~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a bitterly cold day in New Jersey as Governor Chris Christie was sworn in for his second term, and his celebration on Ellis Island was canceled due to the Polar Vortex. Probably not the wonderful time he and his wife had been imagining with all the subpoenas and the controversy. But that's okay - they simply pretended nothing was wrong! Also sworn in was the Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno who allegedly threatened to withhold Hurricane Sandy funds from the Mayor of Hoboken, but she was all smiles too. Well, I guess they should enjoy life while they have the luxury and before more stuff hits the fan, and I don't mean snow. Also some of the other Republicans have begun to throw snowballs at Christie, and that's got to hurt. But not as much as possible jail time and losing your career and all chances of EVER being President of the U.S. - that's really being out in the cold.
His speech itself was a mix of bromides, clichés, political red meat and his characteristic self-absorption, with the use of the first-person pronoun nearly 20 times by my count. And this is a period of intended new humility for the White House wannabe.
“I believe in you, New Jersey, and I always will,” he declared Tuesday afternoon, as if there could be no greater affirmation than his own faith in the state. Lucky citizens!
Christie was greeted warmly when introduced. The standing ovation he received, presumably from the friends, family and political allies he invited to his inaugural, suggested a circling of the wagons by the committed.
He's a friend of mine. He's a good friend of mine. He's a good guy, but you know, he's one email away from a disaster.
~ Donald Trump on Chris Christie
He does not serve the goals of that organization by staying as chairman (of the Republican Governors Association).
From the perspective of setting aside this as an issue in other races, it makes sense for him to step aside. That doesn't mean any of the charges political or otherwise are substantive or not, it doesn't matter. Perception is reality.
#GOP Heads Explode On Election Night as Cuccinelli Loses, Christie Wins
 photo imagesqtbnANd9GcQ3XoyVq0Rri6YRQo9pi.jpg
Via Time Swampland
Democrat Terry McAuliffe edged out Virginia attorney general Ken Cuccinelli in the race to be the state’s next governor on Tuesday, riding a significant financial advantage and voter distaste over the Republican’s staunchly conservative stances on social issues to victory in the key swing state.
The contest was close late into Tuesday night after polls had indicated McAuliffe, a former Democratic National Committee chairman and close Clinton confidante, could win by high single digits. But with 96% of precincts reporting, McAuliffe led Cuccinelli 47.1% to 46.3%, and the Associated Press called the race for McAuliffe at about 10 p.m. E.T. A third candidate, libertarian Robert Sarvis, ended up winning a critical 6.7%.
It’s the first time the party occupying the White House has won the state’s off-year gubernatorial election since 1973.
From Politico
The Republican Governors Association took umbrage Wednesday at anonymous griping that it abandoned Ken Cuccinelli’s gubernatorial bid, highlighting the $8.5 million it spent to help the Republican state attorney general against Democrat Terry McAuliffe.
The tit-for-tat played out a day after Cuccinelli lost by less than three percentage points, a margin that was much narrower than expected and triggered second-guessing and finger-pointing about what might have been.
Blame Women, RINOs, Libertarians and Benghaziiiiii!!!
WE COULD HAVE WON THIS RACE. FOR THE REASONS I HAVE EXPLAINED HERE AND ON THE AIR, GOP ESTABLISHMENT AND DONORS LEFT THE FIELD. NOW, NOT ONLY THE LIBERALS BUT THE RINO MOUTHPIECES CONTINUE WITH THEIR MANTRA ABOUT THE DEAD TEA PARTY AND THE RINO FUTURE. ABSOLUTELY APPALLING! (And they did not spend even $3 million, that was a phony number.)
~ Conservative Radio Pundit Mark Levin on his website
2014 is vitally important and we all know why. Instead of 8 years of HELL for America it will be 16 FRIGGIN' YEARS OF HELL!!!
We've got to make SURE Hillary is held to account for Benghazi and MB support in Egypt!!
~ Obama is Sabotaging America on Free Republic
McCauliffe was probably put over the top by stupid white women who wanted someone else to pay for their abortions and birth control. Like their boyfriend Obama. And from everything I have hear, the GOP did as little as possible to help Cucinelli. I am more upset at the GOP than anyone else.
~ Hacksaw on Free Republic
Next Libertarian you see, give him a hearty middle finger “Thank You!” salute.
