"13 Hours" #Benghazi Movie Bombs

I'm a huge fan of the TV comedy known as "The Office," and I am especially fond of the character Jim Halpert, played by actor John Krasinski as the love interest of receptionist Pam Beesley, the nemesis of beet farmer turned paper salesman Dwight Shrute, and the "best friend" of his boss, Michael Scott.

But sadly, Krasinski recently took a questionable role as a Libyan contractor caught up in the violence at Benghazi in the film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. The director, Michael Bay, is famous for movies full of explosions such as Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It almost sounds like a joke from The Office, a spin-off of Michael Scott's "Threat Level Midnight." But the folks who made this are serious, man!





Just the title with the keyword "Benghazi" is enough to make true conservatives line up for tickets, right?It's like clickbait come to life for the far-right conspiracy crowd.

And indeed, many of these conservatives sat in dark theaters seething with anger towards their own Dwight Shrute - Hillary Clinton - then took out their phones and tweeted about it. Take that, Hillary!!! Only, you know, Ted Nugent also felt a need to threaten her life, and President Obama, also too.

















But not so fast - one ex-CIA Director says the movie is made-up fiction:





But whether the movie is true or not is irrelevant if it tanks at the box office. And by all accounts and measurements of cinematic achievement 13 Hours is a BOMB, in more than one way.

Hillary Clinton was grilled for ELEVEN hours by the witch-hunting Benghazi-craycray Committee. Eleven hours of vindictive partisan nonsense.

. . . Following Gowdy’s lead, the other Republicans asked their questions in the form of accusations that Clinton heartlessly caused the American deaths in Benghazi. No objective observer could interpret the committee’s questions as having any purpose other than to score crude political points.
Crucially, Clinton refused to take the committee’s bait. She learned from her past mistakes. In the 2013 Senate hearing, she was combative and defensive. On Thursday, she was patient, measured and relaxed. She avoided giving her opponents sound bites they could use against her in the 2016 presidential election.

Amazingly the report from Congress on Benghazi finally puts to rest the idea that there was a "government conspiracy" to withhold armed forces from protecting the consulate there. Basically, there was no there there, as they say.

The final report, from Chairman Mike Rogers, R-Michigan, and ranking member Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, D-Maryland, concludes there was no intelligence failure prior to the attack, no stand-down order to CIA operatives trying to go assist at the besieged consular building and found conflicting intelligence in the wake of the attack about the motive and cause, which were reflected in early public comments by the administration.
. . . he declassified version of the report attempts to knock down other accusations about the Benghazi incident and aftermath, finding no evidence of CIA employees being intimidated from testifying and also no indication the CIA presence in Benghazi was partially to secretly ship arms from Libya to Syria.
The September 11, 2012, attack left U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods dead, and immediately sparked controversy, with Republicans accusing the Obama administration of mishandling the attack and manipulating the talking points used to discuss it for political reasons.

Of course, the far right can't let go of their favorite rallying cry without a few more whimpers of poutrage.

Take Lindsey Graham, for instance. Please. He's been the King of Benghazi!!!!!!!!!!!! Madness for years now, and got reelected by stirring up his constituents with it. So where does he go from here? Well, that report just has to be wrong!

The senator insisted that members of the administration altered the Benghazi talking points after the attack.
"I'm saying that anybody who has followed Benghazi at all knows that the CIA deputy director did not come forward to tell Congress what role he played in changing the talking points," he said. "And the only way we knew he was involved is when he told a representative at the White House, I'm going to do a hard review of this, a hard rewrite."










And what about Darrell Issa, who led the Benghazi investigation in the House, and wasted millions in taxpayer money? Oh, well . . . he's lost his committee chairmanship and doesn't have much to say.













Will Fox News and the rest of the Far Right ever take back all the accusations on Benghazi? Don't hold your breath!

The New York Times published the real story behind the Benghazi attack and Tea Party heads are 'splodin' all over the Right. They just can't let go of their favorite conspiracy theory, that all of this was either orchestrated by Al Qaeda and approved by Obama, or that Obama and Hillary and Susan Rice conspired to "ignore" the death and destruction. Either Obama did nothing, or Obama is a mastermind! Whatever - nothing can change the Tea Party minds!

