The #TrumpTacoBowl for Cinco De Mayo

Trump tweeted a picture of himself eating a "taco bowl" on the fifth of May, otherwise known as the Mexican (and American) holiday Cinco de Mayo. Yes, the King of All Hypocrites thought it would be appropriate to revel in Hispanic culture even though he has accused all Mexican immigrants of being killers and rapists, and he wants to build his giant wall on the border.

Hypocrisy never bothers a man like Donald Trump. But this time the internet had a good time calling him out on it.

Paul Ryan resurfaced at CPAC last weekend giving a speech about how he knew of a poor child who refused a charity lunch at school because he would rather have a paper bag packed by a loving parent.

The left is making a big mistake here. What they’re offering people is a full stomach and an empty soul. The American people want more than that. This reminds me of a story I heard from Eloise Anderson. She serves in the cabinet of my buddy, Governor Scott Walker. She once met a young boy from a very poor family, and every day at school, he would get a free lunch from a government program. He told Eloise he didn’t want a free lunch. He wanted his own lunch, one in a brown-paper bag just like the other kids. He wanted one, he said, because he knew a kid with a brown-paper bag had someone who cared for him. This is what the left does not understand.”

Aw, nice story, even though it made me go "Huh?" First of all, even if Mom, Dad, Grandma, or Aunt Lulu pack an occasional lunch, that still doesn't mean that all children have that option. Maybe there is no food at home to pack? During the recent Snowmageddon inNew York City the Mayor refused to cancel school because kids needed to go there and get that one hot meal a day. Starving children? Charles Dickens is rolling in his grave every time Paul Ryan speaks.

But anyway, Ryan seems to believe that hungry children would rather have an empty paper sack from home, than actual food for lunch. To him, a sack lunch has dignity, even if it has zero nutrition and humiliates a child in a world of well-stocked lunch boxes and kids who take food for granted. To Ryan, government assistance gives a child "an empty soul." Empty soul - oh, please! I suppose his own kids have "full" souls from eating when they are hungry. Ugh.

Well, in spite of his best efforts to once again sell himself (and his own soul) at CPAC, old Paul Ryan blew up the bullsh*t meter again. He wasn't called "Lyin' Ryan" during the 2012 Election for nothing! 

This story has been twice plagiarized now: Lyin' Ryan stole it from Lyin' Eloise Anderson, a colleague from Wisconsin in charge of Children's Services (shudder), who was under oath at the time during a Congressional Hearing on Food Stamps chaired by Ryan himself.

My thought has always been around the SNAP program even when it was called "food stamps" is, why do you have this program, school program, school breakfast, school lunch, school dinner, when do we start asking parents to be responsible for their children?
You know, a little boy told me once that what was important to him is that he didn't want school lunch, he wanted a brown bag because the brown bag that he brought with his lunch in it meant that his mom cared about him. Just think what we have done. If this kid tells me a brown bag was more important than a free lunch, we've missed the whole notion of parents being there for their children because we've taken over that responsibility, and I think we need to be very careful about how we provide programs to families that don't undermine families' responsibilities.
Anderson made it sound as if she knew the child in the story, when in reality she merely overheard the quote on TV during an interview about the book. Okay - what did the author give the indigent boy? Oh yeah - food and hope, both of which have become bad words to the GOP and especially these Libertarian Ayn Rand types who don't give a damn. And the real kicker is that the child mentioned in Ryan's story has grown up now and is an advocate for hunger programs!

But Maurice describes being hungry as being punched in the stomach. And given the choice between a free lunch and not eating at all, he would choose the free lunch.