Seven percent to Sarvis is what sank Cuccinelli.
"Eclair" Christie and the Bubble Boys
(The Cuccinelli Campaign in Virginia) begged Christie, and you can make an argument that to bring a Chris Christie to Northern Virginia might have helped. But Chris Christie is worried about his own brand.
~ MSNBC's Chuck Todd on Morning Joe, quoted by Breitbart
Christie's current brand might endear him to the Morning Joe bubble-boys, but they will turn on him, just as they did Romney, the moment he is a threat to a Democrat's quest for the Oval Office. In a presidential campaign, in both the primary and general elections, Christie needs the base to stand in long lines for him.
That is the brand Christie needs to worry about.
Had Christie taken just a half-day to stump for Cuccinelli, not only would that have helped wash the Sandy stain away; it might have actually made him a hero to the base for both defying the Morning Joe crowd and helping to drag Cuccinelli over the finish line.
~ John Nolte on Breitbart
Screw Christie!!!! He won because the DEMS didn't lift a finger (or a dollar) to fight him. They wrote that whole race off...Don't think that will be the case in 2016. On the other hand, the cooch man had to fight the Dems AND the freaking GOP establishment AND the media!!! and he almost WON! He would be a much better candidate in 2016 than freaking Christie!!
~ colinthemurph on Red State
The Cuccinelli campaign asked Christie to help them out in VA, but Hindenburg Jr. was too busy cleaning out all the donut shops all over NJ. He only slobbers over and embraces his commie pal, didn't you know. He is a phony scumbag who can never be trusted. He says he's "gonna get things done". Mr. Reach Across The Isle. That's the LAST thing we need is more capitulation from New Jersey's most famous hot air balloon. How America ended up with so many losers is hard to figure out. No vote from me for Eclair Boy.
No more Money for RNC
Open letter to the RNC- Sirs, I am not and have never been a member of the Tea Party. That said, I respectfully inform you that you can no longer count on my financial support and no longer will I man the phone bank as I have in the past. For the RNC to abandon Cooch, even though he was the duly elected nominee, was low down. I see no difference between the Rep. "establishment" and the Dems. It was fun while it lasted. Good luck.
. . . This is absolutely disgusting!!!!! I am absolutely beyond mad. Furious doesn't begin to describe me. WE ARE BEING DEFEATED BY OUR ALLEGED ALLIES.
This is going to be used to put us down. They are going to say that real social conservative cannot win, but we can. It was close and if those #$%##$$## so called leaders of the Republican Party had stood with us, we would have made it. They are going to tell us that Christie's win indicates that we just need to be more LIBERAL and we can win. That's total b#$#%%#.
I am ready to go. Someone tell me what we should do. I cannot stand this anymore. We could have had a God-fearing man in the VA Governor's mansion (again).
I am officially no longer a Republican. I may indeed vote for Republicans but I will not let my name be included in their rolls. And then again, I may not vote for them. They need to EARN my vote. They can no longer take it for granted. They will no longer get any of my money. True Tea Party, conservative (socially conservative) candidates can count on my support. I will listen carefully to the Republican candidates and if they are true conservatives, I will vote for them. Otherwise, I will not.
What if?
If there had been late spending for Cuccinelli, or if there hadn't been a government shutdown, right, which is not Ken Cuccinelli's fault, if there hadn't been, you think of the Northern Virginia vote, where there are a huge number of huge number of government workers in Northern Virginia, where Terry McAuliffe found his margin of victory.
If there hadn't been for the shutdown, Ken Cuccinelli might have won this race also for all of his problems, a little bit more money, and a little bit less government shutdown, you might be looking at Ken Cuccinelli as bad as he was, and as out of step with so much of Virginia, he probably would be in the statehouse.
~ Conservative Pundit John Heilemann on MSNBC's Last Word, via Newsbusters
Virginia Squeaker Sends Shivers Through Dems
It looks like if Cuccinelli had another week to tag McAuliffe for his unflinching support of President Obama’s unpopular new entitlement, the race might have ended differently. What if he would have had another year? That’s the reality facing vulnerable Democrats on the 2014 election cycle.