Months of investigation by The New York Times, centered on extensive interviews with Libyans in Benghazi who had direct knowledge of the attack there and its context, turned up no evidence that Al Qaeda or other international terrorist groups had any role in the assault.
. . . Fifteen months after Mr. Stevens’s death, the question of responsibility remains a searing issue in Washington, framed by two contradictory story lines.

One has it that the video, which was posted on YouTube, inspired spontaneous street protests that got out of hand. This version, based on early intelligence reports, was initially offered publicly by Susan E. Rice, who is now Mr. Obama’s national security adviser.

The other, favored by Republicans, holds that Mr. Stevens died in a carefully planned assault by Al Qaeda to mark the anniversary of its strike on the United States 11 years before. Republicans have accused the Obama administration of covering up evidence of Al Qaeda’s role to avoid undermining the president’s claim that the group has been decimated, in part because of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

The investigation by The Times shows that the reality in Benghazi was different, and murkier, than either of those story lines suggests. Benghazi was not infiltrated by Al Qaeda, but nonetheless contained grave local threats to American interests. The attack does not appear to have been meticulously planned, but neither was it spontaneous or without warning signs.

Before I go on, I wanted to make a very good point that [reporter David D. Kirkpatrick] put out. Look, it is not about al-Qaeda as the only terrorist organization.
. . . There was a group there that was involved that's linked to al-Qaeda. What we never said -- and I didn't have security look behind the door, that's for other members of Congress. ... Those sources and methods I've never claimed. What I have claimed, and rightfully so, is Ambassador Stevens [who was killed in the attack] and others alerted, well in advance, that they had a security threat.

If Times reporter David Kirkpatrick truly found “no evidence that Al Qaeda or other international terrorist groups had any role in the [Benghazi] assault,” this must be because he spent little effort to uncover any.

Issa Wrong-Splains the Difference Between "Act of Terror" and "Terrorist Attack"

The President sent a letter to the president of Libya where he didn't call it a terrorist attack even when in real time the president of Libya was calling this a pre-planned Sept. 11 terrorist attack. So I think when you look at official correspondence from the President through the acting ambassador to the president of Libya, which came out in our hearing and was testified to under oath, the words that are being used carefully -- like you just said, act of terror -- an act of terror is different than a terrorist attack. The truth is, this was a terrorist attack, this had al Qaeda at it, this came over the wall very quickly, attacked and killed two people and then later two more hours later.

We’ll go through, not in front of the public but-- but in a nonpartisan way questions and answers and then obviously…

REP. ISSA: …a hearing to follow at an appropriate time. I’m delighted to have a long-serving career diplomat willing to come before us. I don’t think it was his decision to say no. But we were told no until just before the hearing

ABC published them today for the public as if they were a smoking gun, and all the Republicans in Congress who already had these things and have had them for months reported to be outraged by what was in them, shocked, , impeach, impeach!
They have had them for two and a half months now, and they never said anything about them before. Just today they decided it was a smoking gun, even though this has been long answered.

Benghazi Been-There-Done-That - Updated

Three State Department witnesses, including the former deputy chief in Libya, are scheduled to testify Wednesday before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee at a session certain to attract attention after recent disclosures from the panel's Republicans.

The hearing is the latest in a long-running and bitter dispute between the administration and congressional Republicans who have challenged the White House's actions before and after the Benghazi attack.

The scheduled witnesses were Mark Thompson, acting deputy assistant secretary for counterterrorism; Gregory Hicks, the former deputy of mission in Libya; and Eric Nordstrom, a former regional security officer in Libya who testified before the panel in October.

Yes, the attack on Benghazi was somehow engineered by the Obama Administration because somehow it was good for them. So if President Obama's not going to be impeached because he tanked the stock market, he will definitely be impeached because of Benghazi. Or actually, you know what? He'll RESIGN because of Benghazi. That would be perfect.

Can't exactly explain how it's going to happen, but I'm pretty sure it's going to happen. It's magic. If you say Benghazi enough, if you teach enough people who only type with the Capslock Key on Twitter to spell BENGHAZI - that "h" is really hard - then eventually President Obama will be impeached. Or he will resign. And then . . . we will get all of our ammunition back and finally get to meet his Gay Husband.