Ryan didn’t understand that this was a made-up story. After reporting by the Wonkette blog and The Post’s Glenn Kessler, Anderson admitted that she had never spoken to the boy. She picked up the story from a TV interview. Worse, she then twisted a tale first told by supporters of government nutrition assistance that had absolutely nothing to do with school lunch programs.
But what’s most troubling here is that it did not occur to Ryan to check the story because it apparently didn’t occur to him that most kids on free lunch programs have parents who do care about them. They just can’t afford to put a nutritious lunch in a brown paper bag every day.
Ryan was so eager to make an ideological statement about family structure that he was not bothered by the implicit insult he was issuing to actual families of children on the lunch program. A little more empathy could have saved Ryan a lot of trouble. He apologized for the factual error but not for the insult.

Rep Jack Kingston: . . . one of the things I’m talking to the Secretary of Agriculture about: why don’t you have the kids pay a dime, pay a nickle, to instill in them that there is, in fact, no such thing as a free lunch. Or maybe sweep the floor in the cafeteria. And yes, I understand that that would be an administrative problem and I understand that it would probably lose you money — but think what we’d gain as a society in getting the myth out of their head that there is such thing as a free lunch.

. . .Since paperwork is often an obstacle to access, communities like Boston and Dallas have opted to simply provide free meals to all students, regardless of economic need. But other schools have gone in the opposite direction, including a Dickerson, Texas, middle school that threw away the lunch of a student whose account was 30 cents short.
Kingston’s plan would potentially discourage participation in the program — some kids do not have the five to ten cents for their meals and singling them out as janitors would broadcast to other students which families are the poorest. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 18.9 million students receive free lunches and another 2.6 million receive reduced fee lunches. Last year, Kingston voted for a bill that would have kicked 280,000 low-income out of the program.

This idea has come up before - here's then-GOP Candidate Newt Gingrich, running in the Presidential Primary for Election 2012:
"You say to somebody, you shouldn't go to work before you're what, 14, 16 years of age, fine. You're totally poor. You're in a school that is failing with a teacher that is failing. I've tried for years to have a very simple model," he said. "Most of these schools ought to get rid of the unionized janitors, have one master janitor and pay local students to take care of the school. The kids would actually do work, they would have cash, they would have pride in the schools, they'd begin the process of rising."

Yeah, that went over like a lead balloon, and so did Kingston's cruel remark, so he backpeddled on CNN:
“This was a discussion about the work ethic in America and I think all kids of all socioeconomic brackets could prosper and learn a lot by having some sort of chores,” Kingston said Friday on CNN’s “New Day.”
The Republican lawmaker added that he never said “poor kids” ...
. . . “This wasn’t anything in a back room. This wasn’t a policy statement. This was a discussion,” Kingston said, slamming Democrats who he said planted a tracker to film his comments and then fundraise off of them.
“How are we going to change the status quo if we can’t have discussions about sensitive issues, or quasi-sensitive issues, without all the hyperbole that we always get trapped into in modern America,” the congressman said.

And he was still backpeddling (but strangely also doubling down)in this interview, which the caller, Roman Coley Davis,posted on Facebook.
Excerpt:
RD: . . . I understand that words are often twisted in political races. However, you explicitly and plainly stated that poor kids should have to pick up a broom (and thereby, be ridiculed, and face even more stigma), simply because they’re not from a wealthy family…in order to eat!”

REP. JK: “ALL kids should be made to learn hard work.”

RD: “That’s not what you said, Sir.”

REP. JK: “Yes, it is.”

RD: “No, Sir. With all due respect, I can provide you with the public transcript of your statement, which plainly illustrates that you did NOT, in fact, say ‘all kids should learn hard work’.”

REP. JK: “I passed by a ball field after a little league game and saw trash everywhere. I thought to myself ‘How great would it be if after just a simple ball game, these kids were made to pick up after everyone…to show them that working is important’. If we continue to give these poor kids charity, then we are robbing them of their work ethic.”

Here’s the truth: What’s shocking about Jack Kingston’s statement isn’t that he said it, but that it’s not out of place with the GOP of 2013. Yes, individual Republicans may have an anti-poverty agenda, and there are conservative thinkers who want the party to do more for low-income people. But for too many Republicans, behind closed-doors and otherwise, the poor aren’t people with interests worth respecting—they’re targets for moralizing and disdain.

