing at the stupidity of our country. That's what I'm here to talk about.
BLITZER: All right.
TRUMP: You know that's what I'm here to talk about, and I thought your introduction was highly inappropriate. But that's OK, because I have gotten to know you over the years.
BLITZER: Well, I -- well, listen, Donald, first of all, I never said we weren't going talk about the birther issue. We had a conversation earlier today. We didn't discuss at all what we were going to talk about...
. . . *SNIP*
TRUMP: Now, you won't report it, Wolf, but many people do not think it was authentic.
His mother was not in the hospital. There are many other things that came out. And, frankly, if you would report it accurately, I think you would probably get better ratings than you're getting, which are pretty small.
BLITZER: Donald, have you seen the actual newspaper announcements within days of his birth in Honolulu, for example, "The Honolulu Star- Bulletin"? We will put it up there. You see the birth announcement back in 1961.
(CROSSTALK)
BLITZER: Listen to me, Donald.
(CROSSTALK)
BLITZER: Can I ask...
(CROSSTALK)
TRUMP: Am I allowed to talk, if you could stop defending Obama?
(CROSSTALK)
BLITZER: Donald, Donald, you're beginning to sound a little ridiculous, I have to tell you.
TRUMP: No, I think you are, Wolf.
Let me tell you something. I think you sound ridiculous. And if you would ask me a question and let me answer it, instead of making...
BLITZER: Here's the question. Did the conspiracy start in 1961, when "The Honolulu-Star Bulletin" and ""The Honolulu Advertiser" contemporaneously published announcements that he was born in Hawaii?
TRUMP: That's right.
And many people put those announcements in because they wanted to get the benefit of being so-called so-called born in this country. Many people did it. It was something that was done by many people,even if they weren't born in the country. You know it, and so do I. And so do a lot of your viewers.
. . . *SNIP*
BLITZER: Donald, let me tell you -- let me tell you who hates this subject. It is Mitt Romney, who totally disagrees with you on this, including today. He issued a statement.
(CROSSTALK)
TRUMP: I don't speak to Mitt Romney about it.
(CROSSTALK)
BLITZER: Is Mitt Romney a Democrat? Is he an Obama supporter?
TRUMP: Mitt -- what I speak to Mitt Romney about is jobs. What I speak to Mitt Romney about is China, because he's got a great view on China and how they're trying to destroy our country by taking our jobs and making our product and manipulating their currency, so that it makes it almost impossible for our companies to compete.
What I speak to him about is OPEC. I don't speak to him about this. You bring it up because you feel it's probably going to get a few more people watching your station, which, unfortunately, they're not doing.
BLITZER: Here's what Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said today -- today, not yesterday, not last week, not six months ago -- "Governor Romney has said repeatedly that he believes President Obama was born in the United States."
Now, he's not a Democrat.
TRUMP: OK.
BLITZER: He's not an Obama supporter. He's Governor Romney, the Republican nominee. He says you're wrong.
TRUMP: You know what?
Everybody is entitled to their opinion, Wolf. You know my opinion. You know his opinion. And that's fine. We're entitled, as he said yesterday in the airplane, we're all entitled to our opinions. And he's entitled to his opinion and I think that's wonderful. I don't happen to share that opinion. And that's wonderful, also.
BLITZER: But the state of Hawaii says it's not an opinion, it's a fact.
TRUMP: No, I don't think so. I think if you look at the birth certificate, take a look and you tell me, really. You analyze the birth certificate. There are many people that don't agree with that birth certificate. They don't think it's authentic, Wolf.
BLITZER: I don't know when you say many people who don't agree...
TRUMP: Many people.
BLITZER: Like who?
TRUMP: There are many people...
BLITZER: Give me an -- give me a name of somebody...
TRUMP: There are many people...
BLITZER: -- in a position of authority...
TRUMP: -- that do not believe...
BLITZER: -- in Hawaii who says -- but give me a name.
TRUMP: There are many people -- I don't give names. There are many people that do not believe that birth certificate is authentic.
BLITZER: Well, you know what...
TRUMP: Many people.