Denial, Carpetbaggers, Scary Blacks and Voter Fraud
Virginia is not liberal; NORTHERN Virginia is. Arlington, Fairfax and Prince William Counties alone gave McAuliffe the nod by a margin of 107,000; STATEWIDE, it was only 55,000. Most of these hacks only reside there due to the fact that they are part of the "political-industrial complex." Bigger government, whether it be state or federal, gives these hacks (so they think) more job security. Apparently, it's a bunch of transplants, as opposed to native Virginians, who now decide the future of the Old Dominion. Thomas Jefferson would be rolling over (and vomiting) in his grave.
~ Bruce on Twitchy
The Virginia gubernatorial race should have been a landslide for democrats. They outspent by wide margins. They were so desperate that they had to cheat to win. They had to revert to sleazy tactics, unable to honorably win on the issues. Democrats recently had a gargantuan lead, and they lost it, largely because of Obamacare.
Who the hell votes for their state’s AG but not their governor? WHO?!?! Supposedly, 125,000 Virginians do according to the election results. Something’s fishy in VA.
~ Don D. on National Report
The Tea Party, despite almost no help from the GOP, while having a so-called "Libertarian" splitting the ticket, in the state most affected by the evil "shutdown" got so freakin close and that is a gigantic win for them and loss for RINOs, no matter what they want to say.
As far as Obamacare... well, I guarantee Dem Senators up for reelection are panicking a bit after this showing by the "dead" Tea Party flying nearly completely solo
Rand Paul's Gattaca Moment
 photo gattacasedvd.jpg
Rachel Maddow, host of an MSNBC talk show and bane of Rand Paul’s existence, accused the Kentucky Senator of stealing lines from his speech at Liberty University on Monday from a Wikipedia entry about the 1997 movie Gattaca.
. . . In all, Maddow accused Paul of quoting almost word-for-word four passages in the Wikipedia entry explaining the science fiction movie.
~ Kentucky Courier Journal
Gattaca Wikipedia Page Here
. . . it’s ridiculous enough that the Kentucky Senator used a 16-year-old science fiction film’s plot as some lame attempt to stir up fear while giving a speech. Then he just compounds his absurdity by plagiarizing the movie’s Wikipedia page.
~ Forward Progressives
Paul: “In the movie Gattaca, in the ‘not to distant future,’ eugenics is common and DNA plays a primary role in determining your social class.”
Wikipedia: “In ‘the not-too-distant future’, liberal eugenics is common and DNA plays the primary role in determining social class.
Paul: “Due to frequent screenings, Vincent faces genetic discrimination and prejudice. The only way to achieve his dream of being an astronaut, is he has to become what’s called a ‘borrowed ladder.’”
Wikipedia: "Due to frequent screening, Vincent faces genetic discrimination and prejudice. The only way he can achieve his dream of becoming an astronaut is to become a ‘borrowed ladder.’”
Wikipedia: “He assumes the identity of Jerome Eugene Morrow, a former swimming star with a genetic profile “second to none”, who had been injured in a car accident, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.”
Republicans Still Harping on Obamacare, Attack Secretary Sebelius
 photo BW_SsJvCcAAhblb.jpg
President Obama’s ideas are deeply flawed and the implementation of this law has been a national embarrassment. Let me be plain, the law that carries the president’s name is the hallmark of a reckless federal bureaucracy that has lost its way.
~ Viginia Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli
From the Washington Post
Ted Cruz, remarks to reporters, Oct. 16, 2013
“The deal that has been cut provides no relief to the millions of Americans who are hurting because of Obamacare…. People all over this country are losing their health insurance. Fifteen thousand UPS employees got a notification in the mail that they were losing spousal coverage, that their husbands and wives were all losing the health insurance that they wanted and they liked. That is happening all over the country.”
. . . In the specific example cited by Cruz of UPS — “15,000 UPS employees got a notification in the mail that they were losing spousal coverage” — he left out a crucial detail: The company’s policy change affects spouses who would qualify for health coverage at their own company — affecting approximately one in five workers, according to a company memo. Spouses who don’t have coverage or are not employed would still continue on the company plan.
What you will see is that a lot of the insurance companies will begin to fold. People will have fewer and fewer options. Ultimately we will have a single-payer system if we don’t stop this from happening, and that will give the government the kind of control that it needs.