GOP Food Stamp Cuts Affect Millions

Under the program, known formally as the Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program, or SNAP, a family of four that gets $668 per month in benefits will find that amount cut by $36.
SNAP, which benefits one in seven Americans, is administered by the Department of Agriculture and is authorized in a five-year omnibus farm bill covering all agricultural programs.

Paula Deen Fired from Food Network Over Racist Remarks

On Friday June 21, 2013 Paula Deen was supposed to appear on the NBC's Today Show with Matt Lauer but she bugged out:



Later that day she released two separate apology videos. The first was made private after a few minutes probably because people on Twitter mocked the sharp edits and Paula's crazy look - too much make-up and frowsy hair. The second with a more composed Paula Deen was released a few hours later.

Not long after that, the Food Network announced they were firing the Chef:

The Food Network has stuck a fork in Paula Deen.

The cable channel dropped the controversial celebrity chef from its programming lineup Friday in the wake of a deposition that recently surfaced in which she is quoted expressing racist sentiments and using the “N” word.
Food Network issued a statement this afternoon: “Food Network will not renew Paula Deen’s contract when it expires at the end of this month.”

Deen has been a star attraction on the cable channel, which is owned by Scripps Networks Interactive, since 1999. She has starred in multiple cooking shows for the network, most recently “Paula’s Best Dishes,” since 2008.
Her primetime perch at Food Network enabled Deen to build a multimedia empire around herself that extended to restaurants, cookbooks and other merchandise.

From US Magazine:
In a statement to CNN released on Friday night, the chef thanked the network for 11 "great years."
"I have had the pleasure of being allowed into so many homes across the country and meeting people who have shared with me the most touching and personal stories," she said. "This would not have been possible without the Food Network. Thank you again. Love and best dishes to all of ya'll."
The apology may be a little too late for the network, which announced Deen's firing early Friday afternoon. On the morning of Saturday, June 22, Deen's scheduled one-hour block of programming was yanked from the channel, with Giada Laurentiis' Giada at Home and Ree Drummond's Pioneer Woman being shown instead.

I admire Paula for offering her apology, and feel that she was very sincere. As a Christian, (not a racist), I have been taught to forgive, and it is for that reason alone, that I have done so with regards to Paula. So stop with the racist bullshit, which, incidently, has been so ratcheted out of control since obama took office, like everything and anything mentioned, even BBQ has been considered racist. I am shocked at your decision to let Paula go. Where are her first amendment rights, or are you an Obama follower that believes the Constitution no longer applies to the US. I do not know of one person , black, white, red, etc. that has not used a racial slur at some point in their life. The times may have changed and everyone feels they have to tiptoe around, and heaven forbid not offend anyone but Christian's, but you have gone too far. If I were Ms. Paula Deen, I'd have my attorneys file a wrongful termination lawsuit. Until the holier-than-thou Food Network investigates every one of their employees all the way back to the womb and checks to see if Anyone said Anything at Any time about Anyone, Anyplace in their lives and uncovers evidence of such, then Paula Deen was discriminated against. And just a thought for Guy, Giada, Alton and all the rest . . . you'd better be on your toes and have confidentiality agreements with everyone you know or who knows when something unfortunate will be revealed about any of you. Food Network should be mortified at themselves for reacting too quickly in order to be politically correct, and these days it seems as though that's what's at the root of so many of this country's issues.

