Hillary Clinton Wins New York Landslide

 photo Hillary-HappyGif.gif

For weeks the Bernie Sanders crowd insisted that he was going to "win big" in New York City. After all, he was a hometown boy from Brooklyn, and a few years, or even 40 years, living in Vermont means nothing when you have the Big Apple in your heart.

And indeed, Sanders seemed to have "intensity" and "momentum" right up until the polls closed on Primary Election Day and it all fell apart. Because Hillary not only won the hearts and minds of Democrats in the Big Apple - she got a landslide of support, higher than projected, both in turnout and delegates won.

Bernie didn't even win the precinct where he grew up. He didn't win any ethnic groups, not even the Jewish voters. Yes, he won in white rural counties with few voters and few delegates outside the cities. It just wasn't enough.

Hillary was on fire in the South Carolina Primary, getting the majority of Democratic votes in every single county, much to the chagrin of Bernie Sanders and his followers. Originally it was thought that Bernie at least did better with Caucasion folks, but Hillary took away that demographic, too.

And she gave one of the most inspirational speeches of her entire career - must watch! She vowed that "Tomorrow this campaign goes national" as she sails into Super Tuesday in a good place to win big in many states.

#LoveWins ~ Gay Marriage Upheld by Supreme Court

 photo 78b7e355-9f9b-44b9-8a95-99b6011c94d4.png

In another major victory for the Obama Administration, the Supreme Court struck down all the gay marriage bans in various states, making marriage equality the law of the land.

From CNN
In the 5-4 ruling, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote for the majority with the four liberal justices. Each of the four conservative justices wrote their own dissent.
Nearly 46 years to the day after a riot at New York's Stonewall Inn ushered in the modern gay rights movement, the decision could settle one of the major civil rights fights of this era. The language of Kennedy's opinion spoke eloquently of the most fundamental values of family, love and liberty.

Supreme Court Upholds Obamacare in King vs. Burwell 6-3 Decision

 photo 7d6eb770-654d-4025-9b58-e4d85e63612f.jpg

The Supreme Court upheld the law about Obamacare subsidies in the states!!! This is a huge victory for the Obama Administration and for the country as a whole.

In a strong 6-3 decision, Chief Justice Roberts (surprisingly) wrote the the majority opinion in favor of Obamacare, and was joined by Justices Kennedy, Breyer, Sotomayor, Ginsberg, and Kagan. Justice Scalia wrote the conservative dissent, joined (not surprisingly) by Alito and Thomas.

From Huffington Post
The stakes of the case, King v. Burwell, were enormous. Had the plaintiffs prevailed, millions of people who depend upon the Affordable Care Act for insurance would have lost financial assistance from the federal government. Without that money, most of them would have had to give up coverage altogether. And the loss of so many customers would have forced insurers to raise premiums, seriously disrupting state insurance markets.
But two of the court’s conservatives, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Anthony Kennedy, joined the court’s four liberals in rejecting the lawsuit in a 6-3 decision. Roberts delivered the opinion for the majority. And the decision was a concise, stinging rebuke of the plaintiffs, who contended that Congress intended to write a law that would leave so many people without coverage, and cause such disarray.
"Congress passed the Affordable Care Act to improve health insurance markets, not destroy them," Roberts wrote.

Scalia was scathing in his dissent. He clearly wanted to give the GOP a victory, so slammed his colleagues for giving the President a huge victory instead.

From Huffington Post
"Words no longer have meaning," Scalia wrote in the dissent he read from the bench.
. . . "Today's interpretation is not merely unnatural; it is unheard of," he wrote. That is, strictly speaking, true, since this was a new case.
"We should start calling this law SCOTUScare."
"This case requires us to decide whether someone who buys insurance on an Exchange established by the Secretary gets tax credits. You would think the answer would be obvious -- so obvious there would hardly be a need for the Supreme Court to hear a case about it," Scalia wrote, again accurately, though not in the way he meant.
"The Court's next bit of interpretive jiggery-pokery..."
"Pure applesauce," he insisted.

Call a Waaahmbulance for Scalia!

Meanwhile, President Obama called for the GOP to move forward and stop trying to repeal Obamacare for the 60th time.

Wingnuts Declare Victory as Feds Leave #BundyRanch

#BundyRanch Stand-Off in Nevada Attracts Militias and Wingnuts

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In an effort to avoid another Waco or Ruby Ridge shoot-out situation, the Bureau of Land Management chose on Saturday to pull back from the kerfuffle at the ranch of Cliven Bundy in Nevada. They even let some of his cattle run free again, which was met with cheers from Tea Party and Militia members lining the highway near the ranch.
The far-right was quick to take credit for a "victory" over the evil Government oppressing Bundy, who has been letting his cattle graze on public land for 20 years without paying a dime for the privilege. That point seems to be lost on the Libertarian crowd, who seem to think "public" land means that anyone can just set up farmin' and moochin' just anywhere as long as they have a gun to wave in the air.
Wrong. The Feds will be back. Next time we see Cliven Bundy will probably be in court, possibly in hand-cuffs if he keeps stirring insurrection. But unfortunately wingnuts like Alex Jones will continue to use #BundyRanch as a reason to spin delusional conspiracy theories blaming Obama, Harry Reid, the United Nations, and even the Chinese.
The Las Vegas Sun
Militiamen came armed and upset from across the U.S. after hearing about the Bureau of Land Management’s efforts to seize Bundy’s cattle, which the BLM said have been trespassing on federal land without proper grazing permits for more than 20 years.
Bundy stopped paying grazing fees because he believes the land is owned by the state and that he has a right to use it for his cattle.
On Saturday, the BLM released all 400 head of Bundy’s cattle that had been rounded up after facing hundreds of states’ rights protestors and armed militia members.
The agency cited “escalating tensions” in calling off the roundup.
BLM Statement via KOLO TV
"Today we announced the decision to conclude the cattle gather because of our grave concern about the safety of employees and members of the public.
This afternoon, demonstrators gathered at the area where personnel and cattle were located. Due to escalating tensions, the cattle have been released from the enclosures in order to avoid violence and help restore order.
Safety has always been our number one priority, and the Bureau of Land Management and the National Park Service appreciate the support of those who called for a peaceful conclusion to the operation."