~ Fox News Pundit Ben Carson
Men like Mitch McConnell, John Cornyn, Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy, and others have preached a great sermon against Obamacare, but now conservatives who supported them see that these men have refused to actually practice what they’ve been preaching. They’ve refused to stand and fight with the rest of us.
The fight was always about Obamacare. Today we know we must keep fighting and fight harder against even our own supposed side. But we always knew the fight would force the charlatans of the GOP out of the shadows into disinfecting sunlight. It has happened as I wrote it would almost a month ago.
Now conservatives can keep advancing. They should not be disheartened.
~ GOP Pundit Erick Erickson on Red State
Salon Fact-Checks Sean Hannity on Fox
I happened to turn on the Hannity show on Fox News last Friday evening. “Average Americans are feeling the pain of Obamacare and the healthcare overhaul train wreck,” Hannity announced, “and six of them are here tonight to tell us their stories.” Three married couples were neatly arranged in his studio, the wives seated and the men standing behind them, like game show contestants.
As Hannity called on each of them, the guests recounted their “Obamacare” horror stories: canceled policies, premium hikes, restrictions on the freedom to see a doctor of their choice, financial burdens upon their small businesses and so on.
. . . I don’t doubt that these six individuals believe that Obamacare is a disaster; but none of them had even visited the insurance exchange. And some of them appear to have taken actions ... based on a general pessimistic belief about Obamacare. He’s certainly entitled to do so, but Hannity is not entitled to point to (this) behavior as an “Obamacare train wreck story” and maintain any credibility that he might have as a journalist.
From Politico
Republicans now have to get it through their heads that the law isn’t going away. As one Senate Republican aide put it Thursday, “We’re past that existential question.”
Democrats say they’ll always be able to remind Americans of the massively unpopular shutdown whenever Republicans try too hard to fight the law.
“Republicans thought that this was a winning issue for them and would trump public outcry over the budget and the debt ceiling … Republicans were dead wrong,” said Matt Canter of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. “The shutdown showed that voters don’t want to continue refighting the partisan battles around the health care law.”
And top GOP strategists say the party has to try harder to rally around an alternative, which they haven’t been able to do so far.
Oh, and maybe don’t shut the government down again.
McDonnell and Cuccinelli Fight War on Women in Virginia
From Ms. Magazine:
Today the Virginia Board of Health met and voted 13-2 to reverse their June decision to grandfather in existing clinics, exempting them from new, hospital-like restrictions for the state's abortion clinics, commonly called TRAP laws or Targeted Regulations of Abortion Providers. Instead, the board has allowed existing clinics to come into compliance with regulations within two years or face closure.
Virginia Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli refused to accept the grandfather provision asserting the board did not have the authority to amend the regulations. Cuccinelli also released a memo on Wednesday, threatening Board of Health members by telling them, according to the Virginia Pilot, that "they could be denied state legal counsel and [would] have to pay for their own defense if they again disregard his advice about relaxing controversial abortion clinic rules and litigation ensues."
. . . The Board of Health meeting was packed today, with people filling both the board room and an overflow room and some 200 people standing outside who couldn't gain admission. During the time set aside by the Board for public comment 14 pro-choice, abortion access supporters spoke, including representatives from Planned Parenthood, ACLU and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Eleven anti-abortion opponents, including National Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Virginia Family Foundation, also spoke. After the Board reversed its decision, some pro-choice advocates walked out of the room, chanting "shame shame, you don't care if women die."
Shame! Shame! You don't give a sh** about women living in Virginia.
~ Anonymous woman shouting after the Virginia Board of Health caved in to pressure from Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and made a resolution that might close down 15-20 abortion clinics across the state.
"We're not lawyers. We're not politicians. We're a completely apolitical body, and suddenly we're thrown in a completely political situation. And I don't think we coped very well.
~ James Edmondson, Jr., member of the Virginia Board of Health
This board decision is an underhanded method to make abortion inaccessible and outrageously expensive. Without clinics there is no choice for women. It threatens women's health and lives because many women's health clinics in Virginia may be forced out of business. These unnecessary and arbitrary rules will result in Virginia women having restricted access to not only abortion services but also to low-cost birth control services, cancer screenings, and sexually transmitted disease testing, as well as other women's health services.
~ Eleanor Smeal, president of the Feminist Majority Foundation