I think Paula has a good heart and never intended any harm to any of her racial slurs...by golly there's more then her that has used slurs in times past and she never did it on tv!! Being from the south I do understand the idea behind the Plantation wedding idea, if anything I thought it would bring honor to those that worked as slaves back then because of their positive roles in our history of America, and they chose to look at the negative aspect of what she was trying to create in the idea..what a pity that people can be so cruel to a great cook that worked for them and did nothing but good on that show..she just taught what home cooking was about and if you didn't like it then change the channel and don't criticize her for it...that was her specialty and they knew it when they hired her in the first place!! Food Network is proving that: "no matter what you have said in the past, freedom of speech is 1. not tolerated with our network and 2. you have no right to be forgiven.. If we as American citizen, banned and punished every single human being for something they may have said "tongue and cheek" in the past, we would be a lonely country...I FULLY BELIEVE what Mrs. Paula said in years past was wrong, however, I also know when someone in our current times is bold enough to say, "yes, I have said things in the past in regret" and ask's for forgiveness, it should be forgiven as long as they are sincere which I believe she is. If Paula was a racist, I doubt she would say little cute remarks about a hot black male in the audience or a guest as well, kiss an African / American on the cheeck during shows.. Comics use racist jokes everyday in their standup performances, what do we do? WE FREAKING LAUGH at the jokes . GET REAL Food Network, honestly, I do believe you have truly cast a shadow on yourselves with regards of your position in the belief, "people do not deserve or, are not worthy of forgiveness".

Chef Paula Deen's Racism Leads to #PaulasBestDishes Meme ~ Updated 2

Celebrity chef Paula Deen has admitted to using the N-word and telling insensitive racial jokes during a May 17 deposition that was videotaped — and also confessed to her brother’s cocaine, pornography and alcohol addictions!

Paula, 66, admitted to using the N-word and wanting black waiters to play the role of slaves at a wedding party she was putting together, a new bombshell report from the National Enquirer claims.

. . . When asked by Lisa’s Atlanta-based attorney if she’d ever used the N-word, Paula responded, “Yes, of course,” and gave examples of times she used the offensive term.

In terms of telling racist jokes, Paula said, “It’s just what they are — they’re jokes…most jokes are about Jewish people, rednecks, black folks…I can’t determine what offends another person.”

And when asked if she wanted black men to play the role of slaves at a wedding she explained she got the idea from a restaurant her husband and her had dined at saying, “The whole entire waiter staff was middle-aged black men, and they had on beautiful white jackets with a black bow tie.

“I mean, it was really impressive. That restaurant represented a certain era in America…after the Civil War, during the Civil War, before the Civil War…It was not only black men, it was black women…I would say they were slaves.”

“Well what I would really like is a bunch of little niggers to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties, you know in the Shirley Temple days, they used to tap dance around,” the lawsuit claims Deen asaid. “Now that would be a true southern wedding, wouldn’t it? But we can’t do that because the media would be on me about that.”

. . . Though she denied having used the N word when discussing the wedding waitstaff, Deen admitted to Billips that she used the term in the past.

“Yes, of course,” Deen replied when asked if she ever said the word.

Deen said she employed the term when telling her husband about an incident “when a black man burst into the bank that I was working at and put a gun to my head.”

“I didn’t feel real favorable towards him,” Deen said of the alleged bank robber.

Stop Hispanic Immigration ~ We Need More White Australians

For decades, Mexicans have been about 30 percent of all legal immigrants to the United States, while only a smidgen more than 1 percent come from Great Britain. Is that fair? Granted, their food is better, but why is it the norm is to have nearly 30 times as many Mexican as British immigrants?
We have been taking in more immigrants from Guatemala, the Dominican Republic and Colombia, individually, than from England, our mother country. There are nearly twice as many immigrants from El Salvador as from Canada, and 10 times as many as from Australia.
. . . Mexicans are the largest immigrant group in America, with about 50 million Hispanics living here legally.
Marco Rubio's amnesty bill will soon make it 80 million. First, there are at least 11 million illegal immigrants, a majority from Mexico, who will be instantly legalized. Then we'll get their entire extended families under our chain migration system.
I wouldn't want that many Japanese! I wouldn't want that many Dutch (not that there are that many Dutch)! Why do we have to become a different country? Was there a vote when the country decided to turn itself into Mexico? No other country has ever just decided to turn itself into another country like this.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) this week said that prayers to God will ensure Obamacare’s repeal, after 37 House of Representatives attempts to do so.

