Our Patriotic Moment Has Come - Trump is Toast

As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to hold a vote on Impeachment this Thursday, and as the so-called President is taunted while watching the Washington Nationals play baseball with chants of "Lock Him Up" from the crowd,as well as by protestors when he visited Chicago today. Have we reached our patriotic turn of the tide at last in this country? Dare we hope that this is the beginning of the end of Trump's reign of insanity?

Is this like the moment in Casablanca when Lazslo tells the band to play Le Marseillaise?

Paul Ryan Blames Lazy "Inner City Men" For Culture Fail - Updated: Black Constituent Calls Him Out

Paul Ryan went on the radio with conservative host Bill Bennett and managed once again to say something typically untrue and insensitive, a complete dog whistle to the racist right, with echoes of the disparaging slam on "urban voters" during Ryan's campaign to be Mitt Romney's Vice President.

(speaking to Bill Bennett) You know your buddy Charles Murray or Bob Putnam over at Harvard – those guys have written books on this. Which is, we have got this tailspin of culture in our inner cities in particular of men not working. And just generations of men not even thinking about working or learning the value and the culture of work and so there’s a real culture problem here that has to be dealt with.”
~ Paul Ryan via Talking Points Memo

After being criticized by all sides,he tried to walk it back, especially for referencing racist Charles Murray, Paul Ryan tried to walk this back but never actually apologized, of course. He's not into that. Here is his non-apology apology.

After reading the transcript of yesterday morning’s interview, it is clear that I was inarticulate about the point I was trying to make. I was not implicating the culture of one community—but of society as a whole.
We have allowed our society to isolate or quarantine the poor rather than integrate people into our communities. The predictable result has been multi-generational poverty and little opportunity. I also believe the government’s response has inadvertently created a poverty trap that builds barriers to work. A stable, good-paying job is the best bridge out of poverty.
The broader point I was trying to make is that we cannot settle for this status quo and that government and families have to do more and rethink our approach to fighting poverty. I have witnessed amazing people fighting against great odds with impressive success in poor communities. We can learn so much from them, and that is where this conversation should begin.

UPDATE: Paul Ryan was confronted with his words by a constituent at a Town Hall meeting, and again he insisted to the incredulous man that his words were not racist (so just ignore that Charles Murray "some races are lazy" reference).

Via ThinkProgress
“You said what you meant,” Alfonso Gardner, a 61-year-old African American man from Racine, told Ryan at a town hall meeting. “[Inner city is] a code word for black.”
Ryan remained defiant though. “There is nothing whatsoever about race in my comments at all,” he said. He admonished Gardner for drawing a connection between his “inner city” remarks and race. “I think when we throw these charges around, it should be based on something.”

