End Times: Trump Killing the GOP

 photo dumpster-fire-o_1.gif

In the never-ending dumpster fire that is the modern GOP, Donald Trump has found new and unique ways to throw gasoline on everything. And no one seems able to stop the conflagration, although voters are running from the Republican Party in droves, not to mention the donors who are now asking for their money back. Fundraisers are also being cancelled due to "lack of interest." He's even lost the Mormons of Utah thanks to his porn-laced comments about women, and they are flocking to Mormon alternative candidate Evan McMullin who could make Trump irrelevant in several Western states.

Is this the end of the Republican Party as we know it? As they say in the musical Oklahoma, have they "gone about as fur as they kin go?" We can hope!

Of course, Trump himself is pushing back by squalling like a cranky toddler without about rigged elections, unfavorable Saturday Night Live skits, and accusations that Hillary is on drugs. I would call that "classic projection" myself. Trump would love to rig elections himself, he vilifies and puts down everyone, and he sniffed like a Coke addict through the first two debates. So, who is what?

Jane Curtin Slams Fox News on SNL Anniversary Show

 photo Jane Curtin.png

On the 40th Anniversary of NBC's Saturday Night Live, famed comedian Jane Curtin, one of the original "Not Ready for Prime-Time Players," joined Amy Poehler and Tina Fey for "Weekend Update." And she used a one-liner to completely capture what is wrong with Fox News Network.

“Times have changed since I first sat at this desk. For example, I used to be the only pretty blonde woman to read the fake news. Now there’s an entire network devoted to that. And somehow, I showed less cleavage.”

Fox News is famous for (among other things) hiring blonde women who look and dress more like porn stars than journalists.

North Korean Missile Threats Equal Comedy Gold

 photo Kim-Jong-Un-Launch.jpg

Tensions continue to mount in this North Korea situation. The U.S. has moved a Navy warship off the coast of the Korean Peninsula. Is that going to scare the North Koreans? If you really want to scare them, don't send a warship. Send a Carnival cruise ship.
~ Jay Leno on The Tonight Show

Japan and South Korea are on high alert after North Korea successfully launched a long-range rocket. Both countries are surprised by North Korea's successful launch, but definitely not as surprised as North Korea.
~ Jimmy Fallon

Why do I feel like this whole thing could be solved by sending Kim Jong Un a Disneyland pass?
~ Jimmy Kimmel

North Korea has the same ability to launch a nuclear strike against America as I do. It's like walking through a parking lot and getting barked at by a chihuahua locked in a car.
~ Bill Maher

In high school Kim Jong Un starred in a production of the musical 'Grease.' That's also where Kim met his first wife, Olivia Newton Jong.
~ Conan O'Brien

Japan gave warnings too. They said if North Korea tests this new weapon, Japan will have no choice but to set up their own missile defense system. They're adorable little missiles with 'Hello Kitty' on them.
~ Craig Ferguson

Dealing with the North Koreans is very difficult. They have a history of making irrational decisions to divert the world's attention from the fact their system has totally collapsed. No wait, sorry. I was thinking of NBC.

Mitt may be drowning his sorrows with glasses of milk, probably non-fat.

Who's Mitt Romney?

Mitt not attending his own inauguration? Karl and Dick must be crestfallen.

He thought it was tomorrow.

First State Bank in Norton, Kan. houses a second-floor gallery full of those, like Romney, who have tried, but failed to become president.
"I've tried to make it a party and a little inauguration," Lee Ann Shearer, the gallery’s director, told the Salina Journal. "After a welcome, I will have a little talk about the rejected candidate."
Romney’s portrait will join those of 59 other presidential losers, including John Kerry, Bob Dole, Al Gore, and John McCain.
The 10 a.m. “Inaugural Event and Reception,” will also include coffee and cookies.

MSNBC Discussion During Inagural Coverage
Rachel Maddow: Mitt Romney did not attend today, and that's not unprecedented - Michael Dukakis did not attend when he was defeated by George H.W. Bush. But Mr. Romney didn't attend and put out word through people close to him that he wasn't even planning to watch today, that he was going to be home in La Jolla, and wasn't even planning on participating in that degree. Do you think that's significant or just a personality point?

Lawrence O'Donnell: I think going to the extent of saying 'and I'm not going to watch' - we don't actually have to know that. (laughter) I don't think anyone's asking what you're doing. (more laughter) You know, I think the question is 'Are you here or are you not here?' ... It's an understandable choice to not come here. I get that, especially if you're not a man of Washington government. You know, this is a former governor, and so he didn't really have a presence in Washington. So I get that.
But I don't get why you'd have to take that extra step and say 'I'm not gonna watch.' I, by the way - I have no problem with him not watching. I can understand that from a human level, losing an election like that - I get it. But this is not the moment in which someone who participated in the greatest drama in our national politics ... should have announced that about himself.

Rachel Maddow: (laughs) Making himself the story.