I think the President will ultimately be forced to repudiate his own signature piece of legislation because the American people will demand it,” she told an evangelical radio host Tuesday. “And I think before his second term is over, we’re going to see a miracle before our eyes, I believe God is going to answer our prayers and we’ll be freed from the yoke of Obamacare.”

At least 24 abortion-related bills were filed this session (in the Texas Legislature), some of which garnered the support of Gov. Rick Perry and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst. Three marquee proposals for anti-abortion lawmakers failed to gain traction: a bill that would have banned abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy, a bill that would increase regulations for abortion facilities and a bill that would require doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges to a hospital within 50 miles.
. . . Last session — with an early boost from Perry — Republicans pushed proposals that forced women to undergo sonograms 24 hours prior to having an abortion and that slashed millions of dollars to family planning services.

At a Thursday congressional committee hearing on a proposed ban on abortion at 20 weeks in Washington, D.C., Christy Zink, a mother of two, testified how the measure would harm women who require late-term abortion care due to fetal abnormalities and other potentially fatal complications.
. . . In response to Zink’s testimony, Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, expressed “sympathy” for Zink, then accused her of “ripping apart” her fetus:
Ms. Zink, having my great sympathy and empathy both. I still come back wondering, shouldn’t we wait … and see if the child can survive before we decide to rip him apart? So, these are ethical issues, they’re moral issues, they’re difficult issues, and the parents should certainly be consulted. But it just seems like, it’s a more educated decision if the child is in front of you to make those decisions.

. . . “I believe that we don’t recognize the causal effect between the type of sex education that we’ve been giving and the spread of STDs. We focus on things like abortion, cause it’s a big pressure thing. I go into schools 15-20 times a year, I run a non-profit that goes into schools and talks to kids about sex. They’re all abortion and HIV. HIV’s kind of hard to catch. Abortion happens if you get pregnant. But we’re on the track for 50 percent of the American people to have Herpes by the time these kids are my age. And that is a profound — not only health but sociological crisis facing this country.”

During contentious debate over the Farm Bill, which funds food stamps, in the House Agriculture Committee, Rep. Juan Vargas, D-Calif., invoked the Book of Matthew as he noted his opposition to the cuts.
“[Jesus] says how you treat the least among us, the least of our brothers, that’s how you treat him,” Vargas, adding that Jesus specifically mentions the importance of feeding the hungry.
Republican Congressman Stephen Fincher of Tennessee, who supports cuts to the program, had his own Bible verse from the Book of Thessalonians to quote back to Vargas: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat,” he said.

Now, this would not normally be worthy of mention. Hardly a day goes by without some Republican sadist expressing fury that poor people have it so good. Devising new ways to make the peasants suffer is what makes Republicans wake up in the morning. What's fascinating about this particular case, though, is Fincher's background.
The reason this is even more egregious than the usual Republican class warfare is that Fincher himself is a poster boy for government dependency. It's not just that he's benefited here and there from some government help. That sort of low-level hypocrisy is almost to be expected from these types. But Fincher has received millions - $3.2 million as of June 2010 - in federal crop subsidies.

Danger! ~ Lowering Grocery Tax Will Lead the Poor to Buy More Food

The Kansas state Senate on Thursday voted to cut the state sales tax on food from 6.3 percent to 4.95 percent, but Sen. Jeff Melcher (R) led opposition against the measure, arguing that it would lead to people eating more.
“It seems to me we are encouraging the behavior of purchasing food and discouraging the behavior of purchasing anything else,” Melcher reportedly told his colleagues.

It should come as no surprise that Mitt Romney suffered a mental block when he tried to say the word "doughnut" at an Iowa diner Friday. We've been seeing the warning signs of Romney's problems with food for months. When Romney dares to eat a slice of pizza, he pulls off the cheese. He "relished" KFC, but he pulls off the skin. You know another term for the cheese on pizza and the skin on fried chicken? The "good parts." It's time to admit it: The Republican presidential nominee has food issues.
