England's Historic #Brexit Shakes Up the World

Britain voted on a referendum to either leave the European Union of nations or remain part of the network. The conventional wisdom was that England would never vote to leave, yet that's exactly what happened yesterday, sending shockwaves around the world as the pound sterling decreased in value overnight, and markets responded to the new uncertainty by falling around the globe.

Perhaps the most disturbing part of the Brexit were those who admitted on the news that they though their "protest votes" to leave wouldn't matter, that London would vote to remain and that would save the empire - or something like that. In effect, the voters sounded ignorant and regretful that their votes mattered.

Brexit is a cautionary tale for the world - elections have consequences.

#BlackMonday ~ DOW plunges over 1000 points

A crash in China markets is causing a domino effect around the world today.

From the New York Times
Stocks in the United States tumbled on Monday morning as another sell-off that started in China roiled markets around the world.
Immediately after the opening bell in New York, the Dow Jones industrial average dropped more than 1,000 points — one of the most precipitous such plunges in recent years.

CNBC's Maria Bartiromo Shrieks at a Democrat and Traders Cheer

Bartiromo: Are you guys just incompetent or what? I mean, if you can't do this, if you can't do what the American people pay you to do, why don't you just step aside and put somebody in there who can actually get a deal done?
. . . You're talking about $1.2 trillion in revenue, but you're not prepared to put anything on the table. People are not stupid.

. . . Cardin: The easiest way to get the revenues is to get the rates on the higher-income taxpayers.

 Bartiromo: That's all you want to do. That's it. It's your way or the highway. Raise the rates on the rich. No other way. Your way or the highway. That's it.. That's where we are. Thank you, Senator.

I'll give her one cheer for clearly exposing Democrats' "my way of the highway" approach. She missed the opportunity to get to three cheers because it seems that she's just now recognizing after all these months that Democrats, including President Obama, won't accept any kind of a solution that doesn't involve raising the top rates -- even though they've been saying that very thing all along. ~ Tom Blumer on Newsbusters  . . . from time to time, you just have to give credit where credit's absolutely, positively due. Because if this thing hasn't gone viral yet, it damn well should. Yesterday on CNBC, host Maria Bartiromo schooled a United States senator. I won't even mention his name. After what happened to him, he's not worthy, and he probably would prefer I just leave him out of this whole thing. I Love her but I really thought she was just a Bully and did nothing but trivialize what is going on. Boehner is jerking us all around. He doesn't have the votes nor the Intestinal Fortitude to go against those who have bought Congress. He can't control his caucus. We had an election we voted for taxes being raised on those over 250K and Obama has given even more. We knew what we were voting for. The Republicans have to face reality They LOST. The Senator could not get a word in edge wise. It reminded me of Hard Ball with Chris Matthews.

CNBC might consider that Democrats are their viewers too. We do not need CNBC commentators to spread Republican lies and deceit; they already have Fox News for that. Why does Maria not ask Boehner or Republican guests what spending cuts they would support that does not entail throwing Grandma from the train. Maria needs to take some time off, a lot of time off. Perhaps, she would be happier over at Fox News.

The House did not take up the tax measure today because it did not have sufficient support from our members to pass. Now it is up to the president to work with Senator Reid on legislation to avert the fiscal cliff. The House has already passed legislation to stop all of the January 1 tax rate increases and replace the sequester with responsible spending cuts that will begin to address our nation's crippling debt. The Senate must now act.

Boehner was trying to play chess and the caucus was playing checkers. Boehner is willing to lose a pawn for a queen. I’m not sure about the rest.

Once again Obama's superior negotiating skills, which baffle those who mistake chess for checkers, has revealed to the world the true nature of the GOP: short-sighted, evil, predatory, beholden to the 0.01%.
In the end this was a battle b/t Obama and Boehner, and Boehner lost. Lost BIG! Lost because his own team stabbed him in the back. And all Obama had to do was consider Boehner's proposal for the GOP to reject it. Because the GOP will commit suicide rather than deal honestly with that Black guy in their White House.

I have to say that I didn't think the GOP would screw Boehner like this. That they would be so extreme. I thought they'd opt to preserve the Kabuki drama in which they play the part of an organized, determined, powerful force.
And I'm so relieved that they opened the door for President Obama to walk through, turn around, and say "thank you. Now chained CPI and SS cuts are off the table. Don't mind if I do."

The cliff is upon us. The end of fiscal days, or so House Republicans tell us. The House Republicans want you, the American people to know that they are serious about the fiscal cliff. They are so serious that they have decided to go home for Christmas.

Boehner Shambles: Plan B Fails in House - Tea Party Gloats - Stock Market Falls

House Republicans revolted this evening and rejected Speaker John Boehner’s “Plan B” which would have extended the Bush tax cuts for everyone making $1 million or less, among other provisions. According to Boehner, he canceled a scheduled vote on his plan after it became clear he could not get enough support from Republicans for it to pass. The House is now in recess until after Christmas.

Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS), one of the conservative lawmakers "purged" from a committee seat by House leadership earlier this month, issued a release gloating over the fact that Speaker John Boehner's "Plan B" to avert the so-called fiscal cliff failed on Thursday night due to lack of support.

"On a separate note, Republican leadership thought they could silence conservatives when they kicked us off our Committees," Huelskamp said. "I’m glad that enough of my colleagues refused to back down from the threats and intimidation, thus preventing the Conference from abandoning our principles."