Ya Think? Take Your Own Advice, Paul Ryan!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are few words that can describe such a deeply ignorant comment, but shameful, disturbing, and wrong offer a good start.
~ Drew Hammill, spokesperson for Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-California
My colleague Congressman Ryan’s comments about “inner city” poverty are a thinly veiled racial attack and cannot be tolerated. Let’s be clear, when Mr. Ryan says “inner city,” when he says, “culture,” these are simply code words for what he really means: “black.”
As someone who sits on the Budget Committee with Mr. Ryan, I know that his assertions about the racial dynamics of poverty are not only statistically inaccurate, but deeply offensive.
~ Congresswoman Barbara Lee, D-California
Paul said he thought it was inarticulate, but quite frankly, Democrats are lying in wait as well to pounce on whatever might be off tone. Why was Paul even talking about this? The reason he was talking about it because he's devoted a large part of his life, starting back when he worked with Jack Kemp, on finding ways to tackle poverty, to free up capital, to create opportunities in urban areas around this country.
~ National Republican Committee Chairman, Reince Priebus
Blow, blow, blow into that dog whistle, Paul. In case he wasn't being clear enough, though, Ryan cited Charles Murray, a conservative political scientist who has argued that race and IQ are genetically linked and "a lot of poor people are born lazy."
~ Laura Clewson on Daily Kos
. . . the problems plaguing the inner city aren’t created by culture. They are the indirect result of government policies. And it’s going to take progressive government policies to solve them.
Which means you were right about one thing, congressman: to end the intergenerational cycle of joblessness and poverty, there is a group of taxpayer supported inner-city people who definitely have to learn something about the culture of work. Namely, you and the rest of your colleagues in the “do-nothing Congress” in Washington, D.C.
Quotes from the First Day of Congress 2013
Photobucket
Public service was never meant to be an easy living. Extraordinary challenges demand extraordinary leadership.
So if you have come here to see your name in lights or to pass off political victory as accomplishment, you have come to the wrong place. The door is behind you.
If you have come here humbled by the opportunity to serve; if you have come here to be the determined voice of the people; if you have come here to carry the standard of leadership demanded not just by our constituents but by the times, then you have come to the right place.
There is a time to every purpose under Heaven. For the 113th Congress, it is a time to rise. When the day is over, and the verdict is read, may it be said that we well and faithfully did our duty to ensure freedom will endure and prevail.
So help us God.
~ Re-elected House Speaker John Boehner, R-OH
I know all too well that we will not always agree. But I hope, with all my heart that we find common ground that is a higher, better place for our country.
House Minority Leader and Ex-Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California
Being Speaker today is no bargain, I tell you. ...John is really a voice of reason in our conference, despite some of the things I said yesterday.
~ Rep. Peter King, R-NY, on John Boehner, even though the day before King had criticized the Speaker for failing to pass a Hurricane Sandy relief package
(Being Speaker is) a lot like being a caretaker of a cemetery — a lot of people under you but nobody listens.
~ Congressman Hal Rogers, R-Kentucky, stealing a line from Ex-Senator Bill Frist, R-TN
‘Fire Boehner’ GOP’ers Beclown Themselves As Representatives Fail To Agree On Single Protest Candidate
Conservatives in the House have voted for anyone who is basically not Boehner – but few voted for the same protest candidate. Individuals who received votes for Speaker include Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Justin Amash (R-MI), Raul Labrador (R-ID), Eric Cantor, U.S Comptroller General David Walker and even former Rep. Allen West (R-FL).
A number of House Republicans, unsatisfied with any possible protest candidate or simply satisfied in sending a message of noncompliance, abstained from the vote.
~ Mediaite
We can’t be about business as usual. It’s time for a change at the top. Congress is so full of brilliant, talented people.
(Gohmert had nothing to lose with the vote because...) I mean already from two years ago, any chairmanship that I might get, I didn’t get. I mean I guess the only one that the Speaker doesn’t have a say in nixing was, I am co-chair of the Thursday morning prayer breakfast Bible study. But other than that…
~ Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-TX on why he voted against John Boehner, and instead voted for Ex-Rep Alan West, R-Florida, who isn't even in the House anymore after losing his race
Hey, Mom, ya done good, Mom.
Hey, Sis, come over here.
You are so beautiful, Holy Mackeral.
God love you.
Spread your legs, you're gonna be frisked.
Anybody else want to be sworn in to the Senate today?
~ Phrases used by a non-politically correct VP Joe Biden
as he was swearing in new Senators
We have women, Hispanics, African-Americans. It's diverse. It looks like our country and hopefully beyond that we will be able to get together and deal with the problems of the country and I think everybody is committed to doing that.
~ Rep Joe Garcia, D-Florida
But I think now we're seeing Congress starting to catch up with where a lot of the rest of the country is and seeing a lot of diversity and representation here that brings different voices to people's house.
~ Rep Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii
TimScott-R-SC
I’m certainly aware. I haven’t missed the fact that there is a uniqueness about my presence in the Senate, yes.
Each Senator has the responsibility of representing their state and the nation. That’s plenty of pressure by itself.
~ Tim Scott, R-South Carolina, appointed by Gov. Nikki Haley to replace Jim DeMint. Scott is the first black Senator from the south since Reconstruction, and the ONLY black Senator at this time
I was looking out at what was in front of me. And it was just great. I mean, when I first came here, there were six of us. And today I was just looking out at this roomful of us.
. . . To look at it today and see how it's changed, the colors, the bright colors (of the women's clothing). It looks more like America now.
~ Senator Patty Murray, D-Wash, on the 20 Senate Women sworn in today
Photobucket
That's the first time I've ever been on the Senate floor, literally the first time.
~ Senator Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass, about her swearing in ceremony with VP Joe Biden
I know people come with big fancy family Bibles. Mine’s a little more modest.
~ Elizabeth Warren on using her tattered third-grade King James Bible for the swearing in ceremoney
Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), the first woman elected on her own to the U.S. Senate . . . barely came up to Warren's shoulder as the two embraced on the floor of the upper chamber. Mikulski attached an official Senate pin to the lapel of the incoming senator's pantsuit. Think of it, Mikulski said she told Warren, as "like the Croix de Guerre for all the battles we women have fought."
"Congratulations," Mikulski said, with her eyes watering as she beat her hand against her heart. "You stand here now in the footsteps of so many women who for so long would have liked to have been here, should have been here, but didn't get the shot. You've got the chance. You have a band of sisters. And we're going to not only make history, we're going to change history."
~ Huffington Post
We’re making progress -- 20 and counting. I don’t think we should be satisfied until we have the same number of women in the Senate that represent a percentage of the population.
~ Senator Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri
Sarah Palin Calls Pelosi a "Dingbat" & Obama a "Tool"
Photobucket
Nancy Pelosi is a dingbat, and she is the perfect spokesperson for this whole agenda of the far left running the Democrat party.
~ Sarah Palin to Sean Hannity on Fox News
From Business Insider:
"About the 15 percent of Americans who aren't paying taxes and are feeding from President Obama's hands, perhaps they will vote for such a tool," she said. "But the rest of Americans need to stand up and say, 'No more.'"
An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll this week put Obama ahead of Romney, 47 to 44 percent, which is much higher than 15 percent.
Ad Hominem Republicans Attack Nancy Pelosi's Mind
Photobucket
From Fox News Via Real Clear Politics:
"You know my friend Allen West said the race card was the last card in the deck. I think former Speaker Pelosi has opened up a new deck and has found the 2 of clubs. I could not believe it when I heard her saying that. Is that all you have to come back with?" Rep. Gowdy said on FOX News tonight.
"Is that the best you can come up with, is that we got together in this grand scheme to suppress votes and I'm sure she didn't say southern states but that's what she meant," Gowdy said.
"It's really beneath the office of a member of Congress to say something that outrageous and the fact that she was once the Speaker is mind numbing. I honestly, and I have her a lot in my 16 years as a prosecutor, I couldn't believe the words coming out of her mouth. But keep in mind, Greta, this is the same woman who said she could have arrested Karl Rove any day she wanted. So I don't know what was wrong with her yesterday or today or whenever she said that, but I would schedule an appointment with my doctor if she thinks that we are doing this to suppress votes this fall. That is mind-numbingly stupid," he said.
