"You know, they’re at home, doing the laundry and doing so many things while we’re up here on the stage getting a little bit of applause, right? They don’t often share in it. And it is hard for the spouse to hear the criticism and to put up with the travel schedule and to have to be at home taking care of the kids. And where is the politician? Out on the road!"

Oh, the difficult life of the elected public official and his wife...
A nice salary, top notch healthcare, a generous pension, and perquisites that would make the average person's head spin.
Tell it to the enlisted troops sitting in the scorchingly hot desert of Iraq or the nightmare of Afghanistan (a place you more than likely voted to send them) and the wife at home juggling a job, shuttling the kids around, and doing the work of two parents including the laundry.
