Trump Vs. Our National Parks

The Trumpies are wasting no time in trying to sell-off our National Park System to the highest bidder. It seems very similar to the "Sovereign Citizen" movement that led to the Oregon Standoff at Malheur Wildlife Refuge. Trump and several yokels in Congress who are like kissing cousins to the Bundy clan think they get to decide what happens to protected land that belongs to the American taxpayers.

Last week, Trump showed his dictatorial attitude when he made a priority of shutting down discussions of climate change within various government agencies.

Employees at several federal agencies including the Department of Agriculture have been barred by the Trump administration from making any statements, or providing any documents to the public or journalists, according to published reports.
The Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Health and Human Services are also impacted by the orders, which were reportedly handed down this week, and include a prohibition against some of the agencies posting on social media.
...A memo sent to EPA staff said that there should be no press releases sent to "external audiences" and that "no social media will be going out," according to a report by The Hill. The memo also says that a digital strategist will be coming in to oversee the agency's social-media policies, and that "existing, individually controlled social-media accounts may become more centrally controlled."

Trump particularly targeted the National Park System Twitter accounts. Why? Because Trump was furious that the Park Service retweeted an article in the New York Times about his small inaugural crowd compared with Obama's in 2009.

After the retweet began to get attention, a career staffer at the Interior Department instructed employees that the "new administration has said that the department and all bureau are not supposed to tweet this weekend and wait for guidance until Monday."
The message continued, "Please make sure that any scheduled tweets are no longer scheduled," and referred all questions to another career staffer at the department.
On Saturday, the National Park Service called Friday's retweets "mistaken."



But the folks at Badlands National Monument went rogue and caused a stir:

On Tuesday, the Twitter account for South Dakota’s Badlands National Park—a subsidiary of the National Park Service—began tweeting out climate change facts, in apparent defiance of the gag order. Someone working for the national park’s social media team went rogue and started posting climate change facts from the National Wildlife Federation’s Web site in 140-character bursts. (Trump, who can generously be described as a climate change skeptic, has previously called called climate change a “hoax” engineered by the Chinese.)
The National Park’s tweets were retweeted thousands of times before they were suddenly deleted later Tuesday afternoon.

Gun Nuts See "Fake Tears" From President Over Sandy Hook

Last week President Obama tearfully announced new measures included in an Executive Order meant to curb gun violence, such as better background checks at gun shows. He has always said that the day of the Sandy Hook massacre of innocent children and teachers was the worst day of his Presidency.

Of course, the wingnuts who believe he is still planning a "Gun Grab" and martial law don't understand real emotion when they see it. They immediately jumped to bizarre conclusions and conspiracies to explain the President crying over dead children.

Because they are insane. And heartless!

One day after President Obama made an Executive Order on Immigration to help those caught in a tangle with deportation, the GOP has decided to "sue" him over it. Yes, sue him. Good luck with that. Every President in the past 50 years has used Executive action, and several have used it to deal with Immigration. So the law is clearly on the side of the President, who has the power to do good with his office, even when Congress decides to go to sleep, take a vacay, and ignore the will of the people.

The lawsuit, filed Friday against the Health & Human Services (HHS) and Treasury secretaries, challenges two of Obama’s executive actions: that his adminstration “unlawfuly waived the employer mandate” and illegally transferred funds to insurance companies.

Boehner declined to spell out how Republicans would counter the immigration executive actions, which extend protections to roughly 4 million undocumented parents of legal U.S. citizens and young immigrants brought here illegally when they were children.

“We’re working with our members and looking at the options available to us, but I will say to you the House will, in fact, act,” Boehner told reporters Friday morning, in the first televised Republican rebuttal to Obama’s prime-time address Thursday night.

Steve Schmidt of MSNBC went a little nuts over President Obama's Immigration Order, saying that now "We'll never know" if or when the GOP would have come up with a bill on their own. But ya know . . . they sort of had YEARS to come up with a bill, a plan, a man, a canal, Panama, whatever, and they never did. Now would they ever. So what Schmidt is really upset about is that the GOP can't take credit for immigration reform during the 2016 Presidential Election.

Our founding fathers were very concerned about us having separation of powers. They didn't want to let the president become a king. And so they wanted to say that it was Congress that would legislate, and not the President.
So we have a bill that we will introduce next week, and in this bill, we will nullify anything the president does that smacks of legislation.
And there are several of these executive orders that look as if he is writing new law. That cannot happen.

Right Wing Goes Godwin on Guns When Biden Says Executive Orders Possible

The Drudge Report seemed to reach a new level of gun-confiscation hysteria Tuesday afternoon when it used photos of Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin to illustrate the headline, "WHITE HOUSE THREATENS 'EXECUTIVE ORDERS' ON GUNS," linking to a story about Joe Biden's brief statement about his gun-proposal committee.
. . . Of course, this is all an illustration of Godwin's Law: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1." ("Hitler ate sugar," a Daria character said.) But if Drudge's image choice was shocking, it's another example of the phenomenon of the very right wing talking to itself and no one else.
